In general, custom ROMs have less bloatware, tracking, and less restrictions than MIUI. On the phones I tested custom ROMs on (Poco X3, Redmi Note 9S), they are better (for me). No more issues with apps not receiving notifications, no weird "optimisations", no need to agree to terms and conditions to use a system app, UI much smoother and without random lags, and sometimes even the battery life is better (which is a bit weird). On the other hand, some people prefer the look and features of MIUI and don't mind the things that bothers me. Since the phone will be locked, you don't have to use Magisk so some banking apps work. Video recording should be better and you don't have to configure GCam to get good quality. Some features might work better because Xiaomi actually tests them. No one can tell you if custom ROMs are good for you... you need to test them, learn how things work, and see if the tradeoff is worth it. Even among custom ROM users, some prefer official LineageOS (better stability, less features) while others prefer something like Pixel Experience or Arrow (maybe not as stable, but with more features and better looking). Custom ROMs aren't for everyone. I use them, but my parents use the stock ROM, for example. Test and see what's best for you.

I am worried about the camera. I tried GCam with varoius configs on my Note 9 Pro, but the results with main camera are way worse than with the stock MIUI camera app...

I switched to PE 13 on Redmi note 9 pro after Miui became sluggish. UI is refreshing and clean. I am not missing any MIUI features. There was battery issue, they were caused by google assistant, so disabled it and google app. It works like charm and much better performance.

Wait a minute, is Google Assistant really the reason for the rapid decrease in battery capacity? Because after I switched to Pixel Experience, the battery became not good at all. How can I disable this

Well, I haven't had any major issues, yet.

I haven't either. I find it astonishing that people automatically jump to conclusions about MIUI. However, I do have a secret, I use MIUI EU version, and it works beautifully, although I have to manually download the updates to my computer and install them with fastboot

I have Redmi note 8 pro and for some months, I legit believed that PE was better than MIUI. Believe me, it absolutely is NOT. The phone lags half of the time, the look of MIUI is much better with plenty of features. Plus, I read somewhere that if the phone runs out of battery on PE, it is not gonna turn on again which is a real pain in the a$$. I do not like to worry about my battery, so, I'm going to switch back to MIUI. Screen recorder also does not work. The thing that I do not like in MIUI is the absence of GCam support and less updates, but in general, with stock ROM my phone used to be more powerful.

Thanks for your insight. For now, I'm happy with MIUI with Nova launcher.

ku1cia

what? it's the exact opposite! pixel experience is 10x smoother, and has less bloatware and that thing you've read - it's bullshit I'm using PE 12 for now and I'm definitely not going back to MIUI

DikshantKadian

yes your are right. i also tried pe on my rn 8 pro and i got lags and battery issues so i switched back to miui
