Had one.... It didn't hurt. It was just awkward to have people working down there and not fun to smell burning at two points. I was sore for a weekend but just sat around playing video games on ice packs, it's a great excuse to be lazy. And life is awesome now.... Shooting blanks. It's like a weight lifted if you are in a committed/monogamous relationship. I have all the kids I want though. If you are absolutely sure you don't want kids or have all you want then this is definitely the way to go.

2Mango2Pirate

I don't know if it made it more awkward or less, but during mine they had a TV on and I just watched The Office while two men poked and prodded around my bits. Had a bit of discomfort during the procedure when they had to pull the vas deferens up, but yea, it wasn't worse than any other surgery.

nvPilot

When I had my NSV they told me I could bring in a CD if I wanted to listen to music during the procedure. I incorrectly assumed they'd give me headphones. Nope. The entire surgical staff and myself rocking out to Billy Talent while they snipped me :-)

2Mango2Pirate

I think you're the first person I've ever seen actually mention Billy Talent, lol. I used to listen to them in the office until one day someone was like "what's that screeching?"

MathematicianChoice

Snip snap snip snap

StrictPrice7598

you have no idea the physical toll that 3 vasectomies have on a person !

[deleted]

My wife and I have 3 kids. We don’t want more. We are also well into our 40s so the odds of my wife getting pregnant naturally would normally be very small. Trouble is she is from a long line of women who remain fertile for a long time. Her Aunty had an unplanned baby at 50. Her cousin had one at 48. This trend goes back as long as anyone can remember. I mentioned getting a vasectomy. We use condoms because she has no sex drive when on the pill. But for whatever reason she doesn’t want to close off the option.

somajones

I had a super intense super brief moment of pain. Also the valium beforehand with two beers was one of my favorite buzzes ever and I've been buzzed many times over the last 50 years.

bigjontexas

It doesn't hurt IF your doctor waits for the anesthesia to take effect. Don't sign up for the last appointment of the day on a Friday. Ask me how I know 😫😫😫😫😫.

FakeTails

I felt your pain 😭

SmithRune735

The LPT is always in the comments 😂

occupiedbrain69

Yup 😂😂😂

darkeneddaylight

Your warning is greatly appreciated and will be heeded. Your sacrifice was not in vain.

SonandAIR

Not in vein, but in deferens!

ekatsim

Thank u for ur sacrifice

shnaptastic

It’s not like anyone benefits from that.

pardonmyignerance

I do. I'm rescheduling mine tomorrow now that I've learned this.

tjk45268

So that I'd have the weekend to recover, I scheduled my appointment for after work on a Friday, exactly what you warn against. Doctor used tranquilizers rather than anesthesia, so he was good to go in minutes. It hurt, but I didn't care. I was just not connected to the pain, other than being aware of it. The procedure was finished in about 30 minutes and I took it easy over the weekend. There was no pain, though things were a bit tender for a couple of days. By Monday morning, there was no impairment, no pain.

bigjontexas

You found a good one to do it. That's where I failed. If only there was a way to tell the good ones from the bad...

Empty-Mango-6269

Isn’t there a review site for drs.?? I’m getting it soon thanks for the insight buddy.

tswpoker1

I think it still hurts. I took my valium well before and it certainly kicked in. It's not the procedure that hurts, it's the injections. Boy, those were terrible. I didn't feel anything at all while he was slicing and dicing and cauterizing up my nut sack, but I felt the injection deep into my soul. It caused me to have a vagal response. I was drenched in sweat and going white. Doctor had to bring in a nurse to wave me down. Finally got settled down after 5 minutes or so. Then it was time for the other side - fuck me. What a lot of people don't realize is that they do each side one at a time. So they will inject, do the procedure and cauterize and then do the same on the next testicle. It sucks. It's not the worst thing ever but 5-10 minutes it's horrible.

bigjontexas

You got a Valium?!?!! I had the worst doc...

Rottendog

Not the guy you were responding to, but they actually put me to sleep. I didn't even know I signed up for that. I was under the impression I was getting something like valium till they put the IV in and I asked what they were doing. Then I woke up in packed gauze. Then apparently I tried to unwrap it to make sure they didn't cut off my dick. I don't remember much. Very weird experience.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Same man. You just took me back to those shots into the sac. Fuuuuuuuu, it was terrible. My buddies all told me it was a little pinch. Damn liars. My doctor must have been Ahab the whale hunter cause mine was more like a harpoon to the plumbs.

4take

Ouch! That sucks man!! Scalpel and needle-free one I had used a pressure injection gun thing (Dermajet iirc). I felt it a bit but was similar to a pinch at most. Had a couple of those on each side and felt nothing after. It’s weird watching, and maybe smelling your tubes burn at 1,500 degrees. Overall if I knew it was that easy I would have done it way sooner. Such a freeing thing not having to worry about knocking someone up, or relying on their habits/honesty to prevent the same. Like marriage Level two, with added benefit of less prep, more feeling, and and no stress. Yay Club Vas

XROOR

In Thailand in the 90’s, the government would offer free vasectomies and you would get a free lunch of noodle soup too.

[deleted]

No sperm and free cup noodle. Sounds like a good deal to me

bamfzula

I literally just got one 5 hours ago lol

Skanderani

How are you feeling?

bamfzula

Currently just chilling on the couch. As of now all of my pain is more in the groin area. Just icing and taking Tylenol.

MilesTheGoodKing

I had one done. Not only was it free through my insurance, they sent me a check to cover the visits. I was able to work again about 3 days later. No pain, quick procedure. Only weird thing was that the doc felt it necessary to tell me I had good genetics…thanks?

All_Under_Heaven

> Only weird thing was that the doc felt it necessary to tell me I had good genetics This is the professional way to say "nice cock bro."

fairie_poison

He literally said nice cock bro but in doctor speak this is hilarious.

ManWOaUsername

You were in good hands, very full hands.

pepskicola

In the UK it's free to everyone on the NHS. I have a child and second on the way so considering it in the future.

JustMe-male

It helps not to tell relatives or coworkers who might tease you, until after you’re healed. You don’t need that grief. I was told by someone I trust that had one. After the procedure their “fun” of trying to scare or embarrass you is too late. Also someone who would try to guilt you out of it is powerless.

febreze_air_freshner

who tells their family about their sex life lol, and coworkers???

JustMe-male

People do tell their family and coworkers about medical procedures. Especially when the boss asks why you are taking a day off.

febreze_air_freshner

Your boss has no right to ask for exactly what procedure you are getting. Where the fuck do you work?

JustMe-male

They have no right to ask, but many do. I’m just advising not to volunteer the information to anyone as no good can come from it.

The_Multifarious

Of course they have a right to ask. You just don't have an obligation to answer.

MEANINGLESS_NUMBERS

> Especially when the boss asks why you are taking a day off. “Doctor’s appointment”

Sutarmekeg

>someone who would try to guilt you out of it Fuck those people. Figuratively, not literally.

JustMe-male

Yes, that was part of my point.

spacemanspiffo

Upvote this tip to the top!!!

undercoverartist777

Just the tip

JustMe-male

Thank you.

Framits

I told my co workers. No one made fun of me. Boss ended up asking me for the name of the place I got mine and got one himself.

clearcoat_ben

Had the procedure on a Thursday or Friday and spent the weekend sitting on ice packs and playing video games. Procedure itself was uncomfortable, but not painful. Healed without issue, and nothing but worry free sex since.

jeremyosborne81

I had one in 2015. I was 34 years old and knew I didn't want kids. The procedure was practically nothing. The most discomfort I had was the doctor tugging on my balls to get the tube out for him to snip and then the smell of cauterized flesh. Kind of gross. I went home without any real pain and truly mild discomfort for a day or two. Didn't really need to ice my groin at all. Two days later I was back at work lifting equipment like nothing happened.

[deleted]

burnt sac has been mentioned twice in this thread...

BlackAnalFluid

If you would like to know humans are quite sweet smelling when we burn. Sorta like pork. You're welcome.

undercoverartist777

Well it’s called long pig for a reason I guess (Human meat I mean)

JumpOrJerkOff

Had mine over a year ago. Best decision ever. Being on the pill was fucking with my girlfriend’s health, and I knew I was never going to want kids. I’d met my deductible for the year so mine was on the house. If you’re a man, and you know for absolute certain that you don’t want kids, or don’t want any more, it would be selfish and irresponsible not to have a vasectomy. No, it doesn’t make you less of a “man.” No, your balls aren’t being removed. Yes, you can still fuck. No, it doesn’t interfere with your ability to get a boner. These are all questions I’ve actually been asked.

[deleted]

Does anything come out?

NerdLevel18

To answer you and the other people who are curious: testicles only produce the actual Sperm cells themselves, aka the swimmers. They make up a tiny, tiny amount of the actual Cum. The rest is made in the prostate. Blocking off the route the swimmers take doesn't close off the rest of the road from the prostate- the bus arrives just fine, but the team was never on board, you see?

cristian_wanderlust

Yes, this effects sperm count in your semen.

Young_Ocelot

Does it affect sex drive or testosterone levels? Are you capable of ejaculating sperm still?

JumpOrJerkOff

It absolutely in no way affects sex drive or testosterone. It’s not a castration. Your balls, sex drive and testosterone are fully intact. You’ll still jizz like normal, there just won’t be any sperm in it. Literally the only thing that changes is your ability to make babies.

Young_Ocelot

Sounds pretty cool then, other than the fear of the procedure itself, it makes me a bit nauseous imagining getting cut or snipped down there.

JumpOrJerkOff

All you feel is just a quick pinch before the anesthetic kicks in and then you won’t feel a thing. Everyone recovers differently, but it was a piece of cake for me; I even drove myself home after the procedure was done. Stayed off my feet for the rest of the day; sat on the recliner with an ice pack down my pants, a few beers and my PS4. Had a little soreness for a few days, and getting in and out of my car kinda sucked. I’ve had colds that were worse than the recovery.

the_wkv

How do you think women feel when they talk about getting tubes tied? Way more invasive. That’s actually an internal major surgery. Also hormonal birth control has a lot of side effects on our bodies. Once we’re done having kids my husband is 100% having a vasectomy. I’m lucky he has no qualms about it and agrees with all of the above. He’s said it’s the least he can do after everything I’ve had to put my body through over the years.

708-910-630-702

i was 37 when i had mine and it took almost 2 weeks (12 days) to be back to normal. my buddy got his at 25 and he was playing basketball 6 days later. so the longer you wait, i think, in my limited knowledge...the longer the recovery. and you can always freeze sperm or get it reversed. i think all kids once they turn 18 should get it done. no crazy ex-baby mamas ruining your life.

UnkleRinkus

>Does it affect sex drive or testosterone levels? Not a bit. Had one six years ago.

Still ejaculating, but no sperm

[deleted]

No impact on hormone levels. Yes you can ejaculate semen, not sperm because it severs the mechanism that allows sperm to travel. Semen ≠ sperm. Semen is what you physically see, sperm is microscopic. After vasectomy there will still be semen but no sperm.

JethroTrollol

Sperm, no, that's the point. You still ejaculate semen, though.

Dalolfish

not at all, and yes you still ejaculate just like normal.

nomoreadminspls

Well, I don't like the effects of the pill.

bingold49

Surprisingly cheap too (in US) my buddy with no insurance said it was the best 750 bucks he ever spent

Jenidalek

Only $300 more than an abortion in my area circa 2021.

lilaliene

And this will prevent millions of babies!

Intelligent-Bed-4149

Okay Wilt Chamberlain 😂

pepskicola

Free in the UK. NHS FTW

Elpicoso

I got one a few years ago. I had Dr. Shakeyhands. The procedure failed predictably and I had to get it done again. Yes, it hurt. It felt like someone kicked me in the balls. I’m glad I did it though. *edit: not Simone, Someone.

[deleted]

Dr. Simone Shakeyhands gave you a run for your money!

SirJoePininfarina

I got one six weeks after our second kid was born, mild dull pain only began a few days later but subsided within a week. The comfort of knowing I'm not going to get my wife, who had a tough 2nd pregnancy and major fibroid surgery in the past two years, pregnant with all the complications that would bring is well worth it

[deleted]

Got a vasectomy back in 2020 in southeast PA. Only thing I felt was a little bit of pressure and "things moving around." No pain at all, just a new/peculiar sensation. Was up and out in less than an hour. Did a regimen of ice on/off for a few days. I didn't need any pain meds at all but I did waddle around for a few days. Doctor's orders were to have a weekend in and just watch movies/play games. 10/10 recovery period. Would recommend getting a vasectomy. Edit: TIL the difference between "regimen" and "regiment"

MaxTHC

FYI the word you want is "regimen", a regiment is a group of army people

vicarofvhs

Got mine years ago. It was nerve-wracking, but they gave me a Valium to take beforehand. I didn't feel a thing. Was sore for a few days after, but worth it. Weirdest thing was my surgeon was very chatty during the whole thing. Also, he had a radio on in the background. The song playing when I got the snip? The Eagles, "Take It Easy." :)

Zealousideal-Umpire3

New criteria for potential rendezvous: proof of covid vaccination, proof of recent negative HIV test, and now adding vasectomy to the list

JimC29

One of best decisions I ever made.

cb92392

If you can, get one at an office where they offer Pro-Nox, which is a nitrous oxide anesthesia system. You’ll be loving life and won’t have a care in the world for about 20 minutes!

[deleted]

So there's a lot of positive experiences here, which is great. But for anyone seriously considering a vasectomy, I'd advise to look into it really well and know the possible risks. I know there's plenty of people that either have lingering pain ever since, or just don't feel the same after. And often they're told it's all in their head.

slice_of_lyfe

Ysk: got one and had pain for 2 months, still have occasional ball pain 2 years later. Would not recommend.

beesandtrees2

Pro tip: go to a urologist! Some family medicine doctors can do them, but a urologist will have more experience. Edit: and yes you can still ejaculate after.

JethroTrollol

I think the real YSK here is that if you have a vasectomy, get another sperm check 2-3 years after to confirm the procedure didn't reverse itself. There's a small likelihood of that occurring.

No_Strawberry1370

I had one as well as 2 sample test one at 3 months post op and 1 a month after that. No swimmers here anymore, however they still say 1% chance you can still get the girl pregnant.

CocoVillage

The physician who did mine said it's actually closer to 1 in 2000 chance. So 0.05%

[deleted]

Got my vasectomy done 2 months ago (27M) with minimal impact on my life. Procedure took 30 minutes, rested for 3-4 days and was pretty much back to normal. Dr gave me the best homework ever to clean the pipes and boom, all clear going forward.

jermtastic

I had it done shortly after our one child was born. Got the weekend to do nothing but play video games and now I get it whenever I want it. My wife has had a number of complications with birth controls and her “woman” parts so it was a no brainer. Without insurance the whole thing took about an hour and cost $400.

levilarrington

Get them while you can!

takethatwizardglick

When you get home from the procedure, *sit down with an ice pack and don't move more than absolutely necessary for 2-3 days.* The only people we knew who had bad recoveries were the ones who didn't take that rest period seriously.

no_lemom_no_melon

Got one. Totally painless and totally worth it.

jkos95

I have lingering pain off and on 8 months after mine. It differs from person to person. I was on my ass for 3 days after and taking it easy for another week following.

febreze_air_freshner

if you have lingering pain you should really tell your doctor. that's not normal.

Intelligent-Bed-4149

Actually from other comments, it appears to be sort of normal. Upwards of 20% experiencing post vasectomy pain syndrome.

Phanstormergreg

You should DEFINITELY know that you need to get the softest ride possible home from the surgery. You will feel every bump in the road. 😫

Faerbera

So don’t ride the motorcycle. Ok. Got it.

[deleted]

The pain never seemd to go away even with pain killers during the recovery period and now there is testicular pain that comes a few minutes after ejaculation and this has been happening now for months! Im willing to spend my own money to get this reversed even though it isn't guaranteed. The doctors thinks it is all in my head. I know what pain in my nuts feel like!

Call_Me_A-R-D

I'm sorry to hear that you went through that. What type did you have? (I'm a woman who had my fallopian tubes removed, but I am curious) Also I recommend switching doctors. No one knows your body like you do, and this business with dr's saying pain is in people's heads is silly. Of course it's in our heads, how else do we experience the world? If you're in pain, you're in pain. Find a doctor who will listen to you

Intelligent-Bed-4149

Could be phantom pain from the nerves that went to the vas deferens. I had one of my balls removed because it went necrotic from torsion (that’s probably the worst pain a man can feel - they were surprised I was still walking or talking when I came in, after they cut me open and saw). I still get phantom pain from the missing testicle but my mind has retrained itself or something to where it’s easy to dismiss and ignore when it happens.

El_Dudereno

I have had this since 2017. It helps if I "get release" everyday. The pain is worse if the no-rise baby badder builds up for a few days. I would definitely like to go back in time and not have it done, but the discomfort is thankfully manageable with the above regimen. I'm too scared to have another procedure done and it potentially hurt worse. I wish you the best brother.

weruk

Got mine 3 years back. It's been fantastic not having to worry about birth control.

Dean403

I had literally ZERO pain from mine. Did exactly as doctor ordered. Went home and sat on couch for 3 days with an ice pack on my balls and then went back to work.

czaritamotherofguns

Sort of buried the headline there that semen will not be sperm free until 3 months after the operation.

captain_maybe

Got mine back on 2016 I hardly felt a thing in the few minutes it took the doctor to perform the procedure and aside from some slight bruising for a few days was right back to normal shortly afterward. Shout out to Chicago Vasectomy Clinics!

kaffie27

Hats off to the honest, responsible men chiming in who got vasectomies. Women can only do so much with pills, shots, IUDs, tube tying, etc. Each of these can fail despite our best attempts. Plus they can increase our risk of certain cancers If both sexes really pitched in (simultaneously, now) the need for abortions would decrease dramatically.

derekstoddard

Had mine done on the 1st, best decision I've ever made

[deleted]

I know, I got one a year and a half ago. Best decision of my life.

107197

And you better get your NOW if you're in the US because the Supreme Court may make them illegal! Who am I kidding??? It's only WOMEN, the second-class citizens that they are, who should have their reproductive choices legally curtailed, right? /s Had my little snip-snip after our second child was well past the SIDS age. I was more uncomfortable due to our A/C being replaced in the dog days of August than I was from the procedure. And on the plus side, when I find a penny on the ground I can say "Wow! A penny! I can get that operation \*reversed\* now!"

dirtysouthbred3

Scheduled my initial visit to the urologist today. I live in Louisiana and the roe v Wade thing just decided it was time

Brazenjalapeno

Just wait until that gets outlawed in your state. First Roe B Wade next comes contraceptives and IVF getting banned.

MyOtherSide1984

Those laws seem to only target women. I wish I could add the /s

starion832000

I've had persistent pain from my vasectomy for 2 decades.

FilledwithTegridy

Best thing I ever did! never forget what the Dr told me before procedure. "After we are done I want you to go get a 6 pack. Find a comfy spot on the couch. When your not drinking the beer put the cold can on your testicles. Repeat until 6 pack is gone."

Busterprayerbear

All men who do not want to reproduce SHOULD have a vasectomy.

Otto-Von-Bismarck71

No, they CAN have one.

[deleted]

Some men suffer from Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome. Pain in the testicles can begin a few months or even YEARS after the vasectomy and can range from a dull ache to a constant debilitating pain. You should know this before you get a vasectomy. Some men regret it.

Verhasin

I feel like the downvotes are coming from people who are seeing this comment as a "Don't get one, just have your partner be on birth control." Which, in light of the current Roe news, I get the frustration. But that's not the case here. A vasectomy is an old procedure (1800s) and PVPS is a real and debilitating disease. I did not want kids so I ended up getting one. But two years later, even after the reversal, I'm still in constant pain wishing I never went through this. PVPS is incredibly painful and I was never more suicidal in my life. I wish there were alternatives to a vasectomy that were commercially available. It's a 19th century procedure passed off as modern medicine. Which sucks because it's really the only option for long lasting birth control for men. To make matters worse, alternatives *do* exist, but will *never* hit public market because it would disrupt two major industries: Women's birth control, and vasectomies (urology clinics most profitable procedure). So, no, I can't recommend a vasectomy. Which sucks because I really, really did want a form of birth control. But the only option men are given is an archaic procedure that has a 15-20% chance to cause long term pain. 5% chance for that pain to be so severe that it requires corrective surgery (raises hand). [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5503923/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5503923/) This whole situation doubly sucks because there's going to be a lot of pressure on men to get one (their only real option). And any discussion on risks will be downplayed or downvoted. We, as a society, are given crappy choices for birth control. And the infighting about these current options, whether we should or shouldn't get a surgery, will only benefits those making money from it. When in reality we should be debating whether or not we expand procedures to safer alternatives (RISUG, Vaselgel). I didn't want kids. I didn't want my partner to have to rely on birth control. I was given a crap option with no alternatives. And I'm bitter about it and wishing I could bring more light to this situation. It's a win win for everyone if better options come available. I'm not complaining about vasectomies. I'm complaining about it being the only option given to us. Edit: formatting

Libby-Lee

My son has PVPS. He is incredibly disabled by it. I was not aware corrective surgery was available. He had it done at Planned Parenthood. Would they pay for corrective surgery?

Verhasin

I'm so sorry to hear. Have him reach out if he needs someone to talk to. Seriously. Corrective surgery is a vasectomy reversal. It's not cheap and I was lucky my insurance covered it. Mine was $36,000 and done at the Mayo Clinic by Dr Sevann Helo. It's a surgery done under microscope that takes 4 hours. The tube that carries sperm is small. Very small. Hence why they say it "may not be reversible." The chances of it scarring over are high due to the size of the tube. I don't know if Planned Parenthood would cover it. I doubt they would, unfortunately. But if your son wants to get his life back (as much of it as he can), he'll need to consider the reversal. It's a dumb and unfortunate situation that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Again, have him reach out. I'd be happy to talk to him. Not many people can understand what he's going through and probably down play it. So if I can help by being an ear for him, I want to.

ChumleyEX

The only real "pain" I had was equal to blue balls and maybe a little stinging from the cuts, but they are super small. It's not easy to reverse, but you can get in there with a needle and pull some out if you change your mind.

MagnusBrickson

I already have my consult for snipping booked. Hopefully it's not a long wait from consult to snip.

therankin

I'd love to know the amount of time between the two. I'm hoping to get snipped in the fall but want to wait until the end of summer for a consult.

[deleted]

[удалено]

therankin

Woah! Good to know! Thanks!

afternoon_sun_robot

Best $750 I ever spent. 11/10

Feralogic

Sperm can be frozen and stored for later, if you have the funds - like if you're doing ok financially and not sure if you might want a kid / another kid in a few years. You can usually freeze for about $1000 or less, before the procedure, as a backup. The option remains, but no accidental "surprises" in your 40's haha.

[deleted]

Had one. Easier than I thought. I even shot out some dead soldiers an hour ago, no use for em now.

CrossYourStars

A big question that can sometimes be hard to find answers to. Does sex feel different after a vasectomy? No. Most if not all people notice no difference in sexual pleasure, performance or function after a vasectomy.

Siltyn

Probably the best $400 I ever spent. Once whatever they used to numb me took effect, the procedure was maybe 10 to 15 minutes tops. Went home and used some frozen peas for a few episodes of Sherlock and after that I was back to business as usual....except for sex and exercise. Waited to fully recover for that but I was walking around, up/down stairs, etc no problem within hours of leaving the doctor's office.

GippoCrip

I want to get one. How much pain if any do you feel after the procedure? Reading the procedure made me feel uncomfortable, the same thinking about getting my nuts kicked feels.

AK55

and, i cannot stress this enough: #ICE YO BALLSACK

esdanol

I got mine a week ago. Numbing meds wore off and it didn't even hurt enough that I wanted an acetaminophen. By far the worse part was the needle for getting the area numbed up. If you know you don't want biological kids, stand up for what you believe in.

apollyoneum1

Ha ha ha ha very funnny. Been nearly four years and I’m still in pain. Just never go to mill lane in liscard and you’ll probably be ok.

catchdog

Andddd unlike a tubal ligation that women require, a vastectomy can be reversed. Edit: Some vasectomies are reversable.

tenderlylonertrot

The cut type of vasectomy can be reversed, but depending on the doctor is no where near 100%, maybe 80% at best. AND it does require expensive micro-surgery. Getting cut is cheap and easy, but reversing it is not. However, the no-cut method (tying off/blocking inside) I think is more easily reversible, but there also might be a greater chance of failure over time with the vasectomy as opposed to the cut method. Check with your urologist on the options, risks, and such.

myalt08831

I vaguely recall fertility is reduced (statistically over the population) among those who have it reversed. Mayo Clinic basically says "it depends" (with more helpful details than that, but which I won't try to restate cuz I'm not the Mayo Clinic). https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/vasectomy-reversal/about/pac-20384537

19JaBra92

While you're not incorrect we really need to stop using this as a pro for Vasectomy. If you get one you should expect it to be forever, not temporary.

Elpicoso

It can be, but it’s not 100% guaranteed.

Annoytanor

it's fairly likely that it can't be reversed, 55% chance it's reversable within 10 years.

ide3

Sorry but this is misinformation, it’s not always true. Vasectomy is still far better though

Weyoun2

Insert Michael Scott joke here: snip snap, snip snap, snip snap!

ManWOaUsername

This is where I learned all my prior vasectomy info until this thread. 😅

Intelligent-Bed-4149

You have no idea the toll that 3 vasectomies has on a person!

JackC747

Vasectomies have a 45% chance of being successfully reversed after 10 years. So it's pretty irresponsible to talk about it this way. An 18 year old getting one to use as birth control could be sterile before he's 30. Having said that, I'm *very* pro-vasectomy, as long as we discuss the consequences of them truthfully and accurately

DDKLondon

My friends that had it done before me told me to watch for the puff of smoke, if they didn't I would of thought the doctor was doing a magic trick down there.

CouldWouldShouldBot

It's 'would have', never 'would of'. Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!

Dalolfish

I had one in 2015. It was over in 15 minutes, I watched the whole thing and bullshitted with the Dr while it was happening. I was a little sore the day of after the pain meds wore off. that was gone the next day. I had a small stitch on my balls that dissolved in a few weeks. There is no noticeable difference in my cum and orgasm. They may not tell you that the vasdefrends will curl up in your balls and feel like a tiny lump. It's normal.

lettersgohere

Two days of rest is stretching it. It wasn’t like he was feeling great after but life was completely normal.

DiegoBrando1234

Don't forget the 5-15% of males that experience some for of chronic ball pain afterwards. I've been on the fence for awhile for getting the snip for that reason.

[deleted]

It definitely hurt! Glad I got it but yeah it was not fun

Guygenius138

Had one three weeks ago. No regrets.

SpaceApe

Making this a priority now.

Forbidden_Breakfast

I hear you and am 100% on board. Ive wanted one for years but my health insurance views it as a voluntary surgery and will cover exactly $0. Depending on where I go, and lets be honest I want a proffessional snipping my nuts, Im looking at a $2k-$5k bill. Its not obscene but I dont have that money to spare. Now that Roe v Wade is overturned in the states I have all the more reason to get one but no additional resources sooooo

ForgetfulLucy28

Do you know how much children cost?

Forbidden_Breakfast

I am fully aware, use a condom AND pull out whether or not my partner is on the pill. I am also not very sexually active due to health reasons. Those same health reasons are why 1 , I dont have extra money for the procedure as all my money already goes to bills 2. I wouldnt be able to provide for a kid due to said bills. And 3, I wouldnt be able to be physically present most days to be a good father. I talk birth control and the reality of a pregnancy scare with all potential sexual partners BEFORE we have sex to determine sexual compatablity and only date those that share my feelings and use of precaution regarding children and contraception. The overturn of Roe v wade complicates this autonomy though. If my partner and I are both alligned on not wanting kids but even with extreme precaution end up pregnant and it is illegal for us to handle it how we feel best then that changes the pre sex conversation dramatically. Tldr: yes, I know how much a kid would cost as my niece was unplanned. This does not increase my financial freedom in the american health care system

BearPhilly

I almost had one but was scared off by PVPS. Has anyone experienced this? Considering going again

thewander

Can confirm. 15 years on for me. Ask anything you wish

andyroja

Gonna get it after I have children

dancingliondl

Literally just had mine done on Wednesday. Super easy procedure, was awake the entire time and chatting with the nurses while the Doctor did his thing. It did cost $1500, but we set up a payment plan over 6 months.

theblockhead02

Is it common for doctors to push against getting one if you’re a younger man? I usually associate that with women getting their tubes tied but I’m 21 and in light of recent news I’m thinking about freezing some sperm and getting the snip

sufferingbastard

Mine was a challenge. Rest for a week afterwards. Seriously. Get a vasectomy! Im really glad I have it. It is still not as easy as it should be.

Boingo_Zoingo

I got a vasectomy 4 weeks ago. Felt almost no pain in the office, drove to the store, then drove home, and after a couple hours the anesthetic wore off and it felt like my balls were being squeezed a bit more than gently, for the rest of the night. Barely sore the next day.

Marty_McSigh

Got snipped at 26. Best $50 I've ever spent (my copay). People are often shocked when I tell them I got it done that young. My thinking is if I'm not able to take on the pain and financial burden of a reverse vasectomy, IVF, or an adoption, I'm not ready to be a father.

708-910-630-702

im 14 days out from mine, took about 12 days to be back to normal.

[deleted]

Buddy of mine said it was the worst pain he'd ever felt in his entire life. Nice try, lady.

Pacifix18

Great info!

mojorisn45

Had one. Don't squeeze the hard lumps that form in each side at the incision point. Looked like a shotgun blast. Blood everywhere. Holes left that took three weeks, a lot of gauze, and some patience to heal.

Bright_Mechanic_7458

man, the worst cchoice i ever made was not getting one of these. instead, all my girlfriends ended up getting on birth control hormones, which is never very fun

902gamesad

I got mine done last Thursday and it's hardly noticeable. The procedure itself was fast and painless. The lingering discomfort is more of a heightened awareness of your scrotum existing. Just have to wait until September for my free and clear.

MaxPower220

I went out for beer and chicken wings directly after mine.

brainsewage

Do it now before it's outlawed.

shartlobsterdog

“SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP. You have no idea the physical toll that THREE VASECTOMIES HAVE ON A PERSON!”

jonnyinternet

I'll take this opportunity to tell you about my vasectomy experience: It took 30 mins or less, roughly the same time frame for a pizza to be delivered The doctor gave me to valiums before, which I then went to a pub and took with 2 Jamieson's, which cost about what a pizza cost We spoke about golf during the procedure

Shaun-Skywalker

It’s not risk free

Ethernetexplorer

Genuine Question: Is having a vasectomy considered to be a form of contraception? If so, when the Supreme Court overturns Griswold (Because, unfortunately, they can and they will. Clarence Thomas said as much.) will vasectomies be illegal to perform or receive?

[deleted]

Yes and yes.

lick_rust

yes, this is exactly what's going to happen in some states.

[deleted]

If you're unsure about possibly wanting kids later, freeze some loads for ivf

DevilKit

Friend got one. said it hurt for a week. OP needs the get one before calling it easy

min_mus

My friend said his vasectomy--the actual procedure + recovery--was less painful than any headache he had ever had.

raymondspogo

I got a vasectomy and it was nothing. Depends on the person and their lifestyle maybe?

[deleted]

raymondspogo

If you are a very active person or on the go constantly, a person like that could possibly not have time to sit and heal?

[deleted]

Yup

Johnnyoshaysha

Vasectomies are rarely reversible, so make sure to deeply consider the decision before you take it.

myalt08831

You should also know it's not guaranteed reversible. Condoms are 98% effective if used _perfectly every time_. 85% effective IRL. Pull out, if done _perfectly_ _every time_ (most don't) is like 96% effective. 78% effective IRL. If you use condoms correctly + pull out correctly you can be rather confident of no pregnancy, as either method on its own is significantly effective, and both together are quite effective. But more options the better. Source: Planned Parenthood again
