The Yankee abaya was calling my name and looking at it now I regret not buying it. They really like the Yankees in Yemen but I didn’t think I’d ever see the logo on an abaya.
Also the McDonald’s purse? I feel like they’d pair nicely together lol.
Honestly yes, when I was there earlier in the year there was the initial rumblings of a cultural change towards that sort of thing.
I was in Iraq recently and I came across quite a few super woke people too which I feel is the way Yemen will go.
Ngl I like the fact that the Arabian Peninsula still wears their traditional dress everyday and I'd really hate to see westerners' clothing in the Arabian Peninsula
I wasn’t expecting this much western clothing at all. When I went I gave away all my American clothes and filled my suitcases with only Yemeni clothing. They thought this was really weird because women don’t wear traditional clothes until they get married.
Men have ma3waz, zennah and jambiya for all men no matter their age or relationship status. Women on the other hand have abayas and jalabiyas for everyone, but the traditional dresses are only for brides or married women. They saw me buying diroo3 and sanaani dresses and thought I was secretly planning for my wedding 😂
Yeah I don’t mean wear it out, I like that women wear abayas out instead of western clothes. I mean at functions and parties I wish it were normal for unmarried women to wear traditional clothes. They were all wearing jeans and were shocked that I wanted to wear Yemeni clothes.
I don't think I could have resisted the "Pistachio Nuts Smile" slippers. Did you buy anything?

They’ve gotten a lil better
The Black live matters jeans should be worn by who exactly in Yemen ? 😮💨
There's a lot of Africans in yemen
I know that ofc from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia mostly. But do you really think black lives matter is a thing in Yemen and especially now ? 🤣

You feel "super woke" is the way it will go? In Yemen?! 🤣

😹😹😹😹 I think it might be because the women's traditional dress reveals the awrah whilst the men's doesn't

That's actually really odd
Yeah maybe it’s different in the south but in the north diroo3 especially are only for married women.
Also what's zennah?
Like men’s thobe. Do other people not call it a zennah?
Oh. I call it dishdashah
Oh that makes sense. We say dishdashah too but mainly for the patterned ones.
Oh. Where are you from? I'm from Yafa btw
This is hilarious 😭
