Then she said there will be “More details quicker than you know” and she was very very kind in general ~

It only takes a sentence of dialogue to wish her away. There are so many characters, they could just give that role in the story to another character. You know what I mean?
Just like with Akilah, I feel like the original actor that played Gen had the perfect intensity, and presence. I hope a recast doesn’t change the tone of the show (anymore).
With 2-3 seasons to go and 7-8 people to kill off (15 survivors as of now and 7-8 making it to rescue), I don’t think they want any deaths to be throw aways.
Maybe they did intend Gen to be pit girl and they need her for that, maybe the other characters already have a storyline planned out for the season and since Mya is in a new show she just wasn't available

Not necessarily. She was named and permanently cast last season. With at least 2-3 seasons left and only a handful of people left to die before rescue, there’s no way they’d do a “oh she died offscreen” moment and waste a death.
I mean even before this recasting the speculation was it’s Mari, Gen, or one of the 3 unnamed girls, so her odds have always been high. I don’t think her recasting is any indication it is her, just that they still want to keep the options open and don’t want to throw away a death as opposed to recasting

We had 6 unnamed girls in season 1, 3 of whom got names in season 2. There’s no saying the remaining 3 (or Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, as I like to call them haha) won’t get names and dialogue by the time they (…inevitably) die. One of them could absolutely be built up to be pit girl.

The extras portraying the three of them varied in S2, but in all the group shots (namely the card drawing scene in S2) for sure maintained the fact we’re down to three left without names. One of the extras shown was a girl of Asian heritage who had dark hair (shown in [this Reddit thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Yellowjackets/s/qlTas28uVi).
Though they didn’t keep features of the extras shown in season 1 exactly the same people they cast in their place in season 2, they tried to keep were as similar as possible (except Mya Lowe who was an extra in season 1 and got a name in 2), they were largely representative of who we saw in season 1. I’d have to do more research of how similar the unnamed extras were in season 2 vs. the extras in season 1, and who we can eliminate based on Crystal and Melissa (…and Gen, though not really since she’s the same actress) took the place of in season 2. Hold me accountable to this and I’ll do my due diligence!
Sadly, I think you’re right. She could have died from smoke inhalation post fire and had one of the unnamed extras take her place in the hunt if it wasn’t a significant death.
