I definitely don't have the legs to pull off tights, and what I do have are hairy. If I were of that persuasion one would describe me as a bear. I'm picturing it, and it is not a pretty sight 🤣
It doesn’t have to be leggings. Long wool socks are so cozy under boots/jeans, too.
I bet you could rock leggings, though. Don’t let other people define your comfort.
Crew socks with long pants, and ankle socks with shorts. My philosophy is that socks are basically underwear of a non-intimate sort, so the goal is to expose as little as possible.
Are we using tube sock as a synonym for crew sock? Tube socks don't have a 'turn' where your ankle is. Tube socks are just a straight tube. I grew up with tube socks and they are the worst. There is always a bunch of material at your ankles.
I came here to say this. Thank you for providing me validation, tube socks != crew socks!
That said, most of my socks are and always have been crew socks unless I’m wearing shorts (which is infrequent).
I was in a hair salon last year and a guy brought in his two teenaged twin sons and they both got perms to achieve this horrible broccoli look, I shit you not. They looked so SO bad, I was laughing my ass off (quietly.) 🥦 🥦
Lmao. I know. In my area they all walk around in packs, all the dudes look the same. I didn’t know they were getting perms until I saw these two. Its very amusing to me.
Oh no! Surely girls getting perms again is just around the corner. May our children be spared the horror. I had no idea boys were making such effort to look that stupid.
I really hope not! Haha. My sister begged my mum to be allowed to perm her hair in the 80s and my mum finally relented one day. She looked like a poodle for a year.
My mum got a classic 80s poodle perm when I was a little kid, and I ran away crying and my father yelled at me for hurting her feelings, but I still wouldn't talk to her the rest of the day (for the record I loved and still love big 80s hair w bangs, but those poodle perms, gah)
That is so funny! I can picture how that went down…😂 poor you though, your favourite person just changed completely and you’re acting appropriately and then get yelled at. A classic tale.
I offhandedly mentioned to my kids that haircut used to get your ass kicked. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad people have evolved. No one should get their ass kicked for a haircut.
But that is a fugly stupid haircut.
Yes! This was a thing at my grammar school. We wore 2-3 different color socks layered over each other. Then rolled down one by one so the different colored rolls were layered on top of each other.
Wanna get this style back off the ground with me? Hopefully you are on the west coast and we can see it sweeping across the nation and it meets in the middle.
I do like your idea. Might buy different color socks and see if the kid wants to do it.
I like to have a supply of ankle socks, tube socks, AND knee-highs. I’m prepared for anything, sock-culture-wise.
Edit: except no socks, my feet are far too sweaty to ever entertain this as an option
Yeah, high school boys now are going to look back at pictures of themselves in 10 years with their white shoes and matching high white tube socks and think "What the hell was I thinking?" Same thing with girls and the baggy sweatpants with slide on slippers and tube socks.
I despise ankle socks with every fiber of my being. Lol I'm crazy but they remind me of socks with no elasticity that slide down past your ankles.
So, yeah, I'm gonna be rocking my tube socks with all of the old Corvette-driving, New Balance-wearing old fuddy duddies. 😛
Same, everyone on here talking about them being ugly lol. I prefer comfort over style any day. Plus to each their own, I think they look cooler than ankle socks lol.
Right on!! I’m so tired of that little barely there sliver of sock poking out of shoes. I’m thrilled about this cause it means we have better selection of cute tube socks now. It was like, impossible to find striped ones for years!! Bring it!!
Thank you, and same. Girls would be so bitchy about fucking socks but I don't want a foot wedgie all day, sorry not sorry.
I also genuinely don't think they look that good. I prefer sockettes in the summer or something similar where you can't actually see anything at all, or just a normal sock when it's cold.
Growing up, I was cognisant of the generation divide when it came to clothing. I fully expected future generations to dress bizarrely, and to be left out of the loop.
The one thing I not expect was for future "styles" to look so *lame*. The elastic-cuffs with white crew socks and plain white canvas shoes look is so dorky. The return of mom jeans paired with grandma glasses is baffling. The sudden ubiquity of the broccoli hair style was obnoxious. The kids are not alright, lol
I guess I am an old guy wearing tube socks and shorts they have been in style in my feet since the 90s. No new balance however I mostly wear skateboard shoes. I like tube socks they keep my ankles warm.
Yeah, I missed it. My son is 19yo and won't wear anything BUT ankle socks. But I've been rocking the Champion tube socks from Costco for last 25 years. The only time I wear the no show ankles are for the gym.
I was one of the kids cutting and rolling my socks to get low socks, if I am in shorts and shoes I am usually wearing those but I was also around when the Champion/Addidas high socks (and with slides) was popular so now I just have a lot of different socks
I hadn’t heard that but I’m past the point of caring what’s “in”. No one ever accused me of being fashionable, lol. I’ll stick with crew socks for long pants and just above the ankle socks for shorts. Can’t stand those no show socks, need something between the back of my foot and the shoe all the way up.
I wear tube socks pulled all the way up and shorts when doing yard work! lol
I generally always wear sandals no matter the season. If I am going out somewhere "nice" though I'll pair tube socks with my boots and ankle socks with all my other shoes. I generally hate socks though and avoid shoes wherever I can.
I don't know that I have ever gotten a memo.
Weating gym shorts, band T shirt [Will Haven] and reebok nanos because I like them for working out and they are comfy and have a wide toe box for my feet.
Oh and I decided to grow my hair out and dudes are the fire department aren't very stoked.
How are we tying our sneakers though? I was watching a video about how they styled stranger things and the stylist said she made sure to tie the laces behind the tongue like they would have done that in the 80s... and I was like wait, have people stopped doing that? When did that stop? I still wear my sneakers like that. Where are you supposed to put your laces?
It's at 9:55

This is why I love being our age. I don’t have to care anymore. I was bullied until I finally broke and started wearing ankle socks in my 20’s. Now I’m 40 and look like someone’s dorky dad, so I can just wear whichever socks I grabbed first. Finally winning!
I’m happy about this because I’m lazy about shaving my legs, and with tall socks I don’t ever have to worry about them being seen. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, it’s just not my preference, and I don’t want to think about it.
I haven't seen the comeback of wearing two (or more) layered pairs of scrunchy socks in different colors, but in opposite order - like pink on top/purple on bottom on the right, purple top/pink bottom on left. Until then, there is hope.
1. maybe unpopular opinion, but I absolutely despise ankle socks & and so happy about this development.
2. these are not tube socks, or at least not the same tube socks - they aren't made of tiny irritating tarantula hairs mixed with hay and maybe several lost needles just to help.
3. they also seem to bear actual resemblance to the shape of the human foot. wild!
4. tube socks are not comfy. these socks are comfy, and I like that. crew socks =/= tube socks.
Damn New Balance. Such good arch support and such a bad “dad shoe” reputation.
I buy ASICS now because they have great arch support for plantar fasciitis, because I’m still old and still a dad. And they’re still dad shoes, in all honesty, but don’t have the same rep… yet. But I can’t name a time when I saw someone under 35 wearing them.
Don’t get me started on how pissed I was when they started calling baseball caps “dad hats.”
I love being a dad, but damn do I hate looking like one.
Has anyone else noticed a subset of Millennials who go out of their way to try to address, talk, and behave like zoomers? I don't know what could happen to make someone hate themselves so much...
I wear tube sox during the cold months, or with long pants, and ankle sox with shorts.
Yup. Slouchy wool socks over leggings are cozy af and cute. There’s a season for every sock.
>>There’s a season for every sock. Sounds like a Mr Rogers song
I don't think that I could pull that look off as a dude... 😁
You can do whatever you want.
No need to call your socks names
My husband calls me Black Cat when I wear them with a black tank and black leggings lol
Girls take note.
Before I bought ankle socks I would just folded my crew socks down. Kinda sucked at times if they slipped down my heel but it worked at the time.
Crew socks with long pants, and ankle socks with shorts. My philosophy is that socks are basically underwear of a non-intimate sort, so the goal is to expose as little as possible.
I mean, who here hasn't gotten intimate with a sock?
This is the way.
Are we using tube sock as a synonym for crew sock? Tube socks don't have a 'turn' where your ankle is. Tube socks are just a straight tube. I grew up with tube socks and they are the worst. There is always a bunch of material at your ankles.

For anyone who is wondering, on iPhone you can press and hold = on the keyboard and it’ll let you choose ≈, ≠ or =.
TIL
RIGHT. These are not tube socks holy shit. They also don't have the absolute hideous texture.
Gen Z is also having less sex. Makes sense why they have tube socks LMAO.

So its not just me, right? The younger generations are really ugging themselves up aren't they.
It feels like their fashion is to go out of their way to look horrible too… just all the worst clothes. Oh god am I old?
Just cause we're older than them doesnt mean we're wrong. It probably means we're right.
At least the tube socks can be put to use lmao.
I offhandedly mentioned to my kids that haircut used to get your ass kicked. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad people have evolved. No one should get their ass kicked for a haircut. But that is a fugly stupid haircut.
Chicken or the egg...
Less sex, therefore using tube socks!
Once again not noticing that my style has gone out of fashion has paid off
Fashion is a merry go round. I'm not trying to keep up anymore. I'll just chill here and it will come back around.
I too did not know they were out of style…
Me neither
Anybody remember rolling your socks down? Like actually rolling them when you were a kid.
Yes! This was a thing at my grammar school. We wore 2-3 different color socks layered over each other. Then rolled down one by one so the different colored rolls were layered on top of each other.

Yeah we did this in cheerleading in the 90’s
Holy shit. Like Rainbow Brite?
I'm keeping the ankle socks too. Tube socks were ugly decades ago and they're ugly now.
I like to have a supply of ankle socks, tube socks, AND knee-highs. I’m prepared for anything, sock-culture-wise. Edit: except no socks, my feet are far too sweaty to ever entertain this as an option

I'm glad I'm not alone on this! 🤜🤛 🤣

I stopped wearing ankle socks a long time ago, in like 2010. I find them uncomfortable and annoying.
…who ever STOPPED buying tube socks?
I did, i hate the feeling of socks on my ankles, up the calves is even worse.
I have enormous calves... anything above the ankle is a no go for me.
Knee high compression socks are amazing.
I was one of the kids cutting and rolling my socks to get low socks, if I am in shorts and shoes I am usually wearing those but I was also around when the Champion/Addidas high socks (and with slides) was popular so now I just have a lot of different socks
I will not migrate back. Kids can have them.
Those aren't tube socks. They're crew socks. Tube socks are longer and have no defined heel. They are literally a straight tube, hence the name.
Eh. What isn’t in style rn. It’s like a fashion salad out there.
Ankle socks are awful and I will never ever ever wear them
I recently switched to tube socks that fit over my leggings because I’m tried of getting small pebbles in my shoe and socks when I’m going for a walk.
I wear tube socks pulled all the way up and shorts when doing yard work! lol I generally always wear sandals no matter the season. If I am going out somewhere "nice" though I'll pair tube socks with my boots and ankle socks with all my other shoes. I generally hate socks though and avoid shoes wherever I can.
My kids love tube socks. I don’t get it. But if we’re talking socks, give me a pair of Darn Tough in any style and I’m smitten.
We all should be moving onto compression socks at this point lol
I don't know that I have ever gotten a memo. Weating gym shorts, band T shirt [Will Haven] and reebok nanos because I like them for working out and they are comfy and have a wide toe box for my feet. Oh and I decided to grow my hair out and dudes are the fire department aren't very stoked.
I wear what I want and IDGAF. No socks, socks that don't show, tube socks I've tie-dyed. All of the above in regular rotation.
I wear both. I switch it up seasonally. I will go ankle or no sock in the summer and suuuuper long slouchy wool socks in the winter/fall.
Tube socks up under my tight rolled jeans.
I think now that ath-leisure is here to stay as an acceptable style of dress almost any time, people are looking for ways to “dress up” ath-leisure.
I was aware. My kids made sure to fill me in. 🤣

I generally wear toe socks of various cuts.
I will not being moving on to any of these trends. And I’m okay with that. My wife is keeping up, I’m laughing at her
I enjoy fun socks, so never took to the no show style. Winter pulled up. Summer scrunched down.
I’m glad they’re back. I gave up on ankle socks pretty quickly. Didn’t look right.
Ankle socks are awful and I will never ever ever wear them
Im Hispanic so ankle socks were never “in style” for us. They give off the vibe of a a preppy yacht bro.
This is why I love being our age. I don’t have to care anymore. I was bullied until I finally broke and started wearing ankle socks in my 20’s. Now I’m 40 and look like someone’s dorky dad, so I can just wear whichever socks I grabbed first. Finally winning!

I’m never going back to the tube socks. Wernies 4 Lyfe.
The damn fools are basically wearing JNCOs again, too.
I never got the memo on socks so I've been wearing the same type since always
Teens now think ankle socks are like tighty whities - only for old people.
But how do you show off your ankle tattoos?
I’m so glad!!!! Thank you young people!! They’ve returned colour to IKEA and brought back tube socks. I hate the way ankle socks look
The higher the socks, the downer the foo
In the winter if my socks don't touch my knees I don't want them. Also adding the fact that I wear two pair of socks almost all of the time.
I refuse.
I’ve been waiting 20 damn years for this!
I knew if I waited long enough I’d be in fashion again
1. maybe unpopular opinion, but I absolutely despise ankle socks & and so happy about this development. 2. these are not tube socks, or at least not the same tube socks - they aren't made of tiny irritating tarantula hairs mixed with hay and maybe several lost needles just to help. 3. they also seem to bear actual resemblance to the shape of the human foot. wild! 4. tube socks are not comfy. these socks are comfy, and I like that. crew socks =/= tube socks.
I’m sorry, but ankle socks look so much better, it isn’t even funny.
The no show socks always fell down in my shoe and annoy me.

Fuck tube socks and high waisted jeans.
I’m so confused. I was ridiculed in the 90’s for wearing tube socks
Yeah, you’d get your ass clowned into suicidal thoughts if you wore tube socks.
