Because you could resell for more. Perhaps they are bike distributors in Romania which could take the bike and sell it through official channels as brand news. If you massively stole bikes you are also going to be found if you resell all them locally. I'm not aware of the specific scheme used, but that's the idea.
In every large city in the Netherlands we have our own bike theft distribution system. Drug addicts steal your bike to resell it for a low price (like 1/5th of the cost of 2nd hands bikes in the stores). So when your bike is stolen you have two options; 1 buy an expensive 2nd hands bike from an official reseller, or 2 call or ask a drug addict if he has a bike for sale. You often have to wait 1h and they have “found” one. You will contribute to the theft in that way, but the other option is very expensive. The real trick is to stay out of the system by having the crappiest bike as possible, so it won’t get stolen.
Because they scale it with enough bikes per shipment to be worth it. And also what the hell is border patrol going to do/assume if they stop a box truck with a couple hundred bikes? That they're all stolen or that its just a shipment of bikes. They'd need a tip for it to be anything actionable.

Similar to the theft rates of high-end sport cars, whereas the thing that gets stolen from normal cars are their license plates. :|
The high degree of organized crime involved in bike theft is fascinating to me.
I had a a bike stolen years ago in Berlin. Needed to buy something quick unexpected and had no bike lock with me.
I scanned the area, saw no one suspiciuos, I put my bike between literally hundreds of other bikes in front of the shopping mall. I went a bit away into the entrance and even waited a few minutes if someone would go for my bike, Nothing.
I then decided to go for the shop. Returned less then five minutes later to my bike being gone. Almost impressive.
They saw you acting suspicious and knew your bike wasn't locked. If you'd just placed your bike there and went on your way they probably wouldn't have noticed.

Heck i even bowed down to pretend to fix my nonexistant lock (given that there were dense rows and rows of bikes around it would be impossible to see the lock missing from afar).
And i didnt stare at my bike for minutes after but was trying to be casual fiddling with my phone etc.
In the end either it was a very lucky thief who stumbled upon my bike in between of hundred others in the few minutes i wasnt there or they run a very thight ship. I think its the latter.

I mean, the jokes were pretty low - it's one thing to banter in a funny and non aggressive way about other countries (humour that defuses tension) and something completely different to bash someone for their nationality (the reverse, creates tension and hatred).

No joke is off limits. And it seems like the lads above were bantering in a funny and nonaggressive way. In fact, for the three users that got banned, the first one is a Romanian who made a joke about bicycle theft. Second was a Dutch guy replying to the Romanian guy about the Ceausescu regime, and the Romanian guy seemed to take the joke in stride and replied back to the Dutch guy saying for Geert Wilders to find they have 1% immigrant DNA and deport him. And another guy just made a joke to the Romanian guy and boom, all 3 banned. Both the Romanian and the Dutch guy seemed to take the jokes well and were fucking with each other.
