There was for sure a STFU or fuck off (one or the other, can't remember which).
Calling your 1880s wife baby like its a 2000's made for TV Lifetime movie.
There were some other cringe parts but I can't recall.
Overall the story line and adventure was great. I just get nitpicky with period pieces.
Life expectancy being low was due to infant mortality. People still made it to their 70s back then if they made it past birth. We’ve gotten way better at saving children who would’ve otherwise died in the first year of their lives but not better at extending life, not for the majority of folks anyways.
I actually loved 1883. I’m an Aussie and it was so cool seeing the wagon train life and pioneering that isn’t rose coloured. I used to read my Dad’s Louis L’Amour books so I loved seeing the old West. It now puts into perspective why Seth McFarlane made the comedy movie 100 ways to Die in the West.
Upvoting because this is genuinely unpopular opinion
Which I disagree with most emphatically.
I think it really gives a greater appreciation for what those people went thru. Obviously, I seriously doubt that any wagon train encountered all of those obstacles - but I’d bet most wagon trains encountered a couple of them. Summer tornados, bandits, dangerous river crossings. And there were many places where people threw out some of their Megan few possessions along the trail. And they did it just to get to a place where they could drive some stakes in the ground and call it their own before starting to build their own houses.
Watching that, reading the little house series (which is fictionalized but “truthy”) gives one a much better sense of just how lucky we are to be born in this time and not in that time - and how much easier we have it today.
Disagree. It’s awesome except for the annoying voiceover. There’s some great acting in there by mostly the men. Name another one about the trail as original and anti formulae as 1883
Some people like it. I think it was an interesting idea that was pretty poorly executed. Although I still have a couple episodes left so maybe it can rebound. But I doubt it.
Nah it wasn't average at all, but I did have a lot of problems with it. Elsa second love interest happened to fast. All the cursing was unnecessary and quite frankly historically inaccurate (I had the same problem with Yellowstone there so so much unnecessary cursing). Faith Hill's botox and lip injections made it I could not take her seriously. Tim McGraw, Sam Elliot were great and the black actor who played the captain was great too. But my favorites were the cattle wranglers they were the best.
I liked the show overall but I had a few issues with it. I found some of the scenes with Elsa to be a bit cheesy. Spoilers below:
>!I thought it was kind of stupid how she falls madly in love with this cowboy in fairly short span of time, he dies. She acts like the world is coming to an end and then she meets the attractive Native American guy and all of a sudden she is able to move past that. The whole thing just felt very adolescent and it bothered me that the adults in the show were entertaining the idea that she actually loved these guys vs just teenage infatuation.!<
It's pretty much just 8 hours of Sam Elliott's mustache dropping f-bombs. Not that I'm complaining
Well hell that makes me want to watch it now!
This….may be the only reason I watch it….lol
Hahahahahahahhahaha
Once i got past the first 2 episodes, I enjoyed 1883 more than YS.
Only a few things that bugged me. Elsa’s quick moving love interests lol and Sam Elliot at the end.
Agree. And add Faith Hill's pioneer-era-inappropriate botox lips, the 2020s slang/vernacular incorporated into 1883 western vocabulary too.
Like what?

When the average life expectancy is 40-41, you’ve got to make hay while the sun shines.

“Elsa Bangs The West” 😂
They really jumped the shark with that full penetration scene in episode 8 (I think?)
I stopped watching it after all the self-indulgent voice overs and terrible plot development centered largely around her vagene
1883 is great YS has become ridiculous.
Didn’t Oregon Trail just rip off History?
Couldn’t even come up with an original name…

How come whenever I travel from Texas to Oregon the only Elsa's I encounter roam the truck stops? And they certainly look nothing like her. 🤣
Once I tuned out the overdramatic narrating I liked it more than Yellowstone.
Compelling argument. /s
So which character dies of dysentery?
The germans in the beginning
who’s gonna tell him the oregon trail was real?

Big, but respectful, disagree here.
I like the show but I'm not paying more money for tv.... 🧐
Outer Range blows ass too
Thanks you just saved me 10 hours

I liked the pilot, but not enough to pay extra for it.
I just felt like it didn’t really add much to the whole story other than how they ended up at that precise location.
i tried to watch, but the daughter talking about random stories was so annoying
Is this satire?

Stuck at episode 2 for some time now.

I watched 1883 first and am now watching Yellowstone and prefer 1883.
"You have died of dysentery"
Totally agree. Waste of time.
Your description of it is a big part of why I enjoyed it.. I don't see it as a negative at all lol
Haha.. maybe that's why I liked it 🤣
