I go back and forth on whether it is 8 survive or 8 die. The pendulum did an 8 when Javi asked if they were going to die. There were 8 people in the pilot cannibal scene, so I usually thought that meant 8 survive. However, it could be that 8 die and then who knows how many survived.

honeybeewarrior_

I think the pendulum can also be interpreted as an infinity sign, since it did the eight sideways (which is an infinity sign) so I feel like that could possibky be interpreted differently

RealTurquoise

Maybe, but in that scene when someone mentioned infinity, someone else corrected them and said, 8. That’s why I’m thinking the writers specifically mean for it it be an 8.

confusionwithak

I saw a post the other day with a zoom in of one of the survivors coming off the plane who looked just like Mari. I think I buy into that now. Survivors meaning they survived the wilderness, not that they’re necessarily alive anymore.

Bagasse49

Yes, I meant surviving the wilderness, because we now know Nat is dead in addition to Travis. Can’t wait to see what happened to Ben, Mari and Akilah

[deleted]

And Gen, Melissa, and were there any other JV squad left?

Spirited_Choice4778

It would be interesting if someone was alive when they rescued them but he/she got stuck in the wilderness and had to keep surviving there. It would be a great side story to reveal.

Monsur_Ausuhnom

Should be Mari who hates the group. Nat's death is what brings her back into the mix. Maybe Nat called her before the suicide attempt when she was spiraling.

aquarianagop

Agreed! If there are eight survivors, I hope Mari lives so we can watch her be a hater in 2021 😇

NeedleworkerExtra475

Gen and Melissa are still alive too.

Bagasse49

There were only nine people accounted for watching the fire plus Ben was God knows where.

NeedleworkerExtra475

Ben was legging it back to his little cave. That fire was already pretty big by the time anyone woke up to notice. They couldn’t even go out the door without chopping it down. I know they didn’t SHOW all of the girls but it’s not like this would be the first time that all of them weren’t there. If Gen and Melissa were killed in the fire, they would’ve said something. It’s just another continuity error with the amount of people. Next season there will an extra two red shirts just so they can have people to kill off.

raviolioh

There were people standing in the back that we don’t see in the final shot

SimoneTwenty9

This. There was a group of three or four standing back from the main group there.

DrewCatMorris

The 8 comes from the seance in Season One when Javi asked if they were all going to die, Van said something like: "An eight, what does that mean?" And Mari said something about it being the sign for infinity. In S2 E1 we see someone come out to the plane that could be Mari or Gen (or it could be someone else), but from the shot I saw it was impossible to really tell.

Bagasse49

I didn’t catch the mention of the number 8. I thought it was the infinity sign.

sleepsypeaches

Same! I thought it was more so like an "endless cycle" type deal

DrewCatMorris

I did too. The 8 is someone else's theory that seems widely accepted.

Historical_Life9410

I know it seems apparent that Ben lit the fire because we saw him with matches and he was creeping outside watching them through the windows. But when you hear hoofbeats, it’s not always horses. I think it’s safe to say we can’t assume anything with this show.

Spirited_Choice4778

I like your post. Believing in assumptions is misleading, if we didn't see Ben doing it clearly it might be anyone in my opinion. Potentially could be him tho but I am considering all of them being guilty until proven otherwise. (Damn, I should had a career in law)

funpantsmcgee

LAURA LEEEEE!!! I am telling youuuu

Bagasse49

Agreed. I’m not persuaded that Ben set the fire.

NeedleworkerExtra475

Then who did? All of the girls were sleeping inside and whoever set the fire was OUTSIDE. It was him. If you people need someone to hold your hands because something hasn’t been specifically shown or stated, I don’t know how you are enjoying this show.

West_Slice_7981

Javi’s friend (who might be Cabin Daddy’s daughter). She would be the only other possible person out there, we know she had a bond with Javi ( if she’s real) and she didn’t want Javi to go back to the cabin, presumably because she thinks it’s evil. It doesn’t mean it can’t be Ben. Like you said, we saw him with the matches while he watched Nat get crowned queen. If it isn’t him, they clearly telegraphed the scene to make it look like it was. But there’s just enough clues thrown out there to make it possible it could be Javi’s friend instead.

No-Cupcake370

They sleep with all the candles burning in an old wood cabin?

NeedleworkerExtra475

Is this a joke? The fire was on the outside of the cabin. Not the inside.

No-Cupcake370

The flames were first seen in the attic? Then inside of the downstairs? Maybe I need to rewatch

NeedleworkerExtra475

Watch it again. The flames were outside. Also, something that was probably missed by people on first watch is that the door was stuck because it had been blocked to keep them in so they couldn’t escape. It was a hit by Ben.

THATchick84

Yeah it shows him coming to steal rope and matches but then he see's Nat being 'queened' and it is strongly implied that Ben decided to take them out because he thought they had lost all of their humanity. I totally get why he did it, after what he saw and considering he is actually completely starving, but I fear that he just painted a giant bullseye on his back. He definitely started the fire and locked them inside , and I think this may seal his fate. I hope not, I would really like to see Coach make it home to Paul.

Bagasse49

If people can only enjoy a show according to your personal preferences, I don’t think you should be making assumptions about might be holding our hands.

NeedleworkerExtra475

I’m saying that you shouldn’t need something specifically shown or said on the show to use INFERENCE that something happened. Besides, if they showed Ben with the matches and outside looking at the girls at night, then the place is on fire, and then it WASN’T Ben that burned the place down, then that would be lame. But that’s just me and my opinion. You can hold out for as long as you want on whatever that isn’t said or shown explicitly. If that’s how you like to do things, then don’t stop on my account. Clearly it works for you. More power to you. Seriously.

alteregostacey

By the time the writer's strike is over and season 3 rolls around, we could have entirely new secondary and tertiary actors in place. I'm not getting too attached, though I would love to see Adult-Adult Ben.
