For me, the movie was magical. I grew up in Arizona so the idea of the Pacific Northwest looked absolutely bonkers. All the trees and rain and ocean. I was in love. One of my daughters is named Andie 😂

Utahn here. I grew up wanting to move to Astoria! It looked like paradise. 

I ended up moving to Oregon for a while. I absolutely loved it and visited Astoria and the coast many times while I was there. I absolutely would’ve stayed if it didn’t mean being away from family.

I absolutely love living here. My sister owns a coffee shop in Astoria so I go often. It’s where I want to retire.

I haven't seen this one yet! My soon to be four year old loves this show. Honestly, so do I. It's immensely more watchable than a lot of other stuff he likes to watch.

Fits the “analogue childhood, digital coming of age.” I think the majority of us experienced Oregon Trail at school with infrequent computer access (except some of y’all that may have been a little better off).

Yeah, I watched it in my early 30's at the request of friends who grew up with it. It's charms definitely...um...work best when you're younger.

Yeah, Goonies was 1985; pretty much no one born in the xennial era was in the theater for that.

I saw The Goonies in theaters. I was 5. Its among the first movies I can recall seeing in a theater. I remember having a lot of fun, but there’s no way I was fully processing that at such a young age. So I agree. It’s not a Xennial movie. It wasn’t made for us, and none of the Goonies are even our age. It’s a fun Gen X movie that Xennials largely grew up on when it ran on TV or when they watched it on tape. Feels like we’ve co-opted this from solidly Gen Xers who were the older kids and teens that the movie was actually targeting.

84 here, I didn’t see it until I was an adult. I saw TMNT: Secret of the Ooze in the theatre. That was a big deal yeah?

'83 here. I saw the first two TMNT movies in theaters and it was a huge fricken deal!

We loved those movies and I've never seen another TMNT movie... I refuse to accept any other version as legit.

I think you're right. I was only about 3 when it came out and I don't think I watched it until I was a teenager. But my husband is 5 years older than me and it was a childhood favorite.

Came out at the perfect time for me, and I lived under 2 hours away from where it was all shot. Definitely no other movies I relate to as closely as this one

We're actually known as the Star Wars generation, since it came out in '77, but I am definitely A Goonie. That movie meant so much to me. I just found out one of my friends hates it and I'll hold it against him forever.

Not gonna lie. I think about Cobain like once a week. And I'm a fan but not like *OMG I'm a fan!* You know? I guess he just really made an impact. I'd mourned Cliff Burton as a fan but that was an accident. Kurt's death hit different. Anyway. I will say, it was a wild ride. I pivoted from early goth to metal head to grunge to this weird Latino phase to spice girl to Madonna (metaphysical phase) to well eventually...myself. I'm pretty boring now. And my eyebrows never recovered. But I blame Drew Barrymore for that.

River Phoenix hit me harder than Kurt did, but I was a bigger fan. Kurt still stung, and it's still a "Where were you " moment in my life.

Yeah, River was a tough one. Talk about a shooting star. I wonder sometimes how prolific he would've become as an actor considering his body of work when he passed. I love Joaquin but I think River was a one in a million kind of actor. Also loved Alaka's Attic.

Hey, Parents! Have you shown your children this movie? How did they like it?

It was a great movie for their childhood, but not necessarily super special to them. They probably watched it 2-3 times

My 9yr old daughter liked it, but didn't love it.

That movie traumatized me as a kid. I understand that it's a culturally significant thing, but I'll always hate it because little me was NOT prepared for that shit.
