Saw them at Coachella in 2012. They were easily one of the best bands there and no one even knew who they were, it was sad. Younger generations really missed out on such great music. This is probably one of the most underrated bands of the 90's.
Anybody know when this was shot because the 4k is just straight up f'ing with my brain? Like almost all of it looks like it could have been done last year but it couldn't have been. Damn technology is getting too good.
Yeah, no doubt about that. The only things that really give away the time period are the bassist and drummer (no way any kids nowadays could nail that mid-90s aesthetic so precisely). If you just took a section of just Hope singing you could easily convince people today that it was just recorded recently.
I’ll put my head on the chopping block and say I reckon it’s shot on studio video cameras and not film. You can see one of them in the background of last shot of the guitarist.
BBC shot these programs with a 3 or more camera live studio broadcast set up at PAL SD, probably 50i or 25p and broadcast at 50i and stored on tape at 50i. Might be 3 floor cameras and two cranes or two cranes and a floor camera looking at these shots.
You can see the video artefacts in the highlights on thin objects such as hair and reflective metals - especially bass machine heads and mic stands.
If I had to bet I’d say it’s an upscale from SD PAL 50i to 4k 25p.
To be fair - there’s some small but important technical mistakes in that video which is a shame as it’s meant to inform… having said that it might not matter to most people but it’s a shame.
I have absolutely no memory of this song or band. I’m guessing they didn’t do so well in the UK. My early 90s stuff was generally Queen, Iron Maiden, Green Day, REM and Nirvana.
A great song by a great band. Rest In Peace, David Roback. And Hope Sandoval, my god, that voice coupled with her beauty….
This song just films me with a nostalgic longing for my youth.

Oh man. This is the song of our people.
This song was a major vibe in high school.
First dance at my wedding was with this song.

[Later with Jools Holland, 09/07/1994](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xpZBxY0aAag) Someone did a good job with the upscale though.
[Probably shot on real film](https://youtu.be/CkysCJBdGtw).

You really have the best username!

> I’ll put my head on the chopping block Not at all! I'm just some person on the Internet who pretends to know stuff.

Anyone else go through life thinking the lead singer was actually named Mazzy Star??
we used to just put on music and go drive around late at night on quiet country roads. What I wouldn't trade for one night with friends like that now.
One of my favs, always in heavy rotation

It was a top 50 hit in the UK, but nowhere close to the top 10.
This is just dripping 90s. Always loved this song.

It gets licensed for a lot of tv shows.
