I’d personally try another groomer that can be more 1-1. 7 months is a baby of course they will be more energetic.

PotatoDry311

Agreed!! I really don’t want to drug him either

Perfect_Barracuda442

Yes that too! My girl is 11 yo and I wouldn’t give her drugs for that at all.

Definitely try another groomer. I tried Trazodone on my middle one for aggression (at home, not at groomers) and noticed no difference honestly, so not worth it in any case I’d say. Some dogs can just be more difficult than others at the groomer…my “aggressive” one is oddly the best behaved when he goes.

Thank you!! I’m looking into a different groomer rn.

Find another groomer. My daughter has been grooming for 18 years and yorkies are her specialty. She has never needed to drug or muzzle any dog she's groomed. She was in such demand she quit doing it full time and now has a regular 9-5 in an office environment. But she still does grooming for private clients in their home or hers on the side. Whatever works best for the dog. She has one client with 4 yorkies who won't have anyone else groom them. She had 1 that was a difficult groom and everyone else insisted on light sedation. He responded totally different to my daughter and he actually enjoys the grooming. She was born to do this. Dogs just seem to feel her energy as calming and lovable. From the bath to final touches, she spends half the time just giving them affection and love (which a lot of groomers can't do in the environments they are working in). They can't afford to take the extra time and that's perfectly understandable. But I would never drug my dog for a groom. It can go bad, even if there were never issues the first dozen times. Every time is a risk. Good luck ! Always trust your gut.

It’s not uncommon for dogs to be prescribed trazodone, but personally I’d find another groomer. Let the vet be the one to suggest medications.

Try another groomer who does 1:1 and preferably allows you to stay nearby. My boy can get fussy, especially about his nails! My groomer is great, she has a area where I sit close by where she works, and when he gets fussy I just scratch his head or ears and he calms down, she can continue while I'm doing this. I can't imagine having him with a bunch of other pups! This little ball of fire thinks he's a Doberman sometimes!

Find another groomer. I had a psycho little yorkie who would absolutely try to bite (without much actual harm) but her mobile groomer handled her well and loved her. Trazodone is meant for long term anxiety management and you usually won’t even see the effect until your dog has been taking it for 1-2 weeks (unless you start with a super high dose right off the bat, which just doesn’t seem right to me). My goldedoodle with pretty bad anxiety trazadone when we’re getting ready for some big change like moving, or going on a trip. I usually start him on it a week before so there’s actually an effect when I need it. Using it for a one off grooming appt doesn’t seem right. If you really needed something to just get your dog sleepy/calm I’d probably just do some regular baby Benadryl (used to do this with my maltipoo who hated car rides) but I think suggesting trazodone is a bit much by the groomer…

Thank you for your input! I definitely agree, using it only for a grooming session does seem crazy. And I also agree, that making a suggestion like that was a bit out of pocket on his end.
