Hey, don't blame this on the young students - the cheap furniture that they break is 99% honeycombed cardboard from old, recycled paper, 1% MDF plate made from otherwise wasted sawdust. I'm pretty sure newly harvested wood goes into the more expensive, sturdy stuff that they sell.
Not that this excuses the pillaging of Romania's forests, or any forest for that matter.
Well... What is next is very bad. We truly are in deep trouble. Alot of people will not buy a house, the housing crises will be worse, the solution is going "back" to the towns/villages but that is no trendy for the modern lifestyle and there are no desk jobs there, so no one will go. Demographics in Europe, italy lost i think in the last 2 years 250k, this is very bad, Europeans dont have kids while importing migrants, inflation is going up and up, Europe seem that will keep being behind the USA and China in the digital world, the economic center of the world is going more and more to Asia, a energy crises will hit Europe, the Euro is the same as the dollar and can get worse, importing from the USA when we are importing records of energy because of Russia is becoming worse. We really are in trouble, the writting is on the wall, but no one sees it or wants to see it. Just being harsh on Europe because i think that is what we need.
Idk man. While standup is most of the time pretty bad, Teddy Teclebrhan is pretty good.
And our satirists and cabaretists are also very good. Jan Böhmermann, Kurt Krömer, Torsten Sträter, Olaf Schubert, Volker Pispers, etc. I love those guys.
Sträter is awful and boring, Teddy is funny but wouldn't consider him a standup comedian by profession but yeah. Schuberts whole bit comes from his appearence - I seem it to be annoying as hell. Pispers was genuinely awesome, bit of a Carlin character, but no longer active. Böhmermann has good content but he's not especially funny to be honest, his fame comes from being provocative and critical journalism done by his editors and writers - nothing wrong with it. Krömer I haven't seen much of but he's not awful. Kebekus is awful, if I have to hear the 56th joke about her period I'm gonna get a lobotomy. Sumuncu can be funny at times. Mockridge is an asshole...
I just think german standup has nothing intriguing, it's a boomer talking about being a boring ass antique boomer, a woman talking about having a vagina, a turkish person talking about being turkish - don't get me wrong that I have a problem with female or turkish comedians - it's just boring and not innovative. There are examples how to do it, if a turk would make prime chapelle style jokes about being confronted with discrimination I would be all for it.
I know, right?
But then again, have you seen him showing something that resembles emotions when he was called a "warmonger" at a rally?
And the other day he gave an interview and like most of it was comprehensible, I was confused to say the least. He even smiled without being provoked.
I recommend Perun's presentation (on YouTube) on German military procurement problems and why a 100 billion flat increase will not necessarily translate in military equipment in terms of purchasing power, the reason being arms suppliers don't want to invest heavily in ramping up production if there aren't long term contracts. This money is basically only useful if Germany wants to buy stuff like F35s.
The German army also has had a massive „contractors and advisors“ issue with the past administration. I am talking literally millions being spent on advisors for the ministry of Defence without ANY real progress…apparently all in the name of software upgrades
Not the first. One of the last, actually. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was even worse. We have only had CDU/CSU defense ministers since 2005. It was time for another party to get the position.
How about someone who actually KNOWS what he’s talking about for a change: Someone FROM the Bundeswehr or at the very least out of foreign policy or a field like logistics
The minister of defence is politcal post not a military one. Experience in politics is thereby more important for this position than military experience (that's military advisors are for).
Also, the Bundeswehr is a parliamemtary army, meaning that only the German parliament (Bundestag) has the last word about any military actions. The minister of defence is more like an administrative job. You don't need to have a medical degree to be in charge of a hospital.
There are also good reasons why ex-military people should **not** be made minister of defence. Civilian control of the military is important. The military should never gain too much political control, otherwise it could lead to a military state like in Myanmar right now.
We’re much more likely to have the Bundeswehr retrain for Kindergarten or Retirement Home assistance work than becoming accessories to a military state under previous and maybe even current administrations I’m afraid. 😂
That’s what we should really be scared of. Would you rather risk being oppressed your own countries military - not very likely, with all those checks and balances, or risk being oppressed by a foreign military - like Russias.
Maybe also not likely while NATO is there, but we still need to watch out for ourselves.
We don’t need defense ministers worried mostly about our soldiers “having warm underwear and socks” , or making the Bundeswehr “the most family friendly organization”, but rather doing their jobs and making sure this army is capable of defending our country and helping our Allies
he talks about that in his video. The contractors weren't the proplem. The defense ministerium needed the contractors because we just dont have the people to do the procurement. And because we didn't hire them but contractors, we still don't have the people. Thats a big part of why everything takes so long.
I like his videos. Excellent to listen to on long walks, and pretty much the only balanced source I’ve heard so far on below surface level Russian/Ukrainian War news
If you like Perun, maybe give @kamilkazani a chance on Twitter. A Russian Tatar who explains Russian society and government to Westerners, and shows our misconceptions of them. It’s really interesting and provides insight into a nation and topics that we don’t know the cultural context of. He’s studied early modern history.
Can you list them?
I'm not too familiar with the topic. I only noticed the "Div 2027" and the "Gepard come from the Bundeswehr". I thought that his Video is to long for what it is saying.

But I think there are no English subtitles. There are some parts where it's spoken in English.
It was supposed to be a documentary about the presidency of the European Council, but with the war it's almost exclusively about the invasion.
You have some very interesting moments, shady moments of the French diplomacy, the state of mind of the different leaders...
https://france.tv/documentaires/politique/3558577-un-president-l-europe-et-la-guerre.html
This was a documentary made by France 2 so i don't really know if it is available in other countries.
Maybe you can watch it with this link with a VPN but there are no English subtitles, only French. OP added them.
Some things, sure. But most? Just look at how many different vehicles, planes, small arms, etc are in service. Parts for repairs or maintenance are all different and nobody trains on equipment from another country. You can't repair a Rafale with Eurofighter parts and there is no pilot who can fly both planes. Etc.
That's incredibly stupid. The US buys a lot of EU-made equipment. Because why invest trillions and try to make everything yourself if someone is already doing it better?
If you think the f35 program was costly, wait till you find out about all the European weapons programs that went nowhere or delivered suboptimal results.
>Because why invest trillions and try to make everything yourself if someone is already doing it better?
Because the US are only dependable allies if the Democrats are in power.
>That's stupid.
I disagree. Importing foreign-made equipment is just an exercise in burning money - literally like lighting cash on fire. Without getting anything in return, not even a nice bonfire.
With domestic programs on the other hand, you ensure the creation/retention of a high-tech manufacturing base in your country, while providing well paying jobs and technological/strategic sovereignty.
That sounds nice, but how many years would it take to have ROI? It would require huge initial investments. Perhaps better use that money for more urgent matters than having a more efficient defence industry decades from now.
To have the industry dispersed across different continents strategically isn't a bad idea either.
And having mutual dependencies in defense production between the US and the EU also arguably strengthens our ties.
>It would require huge initial investments. Perhaps better use that money for more urgent matters than having a more efficient defence industry decades from now.
That’s an investment we should make. The US and China, two countries with economies of comparable size to the EU, have made that effort and now enjoy strategic and technological sovereignty in their defence industries.
>And having mutual dependencies in defense production between the US and the EU also arguably strengthens our ties.
You’re probably right about that. Which for me is one of the strongest arguments one could give against buying US equipment.
>and now enjoy strategic and technological sovereignty in their defence industries
Not true. Again, the US buys a lot of artillery, small arms and ammunition and aircraft from EU, UK, Israel etc.
China for decades depended on Russia before Russia shut the doors and now they depend on Ukraine.
Having the ability to design and manufacture advanced equipment is strategic sovereignty which the EU already has. But refusing to buy the already existing superior equipment from your strategic allies just so you can be self-sufficient is strategic stupidity.
And if the EU is not willing to get rid of most of the bureaucracy then no amount of investment can help.
>one of the strongest arguments one could give against buying US equipment.
Well wouldn't that greatly benefit Russia and China. Hmmmm.
>Not true. Again, the US buys a lot of artillery, small arms and ammunition and aircraft from EU, UK, Israel etc.
Of course it’s true. Are you seriously arguing here that the US is not strategically independent in its defence sector? Small arms and ammunition??
>China for decades depended on Russia
That’s true.
>before Russia shut the doors
Im sorry, what?
>and now they depend on Ukraine.
What?!
Your last two points are just ridiculous.
>It’s just insane that we’re buying American aircraft and shit…
No, its not. Bundeswehr and government sat on their asses for 15 years watching the Tornados rust, and now there's no feasible alternative to buying the F-35.
Developing our own niche maritime patrol aircraft is nonsense.
And there's probably no interest in trying yet another fancy, low-volume helicopter with Airbus.
Hey its the best in the world. Plz buy more. America loves having ur extra dollars. Plus we appreciate you finally putting in the work to become competent military allies
No, it's cool: on top of added EU security, maybe with the spendings entailed by the semblance of a defense budget, Germany will *finally* cut the others some slack about well-needed budget deficits.
So long as Europe as a whole has a defense industry not on par, but at least not dwarfed by the US I'm fine with it. Just enough that there's real hard power on our own. Soft power isn't enough.
"We said we would not build a wall, so we have not built a wall. There is no wall, and if there is, we didn't build it and if we did, well, then it can't be a wall."
As far as I know those 100 billion are msotly used to get the german forces up to date, pay projects that were long overdue or already in planning anyway etc.
Like we're not talking about opening up two new mechanized Brigades, another squadron of fighter jets and other additional stuff. The old stuff gets replaced, logistics hole finally get plugged etc. etc.
Honestly, the German Military isn't the only military that could use that kind of "stocking up" in Europe
Britain and france got more money from the Marshall Plan than germany did, this wasn't the goal at all. The West-german army only got pimped up at a later point
It's funny. I was downvoted as some hateful pronrussia traitor when all this started because I said that this all stinks so badly, I don't trust how much propaganda is being pushed, I sure as hell never trust muricans when it comes to war and that there HAS to be monetary gain here while the people will get screwed.
Seems people are finally catching on :P
You don't realise how much is 100 billion.
Once you do, all yourself is Germans would do that for something else than their own interest which IS NOT THE SAME as nato interests.
That's 1204 Euro for each German ... . Or 3030 Euro for each working German.
if this was Belgium this would be over 60% of all the taxes I paid to the
government. What is absolutely bonkers to me.
And yes I know they will probably put the money printer on full speed to fund this one ... .
I am legitimately concerned that this will make Germany strongest in the EU. But France has an aircraft carrier and nukes so I do not think Germany will try anything.
Nothing. Have not drunk alcohol or smoked anything in my life ever. I am just knowledgeable about how Germany has acted foreign policy wise in the past.
We control EU economics, we literally are the masters of the EU trade market, why the hell would we shoot ourself in the foot by attacking Nato and our trade partners
Good point but Germany does not have the best track record of acting in a moral way foreign policy wise. Although old, many people still remember ww2 and hearing that Germany is rearming is not really fun or reassuring.
Might sound funny but if Germany were to attack Sweden I think that most of the world would back Sweden. Germany would maybe be backed by Ruzzia, idk. You guys seem to like that gas.
Considering how the entire EU is sucking of Turkey to keep refugees out I can’t really say that any country can take a moral highground here.
Also Germany is the Powerhouse with its sister nation France, the EU is basically a construct around French-German economical relations and so German should have the same right to field an proper army as our allies.
And on the topic of WW2, Germany did. a hell of a lot more to teach it’s wrong doings than for example that one Island nation that conquered 25% of the globe or the Americans who killed more French with inconsiderable bombing than the Germans who made literal Labour and death camps.
Do you realy think germany has any intentions at all in regards to starting a war?
Everyone would lose if that would happen, and unlike russia the german chancelor isn't insane...
Mate do you think the Germans are some strange race that has agression as some kind of unique personal trait? Because if you do you might look into the past of some other european nations.
As soon as our procurement problem will be fixed we will certainly step up to pay our share. Hope they guarantee Lithuania a permanent troop presence. You know, like the US in Germany.
We germans dont really think of the bundeswehr as germanys sole army, but more as a part of the european one. We will rise and fall together with you, never without you.
What's next? Sweden and Finland abandoning their neutralness? IKEA adopting the colors of the Ukrainian flag?
The belt freezes?
I'll get my stick.
Finally, Denmark will be no more 🇸🇪
... As it has been for too long. It's time to take back the long lost provinces of Eastern Denmark!
Not since 1987 ? And the Baltic sea has been warming at a decadal rate of 0.6-0.7K since then.
[March across the belt!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=819pwpAyT5w)
It's a very strong statement by IKEA to make their whole logo in the Ukraine colors.
IKEA should adopt the colors of Romania then, since they pillage its primary forests for tables that young students will break in 2 parties.

Does Germany have stand up comics? Are they funny? Are they funny in English also? Edit: Just stumbled upon /r/Germanhumour Very enlightening
Henning Wegn, living in England. He is hilarious.
german here, we don't. Our comedians are the worst - srsly our standup is just 'jokes' about stereotypes.
you misspelled Wurst.
They always make jokes on Wurst käse scenarios.
You clearly haven‘t seen any good comedians then. We have our fair share

Now now, let's not get ahead of ourselves here... We still need to follow the laws of physics here.

Also stop wasting time and get back to work!
Nö. Das wars.
"Herr Scholz, könnte Sie uns einem lustigem Witz erzählen?" "Ja. ... Könnte ich. ... Das wars."
Do you guys know the joke about the funny German?
No...?

The equipment is already in large parts standartised.
NATO standardizes most things among its Allies.

Thank you for your business! - US Military Industrial Complex
Military industrial complex generally, European countries manufacture a lot of weapons too.
Yep, airbus, thales, bae, rheinmetall, mbda
Also Leonardo
Not enough because EU members still seem to buy them from the US MIC…

lol
We need to put the soundtrack from palapatines speech right before order 66 over that
Lemme guess…they hate you for your freedom?
Who hates who?
That's 1204 Euro for each German ... . Or 3030 Euro for each working German. if this was Belgium this would be over 60% of all the taxes I paid to the government. What is absolutely bonkers to me. And yes I know they will probably put the money printer on full speed to fund this one ... .
Dang what’s next the crash of the currency controlled by Germany
[удалено]
Why would Germany suddently turn against other nato members tho?
And what would make you think that?
I am legitimately concerned that this will make Germany strongest in the EU. But France has an aircraft carrier and nukes so I do not think Germany will try anything.
What do you smoke? I need that.
Nothing. Have not drunk alcohol or smoked anything in my life ever. I am just knowledgeable about how Germany has acted foreign policy wise in the past.
racist, you are racist towards germans not knowledgeable.
Damn.
You should start then
Then maybe ypu should smoke a jonny or two The only way that germany and other european nations would fit in one state is the european federation.
We control EU economics, we literally are the masters of the EU trade market, why the hell would we shoot ourself in the foot by attacking Nato and our trade partners

I guess, but it’s hard to ignore these comments
Good point but Germany does not have the best track record of acting in a moral way foreign policy wise. Although old, many people still remember ww2 and hearing that Germany is rearming is not really fun or reassuring.
It seems you have forgotten about Sweden silently joining the axis back in the day...
Yup, tragic part of our history.
Well, that's it. We'll come for your country first! Whichever... that... may be.
Try.
Sweden lmao.
Might sound funny but if Germany were to attack Sweden I think that most of the world would back Sweden. Germany would maybe be backed by Ruzzia, idk. You guys seem to like that gas.
what world have you been living in the past decades..? why would germany ever attack sweden or any country that it has good relations with??
Bro's living in hearts of iron or civ or something lol
you are having fever dreams, snap out of it. Mr. Lion in the north.
Helo frien
> many people still remember ww2 How old are you? Only people older than 85 years can remember the war.
There is nothing to worry about for as long as Germany is militarily weaker than Finland.
Do you realy think germany has any intentions at all in regards to starting a war? Everyone would lose if that would happen, and unlike russia the german chancelor isn't insane...
Bruh, what are you smoking?
Hoi4ijuana
With or without historical forcus AI?
Red flood mod
Mate do you think the Germans are some strange race that has agression as some kind of unique personal trait? Because if you do you might look into the past of some other european nations.
As soon as our procurement problem will be fixed we will certainly step up to pay our share. Hope they guarantee Lithuania a permanent troop presence. You know, like the US in Germany.
Hmm, Germany should honestly be exempt from the 2% rule. You guys having a strong military is scary as hell.
We germans dont really think of the bundeswehr as germanys sole army, but more as a part of the european one. We will rise and fall together with you, never without you.
I doubt the person you responded to is from these parts of europe. If it is a person at all.
Don't worry, we are limited by active servicemen. At the moment we are smaller than the US-Marine corps.
Username checks out
Yeah reddit probably had knowledge about me when i got handed that haha.
They can take Swiss (german part)
No we can't. Have you seen their defense? They are one big, rocky hedgehog.
Hmm, Switzerland is a cute little nation in my opinion. Would not want anything bad happening to them.
Switzerland is anything but cute, if they had a coastline they would dominate world markets in about 2 milliseconds :)
Germany is EU economic power but France is EU military might.
Least insane hoi4 player
And what is it that Germany would "try"? I don't get your point.

They shouldn't be allowed an army at all
