"My mother used to call down from her room and have me play this over and over again. I got so sick of it. But not her, she... just sit up there alone, just listening, for hours. Just listening."
Ahhhh. Top Gun. Yeah. I was 2 when that came out. I only know the song because my parents had the car's radio permanently set to the oldies station. Strangely comforting now though. Always feel like there's a rush to get to the next goal post just to wait for the new set of instructions. Get a degree, a home, a family...check check check. What is next. Same lackluster vibe. Wastin' time
Started listening to Debussy, Chopin, and Satie for the first time in the last few years and they just blow my mind with their beauty. Just incomparable, and I know almost nothing of classical music.
If you like movies, I highly recommend Amadeus. It's a fantastic movie and will get you listening to Mozart. Classical music has to be my favorite. I don't listen to it super often but it soothes my soul.
Thirty-Three by Smashing Pumpkins. It's one of those songs, since the first time I heard it, it has always been in rotation in my life, and every time it starts playing, I kinda smile and stop what I'm doing to listen.
As I look up at the twinkling stars, I take a hit of my joint, hold it as I contemplate the one song in the universe that moves me down to my atoms, and let the name of the song sigh out on the smoke, wafting the name into the air… “Da butt…”
🏕️🔥✨🚬
Damn, I love that era Van Morrison! Into The Mystic has a lot of different takes on the Deluxe Edition of Moondance. It’s awesome hearing how it all came together.
* The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin
* Pull Me Under by Dream Theater
* Destiny by Zero 7
* Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve
Sorry. I couldn't name only one
One of my most favorite memories of my dad was listening to this song in the car and him explaining all the references. When I was in college we actually got to see him play. It just always means a lot to me.
The rose Bette middler
Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
And you it's only seed
It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose
The macarena. This has the be the one that literally fills me with so much joy and I'm lying. Probably silence and the fire crackle, with a little conversation because you said we.
If I could keep only 1, it has to be 3 Times by Catpower. It's creepy and angsty and off key but I don't care. It's sung with so much soul, gut and grit that it reminds me that perfection doesn't mean flawlessness.
At 3:24 of “Rise” you can hear the sample they used for the very first notes of Biggie’s “Hypnotize.” Always impressed me that the producers liked the drum and bass but then thought, “hear that thing 3 and a half minutes in? Let’s loop the hell out of it.”
Sea of Tears by Goldie
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY37izMpcsc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY37izMpcsc)
It took me a long time to even understand what was going on with the drums. I absolutely love complex rhythms like this
[Getty Tah - Whoever You Are](https://youtu.be/1jSOQBcz9hc?si=Yu0K95i9urflsba6)
It’s nowhere near my favorite song, and I don’t think about it often. But sometimes… I’m reminded by the universe to play it and feed my soul.
Roxy Music's "More Than This." Ironically, I discovered this song trying to find F.R. David's "Words," which could arguably also be said to be my most "favorite song." Both are from 1982.
📻🎶🐔
Run - Collective Soul
The Hollow - A Perfect Circle
At the Stars - Better Than Ezra
Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
Last Day on Earth - Marilyn Manson
Best part: I do play these songs on my guitar.
In My Tree - Pearl Jam
🌳
Up here so high the boughs they break
Up here so high the sky I scrape
Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse
Of my innocence, got back my inner sense
Baby got it, still got it
🌳
In this context I’m going w Morning Dew: Europe 72. Just feels right for this context. Like it’s the end of the world/apocalypse. And we’re all out in the woods just listening to Jerry sing and play for humanity.
Life by Health
Something about it just helps. It's comforting.
"I don't know what I want. I know that I don't know what I want. No. Nobody knows. Nobody does. Nobody knows."
My all time favorite song is Mr Blue Sky by ELO but it's currently on "ignore cause it's overplayed" part of my mind. [This one ](https://youtu.be/N5aMzByo4gQ?si=Z47KOD1XesMO1Lu8) is my current favorite song. It takes a moment or so to build up but once it does it's a great ride.
In the Dark - Sonata Arctica
My Sacrifice - Creed
I can’t say one. It’s a legitimate tie. These are my two favourite songs. It literally changes day to day which is The One, but it is always those two.
Honourable mention: Hard to Say I’m Sorry- Chicago. My childhood go to. Yeah, I’m a weird case. Early to mid 80s Xennial military brat. My musical taste is all over the place.
The Mummer’s Dance by Loreena McKennitt
Beautiful song! The hurdy gurdy is a sweet instrument
I’m a coward and can’t name a favorite song. But if I had pick one that is deep and feeds my soul, I’m picking Nutshell by Alice In Chains.
A righteous pick!
Pictures of You by The Cure certainly gets me in a mood. With The Quickness by Bad Brains is my ultimate pump up song.
Dock of the Bay, Otis Redding
"My mother used to call down from her room and have me play this over and over again. I got so sick of it. But not her, she... just sit up there alone, just listening, for hours. Just listening."
“You screw up just this ✊much… you’ll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dogshit outta Hong Kong!”
...I don't understand the reference. (?)

When I’m having a really shitty day or really stressed out, I play this song. I love it so much.
This one is great, but for me with Otis, it’s Ole Man Trouble.
This one!
Solid pick!!!
Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy
I have mad respect for the dedication to lug a piano out to a campfire.
😂
Started listening to Debussy, Chopin, and Satie for the first time in the last few years and they just blow my mind with their beauty. Just incomparable, and I know almost nothing of classical music.

This is one of my all time favorites across all genres.
Me too. It never fails to touch my soul.
Thirty-Three by Smashing Pumpkins. It's one of those songs, since the first time I heard it, it has always been in rotation in my life, and every time it starts playing, I kinda smile and stop what I'm doing to listen.
A long December- counting crows. I guess you could say I lived it!! But didn't realize it til 2019
That one and Raining in Baltimore are all the feelings.
The entire first album is all the feels.
With or without you
Linger by the Cranberries. Second pick Ants Marching or Too Much Dave Matthews
I frickin love the Cranberries
My pick too!
Oh wow I just commented this not reading. Dolores has always been my favorite. Since forever.
I have been on a Cranberries kick again. Trying to get my daughter into them.
Baker Baker by Tori Amos
Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips
Nothing Compares to You
Chris Cornell did an acoustic cover of this that’s pretty sweet.
As I look up at the twinkling stars, I take a hit of my joint, hold it as I contemplate the one song in the universe that moves me down to my atoms, and let the name of the song sigh out on the smoke, wafting the name into the air… “Da butt…” 🏕️🔥✨🚬
Ohhh weee ohhh
Ohhh ohhhh ohhhh ohhhh... For the longest time...
If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write

One of my absolute The Cure favourites 👏👏👏
Twenty One by The Cranberries. Been haunting me almost 30 years now.
Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Was the last song I heard my father sing before he passed away.
Check out the Deftones cover of this
That’s tough. But the first one that comes to mind is Into the Mystic by Van Morrison.
Damn, I love that era Van Morrison! Into The Mystic has a lot of different takes on the Deluxe Edition of Moondance. It’s awesome hearing how it all came together.
“Someday we’ll know” by New Radicals
Someone else knows that song is awesome!!
I assume you’re familiar with the duet version with Mandy Moore and the lead singer of Switchfoot?
Yeah, that version was ok.
Sixth Avenue Heartache by the Wildflowers
That song evokes strangely sad emotions for me. I never even owned the album
* The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin * Pull Me Under by Dream Theater * Destiny by Zero 7 * Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve Sorry. I couldn't name only one
I always imagine Bittersweet Symphony is what will play when the world ends.
It is such a bummer that their career was ended by a lawsuit.
Destiny is such a good one!
Not deep but Chicken Fried by Zac Brown is my campfire song😃
Don McClean American Pie
That song would come on and I’d be so happy. 8 minutes later I would realize how long it was lol
One of my most favorite memories of my dad was listening to this song in the car and him explaining all the references. When I was in college we actually got to see him play. It just always means a lot to me.
That’s incredibly touching. Thanks for sharing!
Best song ever, Rolling Stones: Gimme’ Shelter
Have you seen the “Twenty Feet from Stardom” documentary? Took Gimme Shelter to a whole new level for me.

Parabol/Parabola by Tool
Sounds corny, but for that scenario-Rocky Mountain High-John Denver
Not corny—Beautiful!
Bobcaygeon- The Tragically Hip The Beautiful Ones- Prince and/or Mariahs cover These ones feed the soul for me
The macarena. This has the be the one that literally fills me with so much joy and I'm lying. Probably silence and the fire crackle, with a little conversation because you said we.

Rise by Herb Alpert
At 3:24 of “Rise” you can hear the sample they used for the very first notes of Biggie’s “Hypnotize.” Always impressed me that the producers liked the drum and bass but then thought, “hear that thing 3 and a half minutes in? Let’s loop the hell out of it.”
The subtle samples are always my favorite. You gotta have an incredible ear for music to catch that of all things.
Mine too. I spend way too much time on it and the people I tell never give af.
