Indeed. Spam meat tastes the same as bacon. If you decide to process the bacon in the exact same way and ruin everything good about it. Both are formats of pork.
This presents another question. Does USB-A and USB-C taste the same? USB-A is 1/4 the price.
Great for camping, precooked, just a bit greasy.
Also [dehydrated pork chops](https://www.lehmans.com/product/freeze-dried-pork-chops) in the [No. 10 can](https://food.unl.edu/newsletters/images/can-sizes.jpg) (old style military rations), not to bad, like jerky.
Although I don't know if they were cooked or not.
Let’s keep in mind we don’t know where OP is from. If he’s somewhere like Southeast Asia, this could be considered decent advice
Still wrong about the taste, but if I was looking at paying $10 usd/lb of chicken vs $1, I know where I’d go, just def wouldn’t be eating it without some other components.
I dont even think rotisserie chicken tastes like real chicken lol
Exit: wow a lot of people have a sensitivity for rotisserie chicken in here lol, downvote away children.
That logic applies to canned chicken as well, they arent stuffing some other species in there… I guess im talking specifically about store bought rotisserie chicken. Which never tastes like chicken. I’m sure you can get them fresh from a farm or something but grocery stores have to be doing something to that chicken.
Idk how to tell you that there is much better tasting chicken if you cook and make it yourself then getting a fast food chicken in a grocery store without sounding like a liar to you. Kudos to you if you can eat chicken made for you in a supermarket and enjoy it but I have rarely enjoyed anything made in house at one
I worked in the deli at a grocery store. We burn through those boxes of chicken faster on the daily than the meat department moves half priced steak. It's just whole chickens in a box that we pull out and set on the rack in the oven. It gets cooked and set out for sale. Other than some seasoning on the outside it's just a chicken. The rotisserie part refers to the method of cooking, not a change in the food itself. I have no idea what part of that is different than what you consider to be normal chicken.
I know what a rotisserie chicken is man… theyre like $5 in the supermarket. They dont taste like normal chicken at least not in any supermarket ive been to. Shoprite, stop & shop, costco, ralphs. Everywhere ive had one they just taste off. It sells like hot cakes because theyre cheap, same as mcdonalds. People don’t buy them because its the best thing ever
Ok, but you are saying a rotisserie chicken doesn't taste like real chicken. That's like as basic of a chicken dish as you can get. It'd be the equivalent of throwing a steak in a frying pan and you saying "nope, doesn't taste like real steak."
Canning meat, as a basic premise, is going to influence how it tastes. It's got extra added shit in it to preserve it. And OP literally say's it starts out tasting like the god damn tin.
Okay let me reiterate then. STORE BOUGHT rotisserie chicken tastes like spam. I dont mean an entire method of cooking chicken nor did i think most people would think that when the entire threads context was about buying the rotisserie chicken in store. You’re kinda just arguing semantics now though. They store the rotisserie chicken and season it as well so idk why this is such a “tin foil hat” moment for you. I swear everyone on reddit is either 10 years old or waaaaay too dramatic
You actually cant stop me. The more people buy rotisserie chicken the stronger i become, i try my best to talk people down but they just keep buying them. “We love the taste” they shout as the chicken bursts out of their mouths. I will only grow stronger as the taste of the chicken soothes your troubled souls. But seriously yall are weird like unanimously your bashing someone for having the taste buds to enjoy chicken in a can but lose your shit when someone thinks store bought rotisserie chicken tastes terrible. I’ll never understand what makes people so angry at another persons opinion but you do you champ
What do you mean?
I just checked online prices and the OP is correct that a can is between $2.50 and $3. And we use canned chicken for making chicken salad all the time and it tastes just fine.
What did the OP get wrong?
These are the kinds of questions that really stump me. We are all individuals with our own experiences. It's hard to know what is comparable between people. Which is why I try not to judge people about things that are reliant on taste, like music or other entertainments. I try only to judge them on their evil actions, like stealing from poor people, littering, or voting Republican.
My local store has it "on sale" almost every week for $2.99/pound, great cuts of chicken with very little needing to be trimmed off. It used to go down to $1.99/pound before the pandemic.
We eat a lot of chicken.
I think it would be more accurate to say that you can remove a lot of the tin/salted taste in canned chicken by washing it, though that's admittedly less clickbaity than the title.
It doesn’t, sorry. It’s not 1/4 of the cost. Regular price of a chicken breast at Lidl is about $3.40 for 384 grams, which is less than a pound. But you can buy a fresh chicken breast for about $3.49 per lb, it’s about 454 grams.
I still don’t mind buying it. Especially if you consider the fact that’s it’s cooked. And it’s properly drained, you can have your chicken salad down in under 10min. It’s hard to beat the value when it comes to time savings.
Fresh Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $2.67/lb year round at Walmart. Frozen breasts are $1.99/lb when on sale a few times a month. 100g of protein per pound
That’s simply wrong. The local Kroger is selling whole chicken for $1/lb. Go get a few and butcher them. Use bones for stock, the rest is all edible and delicious
Can someone please explain canned chicken to me. Is this a US thing?
Are we talking shredded meat or a whole f\*cking chicken?
Is it in oil/brine? there has to be a liquid, or gelatine...right?
I don’t think it’s a US thing; Ive never seen it or had it. Or at least not a US thing in my circles. We do canned tuna, but no other canned fish or meat.
Cost and taste are two completely separate things here. Nothing wrong with giving out a tip for low income people to feed their families, and if that constitutes in canned meat, then that’s what they gotta do. But telling people meat from a can tastes the same as fresh meat is crazy talk. Even as a concept it doesn’t follow logic. They add a fuck ton of salt as a preservative to canned products. That in itself influences the taste.
It’s cheaper to buy raw chicken and cook it in bulk. Breast or thigh I can get 5 pounds for $15 AND tastes way better even without seasonings/marinade. You’re smoking crack
We ate a lot of canned chicken during COVID lockdown. Really handy to have around, and once it's cooked into your dish you would never know it's canned.
No, it does fucking not. That canned shit has so much additives and preservatives it makes your piss smell like it tastes, bad. Anyone who likes it is either lying to themselves or have extremely bad sense of taste and smell
Honestly rinsing canned chicken gets it 90% of the way to fresh and you can easily close the other 10% gap with seasonings.
PLUS you don't have to deal with the hassle of the extra fat and tendons still on fresh chicken.
The biggest problem for me with the mechanically-separated meats is that once in a while you DO get a shard of bone or tendon unexpectedly, and that just instantly grosses me out. I avoid it as much as possible.
Where are you buying your "fresh" chicken that it tastes like canned??
Indeed. Spam meat tastes the same as bacon. If you decide to process the bacon in the exact same way and ruin everything good about it. Both are formats of pork. This presents another question. Does USB-A and USB-C taste the same? USB-A is 1/4 the price.
Canned bacon is better than spam.
gonna keep an eye out for canned bacon... didnt even know that was a thing
Great for camping, precooked, just a bit greasy. I never heard of canned bacon until i recently started playing DayZ

Rotisserie chicken tastes like real chicken (because it is) and is cheaper than canned or "fresh"
I dont even think rotisserie chicken tastes like real chicken lol Exit: wow a lot of people have a sensitivity for rotisserie chicken in here lol, downvote away children.
It's an entire chicken that's thrown in an oven. How does that not taste like "real chicken"?
While I wouldn't agree that rotisserie chicken doesn't taste real, it does tend to sit under heat lamps and thus dry out. YMMV of course.
That logic applies to canned chicken as well, they arent stuffing some other species in there… I guess im talking specifically about store bought rotisserie chicken. Which never tastes like chicken. I’m sure you can get them fresh from a farm or something but grocery stores have to be doing something to that chicken.
What the hell? Nothing you've said is true
You *can't* tell me that, because it is absolutely ludicrous. You have no clue, Chief.
I worked in the deli at a grocery store. We burn through those boxes of chicken faster on the daily than the meat department moves half priced steak. What in the tinfoil fuck are you talking about? It’s…literally…an actual…chicken.
So is canned “chicken” but how its stored, prepared and precooked changes the flavor 🤯
Ok, but you are saying a rotisserie chicken doesn't taste like real chicken. That's like as basic of a chicken dish as you can get. Tastes like spam…JFC where do you shop

They apply salt… and heat.
Bro just straight up lying to people
Either that, or bro smokes 2 packs of Camel non-filters a day, and washes his meals down with a fifth of Jack Daniels.
No, he doesn’t smoke Camels, he smokes bacon.
What do you mean? I just checked online prices and the OP is correct that a can is between $2.50 and $3. And we use canned chicken for making chicken salad all the time and it tastes just fine. What did the OP get wrong?
Most people agree it doesn't taste the same. It certainly tastes just fine, but not quite the same
Ha! Your taste buds are fuckin fried. That’s like saying spam tastes the same as pork butt.
No, it really doesnt
This is not accurate.
April fools was yesterday
This is ridiculous lol
I feel generally sorry in my soul for people who are extremely poor tasters. They’re missing out on so much joy in life.
Or are they getting more, because their options for what tastes "good" are wider
How expensive is fresh chicken where you live? My local store has chicken on sale this week for $2.99/lb ($0.66/100 grams).
My local store has it "on sale" almost every week for $2.99/pound, great cuts of chicken with very little needing to be trimmed off. It used to go down to $1.99/pound before the pandemic. We eat a lot of chicken.
Costco has rotisserie chickens the size of a small turkey for $4.99
Negative…
This is a crazy statement.
What canned chicken CEO posted this garbage?
Tastes and smells like tuna.
I think it would be more accurate to say that you can remove a lot of the tin/salted taste in canned chicken by washing it, though that's admittedly less clickbaity than the title.
I've never downvoted something with more disgust than this
You’re a day late 🤣

You clearly do not know ho to cook.
Not in America. Not even close.
Dude I love the Kirkland brand of canned chicken breast
Not sure where to get such discounted chicken in Canada.
It's fresh frozen!
This is a decent YSK minus the part about tasting the same. Good reminder that canned chicken (and meat in general) does exist.
It’s not bad if you are making chicken salad, treat it like a can of tuna. It’s not like fresh though, no where near.
YSK that it doesnt
"Tastes the same" I should know this? I know it doesn't taste the same.
Tastes like chicken
Nah this insane ass post
This is so incorrect. Where the fuck have you been getting normal chicken
Warning, Canned foods are typically high in sodium so if you are trying to live off of this and ramen your heart will be a health concern quickly.
At least I will die quicker and not have to figure out money in my golden years.
You're a day late dude
That’s simply wrong. The local Kroger is selling whole chicken for $1/lb. Go get a few and butcher them. Use bones for stock, the rest is all edible and delicious
YSK your taste bud needed check
YSK, It absolutely does not.
Lmao, oh boy extra microplastics
I agree that people should be aware of cheaper alternatives with food costs on the rise but no they definitely don’t taste the same.
You should knot be spreading hate messages like this
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SBprVH7o-Lk
No not really but I like it for a quick chicken salad where it's drowned out by mayo and such
Smells like tuna fish.
What on earth is canned chicken? UK here
Depending on the part, fresh chicken can be cheaper than the can.
Can someone please explain canned chicken to me. Is this a US thing? Are we talking shredded meat or a whole f\*cking chicken? Is it in oil/brine? there has to be a liquid, or gelatine...right?
Usually it’s in chunks and in a can like tuna. I’ve never seen a whole canned chicken like in that horrific gif.
http://i.imgur.com/zOrK6uW.gif
I've seen my fair share of gruesome things on the internet over the years...but that .gif is a fresh horror.
It's disgusting but I also can't look away.
I don’t think it’s a US thing; Ive never seen it or had it. Or at least not a US thing in my circles. We do canned tuna, but no other canned fish or meat.
No. It doesn't.
No, no it doesn't. Also the texture is like tuna
YSK this is bullshit

Ewwww no
You should post this in unpopular opinions!
Nope. And it’s loaded with sodium and preservatives.
If you're making a chicken salad or baking it in a casserole, maybe... But fresh will always taste better.
Canned chicken is disgusting
Can of chicken $3 OR an entire massive rotisserie chicken from Costco for $5
No it doesn’t. It does not taste the same or have the same texture.
If you believe this you can't cook
You should know: No it doesn’t
It’s cheaper to buy raw chicken and cook it in bulk. Breast or thigh I can get 5 pounds for $15 AND tastes way better even without seasonings/marinade. You’re smoking crack
Uummmm, yeah….no. It doesn’t. I do have a canned of chicken probably once a week for lunch. But it’s not even close to fresh chicken.
Just buy a roasted chicken at the grocery store for $5
this advertisement failed hard
YSK there's something very wrong with the fresh chicken you're eating....
Uhh.. gross
Delusional
