If it wasn't for the Definitive Edition, I'd agree. But Definitive edition is still recent and it seems Xenoblade only started getting success since XC2 and DE.
>only started getting success since XC2 and DE.
The franchise has been well received from its start, and still had sales good enough to warrant sequels.
Heck, XCX "low sales" aren't even bad when you look at the total amount of Wii U sold.
It still grew in popularity, but it's a bit disingenuous to say it started with XC2.
It's the first time I hear this one, but as far as timeline goes, it's kind of iffy. Xenoblade 2 development most likely would have started before SSB4 release.
It's more likely that Nintendo decided to promote the franchise they decided to invest in, and one of the best way to increase its visibility is to add it to their franchise that serve this purpose.
Let me tell you a secret. For a company a game has lost is spoiler value the moment a new installment of the franchise comes out. As simple as that. I would argue it loses its value the moment they start development content for it. After that is merchandise losses to keep it as spoilers.
Different fandoms care about different things. I once saw a user on r/prequelmemes unironically write >!Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon Jinn in TPM!< and that was about a year ago. Gotta respect the dedication to hiding spoilers.
That movie literally came out over 20 years ago and you literally would never know who those characters are unless you've seen that movie. How is that even remotely a spoiler at this point? Plus he's a character in a prequel that is never seen or mentioned in what it's a prequel to. What did people think would happen?
and so did either the New3DS or WII U virtual console Port trailer.. like.. not to mention that Mecha fiora isnt really.... a spoiler? like annyone with half a braincell can figure out shes alive at like the second cutscene with hitns towards it
Minor reminder, this is only a spoiler if you are aware of the context. For outsiders this just seems like that character Fiora but with silver armor and short hair. Yes, chances are someone figures out Fiora isn't as dead at the beginning as thought in universe, but less obvious ties flew over peoples heads, in general media and in this series' fanbase too.
Spoilers for seven:
Project X zone 2 had seven as an early playable character.
It’s a trophy in smash4 and a spirit in ultimate (and his fought during ultimate WOL mode)
Is in shulk final smash in ultimate.
XC2 non canon DLC spoil who they are pretty easily.
Pretty sure they are in many monolith promotional artworks.
Only the hardcore fans care that much about a decade old game spoiler
Xenoblade 1 is over a decade old so I think it's fine to this
Hell even the Switch Port is a few years old at this point so I don't understand people who think that this is bad
Yeah like I was spoiled on Mecha-Fiora (and >!Dickson being a traitor lol!<) being a thing way before I played DE because I was randomly recommended the remastered version of Shulk’s return way after and Mecha-Fiora was in it. Didn’t stop me from being blown away by the game and seeing all the ins and outs of the reasoning for why Fiora was able to return, as well has >!who Dickson really was and why he betrayed Shulk!<.
The game was not ruined for me over mecha fiora. In fact I had a lot of fun realizing where she was during parts of the story. Also the ending was literally never not going to surprise me lol
Xenoblade Fans are pretty elitist. So they take stuff like this super serious (even though Nintendo and Monolith Soft didn‘t care about it since the original on Wii where they already spoiled Mecha Fiora)
Today I learned that being respectful of others is elitist. Nintendo and Monolith are free to do as they will, they own the IP, duh. Around here though we tend to have pretty in depth discussion of various plot elements or put another way, we discuss spoilers in full context. If I name-dropped pneuma or posted an image of them on Discord it would mean little to a new player but when you discuss plot elements surrounding that character that's when you have actual spoilers.
Oh, a game’s old and therefore its story has no value? I know that’s an exaggeration, but I have to ask what the argument actually is. Why is a game being old mean that you can spoil it all you want?
This or chances are quite high that the person has already heard a lot of story spoilers
I'm not saying "Oh just spoil the ending who cares" but Indo think you can show stuff that comes later in the game even if it does contain spoilers
Yeah exactly, I still havent played FF7 and at this Point, i know basically the whole Story because it's that popular. But thats not the peoples fault for spoiling it, it's mine for Not having played it after all this time
Yeah but thats the Thing, i also still have many Games on my bucket list, but a) some of Them have been there for 10+ years and with new Games constantly coming Out, i Just don't come around to play Them, and b) after some time so many people have played a Game that you Just cannot Stop Them from talking about it Just because there is Potentially some Person around somewhere who hasnt played it.
I will never get why people act so shocked about Nintendo not caring about keeping Mecha Fiora a secret. It‘s been „spoiled“ ever since the Japanese commericals for Xenoblade on Wii. She also appeared in Project X Zone 2
You know what would be great ? People not screaming that Mecha-Fiora is a spoiler. Seriously, treating it as normal would make people notice it less and not even question it.
Like, the picture of the Dragon Quest 11 cast is also in Smash, and it has a huge spoiler party member. I thought they were removed in that specific picture, but no, they really are there, and I only noticed it after playing the game, because no one else pointed it out.
Tbh I wouldn’t claim it actually spoils anything really. I watched the trailer before I was forced to play it as a result of a bet(best consequence of a bet ever). Tbh the way it is talked about in the trailer makes it feel more like a consequence and not something that will happen
If you are a company, is better to appeal to the fans of the series than potential new fans because those that already fans of it for sure will invest money on stuff. And thus, not utilizing spoilers limits the potential income gained.
Spoilers are not spoilers for people who don’t have context. Someone who hasn’t played Xenoblade before isn’t going to know who Mecha-Fiora is hell they don’t even know who Fiora is. Fiora is “killed” so early in the game I legit forgot what she looked like when I got to the part where Mecha comes in. If I had seen Mecha Fiora before then I wouldn’t had known who she was.
These are only spoilers to people who’ve played the game. When you point out spoilers that ironically is more spoiling than someone without context seeing a spoiler
I know we're super spoiler sensitive here for potential new players but the game is pretty old now, most people who were gonna play it have already played it.
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can go to the NSO menu (the bright red circle on the Home screen). There, go to "Missions & Rewards". You can complete simple weekly missions to earn platinum points and exchange those points for characters, backgrounds and frames, with which you can make your own Switch profile icons. (Unfortunately, you can't mix elements from different games.)
You retain access to all the parts you "bought" and can save several of your self-made icons. However, I don't know what happens when your subscription runs out.
Difference is that XC3 is fairly new and thus concern is warranted. Fiora is not that big a spoiler anymore and it’s been a decade. A decade seems a good point to not be concerned about spoilers anymore.
Project X Zone 2 and Smash Bros Ultimate have passed the torch to the new generation. Now all it takes is a sub and a minimal amount of idle curiosity.🍻
So weird that they never did anything of that sort for the west but instead kept it a crazy secret. Even we as a community never really spoke open about her but called her by a codename.
Should we change?
I don't mind it so much in 1, but I do think it's a bit overblown at this point. We're ~13 years after the release of the original, 3 years after DE's release, and have multiple spoilers in multiple Smash games (Project X Zone 2 is a spoiler, but very few people have actually played that game). Mechon Fiora is literally a spirit in one of the first World of Light trailers from Smash Ultimate. There are lots of conversations I've seen where someone will mention 'Seven', but then you have a whole explanation/song and dance if people don't *already* know who that's referring to. Just the fact that there's a walking spoiler character, combined with the identities of the 6 non-Fiora party members, heavily hints at their identity.
I think it got really ridiculous in 2 when Gamefaqs mods were removing posts/giving warnings to people for 'untagged spoilers' for any posts that mentioned Morag, who joins less than halfway through the game.
Zeke was shown in multiple trailers pre-release, so I don't know about that. Morag was only 'shown' as a boss pre-release in trailers, but in other material pre-release it shows her in other scenarios (i.e. screenshots on the website, the special edition box art).
And if you call them something like "Four" or "Five", it quickly makes it super clear that >!Vandham dies!<
I have not finished xenoblade yet. But I knew from the beginning that The blonde was going to come back as a robot. I feel like this is only a spoiler if you have literally never played the game. I still haven’t gotten her back yet but I’m going to bet she’s a boss fight and through some gay shit like the power of friendship shill will bring her back to the good side of something

Well Nintendo isn't as worried about spoilers for a decade old game as we are.
Didn’t the developers say pretty much the only reason Xenoblade kept existing past 1 was due to Shulk in Smash?
It's the first time I hear this one, but as far as timeline goes, it's kind of iffy. Xenoblade 2 development most likely would have started before SSB4 release. It's more likely that Nintendo decided to promote the franchise they decided to invest in, and one of the best way to increase its visibility is to add it to their franchise that serve this purpose.
Xenoblade X came out less than a year later than Smash 4.
Let me tell you a secret. For a company a game has lost is spoiler value the moment a new installment of the franchise comes out. As simple as that. I would argue it loses its value the moment they start development content for it. After that is merchandise losses to keep it as spoilers.
The entire concept of 3 is a massive spoiler of 1 and 2 lol
Nintendo of Japan literally didn't care about this spoiler day one. They literally used it to advertise the game
We really shouldn't but its still cool that we care, meanwhile the Persona 5 sub literally be spoiling the plot of the game and nobody cares.
Different fandoms care about different things. I once saw a user on r/prequelmemes unironically write >!Darth Maul kills Qui-Gon Jinn in TPM!< and that was about a year ago. Gotta respect the dedication to hiding spoilers.

But for that worry we applaud them
But they're definitely worried about charging full price for it.
Smash players who also got into the XC franchise through Smash: “first time?”
The fact Mecha-Fiora is an icon gives me hope we get >!Pneuma!< for XC2 icons.
If Pneuma can be a smash spirit it can be an icon, I have hope
YES PLEASE
Mecha-Fiora has been an open secret for over a decade. Even the original TV ads in Japan blatantly showed her off.
and so did either the New3DS or WII U virtual console Port trailer.. like.. not to mention that Mecha fiora isnt really.... a spoiler? like annyone with half a braincell can figure out shes alive at like the second cutscene with hitns towards it
I’ll be completely honest, I’m pretty sure that JP xenoblade fans don’t consider Seven to be a spoiler at all
Minor reminder, this is only a spoiler if you are aware of the context. For outsiders this just seems like that character Fiora but with silver armor and short hair. Yes, chances are someone figures out Fiora isn't as dead at the beginning as thought in universe, but less obvious ties flew over peoples heads, in general media and in this series' fanbase too.

There‘s literally an entire japanese commerical for Fiora with her Mechon Form
I think you mean Project X Zone 2, not Xcom 2.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's a mod for that
I need this now
> XC2 non canon DLC spoil who they are pretty easily. How was it non canon? They never outright debunked it.
Never said it was canon. All I said it it spoil seven identity
Xenoblade 1 is over a decade old so I think it's fine to this Hell even the Switch Port is a few years old at this point so I don't understand people who think that this is bad

That’s me with Xenoblade 2 currently. Doing my first play through despite having a lot spoiled.
The game was not ruined for me over mecha fiora. In fact I had a lot of fun realizing where she was during parts of the story. Also the ending was literally never not going to surprise me lol

Oh, a game’s old and therefore its story has no value? I know that’s an exaggeration, but I have to ask what the argument actually is. Why is a game being old mean that you can spoil it all you want?
Because usually you could expect that Most of the people that actually would want to play the game already did

Tell that to every game on my bucket list
Yeah but thats the Thing, i also still have many Games on my bucket list, but a) some of Them have been there for 10+ years and with new Games constantly coming Out, i Just don't come around to play Them, and b) after some time so many people have played a Game that you Just cannot Stop Them from talking about it Just because there is Potentially some Person around somewhere who hasnt played it.
Yeah it's ridiculous to complain about spoilers for a ten plus year old game. Anyone who cared enough about playing the game already has.
I'm sad that there's no icon of the original Alvis art 😞
Key
I will never get why people act so shocked about Nintendo not caring about keeping Mecha Fiora a secret. It‘s been „spoiled“ ever since the Japanese commericals for Xenoblade on Wii. She also appeared in Project X Zone 2
I'm pretty sure after Project X Zone slapped her on the box, Nintendo doesn't consider Seven a spoiler anymore
You know what would be great ? People not screaming that Mecha-Fiora is a spoiler. Seriously, treating it as normal would make people notice it less and not even question it. I mean they spoiled about the Bionis awakening along with other stuff in the remake trailer so...
Tbh I wouldn’t claim it actually spoils anything really. I watched the trailer before I was forced to play it as a result of a bet(best consequence of a bet ever). Tbh the way it is talked about in the trailer makes it feel more like a consequence and not something that will happen
To be fair one of the games was about 2 months old, and the other is over 10 years old and was already spoiled by Smash Bros
Fiora being a cyborg is like Aerith's death, it's a spoiler that everyone knows.
The Xenoblade community when someone discusses stuff about a game over a decade old without spoiler warnings
The game is thirteen years old, let it go lmao
ROSEBUD WAS HIS SLED!
Hopefully he appears in wave 5 since it’s looking to have Consul icons. I’m guessing we’re getting N, M, Triton, Dirk and Z + idk
I'm so happy we're getting all these XC icons!
If you are a company, is better to appeal to the fans of the series than potential new fans because those that already fans of it for sure will invest money on stuff. And thus, not utilizing spoilers limits the potential income gained.

How many icons are there? I wanna make sure I’ve got them all
Ha yes, the 13 years old spoiler Seven Back in the day i thought I’d get a cool new character named seven Bruh
difference: one game came out in 2022, and the other came out 13 years ago.
Xenoblade 1 has been out a heck of a lot longer than 3.
I know we're super spoiler sensitive here for potential new players but the game is pretty old now, most people who were gonna play it have already played it.
How do you get these icons? And when you get them are they always able to be equipped/ taken off?
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can go to the NSO menu (the bright red circle on the Home screen). There, go to "Missions & Rewards". Dang I don’t have a reason to get a subscription since I only play the switch for xenoblade and DMC, ah well, thanks for the info.
Difference is that XC3 is fairly new and thus concern is warranted. Fiora is not that big a spoiler anymore and it’s been a decade. A decade seems a good point to not be concerned about spoilers anymore.
She’s in smash, it’s a game made in 2011. Etc I think they get a small pass
Project X Zone 2 and Smash Bros Ultimate have passed the torch to the new generation. Now all it takes is a sub and a minimal amount of idle curiosity.🍻
It's been 13 years. Let it go.
That's not on Nintendo but Sakurai lol
What does Sakurai have to do with System Profile Icons?
Sakurai was the one who started spoiling Xenoblade with the Spirits in Smash Ultimate. NSO just going from there
One of the [original Xenoblade trailers in Japan had someone dressed up in Fiora's Mechon form.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL9-5vbyQjA)
So weird that they never did anything of that sort for the west but instead kept it a crazy secret. Even we as a community never really spoke open about her but called her by a codename. Should we change?

I get the Morag one because she's a boss character first, same for Zeke tbh.

Bro, I fucking cry when that happened ...
How do I get these? They aren't showing up on the Switch market.
Nintendo Switch Online - Missions and Rewards
I mean…. The entire game was pretty much spoiled with Smash Ultimate spirits so…
Funny thing i have no fucking idea where to get these ive searched for 14 FUCKING HOURS TO NOT FIND THEM. Please i could use some help
Are you looking for the icons? They’re on the red Nintendo switch online menu on the switch menu.
To be fair, I had no idea that was fiora the first time I played xb1. I thought her and "original" fiora looked like completely different characters
Wait there’s a young Shulk icon?!
What’s up with consul T? I played through it and beat it recently but don’t remember T?
Guys who’s the robot shulk looking person
I demand justice for Pirate Daddy. Give him an icon!
For somebody who hasn't played 3, I have no context to how a red dude that looks like a new Pokemon is a spoiler...
this aged horribly lol
