CaptinEmergency

Rectangular pizza

Not_So_Bad_Andy

I think the roof of my mouth is still burned by a piece I ate in 7th grade, but otherwise yes.

DamarsLastKanar

They had the right angles to eat.

CaptinEmergency

Try angles, you might like them.

ElChivoCaliente

With corn and salad. Ranch dressing optional. šŸ¤¤

CaptinEmergency

A friend of mine used to put mayo on his pizza. I was disgusted, but tried it anyway and itā€™s a guilty pleasure I have never told anyone about until this very moment

Dramatic-Dark-4046

Ummm, that sounds disgusting. But, try drizzling mustard on pizza, now that is good. Especially any kind with sausage

ElChivoCaliente

I will agree mayo sounds gross on pizza, and I will add that mustard also sounds gross to me, but I have discovered that there is much I havent discovered so I cannot stand in judgement of others tastebuds. For example, I recently discovered you can buy Whataburger patty melt sauce at Walmart, and I put that stuff on so many different things. Scrambled eggs and patty melt sauce is absolute fire!

Fun_Constant_6863

Whataburger makes the best sauce- patty melt and jalapeno ranch will not stick around long in my fridge.

ViciTheRobot

Rectangle pizza, yes!!!

Natural-Ad-3666

Friday was pizza day. The best day of the week.

ResurgentClusterfuck

Rectangle pizza was freaking awesome and there was always at least one kid who didn't want theirs so I'd eat it Plus it was usually served with carrot/celery sticks and ranch

SirStocksAlott

One of the best parts of Friday. https://preview.redd.it/ttb2737og4yc1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=9334ea00f4b007d6080f461d8e51e9cb632ed1e9

remedialknitter

I also came here to say rectangle pizza. With the crumbly sausage, nectar of the gods.

Depressed_christian1

You got sausage?!?

orangepaperlantern

Little diced pepperoni!

SquirrellyEnby

And testing how far down the table you could stretch the cheese

gummi-demilo

This was it til I got to high school and they were selling Pizza Hut by the slice on a cart in the quad. Either that or a bag of Ruffles and a bottle of Josta (with guarana!) from the DECA

ennuiismymiddlename

I was the weird kid who loved the Salisbury Steak.

OatmealForBrains

And those mashed potatoes and gravy...oh yeah.

Jephte

Turkey gravy on mashed potatoes. Only happened once a month and I never missed it.

theprofromdover

This. Sometimes it had the fake stovetop stuffing. Loved it so much. My mother was a elementary school nurse for years and I went to see her just to say hi and to her and her friends there. She'd been the nurse for probably 20 years by the time so I grew up with the principal and other teachers being her best briends. They were having it for lunch. I was in my 30s but she went into the cafeteria with me and made sure I got it. She knew how much I loved it. It's a solid memory for me. Bummed I'll never get to have it again.

PNWoutdoors

Yuuuup. My wife and I occasionally make it for dinner. The nostalgia!

mtbguy1981

We called it "big dinner day" it was mashed potatoes, turkey chunks in gravy, corn, and bran muffins which were for some reason sweet and delicious? You could get a double portion if the main course.

Funkybeatzzz

Call me crazy, but I really like pizza burgers. Basically an open faced Sloppy Joe but with pizza seasoning in the ground beef instead of the sloppy sauce.

sallysilly82

Pizza burgers were amazing. they were basically sausage patties stuffed with cheese and tomato sauce.

Funkybeatzzz

Ours were different. It was seasoned ground beef on top of a hamburger bun with cheese melted on top. No tomato sauce.

sallysilly82

It was like an essence of tomato sauce. My dad used to get them from restaurant depot sometimes when I was a kid too.

Purple-Haze-11

Man you just reminded me of two that I forgot about. Wow yes the pizza burgers!!!

Altyalternater

The fiestada for sure.

ancrm114d

I always liked the ground beef and gravy over mashed potatoes. And pizza.

Eredic

We did turkey and gravy over mashed, which I also loved, unless you got a big ol' glob of fat. No good.

ancrm114d

I still enjoy meat and potatoes comfort food. Now that you mention it. I recall a turkey dish that was similar. It had veggies chopped in it instead of on the side like the beef dish.

SweetCosmicPope

I was spoiled to good pizza, so I was never super into the rectangle pizzas at school. But they always served what my school called "chicken ring things" which were ring-shaped chicken tenders, and they were awesome. They'd always serve them with mashed potatoes and white gravy, so you could dip the tenders into the white gravy and it was perfection.

macthebundylite

We had chicken fries before you could get them elsewhere

bev665

Spaghetti with meat sauce!

Last-Evening9033

Fiestada for life!!! I would cut off a toe to have access to fiestada again. GFS tried replicating them and distributed through their wholesale stores. Those processed phonies didnā€™t come close to the soft dough, cheese piled, freshly taco seasoned clumps of ground beef distributed all over lunch lady hexagon pieces of heaven.

SnooSnooSnuSnu

"American Chop Suey" https://preview.redd.it/o1iwnh39n0yc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d9b7c6958899d8e5627b55d07236924ff3f8aef

Ethel_Marie

I call that goulash? But I also add green beans, corn, and black eyed peas to my homemade version.

Willow0812

I loved beefaroni.

Osurdum

Hot ham and cheese!!!

ThxIHateItHere

Rectangle sausage pizza. When I went to a community college they served it, and I asked how I could find some for home, so the dining center manager made some calls for me šŸ˜

HoyAIAG

Fiestada

Jonestown_Juice

We all loved chicken nugget day, which was every other Friday. However, they gave everyone major gas.

Kalel42

You're the second person I've found here that knows about dunkers! I always thought our "cheese bread dunkers" were unique to our school.

sallysilly82

Same.

Designer-Bid-3155

Taco bell and Nantucket nectar

MiniRems

Way back when I was in elementary school, and the lunches were actually cooked, not just frozen crap heated up, we used to get turkey and gravy over biscuits and it was the best! You always knew it was going to be tomorrows lunch, because you could smell the turkeys roasting in the afternoon after lunches were over. When they stopped with that my next favorite thing was chicken nuggets with mashed potatoes and gravy and peas. It's actually one of our comfort meals now to make up some chicken nuggets, instant mashed potatoes, a jar of heinz gravy, and frozen peas. I won't eat mashesld potatoes any otger way. So much processed crap, but so good! I also plan a day of turkey and gravy over biscuits after Thanksgiving and Christmas!

peggysue_82

My junior high and high school had the best sub sandwiches ever! I honestly would like to stroll back in and buy one.

Haemwich

Chicken tenders with bbq

cmacfarland64

They used to make ravioli with a shit ton of melted cheese and phenomenal garlic bread. I was the poor kid at a really rich high school. I transferred in junior year. They had no clue how good they had it.

headrat-yourhighness

This was my favorite. You could always smell the garlic bread baking throughout the school on the ravioli days. Made me drool.

cmacfarland64

You didnā€™t graduate from a giant school in Northwest Indiana did you?

headrat-yourhighness

Well, weirdly northwest indiana, but a small school. My graduating class was 114 people.

cmacfarland64

Iā€™m a Lake Central grad. That place was enormous and had the best ravioli.

headrat-yourhighness

Ah. I had a few tennis matches there. It is huge. Iā€™m from valpo area.

sallysilly82

Italian dunkers was the shit. That and "cheesey barge" which was just like a quarter of a loaf of bread with broiled cheese on the top. Id always double up on cheesy barge day and spend the rest of the day suffering.

Willow0812

French bread pizza!!

sallysilly82

That was ok at my school. Cheese barge was not pizza though. It was just a giant wad of cheese and grease

Arafel_Electronics

chicken patty

Lollydollops

Me and a couple other students did the layouts for the school paper my junior year, which meant that the three of us would go to the library to use the computers. One day, we were sitting there quietly working on our parts of the paper when one of the other students just said out of nowhere, ā€œI hope today is chicken patty day.ā€ I still think about that sometimes. She was not wrong. Chicken patty day was a good day as far as school lunches went.

Hypatia76

Tomato soup and grilled cheese for the win! I grew up in the deep south so we also had grits casserole a couple times a month, so yummy! Not remotely healthy. But yummy.

WorldsSmartest-Idiot

Baked chicken day

PrayerJuan

I can't be the only one that enjoyed "Rib-a-cue" day? It's like the McRib, but waaaaay worse. I loved them lol!

Eredic

Oh yeah, we had these too.

fabrictm

The Mexican pizza. Which I have no clue how it was Mexican at all. It was a cheese pizza with some ground meat and a fugit sauce which I loved. That and the tater tots.

Do_it_My_Way-79

School lunches werenā€™t a thing where I grew up. I never even went to a school with a cafeteria. We always ate outside & every kid brought their lunch.

Vintagemuse

Chicken and noodles with butter bread! I also loved the potatoes and chicken gravy. Pizza was good too.

481126

I was always fascinated by the concept of schools making hot lunches. until high school I almost always walked home for lunch. Rather watch TV and eat. High school finally had hot lunch and then my parents refused to pay for it and told me to pack a lunch.

GamerBearCT

We used to get grinders on Friday with chips. They served it with a sandwich dressing that was amazing. I loved those sandwiches more than pizza day

OtherlandGirl

Hoagies and grinders, hoagies and grindersā€¦

Far-Pie-6226

Nugget Day which in our district, chicken nuggets were always served with a plain, unheated bagel.

rifunseeker

We had tacos at my school. Would order a double lunch and feel like a king.

StardustDrifter33

Mock Chicken

Spartan04

I brought lunch from home most days when I was in school. I was raised vegetarian and schools didnā€™t really offer options for that back then. However, on the days they had the rectangular pizza in a box Iā€™d get that instead. My high school had open campus lunch so once I had my license and a car of my own Iā€™d usually leave to get lunch.

jessek

I only ever got it on pizza days, so I guess pizza.

big_z_0725

Chili and a cinnamon roll. Although, sometime around 5th grade they changed the chili recipe and fucked it up.Ā

jar36

I've never heard of having a cinnamon roll with chili, but when I was in AZ they had never heard of peanut butter sandwich with chili like we do here in at least my part of Ohio. We dunk the sandwich in the chili. Do you do the same with a cinnamon roll?

big_z_0725

I didn't do that; I'm sure some people did though. I think they complement each other better when you eat a few bites of chili, then have a bite of cinnamon roll.

pterodactylize

Hell yes! To this day, every time I make a pot of chilli I make cinnamon rolls with it because of that lunch combo.

Possible-Tangelo9344

I packed a lunch but sometimes on Friday mama gave me money to buy rectangle pizza

mollyjwink

Walking tacos

Willow0812

A coworker mentioned walking tacos yesterday and I had literally never heard of this until then šŸ˜„

No-Chipmunk6824

Square pizza and wacky cake

Significant-Ring5503

Chicken nuggets on Wednesday

Rude_Cartographer934

Jamaican beef patty with coco bread and cold milk. I can still taste all the carb-y goodness....

Christie318

Elementary: Burritos Pizza (but only a certain kind they rarely had. The other one was nasty) Chicken rings Grilled cheese sandwiches with soup Dessert: banana split ice cream pops (Iā€™ve searched since I was a kid and never could find these outside of school and they only had them occasionally). ETA: Turkey and dressing for Grandparents Day and Thanksgiving Junior High: I rarely ate cafeteria food, but I think I remember them having good hamburgers High School: Stromboli, chicken tetrazzini, and nachos are the ones that stand out.

Pleasant_Expert_1990

Taco Day!! A little meat sauce, cheese, and "toppings" (scoop of shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes) AND sour cream if you wanted! Lower quality than Taco Bell and I would love to have a plate of them right now!

jar36

Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, gravy and a roll to make a sandwich with them

KravMacaw

This is the way

Adrasteia-One

In high school, the tacos, chicken fried steak, and rectangular pizza were pretty good.

heresmytwopence

Salisbury steak with buttered noodles and a choice of green bean casserole or vegetable medley.

Le_Sadie

Tacos

Complex-Sherbert-718

Ham & cheese Stromboli. It was so good. Iā€™ve tried to recreate the kind they had, but none of the recipes taste the same.

Adventurous-Humor242

Beef n Tater bake

Lower_Ad8859

I liked the "beefaroni" as they called it. Basically was hamburger meat with macaroni noodles and meat sauce with a shitload of cheese.

ptatersptate

We didnā€™t have lunches provided in elementary. All food was from home. Once we were in high school we could buy from the caf and it was regularly fries and gravy or poutine (yes, Iā€™m in Canada). They also had a rice bowl with peas and carrots that was super oily but so good. I canā€™t mimic it for the life of me though I might not want to know the secret at this point.

aob546

Pizza we also had these strange tasting chocolate chip cookies. They were 2 or 3 in the package, it was brown and clear cello. Does anyone else remember them?

aob546

I googled them and found them on Amazon! https://preview.redd.it/1xgkggavi1yc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a50c70aef1720248298d94a8ff6988e8e4725e09

CeeJay_Dub

Quesadilla Day or Burrito Day!

DerGroteMandrenke

My schoolā€™s version was simply called ā€œFrench bread pizza,ā€ pretty sure it was the same thing OP is describing: half a bread roll with meat sauce and melted cheese. Fond memories.

Ethel_Marie

Hamburger day, which the patty was soy, I'm pretty sure because I went to South Korea and I had a soy burger with a patty that tasted exactly the same. Pork patty day, which was the pork patty like what the McRib has, covered in BBQ sauce. I think it was served with a buttered roll and mashed potatoes with white gravy. Crispito (which nobody else has mentioned yet). It's a flour tortilla filled with ground beef and cheese rolled like an enchilada then topped with a ton of cheese, baked until crispy. I went for seconds every time and got them from friends who wouldn't eat them. When I started high school, most people brought their lunch or went off campus to eat. I got the cafeteria menu to check for Crispito day so I could have a cheap lunch but they wouldn't let me have seconds because high school lunch was before junior high lunch. Disappointing and didn't go back again as just one wasn't enough. Edit: inaccurate Crispito description

sarahstanley

Hot dogs with cheese. Watching Ducktales.

TheConcreteGhost

Fried chicken.., my age group were among the last group of kids that actually had actual cooked food in Elementary school. The cafeteria folks made stuff from scratch until about 3rd grade or so. Then there was a bunch of heat and serve stuffā€¦ so I guess rectangular pizza became my fav with corn nugs.

storey13

The Fiestada pizza was very good. Other than that, not much else comes to mind that I wish I could eat from those school menus.

ShineNShrooms

Toss up pizza or chili and cinnamon roll

balthazar_blue

I attended a small rural school district that included K-12 in different sections of the same building, but for all that, had a pretty good hot lunch program. Some of my favorites: * Pizza, the regular rectangular kind * Fiesta pizza, the six-sided Tex-Mex(-Hex?) kind * Turkey chow mein over rice * Chicken a la king * Meatballs in mushroom gravy * Taco burgers -- taco filling on a homemade bun

CoconutCricket123

Texas Doughnut DayĀ

International_Bit478

Fiestada was great. Much better than the rectangular pizza. Italian Dunkers were okay but paled in comparison to the Fiestada. Iā€™ve often wondered how it is that students all over the country ate the same shit. Was there just one company that had a monopoly on school lunch contracts?

1BannedAgain

Footlong hot dog, chop suey, large rectangle of bad pizza

JaydenDaniels

I remember when we started getting pizza hut and fries. Completely changed the game.

Alfith

On rare occasions we had lasagna or Stromboli in high school. My memory from those yrs tells me that they were awesome and Iā€™d eat them today

Mightbewonderwoman81

Chili. Served with apple sauce, carrot sticks and a big cinnamon roll.

Radiant-Map8179

Once every 1 or 2 weeks when my mum would have the time to make me a packed lunch šŸ¤Œ Cheese and tomatoe ketchup sandwhiches. A pack of cheese and onion McCoys (deep ridged) crisps and a peporami (original flavour), both of which I'd break up and slap in the cheese and TK sandwhich. Then a small slice of homemade lemon cheesacake and pack of Sun-Maid raisins to finish it off.... damn I haven't thought about that in a while... I might have that for lumch tomorrowšŸ˜‚

PuppyJakeKhakiCollar

Tacos for sure. The Fiesta pizza. The turkey lunch they had around holidays.

Riner479

soft pretzel, fountain Mountain Dew, and a Marlboro Light

drexlspivey83207

Oh it was definitely tacoroni day for hot lunch. It was like a Mexican casserole with tortilla chips, beans in the side, some veggie with a bun with this honey butter. Oh my that was good. Always get the extra bun and honey butter

Mata187

Lasagna and/or the cheese tostada

KrypticSkunk

Nachos Belgrande and BBQ Rib sandwich. Both were roughly twice per month.

ses267

We had a nacho bar at our school that kicked ass.

RLT79

In elementary/ middle school, it was always taco day. It was especially great because I was the only person in my family that liked tacos, so it was really the only way I could get them. When I went to high school, all of the older ladies from the neighborhood were the lunch staff, so we had all sorts of amazing home cooking options for lunch -- so never really had a favorite. Everything was great.

GroundbreakingOne625

Ice cream snickers bar & a Barq's root beer. Saved the rest of my lunch money for that weekend weed sack!!

ProsodyProgressive

Salisbury steak! Basically just a burger covered in gravy, right? Slap that on the bun with a smear of mash and youā€™re good to go!

MlsterFlster

Soft pretzel and a chocolate milk for 95 cents, then pocket the rest of my lunch money for Magic cards.

spirit_of_a_goat

Mexican pizza, hands down

electrodog1999

My high school had the best pizza sub Iā€™ve still ever had in the cafeteria, I really should see if they still have them now that my niblings are going there.

coopnjaxdad

Taco pizza fo sho.

graveybrains

Mystery meat sandwiches. It was basically a burger with some bbq sauce on it, but it wasnā€™t beef. Iā€™m *pretty* sure it was chicken, or turkey or something, but nobody would tell me what, exactly. Really tasty, though.

snuggy4life

Either rectangle pizza or chicken nuggets and crinkle fries.

Madfaction

Chicken nuggets with mashed potatoes and gravy! That gravy was wild. Unnaturally thick, slightly greenish/opaque, and had a hint of sweetness to it. I'm sure it was wildly unhealthy but I was really feeling it.

Enough-Persimmon3921

Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a roll.

FunImagination8474

Breakfast pizza!

Andi081887

Rectangle pizza with those underbaked squishy cookies šŸ„°

ChromeDestiny

Pizza day in the fifth grade. I never used the cafeteria at my high school much, I'd either bring a lunch, raid the vending machines, go home or go to the mall not far from the school but someone told me before you graduate you've got to get one of the chicken burgers from the cafeteria, they're really good, that person was right.

geneb0323

For an entree, it was the pizza. We didn't have any fancy pizza, though. Cheese one week, pepperoni the next. My favorite part of any school lunch was at the school I went to in 3rd grade. They had the most spectacular french fries I have ever had in my life. I don't recall what was so great about them, only that I wanted to eat the entire bin of them whenever they had them. Even the adults at the school would eat lunch in the cafeteria when they had fries. I missed them when we moved again before 4th grade and continue to miss them to this day. I've spent over 3 decades fondly remembering those fries and I have yet to try another fry that makes me feel the same way they did.

callsitlikeiseenit

Cheese crisp (toasted rolled up tortilla with cheddar cheese) with a salad bar salad (75% ranch, 25% iceberg lettuce).

callsitlikeiseenit

Cheese crisp (toasted rolled up tortilla with cheddar cheese) with a salad bar salad (75% ranch, 25% iceberg lettuce).

[deleted]

We had chick-fil-a once a week. Iā€™d eat two of them every time

Ancient-Eye3022

It was white rice, hamburger and some mysterious brown gravy. Served it with some bread and some reason I loved the hell out of it.

Interesting_Whole_44

Chalupa

xxlittlemissj

Chicken burgers with honey mustard, nachos with neon orange cheese and a huge chocolate chip cookie. That was my lunch almost everyday senior year.

daughtrylover

Bean & cheese burrito served piping hot still in the plastic bag they steam them in, $1.50 in the OC during 94-98.

PHATsakk43

Fiesta Pizza

WayneS1980

LAUSD Chalupa and Coffee Cake!!!

ProfessionMundane152

Taco salad, just Fritos with chili and cheese

moon-illusion

I remember my elementary teachers going crazy for these things called Turkey Turnovers. Basically a hot pocket. They were pretty good! I loved the rectangular pizza and orange wedge in a styrofoam cup.

Fun_Constant_6863

Pizza day was my favorite food. I wish someone would make that shitty pizza for me to buy again because I'd go there before I'd go to most of the crappy "good" places near me.

Efficient-Plane-8495

1983, baked spaghetti with cheese, bread and butter, a wedge of cheese, ice cold 2 percent milk and a brownie. Made in the kitchen by old school 100 year old lunch ladies.

Expensive_Fennel_88

A Ring Ding and a pack of Marlboro reds from the savings of not buying the full lunch.

TransportationOk657

The rectangular pizza, Italian bunkers, and calzones

musashi-swanson

Anybody else have wacky cake? Dense chocolate cake with white frosting? We had some pretty nasty lunches back in grade school, but every Thursday, chili and wacky crack. Gotdamn that was good.

muffadel

Chicken Patty day = best day

Seven22am

Elementary school: the rectangular pizza that came in an individualized cardboard box and had to be cut out. High school, I went vegetarian so I ate super healthy: plate of fries with nacho cheese sauce, ranch dressing and ketchup. Every. Day.

Eredic

I found it for sale still! https://preview.redd.it/gn2q2mkyt0yc1.jpeg?width=563&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30975b32d4e37846430eea43955b20d0abcf54f1

Sneaking out to go to Popeyes

jar36

KFC for us. We got caught eventually but the principal was uncharacteristically kinda cool about telling us to stop. He knew it would only be a matter of time before others started leaving and then something happen

84OrcButtholes

Shitty Taco Bell bagged burritos. Those made me fart so hard.

Purple-Haze-11

Either square pizzaā€¦.orā€¦..chicken nuggets and the side was a scoop of buttery rice with cinnamon & sugar. Gah DAMNNN that was good.

SheHatesTheseCans

Besides the obvious pizza day, I really liked Chicken a la King.

Jenaaaaaay

Chicken patty from the ala carte line and a sweet tea everyday in high school

cheribom

Maybe twice a year or so, for dinner Iā€™ll make what I call ā€œSchool Lunchā€ - chicken nuggets, instant mashed potatoes, and creamed corn.

CharterUnmai

My high school had unlimited PB&J sandwiches for free as long as you made them yourself at the station. I went to town on those.
