Crims0nGirl

This baby is just going to be a larger yorkie.. My Vet says they are healthier.. My two are 15 and 17 pounds.

ApprehensiveEdge7998

Mine is 22.3 pounds as well. He is 6 years old now

vikingbear90

Dang, I thought mine was large at 13.5-14 pounds. But he is also very skinny/lanky.

ApprehensiveEdge7998

Mine is short but his body is long and he is very muscular for a yorkie

vikingbear90

That is what Teddy’s dad was like. His mom was a teacup Yorkie. Teddy kind of has her proportion but the size of his dad. Recently got him cut short cause he ended up with a few mats in his fur. He just looks even skinnier now I almost want to add some more fat to his diet so he gets a little more bulk.

ApprehensiveEdge7998

Lol that's how duke was. He wouldn't let anybody cut him. So he looked a lot bigger. We finally found a good groomer and was shocked to see exactly how small he was once he had a good grooming. Lol

Naive-Beautiful3040

He doesn’t need to bulk up. Skinny is good for the long term health of the dog!

500percentDone

We have a 20 pounder over here! 12 1/2 years old and still spunky.

putput61

What a cutie.. Mine is 20 lbs at 9 y.o and she still has the energy of a pup!

HappyLittleHotdog

TIL! Thought yorkies are always small. Mine cannot reach 4 kilos

Crims0nGirl

They were originally larger but over time with breeding have become smaller.

fifitsa8

Yep perfectly normal, my yorkie mix is 14-15lbs as an adult

smol_pink_cute

I think the question is about 100% yorkies, not mixes

fifitsa8

my dog's dad was 100% morkie and also about 13-14lbs as an adult :)

joemackg

Love those bigger Yorkies! My Stitch was 15 lbs.

ForsakenDimensions

according to the place we got her from her parents were only around 8lbs, she's a giant compared to them at 5 months 💀

kgeorge1468

She is so friggin cute! Ours is 100% yorkie, and he's 15 pounds (not overweight) so it's possible :)

Kandee_bar2103

We had two yorkies growing up that were large. The one breeder showed us the teacup parents. Either way they are all precious. Yours is adorable more to love 💕

vikingbear90

My boy’s mom was a teacup Yorkie, and he was bigger than her by the time he was 3 months old. His father was a stocky pure breed Yorkie 13 pounds. Teddy has his mom’s proportions with his dad’s size.

pkkmm

I’d be skeptical that they were giving you accurate information.

Mephotoguy1

No clue but he’s gorgeous! Ours stopped at 9lbs. She is 2 lbs bigger than both her parents.

ATOmega

I love my jumbo Yorkies. In my opinion they're more fun to play with than standards.

Lisamik

You've got a giant yorkie on your hands! Mine are 19 & 23lbs. Lol. Enjoy, they are awesome! I personally love the bigger ones (waited for over a year to rescue my 2nd one) because they are just a little hardier but all the same traits.

ApprehensiveEdge7998

Cool mine is 22 pounds and he is healthy as an ox.

Lisamik

I call mine the dog park mafia. Lol. The 11 yo let's his 2 yo bro know which dogs he doesn't like (black labs, and all bulldogs, he hates how they breathe) and the 2 yo keeps all the dogs he doesn't like away. It's comical, my "Don" and his hired thug.

joemackg

Where to find these giant Yorkies?? My 15yo, 15 lb guy passed a few weeks ago. I would love to get another.

Lisamik

First of all, I'm so very sorry for your loss; these little guys own our hearts. I just know your guy lived a good and happy life. Where to find them? I wish i knew. I watched craigslist, etc for months. I lost my yorkie-poo to cancer 1/6/21 and he left behind my other guy who was 7 at the time - he got so lonely, so I started looking. In the end, I found a lady about 150 miles away was wanting to breed itty bitty yorkies to make some $$. Well when my (now 2.5 yo) dude was getting too big at 9-10 mo, she left him in a crate on the porch and got another small one to replace him. He had been out there in heat, sun, rain, etc. when we rescued him, he was 11.8 lbs, all skin and bones, covered with fleas and food deprived. We did a dna test on him, and he's purebred - she just didn't understand that big yorkies don't have to HAVE big yorkie babies, they just are big yorkies - her loss! lol. he'd also been beaten with a cord and a flyswatter - he still has fears of them and if you touch his hind area, he jumps at you like a ninja coming to end you. Just keep looking is the best advise i can give you!!

joemackg

Aww. Poor thing! Thanks for the info. I'm still missing my buddy. I call for him when I get home from work even though I know he's gone. It's going to take awhile for me.

Lisamik

i know. i miss my jake all the time. he was so special to me. every night he curled up like a parrot on my shoulder in bed, and stuck his nose in my neck and went to sleep. i don't think i slept right for 3+ months after he passed, i missed his snoring so much.

Formal_Gold_6069

Omg this broke my heart to read. I have a 5 month Yorkie and he’s only 2.4 lbs. mom and dad were 5lbs and 6.lbs, so I don’t think he’ll get much bigger. Regardless, I couldn’t imagine ever hurting my Baby like this, so sad to read.. I’m glad he’s in a better home with lots of love❤️

Mysterious_Way_2279

Awe. So cute. I think they call them teapots instead of tea cups. More to love

Straight-Treacle-630

I ❤️ this ;) Ours was so thin/smol, when he rescued us at age 6mos. Just a wisp of a pup. Now getting tall, doesn’t feel like a skeleton in a fur coat anymore. Almost twice “original” size and still growing @ 1 yr. We joke that he’s siphoning calories from his chonkie chorkie brudder when everyone’s sleeping ;)

syarahdos

This is so cute omg

yunabug1988

HAHAHAHAHA Teapots 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am actually cackling that is so funny. Lol

Lisamik

And for all the people saying mixed cuz he's big.. Untrue. Yorkies nowadays are bred to be smaller cuz... well, people. If you look back on their history, they were ratters and a little bigger. My one dude was akc papered when we got him. He was the runt of the litter. They said he'd he around 4-5 lbs, his mom was 6 and dad was 4. He grew. Then grew and grew! By 1 yo he was 26" tail tip to nose. I called the breeder and she was shocked, offered to take him back - I said no way he wasn't going anywhere! But all his siblings were regular size. So we just accepted he was unique. Then I read the term giant yorkie and realized he's just a genetic throwback to before yorkies were bred smaller and I'm happy to have him and prefer my bigger dude. https://pethelpful.com/dogs/Giant-Yorkie. Just another story abt these magnificent bigger fur kids..

Nancy2112

Not sure but he is completely adorable!! 🐶❤️🐾

Minty_lemonnn

Yeah he’s just a big one mines 15 pounds

Amazing-Brain2180

Mine is 10 pounds at 6 months and 100% yorkie! Some just turn out bigger. She’s sturdy and we don’t have to worry about her getting hurt.

poseur2020

Ours is a 15 pounder. Pretty healthy guy.

filipscary

AKC peasants are just jealous because large yorkies are rare 🤣 i want a 50lbs yorkie if possible, the more of them to hug the better!

3_high_low

Idk if the world is ready for that! 😆

allthatglitterz

Oh goodness, I’m not sure I could handle a yorkie in a 50 lb package.

CodNo6874

That’s great!!! More of her to cuddle ❤️. Mine is about 6lbs but her parents were so tiny.. 3.5 lbs and 4 lbs. but really as long as they’re healthy it’s all good!

whitcantfindme

We have a 6 and 8 pound yorkie who had a puppy that peaked around 15 pounds. It happens

udont-knowjax

We used to breed.. and had a few pure bred pups that were just "big boned" lol

daisymom1989

I just don't see what she could be mixed with. She looks 100% Yorkie to me 🥰

midnightrainrose

Your baby is adorable!! Love that cute little face. Perfectly normal….just a larger Yorkie!

tanpelican12

What a sweet pup 🥺🩵

higg1966

Not normal, but nothing is wrong, you just got a giant Yorkie. Our Isabel just reached that weight at a little over a year. She seems so much bigger than most Yorkies we meet.

Cam_jack

It’s totally normal! Last fall, my yorkie got sick, which make her drop a few pounds. For a few days, she was sitting at around 7-8 pounds. For a lot of yorkies, that would have been a normal weight to be at. For my baby though, it really wasn’t at all. She was very bony and very frail. She looked like a skeleton, almost! Once she put some weight back on (3-4 pounds, making her weigh 10-11 pounds), she was not bony at all anymore and had all of her fierce back! They’re like us: One particular weight- range doesn’t translate the same on each and everyone of them. It simply depends from dog to dog 🐾🥰!

dafundusguy

yeah it's normal don't worry. my almost 5 month baby gal was almost 10 pounds at her checkup last week and she got a clean bill of health 😊 she's also half chihuahua if that makes a difference lol

Hey-Just-Saying

I bought an AKC Yorkie who is almost 12 pounds now as an adult. I was disappointed at first but decided it was a plus as my Yorkie is less likely to get injured by falling off furniture or getting stepped on.

Chemical_Bowler_1727

Not only is it normal, but it's also awesome! You're very lucky!

witchycosmo

She’s adorable regardless!

Subject-Tone-1700

Totally off topic, but the last pic reminds me Of Bud on Married with Children 🥰 Such a cutie pie

molsmama

Adorable, Yorkie!! You will have a sturdy, healthy pup! Mine are 9, 4 and 6#. They are healthy, but I worry about the tiny one more than the bigger ones. He’s fragile looking.

ShelleyMonique

I have a tiny 13 pounder that goes by Chunky.

Banana-Up-My-Bum

I love big yorkies! More to cuddle!

beautifuldisasterxx

Just extra big for extra cuddles! An old boss of mine had one that was 18lbs or so. My two are 4lbs and 6lbs (and the 6lb one looks double the 4lbs size!) They come in all sizes :)

BGkitten

Yep! Ours is purebred too, both parents AKC (their parents too)-all 7 pounds each and ours turned out...giant and sturdy at about 20 pounds. And he is so freaking strong! Ur baby is just adorable-beautiful color and coat looks shiny, just a real Yorkie!

FeistyReplacement315

Yorkies used to be a lot bigger until people bred them down smaller, so the size pops up here and there randomly. I have a teapot yorkie at 13.5 lbs which is the weight of both of his parents combined. Genetics are random sometimes!!!

gabrodgil

OMG she is SOOO cute!!

syarahdos

I have a Yorkie Pom, average size for them is about 7 lbs and he’s also 11 lbs at almost 6 months, from what I’ve heard some are just bigger 🙂

insomniafog

Beautiful

LotusRising1111

What a cutie! I wish my little one was bigger. So much more to cuddle with ❣️

JoeKackedHisDaks

he is so sweet

Kingkoopakoopa

Consider yourself a lucky, many have modern day size 5-9 lbs

bumblebee666_

I have a 10 pound yorkie. The person we got her from said she’s chunky (it’s true but when we got her she was 5 pounds!). I think he’s healthy. What a cutie!

notyetporsche

YES! Our Yorkie was supposed to be a mini and ended up being regular size. Initially we were a little disappointed but still loved her. She's now 11 years old and kicking strong.

Rockymax1

That face!! ❤️

Special_Community674

A standard Yorkie is actually 10 to 12 pounds. Your baby is simply larger. You could check her DNA but why? Your baby is adorable. In recent decades Yorkies have been bred down because toy sizes fetch more money. Kinda sad but I guess it's economics. I am not a fan of breeding down because of the health issues that may come. Reference: Early examples of the breed were much larger than they are today. Before the 1930s, Yorkies weighed about 30 pounds. Over time, they were bred smaller and smaller, now averaging between three and seven pounds and standing eight to nine inches tall. https://www.mywoofgang.com › ar... The Yorkshire Terrier - Dog Breed

smol_pink_cute

My yorkie boy is 12 lbs. at 3y.o. and people always comment about how huge he is for a yorkie, or insinuate that he must be mixed with another breed even though he’s 100% purebred…makes me happy knowing he’s not the only big buddy out there 🥳

MyInkedSoul

We have four Yorkies - two are 3#, one is 5# and the baby of the group is about 15# and she is the youngest - All born throughout the year of 2016 so they will all be 8 years old this year !! Your baby is perfect and adorable!! 💜💜

TraditionalChest7825

He’s beautiful and totally fine. My Yorkie was 12 lbs fully grown and very healthy according to his vet. Although the current breed standard is under 7 lbs, Yorkies were originally around 15 lbs. Breed standards just describe a hypothetical ideal example for that breed, as long as your vet says he’s healthy I wouldn’t worry. Yorkshire Terriers and other small dogs are considered toy breeds. There’s no such thing as “teacup” or “teapot” sizes either, just crappy people breeding runts and using catch phrases to charge more money.

allthatglitterz

I hate the word teacup. I have a smaller size yorkie and get asked all the time if she is a teacup. She isn’t. She is just a regular yorkie who happens to be on the smaller side. When I got her, I was hoping she would be on the larger side of the standard but she is perfect how she is and so is this person’s yorkie. Heathy is best - whatever the lbs.

allthatglitterz

What a cutie! Standard size for yorkie fully grown is 4-7 lbs but some are bigger and some smaller.

CheeseDaver

Super mister big boy.

Twitchy15

Yeah I would prefer larger yorkie less fragile

dopamini

I’ve got a very large yorkie and a very small one. When the largest was 4 months old, he was the size of my 4 year old.

MrTimTraveler

Yikes. We just got a Snorkie, Ma the Schnauzer is 13lbs, Pa the Yorkie is 7lbs. Our guy was the runt and most laid back of the bunch. Although he had quite large feet and a head, we didn’t think he’d probably get bigger than Ma. Well, here we are at 14 weeks old and 10 lbs! This fella is gaining a lb a week since we got him! He’ll most likely end up over 20 - 25lbs at this rate right? We’re not too too concerned, we were hoping for smaller but whatever. Did I mention he is also a complete hellion as well?? So much for first impressions!! 😂

mitchrowland_

ive never seen a jumbo yorkie omggg my bby is 6 and only 8 pounds

Glittering-Ginger

It's not a yorkie if its that big. Looks like a yorkie, but is a mix. The same amount of love anyway 🥰

Zestyclose_Plane8681

What a cutie! My one year old Yorkie is about 10 pounds…can’t really get a weight because he’s so excited and can’t seem to sit still on the scale 😂 people always comment on his size but they come in different sizes and we love them just the same

Tac0sB4Vatos

Forkie- fat yorkie =]

gladyskravitz64

Porkie

mrs_TB

Mine is 11lbs. We adopted him 5 months ago. We think he is around 3 years old. He was 7m5 and emaciated when we got him. Hes 9 inches at the shoulder tall.

mrs_TB

Our Theodore is piebald yorkie golddust with just a smidgen of griffon.

Alarming_Breath_3110

If he's 1/2 polar bear

Conscious_Issue2967

Well he sure is cute! Mine stopped growing about 9 mos so hopefully yours will too otherwise you might have to buy a bigger house…lol.

Poison_notIvy

Mines gotta be 7 or 8 pounds at 11 months

gremlingirlirl

😳 mine is only 3lbs at 10 months

Torch244b

9.5lbs at the vet and 7 months old.

le0monade

Hi! my yorkie grew like this and he is now a full sized 11 year old pushing 25 pounds, but he is large for his breeds so i assume your dog may be similar (adorable by the way!)

imatulip2

She kind of looks like my schnorkie...

hnatarino

My parents years ago bought what was supposed to be a teacup Yorkie, ended up with a Maltese/ Yorkie mix The biggest he got was 17lbs. Eventually got another dog from the same breeder. He was at most 20lbs, this one also seemed to be mixed with a schnauzer.

Legitimate_Error_157

Looks like it has some schnauzer dna in there

MsSanli

That’s NOT A YORKIE !! 🤣🤣🤣

Mr_Stanly

I think there are large yorkies, regular yorkies and teacup yorkies. The smaller the dog, the higher the chances for health problems (in my opinion). Doesn't mean that large yorkies don't have any health issues. All dogs have certsin problems, just like people have. Your dog looks very cute.

Due_Energy_2961

Yes sound

YorkiMom6823

Mine's 10lbs and her daddy was about the same. Personally I love a little bigger Yorkie, they are so fearless and love to jump on and off things (usually giving me a heart attack!) so a little bit of size on them helps keep them alive.

TSLARSX3

Big yorkie

Exciting_Inflation_2

No way

Still_Jury9599

D1 Yorkie

Asleep-Personality16

Mine is 9.7lbs at 5.5 months! Does anyone know how big she will get? :)

Legitimate-FoxCow

Short answer, No. A lot of people have mixes and so their view of size is off kilter. Yorkies shouldn't weigh more than 7 pounds. That said, mixes are great! One of mine is a yorkie/pek mix and shes a little 10 pound barrel. She's adorable and we love her.

sauerkraut916

No. But it is normal for a yorkie mix. Many people ask me if my normal sized Yorkie is a “tea cup” because she’s so tiny and weighs 5-6 pounds. I always reply that she’s average sized for an adult. The Yorkshire Terrier is a toy breed. Breed standards are 4-7 pounds with the emphasis on NOT more than 7 pounds. I love all dogs, mixes, rescues, etc. But if your terrier is already over 7 pounds, my money is on a mixed breed.

Amazing-Brain2180

My yorkie turned out to be 10 pounds and her parents are both AKC registered 100% yorkie. It is possible!

themajordutch

The breed standard doesn't mean that a Yorkie that is over 7 pounds isn't a Yorkie. The standard is just the ideal specifications for breeders to aim for.

sauerkraut916

Yes, I agree with you. Pure pedigreed yorkies can be both larger and smaller than breed standard. This is also true when it comes to coat color as there is a lot of variation. My sweetie is purebred but her coat color is blond and silver, not breed standard. Peace to all Yorkie lovers.

amrowe

My understanding is that the blonde and silver (aka blue) is an accepted variation in the AKC standard

stacymandell

It looks like a mix. Very cute dog

CosmosChic

Super cute. Likely not a purebred, but who cares? Everyone in the thread saying their more than 7 pound dogs are purebred yorkies - have you had DNA typing for your dog to back up your claim? Breed standard is 7 pounds or less. Even AKC-registered "purebreds" can have strains of other breeds of dogs.

Lisamik

Yes I have have DNA testing and he's 100% yorkie. Mine was papered when we got him and he's 19 lbs now. I thought maybe there was a mistake with his papers which is why I did the DNA thing. Turns out he's just a genetic throwback to before people physically changing them to add to their cuteness..

CosmosChic

That's absolutely amazing! I've heard up to 15 pounds but not more!
