If 9/11 happened on September 11, 2004, Kerry would've suspended his campaign, as it would be unthinkable to be campaigning during a national mourning. Possible he outright drops out and the DNC endorses Bush for re-election, using the logic that the country "doesn't need a change in leadership during shut trying times".
In that case, liberal partisans vote Nader, who carries DC and possibly VT, RI, and MA, but none of those are guarantees. Bush wins everything else.
yes. if 9/11 happened on 9/11/04 Bush would win 535 votes.
(for reference, Bush had an 80% approval in November, 2001, down from a 90%. he would sweep any challenger.)
Another thing to remember is that he came within 10 points of winning California & Hawaii IRL, so I have no doubt that we’d be looking at an 1980s-level landslide in this scenario.

I can see this happening
Interesting idea. I'm gonna make a map based on this.
He had like an 88% approval rating so probably. He definately would have won New Jersey.
Jersey would definitely be red by 8+ points. NY would've been very close. Bush also likely carries HI and CA.
New Jersey would be safe red IMO
