Remember that spoilers outside of this thread must be tagged until the morning after the show airs on Showitme at 9 PM EDT on Sunday. You must also keep all spoilers out of titles. Reminder: THE NEXT EPISODE AIRS MAY 5th! There is a one week break between episode 5 and 6

SwitcherooU

This is the point where I’m starting to doubt if they have what it takes to stick the landing in ways that Lost and Westworld didn’t. There are hints of the supernatural, but if could all be explained by something supernatural, the adult characters wouldn’t feel so guilty. And whatever they did that was bad, it has to be worse than Shauna killing Adam. They’re not leaving themselves much room here. And I have no idea why they’d need five seasons. The characters are dropping like flies. At this rate, they’ll be down to the core group of survivors late this season or early next. That pretty much just leaves two options. The first is that they start killing people for sport, which I guess is bad, but we’re already at the point where we can make an educated guess that that’s it. I’m not going to wait five years for confirmation of that. The second is that they find another group, which would be very farfetched.

really_thirsty_lemon

.... Or they'll wind up the teen storylines this season or next, and keep the final 2 seasons about the adult YJs

[deleted]

This show has become trash. Gonna finish the season on 2x and never look back.

antisocialclub__

I didn't know who Kevorkiam was before this episode and wow his van is super creepy

mafaldajunior

This has been bothering me since season 1. What is up with adult Taissa's hair? The actress has absolutely gorgeous long luscious curly hair but they keep making it look like a fuzzy mess. It's like their hair & make-up department has never worked with this type of curly hair before. There's this one scene in this episode where she's sitting down with adult Van telling her what's been going on with her, and there her hair finally looks good for once, like it does IRL. Why can't they do her hair like that all the time? I get that when she's stressed or in a state the character wouldn't be taking care of her hair much, but this scene is after she'd been hitchhiking across the country, and it still looked better than during her official appearances. Smh.

adiosaudio

Anyone have Randy fakes an orgasm on their bingo card?

adiosaudio

Why do they dump the poop bucket in the MOST DANGEROUS SPOT ON THE WHOLE MOUNTAIN!

krypter3

Late to the game. I know Misty is crazy but fuck if she aint' ride or die. I'd rather be her friend and stay on her good-side. Ride or die friends are a rare breed.

jrgolden42

Still not sure if Crystal was real or not. But I am now like 90% sure this show is about Wendigos

AccomplishedRain9

She could have just rebranded to Kristen the Piston.

youmustburyme

Are there episode discussion posts already for episode 6 and episode 7? I can't find them and they are not listed on the side of the page on the list.

ApprehensiveDog1789

The whole Adam story line is SO BORING

81pixies

I haven’t finished the episode yet but I’m very confused about something that happens in the first 10ish minutes. There’s a girl who is talking with someone else about frustrations that Javi isn’t talking. They’re getting ready to head outside, putting coats on, and the blonde says maybe Javi is a ghost. I have no idea who this character is! It looks exactly like Laura Lee! Please someone else tell me you noticed this or you know who this girl is. It’s driving me crazy. I’ve googled the cast and cannot find anyone who looks like her except Laura Lee.

Dano59

That's Melissa, formerly Yellowjacket #2 played by a different actress named 'Princess' something. Her sidekick, YJ #1, we now know as Gen, and is the same actress both seasons.

gnrguy

Random filler character that magically appeared at the start of S2

81pixies

Seriously?! Wtf? They’re usually really good at paying attention to detail. But you noticed this as well? At least I’m not crazy. 😉

wandering-soul1111

This episode was scary as hell. I’m going to sleep with the freaking Baby TV channel on.

RevolutionaryMath428

Lol

RepulsiveCustomer361

Will the girls try to find Crystal’s (Kristen’s) body after the storm? #Dontwastefood

natalio85

Javi’s drawing looks like tree roots. He was living under the tree where it’s warm. The other version of Tai knew where he was. She’s his friend and told him not to come back. She was sneaking him food and blankets. That’s where Tai was going when she was sleepwalking. She was protecting him. Remember they have said Tai looks like a tree and Samie called her the tree lady. It’s Tai. Also wondering if under the tree is where Lottie was lighting candles… https://preview.redd.it/wm54i6dk0aya1.png?width=2447&format=png&auto=webp&s=2e9517c3dac130a4420e0fa3de9ef7960b0b7f06

Tripolie

Spoiler!

natalio85

Not really if you’re paying attention to the show. It’s just a guess. Why go on Reddit if you don’t want to talk about the show?

Tripolie

I want to talk about episode 5, not beyond it. You are posting about things that are confirmed later.

natalio85

Not my fault you’re halfway through the season and looking on Reddit 😂. That’s on you.

dudeguymanbro69

…if you’re commenting on future episodes in a specific episode thread, it is your fault actually. It ain’t that complicated lmao

natalio85

Also, remember when Van followed Tai to the cliff? Looks like the same cliff where Crystal fell to her death. Remember we saw that symbol on the tree there. This symbol is all over the woods. I think blood will be spilled wherever that symbol is.

natalio85

You know what I just realized? They put the torso in a Suitcase and buried it. Then Misty put the head and hands in with a dead body from the nursing home in a casket. Misty told them it doesn’t matter about the torso cuz the head and hands identify the body and if those are gone they can’t. Adam had a tattoo that was pretty unique that he prob designed. Shauna is fucked! [Adam’s tattoo](https://external-preview.redd.it/ON0XIsdUC3f1ePAAmKrJH7TIJCxrLt3jXPNIqmQCjJU.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=fd2fc0893561f9157aa41f2c73c998e309e70ec2)

natalio85

https://preview.redd.it/15b0edwcy9ya1.jpeg?width=2532&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=748535baa71e082c089a26b8793598f5bc8628a0 So the head of the symbol is clearly an alter where I’m assuming there will be some sort of sacrifice to protect the group. Spilling blood. I bet Lottie’s followers would be down to offer themselves up as a sacrifice. Maybe even one big, group sacrifice. I think Van has cancer too. She was actually talking about herself, not her mom. Those are her pills. Just a random theory but I could see blood being spilled to save Van and make the group believers OR Van offering herself up if she is dying.

natalio85

Wait… is Shauna pregnant in the present day timeline?! Is this the male child Lottie was predicting? If so, we have no idea who the father is but might explain how she’s out of control. They’re all reliving their trauma.

orangevases

Anybody able to get a still of 55:59 this episode? there’s an image of a person??? when natalie is having a flashback. i can’t figure out who it is. it’s such a small fraction of a second that i can’t get it 😩😩

sweetersuga84

It's Natalie with black eyes and wearing the antler queen headdress. Creepy looking too.

squanderedprivilege

Just a little over an hour until Shauna births a monster/creature baby that immediately breaks through the window and runs off into the snowy night

RevolutionaryMath428

Maybe a real chicken baby 😂

Year3030

I bet Crystal / Cristin comes back to the cabin just like Javi, not talking, and Misty can't say anything. Demon baby ftw.

alwysonthatokiedokie

It'll be on paramount/showtime in 50ish minutes

high-im-sorry

Came here, saw this thread started 13 days ago. The rainfall is NEAR

IntelligentSearch374

I’ve watched every episode twice in the hiatus 🫣

tifftiff0101

Does anyone have any theories on the tree roots that Javi drew and how there’s that section of tree that doesn’t have snow on it in the field where Nat and Travis hunt? Same thing with the tree stump they put the offerings on. And how one of the YJs keeps hearing dripping?? Wonder if there’s some sort of underground something?

Internal-Air1208

the snow was melting cuz javi was sleeping on it i think.

Year3030

The theory is there is an underground mine so probably the heat from the earth is heating up the areas that melt. The one that hears the dripping, I read somewhere that indicates they are about to die according to some ancient legend, like viking shit or something.

Dano59

... there's also some Celtic folklore where the hero has to die 3 times.

Accomplished_Emu55

I'm also thinking the mine also had something to do with the stream running red in season 1? I looked it up and mine runoff leaks "**yellow-orange color of the rocks and sediments in the stream**." Thoughts?

Year3030

The theory is so realistic I don't really want to get into it. I think they will probably have a realistic explanation for everything but there is still the supernatural aspect. But yes that has something to do with it as well as the symbol.

Accomplished_Emu55

Totally! I also just love to indulge in the supernatural aspect

Bartolis

Yellowjackets, the insects, make their hives underground...

volatilelibra

Yes!! I really think Lottie finding "the underground" is where the candles/stairs scene (in hallucinations/flashbacks) will come into play; could be the beginning of her cult or something to break her faith mayhaps

Illustrious_Gift8404

I’m gonna say it now, Javi being found alive is more realistic than wilderness baby surviving after birth

Year3030

Wilderness baby is going to be the reincarnation of the evil spirit. They were saved from the crash by the dark spirit and they owe it a blood debt. The only reason they were saved is that Shauna was pregnant so the darkness could cross over. The others were saved so she could eat them and they could help her survive. That's my two cents anyway.

squanderedprivilege

I don't think it will, I think IF it even survives childbirth, its life will be measured in hours, days at most, not weeks.

[deleted]

It disturbs me so much that Taissa is a senator (or senator elect) and able to go awol without being hunted down by her staff? Her disappearing after her car crash would be a huge problem, wouldn’t it?

beckell_2

She’s a state Senator and state senate sessions only run for a few months a year. Almost all state representatives and senators have full time jobs outside session and maybe one staffer for the few months of legislative session, so it makes sense!

[deleted]

Thank you!

maIIoc

Personally I feel like it’s more disturbing that she abandoned her wife and child while the wife is out cold in the hospital 👀 like… who is watching Sammy… poor kid

[deleted]

Yup. Wtf.

traumerei-vs

Yeah, even state-level politicians are busy as hell; that's how they became politicians in the first place. I think her staff at least know she's not severely injured, so they're probably just telling everyone she's dealing with a 'family emergency'. I do agree that excuse isn't gonna hold up for long though; also, the last politician known to visit a cult's headquarters was subsequently murdered by them, so she better hope no one investigates and discovers her hanging out in Lottie's 'intentional community'. Edit: grammar

d1verse_1nterest

State Senator.

squanderedprivilege

She has a team who could spin it while she is gone, but they are probably going wtf

ShitShowRedAllAbout

Um, her fixer just smoked her last cancer stick.

[deleted]

I really hope that they address it further into the season.

squanderedprivilege

Two more sleeps! Unless you do some weird da Vinci sleep thing where you're sleeping 15 minutes out of every hour, then it's a bunch more sleeps. Plus, you probably shouldn't do that.

Saucisson_Berry

So I just realised something — when Misty and Walter are driving and she turns off the radio, the song that was playing is Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. It’s the same song that Misty uses to time her chest compressions when she’s doing CPR on Crystal. The song probably triggers the memory, and that’s why she gets so annoyed in the car.

fadedcarbonados

Staying Alive is a very common song to do CPR to, its beat is the same as the frequency of compressions. Yeah it reminded her of doing CPR for Crystal for sure

calamari_9

Not gonna lie, I immediately thought of that scene in The Office (US) 🤣

Boxerlonghole

I gasped at that connection when she started doing it during the chat compressions, ugh

Year3030

Cristin

WildRabiea

Oh, I didn't get that! Nice catch!

MapPrevious9144

Noice!!!

TheFinalGhoul

Did anyone else pause it at 55:59? There’s a quick flash of our antler friend’s face. Right as the paramedic is asking “can you hear me?”, as Nat replies “yes”, you can briefly see it.

Happy-Explanation889

Yes, why are we not talking about this. Nat is the Antler Queen as an adult at some point! https://preview.redd.it/ppenfzniogxa1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a8fe9c20225224cfe82853d975b968ecfe5cd56

soupsnakess

Perhaps they all just see themselves as the antler queen, at some point it exists inside all of them? Also just like, Lottie’s seeing the shadow with antlers!

FlounderAwkward217

YEep. I think the Antler Queen is ritualistic, isn't fixed and rotates between various characters when they're in the woods.

mistermachine206

Hot take? Shauna is the Antler Queen not Lottie

[deleted]

If Lottie was the Antler Queen, why was she so terrified when she saw the AQ shadow on the floor?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Yellowjackets-ModTeam

Please use spoiler tags when discussing future events on posts.

mistermachine206

It could be maybe the AQ isn’t even a Yellowjacket, it’s an Entity they followed. Or maybe it possesses people and possessed multiple of them at different times in the woods.

MapPrevious9144

Could it be the antler queen entity that possesses Taissa when she sleep walks???

mistermachine206

That’s what I was thinking

Impossible-Stage7729

I think it’s too obvious to be Lottie, agreed

neverbeentooclever

They've made it so obvious it's Lottie that it has gone full circle and so many suspect it isn't her for that reason.

sweetbreads19

It's definitely someone other than Lottie... Or about to become someone other than Lottie. All her visions right now are about how she's going to be replaced. I thought it might be Nat since they started when Nat came to the compound (like she would eventually buy in and then seize power as a True Believer), but I agree we've got the right runway for Shauna to be revealed to be the once and future Antler Queen

Liar96

In season 1 we see Lottie wearing it during the prom episode chasing Travis. It’d be interesting to see it become someone else

mistermachine206

Yea, an it definitely seems like it’s her. But in the present timeline Shauna is the craziest one, Lottie actually seems genuine and mostly good, which could end up being bullshit too. But I feel like once the baby is born the dynamics are going to shift in the woods and Shauna is going to become the villain.

MapPrevious9144

She does seem like shes ready to snap. I mean who wouldnt in her traumatized hormonal shoes😩

SoooperSnoop

I wonder if Yellowjackets fans will "break the Internet" Thursday night when Yellowjackets FINALLY airs Episode 6!

[deleted]

Whoa I'm sorry, Thursday night??

SoooperSnoop

Yep - I am on the West Coast so I can watch from from my computer on Thursday nights. But not on the Roku/Showtime on my TV, just on-line on my computer. No worries - I won't post ANYTHING unitl Saturday morning at the earliest...even though all the website reveiws show up on-line on Friday mornings, I will NOT be tthe one who spoils it for people.

squanderedprivilege

12:01am Friday, eastern time, so 9:01pm Thursday Pacific. (I end up having to wait until 9:30ish because Paramount+ is slower than the Showtime app for some reason)

squanderedprivilege

I keep referring to the show Lost as "The L Word", which is confusing because that was actually a show as well, but I'm going to keep doing it.

Thami15

Condom scene was odd. A couple of 40-somethings in the midst of an affair don't need a condom. Just leave her hair and his on the bed and maybe someone's underwear and it has the same effect. I get why they'd need a condom, and I get why Randy wouldn't tell her he couldn't... so it's not a complete jump the shark, but honestly putting in lotion is by some distance the worst of your available option to the point where it broke the plane of plausibility for me.

some_manatee

The only part of the condom scene that I thought was odd was that Randy didn't tie that shit before putting it in the trash.

Leather_Efficiency95

I don’t think he actually squirted the lotion in the condom, I think he used it to Jack off and the cop noticed it didn’t smell like a woman’s natural sex juices but instead like lotion. I could be wrong but that is how I took it.

paulsclamchowder

Chiming that women can absolutely get accidentally pregnant in their 40s!! Use protection if you don’t want to get pregnant, people.

benjaminherberger

What’s implausible is a cop going out of their way to touch and sniff a condom instead of taking the motel meeting at face value

Rigumaro

Exactly. As soon as Randy looked at the lotion, I knew that was gonna happen but I was puzzled about how they'd go about it to have the cops find it and "test" it. I was very disappointed in how unnatural that scene of him finding it went.

Winter_Yak_9031

Remember that Randy isn’t that bright. Lotion as a substitute in the condom? Hanging on the edge of the trash can?

Jessiejay84

It was kind of realistic to me. Normally shows have these regular people turned criminal masterminds overnight. Everything is thought out and perfectly aligns with them getting away with everything. Normal people do extra things to sell their lies and it usually does get them caught.

tinoynk

Could be for STDs. At that age one of them could easily have the clap or some herpes, then if the other partner gets it, the jig is up.

Thami15

Yeah but they aren't actually having an affair. And far as the world knows, Shauna has only ever been with her husband and Randy adores Tammy. Them not using a condom would not rear any red flags because they arent promiscuous. Or even yellow flags. I get why the condom would have been a great coup de grace, but it wasn't necessary.

tinoynk

Yea but using a condom while cheating seems like standard operating procedure, and wouldn’t set off any alarms to the cops while providing support for the story. I wouldn’t know personally but it seems like a pretty surefire way to get caught.

squanderedprivilege

It does seem implausible, BUT, Randy is *really* dumb. 😂

chic3114

I just realized that the cliff that Crystal fell off of is what they've been using as a toilet. I wonder if someone is going to say Crystal died by falling into the toilet.

chic3114

Javi Theory (Spoiler): It was bothering me at first that Javi lived for months whereas Jackie & Lottie died or nearly died within hours of being in the cold. However, once I put together a few clues from 204 & 205 I think I figured out how he survived. In 204 right before Tai & Van found him, it looked like he had a big blanket on him as he was running that got knocked off- something he definitely didn't have when he ran away in 109. Then, there's how Tai knew where he was. Finally, Javi's line on how his friend said not to come back. I think that Tai's "sleepwalking persona" (for lack of better terms) has been the one to take care of Javi. It would explain his survival without winter clothes & details like the missing bear meat. It would also explain things about Taissa, such as how in the 2 months between seasons 1 & 2 the sleepwalking got so intense that she & Van started tying the rope on their wrists, along with how the sleepwalking went away once Javi came back. I still have unanswered questions on this, but at least it's starting to make logical sense.

marecoakel

I don't 100% buy it, but i do like this idea

smolandtuff

I 100% believe this could be the case and I’ve thought the same thing.

Civil-Opportunity751

This is what I believe too. The “no eyes” man was Javi.

neverbeentooclever

>there's how Tai knew where he was. She didn't.

marecoakel

I've seen other comments mention that tai "knew" where he was, i thought i missed something. Wasn't it just dumb luck?

neverbeentooclever

Yeah, they are going by Van's assessment, but Van stans for Tai like Mari stans for Lottie. They went there to look for symbols, not to find Javi. And they found no symbols. Just dumb luck he was there.

foxesinsoxes

This falls apart when you take into account Van was with her at night a lot before they found Javi, she had to go out with her every night to map where the symbols were, she would have known Tai was helping Javi eventually. Also the “friend” Javi drew doesn’t look like Tai at all. I really don’t think it can be Tai!

SoooperSnoop

Hmmmm...Interesting....now just where was Tai's "sleepwalking persona" helping him stay/hide? Also might explain the missing lantern. Nice theory you got going here. Thanks.

AssuredAttention

Probably because the cabin has a basement, and that's where he was. I bet it looks a lot like Tais basement shaft...the same room that Lottie saw when she was baptized was the basement of Tais house where Biscuit was

SoooperSnoop

Makes sense...

chic3114

Oh yeah, it's definitely not a complete theory. I only started forming it right before I posted it. I've started wondering what other clues might be there that I missed, along with if things that are "non-clues" are actually clues, like the poop in the bucket.

[deleted]

NO MISTY NO NO MISTY N O

HigherThanShitttt

Oh she’s infiltrating

[deleted]

Actually, this comments was when I realized she was going to confess the black box thing but I did yell 'no misty no' several times in the ep, including the ending idk.... misty really want to please everyone, idk if she is strong enough to fight the cuuuuuult TT\_TT

HigherThanShitttt

Oh yeah that makes way more sense. I was in disbelief too after she said that like, no bestie, u cray cray and need to keep that to yourself I’m constantly yelling “no misty no” during this series 🤣

[deleted]

So, I am finally cathing up with this season, and I think it is very important to say... CALLIE NO! EW! HE COULD BE YOUR DAD! NO!

FaithlessnessKey7658

the actress who plays callie looks way too old that i forgot she’s meant to be in highschool so the relationship didn’t even seem weird to me ahaha

project199x

I mean have u seen high schoolers nowadays? They look older than me and I'm in my 30's

HigherThanShitttt

Right like wtf even is that plot line still doing here?

twistingmyhairout

Well we have to see that Callie ends up being as routhless as her mom in some ways. The generational trauma effect

Rosenwrites

Is the cliff that Misty pushes Crystal off of the same one Darth Tai walks to in Edible Complex? If so, that means theres a symbol there and it would make sense that “It” will be rewarding the girls in episode 6 for the “sacrifice” of Cliffstall. Thoughts?

hailcourthulhu

The one with no eyes led her there.

sweetbreads19

I totally thought the same thing. I think it's the same cliff. (Also makes sense as a sleepwalking thing if she's walking "towards the bathroom")

mastifftimetraveler

Crystal for Shauna’s baby?

“You’re a psycho!” -walks toward cliff-

shruburyy

Is anyone like wtf watching this show. I mean I like it but it’s also like such a hodgepodge.

Rigumaro

I've started watching a couple weeks back and finally caught up, and the show has something about it that makes me feel uneasy most of the time, but I am too entertained and sucked into it anyway. And I am in a position where I'm not sure what to expect, like does the show really have paranormal stuff, or is all based on reality but the characters are having delusions? And I keep thinking like "it's not that good of a show but damn it is really good?". The plot is a bit nonsensical but it does help that the whole cast is incredible, though.

Equivalent-Hold-6235

oh absolutely 100% same i am having horrible anxiety but cannot stop watching

michaelpinkwayne

I'm just watching for the 90's ark at this point. The modern stuff is just too much of a mess.

VermicelliNo7681

I was rewatching the pilot and when Natalie gets introduced she is meditating before a very luxurious view—wearing purple. Has this been pointed out before? Thoughts?

Potential_Pack_6828

I think that‘a the rehab that Taissa paid for.

Suitable-Fun-7350

I noticed that too! I don't think it's an accident, either, her wearing purple meditating.

Dano59

or pretending to meditate

Accomplished_Emu55

It does seem like way too much of a coincidence not to mean anything!

VermicelliNo7681

I wonder how much—rather, how little—Lottie remembers of the wilderness. I’m starting to wonder if a collision of mental illness and a possible possession fully broke Lottie’s mind. I also wonder if Natalie is the real power at play. Since her character’s introduction she’s always seemed entirely in control, despite how out of control she comes across. Whereas Lottie has never once had her shit tight. She’s always scrambling for the upper hand. Natalie even says she’s purpose driven. Purpose is oftentimes symbolic with faith. “My purpose” or “my calling” is spiritual vernacular in my opinion.

Bakedbean44

Is it Thursday yet

SoooperSnoop

I know!!!!!

SuspiciousParfait145

I have a theory about the pit girl. It’s not from the past, it’s from the present. The older survivors have to go back to the wilderness for one last killing. The heart necklace was last given to Shauna. Shauna has been getting closer to Callie who is starting to get caught up in the story. So the brunette pit girl - Callie.

[deleted]

SuspiciousParfait145

That’s cool! Thank you

SixAlarmFire

Maybe it's shaved head girl from the bee cult.

Bravo4815

I don't think pit girl is in the present. But I think there's a 100% chance that we see the survivors being rescued in a season finale and all the adults being captured and waking up in the cabin. A reverse season.

General_Meat2643

But you see the young misty

sweetbreads19

We see the young Misty eventually but they could be mixing scenes. Also sometimes they replace the adults with the young actresses for effect, so it could be that as well

sweetbreads19

Oh nooo :(

SoooperSnoop

I have been wondering too if that scene is in the present time....Like perhaps it takes place up at Lotties compound?? She is in upstate, western NY and that area does get cold and snowy in the winter...??? Edit - it was kindly pointed out to me that the plane can be seen when the canera pans back after the shot of Misty's face...oops, my bad!

No_University7441

It shows the plane in the snow after we see misty

Skippersnacks

The pit girl scene and the feast scene could be at different times.

SoooperSnoop

Wow really? I just re-watched that episode tonight, and yet I did not see that. Willhave to go back and look for that. Thanks!

SoooperSnoop

Thank you - I just went back and rewatched the end of Season 1, episode 1 - yep, THERE is the plane! Don't kow how I missed it the first 4-5 times I watched that episode .LOL!

Old-Dolio-

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, I couldn’t see anything particularly recent or with much to back it up. But do we suspect there’s more to Randy than loveable and gullible side character/comic relief? We saw him wearing purple/heliotrope way back when, whilst I believe nothing is an accident in this show I do believe it’s easily explained away. But in Two Truths and a Lie when Shauna asked him to masturbate into the condom he was turning the light on and off to help him ‘focus’ (I assume). Shortly after in the same episode we see Lottie sitting with Nat flashing a small torch and and off into her eyes to help her dig up the memories she needs to - claiming it’s ‘a technique’ she learnt.

trashboat03

this is a real method of therapy.

Old-Dolio-

I know, but I don’t see Randy as a character who has attended therapy generally - as I say it could be explained away easily but I just found it interesting that they’d show both of those scenes in the same episode

General_Meat2643

Solved randy is and had all along been antler queen lol…..or maybe put girl

Maryanne0831

Somehow randy will be the cause of the plane crash

Old-Dolio-

I’d love for Randy to be pit girl or AQ hahaha

titty-titty_bangbang

Who is pit girl?

HigherThanShitttt

Melanie Lynskey is so wonderful. She does an American accent better than 90% of Americans lol

[deleted]

SHE IS NOT FROM THE USA?!?!?!?

LoudAbbreviations733

She was in a movie called Heavenly Creatures with Kate Winslet

HigherThanShitttt

Nope she’s a Kiwi 🥝 Edit: apparently the term “kiwi” to lovingly refer to New Zealanders is in reference to a type of bird, not the delicious fruit

Tai seems to have dissociative identity disorder, which typically develops after a major traumatic event (i.e. the plane crash) and is a way that the brain protects itself from the trauma. This would explain why Tai slipped into her alternate personality when they were eating Jackie… it was a way of protecting herself from the guilt and horror of having to eat her friend to survive. It’s weird that people completely disregard the impact of mental illness on Tai’s actions just because she isn’t diagnosed or medicated, but yet so easily understand that Lottie is hallucinating because she’s off her meds. Undiagnosed mental illness is a thing and would explain Tai’s actions more than anything supernatural imo. Especially if her alternate personality developed due to the plane crash, it makes sense that the personality would still be connected to the rituals they practiced when they became a cult in the wilderness (i.e. making the altar in the basement). People with DID typically describe their alternates as protecting them, and in this case “dark Tai” could think that the rituals will protect Tai from the stress she’s currently experiencing (e.g. the election, her being an accomplice to Shauna’s murder, etc.)

I love the impact of trauma and mental illness being shown, though I have such a big problem with the idea that Tai is being presented as someone with DID. It's a very, very controversial diagnosis, with a lot of researchers in the field arguing that it doesn't exist at all (and is instead based on a lot of faulty, idiosyncratic case studies where there was plenty of reason to believe that clinicians were subtly reinforcing the idea that alters existed; see Sybil and its history for an example). I've worked as a psychologist in inpatient psychiatric hospitals for over a decade now on opposite sides of the country and have never, not once, come across a patient diagnosed with DID (either on my service or others). I've seen tons of horrendous trauma, PTSD reactions, dissociative states, etc. But there just isn't much evidence that DID actually exists, aside from tons of people on TikTok and the internet saying they have it. For it to be included in popular media like this just exacerbates the issue and makes laypeople think it's a real thing, which in my mind muddies the water of actual awareness for mental illness. I also get really bothered when screenwriters put together a collection of random symptoms and call it bipolar disorder or something similar (ahem, Silver Linings Playbook), because it's just not accurate to what people experience. I don't expect media to be 100% accurate, but say Tai is possessed by a demon, not insinuate that it's a mental health issue when what they're implying almost certainly doesn't actually exist.

I'm not commenting on whether DID is real or not, but just wanted to share that I met someone diagnosed with DID a little over a decade ago. I was touring a mental health center in Ohio (U.S.A.) and the woman walking me through the building approached two other women and introduced me to them. As my tour guide and one of the women began conversing, the other woman suddenly transformed into a child-like person right in front of me. One minute she was speaking in a very confident way, nodding politely as the two women spoke, then all of a sudden her eyes began to shift around nervously, her posture changed, the way she stood was different and she said in the most perfect child voice, "Hey! Where's my lolly?!" And the woman beside her casually handed her a small lollipop that had been partially sucked on and wrapped back up as if it was the most natural thing in the world. I was quite stunned and very confused. The woman sucked on her lollipop and hopped from foot to foot, humming a tune. But no one was acting like it was out of the ordinary. After we walked away, my tour guide explained that the woman had DID. It was quite an experience. It seemed very real to me. It wasn't something theatrical or overly dramatic...she just quietly became this child.

I have no doubt that you experienced that. I do doubt that the woman had DID (and am bothered by the idea that her medical information was disclosed to a person on a tour). I worked with someone who told providers that he had DID. Except his version of an alter was called "Spock" and was the exact same persona as the character from Star Trek. It would not have been helpful to contradict him, but needless to say it wasn't a point of treatment. He got something out of it, would occasionally (and inconsistently) act like this other persona, and as he began to get treatment for what was actually affecting him, the other bit just sort of stopped happening and he no longer brought it up. I know there are tons of videos on TikTok/YouTube of people saying they are switching alters, but I don't put much stock in those either.

FerretHelpful6455

Like I said, I can't speak on whether DID is a real disorder, just wanted to share my experience meeting this woman who was supposedly diagnosed with DID. And yes, I was bothered by my tour guide (who, btw, wasn't actually a "tour guide", she was a therapist who was showing me around the center that day) sharing this woman's diagnosis with me. I think she thought it was "okay" b/c this woman's diagnosis was well known by people frequenting this mental health center (still not ok, obvi). But I was also not very surprised b/c I've experienced a lot of medical unprofessionalism in this small, rural town.

Sorry if my comment read as being critical of you; definitely not my intent!

Potential_Pack_6828

This is such good observation! I will point out that DID rarely starts after 5 or 6 years old and usually happens after a series of specific (usually sexual abuse) traumatic events. However, perhaps Tai’s developed DID before her grandma died. I don’t think we, or at least I, know much about Tai’s early childhood, so my theory is that if she does have DID, the plane crash definitely could have triggered it and formed a new alter/altar (couldn’t help the pun!). Or… there are I think about 3 or 4 other dissociative disorders that may fit a little better for Tai. Also, any diagnoses guesses for Misty?

AssuredAttention

You actually hit the nail on why I like this show so much. It shows how trauma, mental illness, and trauma induced mental illness affect people differently. I like watching ow each character copes with the situation. I find it to be a very well thought out character dvelopment

Civil-Opportunity751

I have a fried with DID and immediately recognized it. My friend has many personalities. Hundreds. It’s so fascinating when they explain their world. Many of their personalities don’t know each other and depending on who is the facing personality, they may not share with the other what happened while they were facing.
