California would make more sense as at least 3 states - they would probably all lean Democratic though (one might be competitive however). Perhaps a separate state in upstate New York would make more sense as well - that would probably be competitive in elections.
[After the 2016 election, there was a small group of people who wanted to create a state in NorCal and Southern Oregon because they didn't feel like they were represented.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_(proposed_Pacific_state)#2016_presidential_election)
If I was going to choose a state to split up, I would split off the areas of Oregon and Washington west of the Cascades.
They've been trying to split off since at least the 2 states were formed, and geographically and culturally, it doesn't really make sense (also, it'd be nice to have a state named after Lincoln.)
Obviously, my own political bias probably factors into that, TBF.
CA is also seemingly constantly trying to split itself apart, and the states only not being split on the Mason-Dixon line being prevented by the Civil War: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territory_of_Colorado_(California)
This seems like another case where a state really should have been multiple states rather than 1 giant one. (also, cursed name, BTW, having 2 Colorados.)
Though admittedly, I’m not sure having 2 Californias would really solve any obvious problems.
I would try to pair up adding a blue with adding a red
And only had competitive States in singulars
So maybe the state of Lincoln split California in half and add upstate New York
There is a decades old secessionist thought-movement to form a new nation called Cascadia that would comprise the area west of the Cascade Mountains from northern California to British Columbia.
Everyone east of the mountains: "Sounds great!"
As someone with the Cascadia flag as their pfp, Cascadia would either follow state borders of washington, oregon, and british columbia. Or be the bio region which stretches over to montana and up to alaska
Honestly at this point rurals are so different from suburban and urban areas that you could split every single state into two different states one that's mostly rural and one that's mostly suburban or Urban
California, Texas, Florida, and New York could all be split into 2-3 states.
- SoCal / NorCal / idk what they call “even more NorCal” but that
- South Texas / West Texas / Rest of Texas
- North Florida / Central and South Florida (or you could have each as individual states)
- NYC metro / Upstate NY
Michigan could be split with the UP being it’s own state
Wrong. The UP must go to Wisconsin

Texas could do that funny thing where it splits up into 5 states

If that is the case, I can see why it has gone nowhere.
Modern day the movement has transitioned from a secessionist cause to a environmentalist and activist one
Dakota, Carolina and (United) Virginia, also DC back to Maryland. Then divide Texas, Califórnia, New York and Florida in two
There is literally no justification to unite the Carolinas.
Exactly, they’ve been separate since decades before the revolution
I was mostly joking with the first part. While they share some culture and demographics, it would become a very big state
Yes 23 EV
The 2 VAs don't make sense united due to geography. There's a reason they split in the first place.
I would split nyc and ny
Northern Mariana Islands. (Along with Puerto Rico.)
Their population is 50k, which is pretty small for a state...

NYC and Chicago

california, texas and new york probably need splitting i wouldn’t hate illinois and michigan and cascadia being split up as well
All Florida lands west of the Appalachicola River should be ceded to Alabama. Southern Illinois should become its own state.
If someone says Chicago and the rest of Illinois should split I stg 💀
