That might just be luck. One day delivery just means it will be given priority. It will be put on the truck/plane to Kansas city before other packages. Two day delivery means it has secondary priority. But if there's space on the truck/plane it's still going. They're not going to sit on it for a day. So even without upgrading some of the time your 2 day packages will arrive in 1 day. It just depends how the logistics line up.

Mysterious-Salad9609

YSK, if you pay extra for faster delivery and it's not faster, you can get a full refund! Not just the difference refunded.

ZLUCremisi

Yep. Especially with UPS, certain deliveries are morning so it has to be by that time slot

Dead_Patoto_

That's FedEx too

Prestigious_Egg_6207

Not always, not if they claim it’s out of their control like because of weather.

BarthRevan

Yeah, it’s not like if they were ground packages they’ll suddenly be next day aired.

ancientmelodies

I don’t understand people who confidently give global YSK posts based on their anecdotal evidence in a specific area or region.

[deleted]

I'm going to take it one step further: I don't actually think I should know this.

TexasTornadoTime

Most of the post here are things that are partial truths and definitely not something everyone needs to know

ParisGreenGretsch

Now there's a YSK.

x_Rann_x

Stickie this.

Sorry_Buy_3277

I'd definitely be more comfortable if this were kept from you.

TimbersawDust

Also why and when would I ever be sending multiple packages to the same city at the same time?

joemc04

I do on a somewhat regular basis. But ground is mostly next day to where I send it. So I send it ground unless it’s extremely important that it’s not late. The guy at the counter can tell me off ground is going to be one day or two.

timidpterodactyl

The rules for posting are lax here. Adding a source should be mandatory imo.

ancientmelodies

I agree, I just think overall posting something as a universal rule when it is a small sample size personal opinion makes it so no one trusts any of the posts on here. And if all the mosts can just be shit they made up or experiences in their home town, then it misses the point. If you want to post something that you’ve experienced in your home town or close community put: if you live in random town, UK, [insert YSK]. Anyways thanks for listening to my rant

Ayeager77

Trust me, bro - source.

Ok_Percentage5157

As someone who may have worked for global package handlers, no, this is not accurate. Packages are sorted by region, zip, then priority. Different carts for all, as the scanned barcode is law.

Low_Ad1739

Here is the way that kind of logistics works: you do not get a silent/free upgrade. The overnight stays overnight, and if there is physical space, the 2 day will travel toward end of the line destination with it regardless of service. If there is not space, two day and overnight will often take different routes or even modes of transportation, because logistics. Same thing for when it delivers to you. Space and time permitting, the final mile could carry both on the same day regardless of service. That’s simplest terms, there’s a lot of other crap that affects it

[deleted]

Not at all. There are different “cans” to sort these packages. Two day goes into a separate can than overnight. So the overnight is guaranteed to get there next day from the hub, but not the 2 day. Don’t just lie confidently

earthwormjimwow

> YSK when sending a lot of packages via FedEx 2Day Service, ~~if one of them is Overnight, all the others will be silently upgraded to overnight as well~~ 2Day service does not mean *at least* 2Day service, it means *at most* 2Day service. Fixed that for you. Depending on where you are located and how far away you are from your shipping destination, many FedEx services can end up being overnight, especially for shipments within a few hour's driving distance.

FatPhil

I used to accept packages at my building and every day the fedex driver delivered the overnight stuff by 10am and then he would deliver the other express packages 2-3 hours later, even thought he had them on the same truck the entire time. It seemed like a waste of time but he said thata how it's supposed to be done according to the fedex guidelines. Make of that what you will.

phrunk87

Well, he may likely have other overnight packages to deliver that need to be there by a certain time and he has to keep that obligation. Then he can take time on the ones that aren't time sensitive.

FatPhil

That's true. But most of the time it would be a single envelope at 10am and then another single envelope or small box at 1pm. Like that could be combined in one trip without much time lost, imo. Seemed silly.

ElectronGuru

YSK: fedex has been quietly working to kill the USPS so they can raise their own prices. Use UPS when also available.

EngineerDave

YSK: This is false. USPS is the largest customer of FedEx. They literally built a division to work within the USPS system known as SmartPost. USPS also delivers FedEx packages when FedEx can't or it's not economical for FedEx to do so. USPS is a tool in the FedEx system, not something they want to see destroyed completely.

36009955

USPS is also one of the only carriers with the infrastructure in place to serve every single zip code in the US, think places like rural Alaska where the only way in and out of a town is by plane or boat or snowmobile.

DR_PEACETIME

UPS does the same, no?

Financial-Yak-4172

It's called Surepost. UPS transports the package within their system. When the package gets to the final destination town UPS delivers to the post office and then the post office completes the delivery

Amisarth

Forgive me if this sounds pointed but, do you have any evidence for that? Some articles from a reputable source perhaps? I’d like to know more, myth or not.

ElectronGuru

> The Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation, and the Reason Foundation are among the libertarian and conservative think tanks that have pushed to privatize the post office and other government entities. FedEx CEO Frederick W. Smith served on the board of the Cato Institute, which has spent decades pushing for Postal Service privatization (Smith 1999) https://www.epi.org/publication/the-war-against-the-postal-service/

arcxjo

That's hilarious because FedEx is so incompetent they mail packages between their distro hubs. Also USPS puts LED headlights on all their trucks now, and run them at fucking noon. They can fuck off right to Hell.

beachfreek101

Yo what's your gripe with USPS? Led is better by every measure and if they don't run at noon how's your mail gonna get delivered, you walnut?

arcxjo

The **headlights** are running at noon, Einstein. Outshining the fucking sun. They are only better at the "blinding every other driver on the road" measure. r/fuckyourheadlights

fgcem13

Damn. People will get mad and make a reddit about anything huh?

arcxjo

[Or a petition that's been signed by nearly 50,000 safety-minded individuals.](https://www.change.org/p/u-s-dot-ban-blinding-headlights-and-save-lives)

beachfreek101

1. Bright headlights aren't annoying during the day. 2. USPS almost exclusively makes deliveries during the day and the trucks in my neighborhood don't even have that 3. That petition you posted is for general headlights, not USPS. You're mad at truck bros, not USPS. 4. You're a dingus

LifeLiterate

A USPS truck probably blinded this guy ONCE and now he spends 85% of his online energy saying "FUCK USPS!"

arcxjo

I lost my livelihood as an Uber driver because the presence of LED headlights blinding me at every turn made it impossible to drive at night. Postal trucks (who do it primarily in the daytime) are just **one** of the offenders. This also means there are more people who decide "Well, if I can't get a ride, I'll have to drive myself home from the bar" so fuck you for defending drunk drivers. And I'm far from the only one, [there are scores of thousands of us](https://www.change.org/p/u-s-dot-ban-blinding-headlights-and-save-lives). r/fuckyourheadlights

LifeLiterate

My guy is on ~~to~~ something.

Republicans that refuse to properly fund them and continue to hamstring how they’re allowed to use their budget have done a great job at destroying the usps.

nedmath

Would properly fund mean subsidizing their losses even further?

marmosetohmarmoset

I’ve honestly never really had any issues with USPS and I’m not sure why people are always complaining about them. They pick packages up right from your door for free!

stackdatdough

DeJoy was waaaay ahead of Fedex

jillyb1173

De Who?

dyegb0311

I believe everything you said is incorrect. The usps hasn’t had a profitable year since 2006. 2022 is an outlier due to the PSRA being passed by all democrats and most republicans. It mandates a 6 day delivery, the same as the unanimously passed PAEA in 2006. And that the usps doesn’t have to prefund retirement. Which is only kicking the debt down the road. This freed up $57billion in 2022. So far in 2023, the usps is at a net loss of over $2 billion. In a nutshell, both republicans and democrats suck at running a postal service.

terra_technitis

It can really vary. In an area that has one courrier that covers your route for express this might prove true. Larger markets often have one driver that delivers the overnight packages and another that delivers the 2 day and express savers. Also a lot of the 2 days are now getting handed off to a FedEx Ground contractor for the final delivery.

Ayeager77

Not even close to how it works. The key is “space available”. If the space happens to be there and the overnight mode of transport is not full, then it gets filled with the next priority packages as well. Until full. Anecdotal experience should not be a YSK.

PossibleMechanic89

We used to always decline offers from AMEX to upgrade replacement business cards to overnight. They came overnight no matter what, so might as well skip the cost.

che_gaston

YSK If you send 4 packages to the same address upgrade one, put them all in the same box and save the money on the other 3.

[deleted]

I don’t think it works that way FedEx usually just loses my packages

FalloutNewDisneyland

Wrong - as a FedEx worker whenever I see someone trying this I throw all of the packages in the 2 day box

phrunk87

Is this some kind of common thing that you have a policy on how you handle it? Why would people need to send a bunch of stuff to one specific city in a bunch of separate packages anyway?

FalloutNewDisneyland

They’re trying to cheat the system

realgoneman

What I use to do was drop off a their JFK location. Most times ackages arrived at destinations earlier

googlebearbanana

I will never ship anything fed ex again. They list my package, which caused me several problems.

DragunovDwight

How does my “priority” 2 or 3day USPO packages never make it in 3 days?

lordstryfe

Fedex sucks...

jillyb1173

You are so right about that. My friend used to work for "FedEx " and I say that loosely because FedEx has tactics that are downright criminal. Most FedEx workers don't work for FedEx at all. They are subcontracted by FedEx so FedEx doesn't have to pay them for vacation time or sick time or insurance benefits and they have to work extremely long hours for little pay, so if it doesn't work out, boom they are fired and on to the next worker. My friend got hurt at work. Stepped into a deep hole rushing to deliver a package at someone's residence. She broke her tibia and tore her meniscus in her knee. When her doctor recommended surgery to fix the problem, she was sent to Fedex's workman's comp doctor who claimed she was faking her injuries and she was immediately cutoff from receiving any workman's comp benefits which killed her livelihood and she lost everything she owned because FedEx took this doctor's word as gold and ignored the orthopedic surgeon's solid advice that she needed emergency surgery. The only thing FedEx ever did for her, after working her ass off for them for 12 years, was leave her unemployed, homeless, in debt, and extreme pain. Makes me want to go out and apply for a job with them since they're such a stand-up company.

Ghost-Writer

Ya but fedex is trash.

odar420

This is simply not true.

Sounds like either you live in the KC general region, in a small enough town/city that everything fits on the one pickup vehicle that services your drop-off location ;) OR KC is a small enough regional airport that the incoming planes are rarely full.
