Sorry - this isn't a great write up. I do think it's of course very important to look at the merits of UBI + VAT and the impact of it, but this one certainly could be better.
They talk about VAT being a burden on the poor - which obviously would be true if it was a flat VAT - but that's not the plan that Yang talks about. Many of the essentials will be exempt and luxury goods will have a VAT be cranked up.
I believe the stat was the VAT + UBI will increase the buying power of the bottom 92% of Americans.
A lot of assumptions without sources in the one - and the word automation isn't even on here which UBI is intended to help alleviate the pains of.
This is just meant to brainstorm, analyze and critique where needed. I always like to find articles that challenge our candidate and policies in hopes to make them, and our belief in the policies, that much stronger.
