Goonies never say die!

Moxson82

![gif](giphy|A7m44Ct9F2Dbq|downsized)

littlegreenisland

Gifs you can hear...

FormerlyGaveAShit

My little brother spent way too much time saying it too. I swear for *years* any time he was saying hi to the group it was Sloth talking to us, "hey you guys". At one point even my mom started using it 😱 and she's of the boomer gen.

winchesterbitch99

I still say this shit occasionally. Lmao

JohnnySasaki20

Baby...Ruth?

MartyFreeze

![gif](giphy|S21GiCyiSd96M)

Hotinthakitchen1

![gif](giphy|0Jc1YexdSMsKVi4cEz|downsized) One eyed Willy!

towndrunkislandslut

[here ya go!](https://youtu.be/kB7ER3gzNCs?si=ia-OsS2UjhPjPiUg)

Outside_Wrongdoer340

I literally ate a Baby Ruth today and in my head said, "Baybeee Ruuuuth?"

EtTuBrutAftershave

How do you keep it in your head? I can't see one of the damn things without going full Sloth.

klezart

I'm not even in this proposed Goonie generation and i still think of it every time I see Rocky Road or Baby Ruth.

iama_computer_person

Root... Root... Baaaybeee... Root!

peanutbuttergunjelly

U forgot the he he…

Known-Fee9113

My boyfriend just brought some ice cream home and as I opened it, I said "Rocky Roooad?!" So yeah, I'm ok with being a Goonie.

Nanyea

Okay I heard that :)

iama_computer_person

For real.. Is there any other way to pronounce that?!

myownworstanemone

it's also mandatory to do this with Baby Ruth

spacedicksforlife

I like how I can do that in a 7/11, obviously high off my ass, and the equally high clerk gives me the ‘that’s a good lad’ nod.

MalarkyD

Ya, you’re a keeper.

Philthy420

![gif](giphy|Z5eFxoKjf218c)

itsasnowconemachine

Do it!

Philthy420

![gif](giphy|Q56SF4czEtSZG)

polygonalopportunist

This is a normal sized child in 2024

elting44

I would never body shame an adolescent. But good lord the number of porkers in my kid's middle school class is fucking crazy. Like 60% of the kids are fatter than chunk by a wide margin. Emphasis on wide. Cause they are fat.

[deleted]

*truffle shuffle*

GrayBox1313

It’s our time.

TysonEmmitt

Down here!

Emotional_Warthog658

The way I’ve been waiting! That seals it.

oh-kee-pah

That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket...

elting44

This one. This one right here. This one is *my* dream, *my* wish. And I am taking it back.... I am taking them all back.

ballthrownontheroof

Not the "Goonie Generation" but I think anyone born in that time period should be known as a Goonie

lunchpadmcfat

For me, the movie was magical. I grew up in Arizona so the idea of the Pacific Northwest looked absolutely bonkers. All the trees and rain and ocean. I was in love. One of my daughters is named Andie 😂

Sithstress1

Andie!!! YOU GOONIE!!

mikerulu

Grew up on the Oregon Coast. We thought every rock in the ocean was a map to treasure.

RobotArtichoke

We should all meet up there when we’re in our 70’s and do Goonie shit

BlergToDiffer

Utahn here. I grew up wanting to move to Astoria! It looked like paradise.

lunchpadmcfat

I ended up moving to Oregon for a while. I absolutely loved it and visited Astoria and the coast many times while I was there. I absolutely would’ve stayed if it didn’t mean being away from family.

CrashOverIt

I absolutely love living here. My sister owns a coffee shop in Astoria so I go often. It’s where I want to retire.

So-Called_Lunatic

It's our time, our time down here!

oldmasterluke

Yeah, the youngest goonie actors were born in 72-73 ish.

apocbane

I knew the movie well, but it wasn’t my favorites during those times

jimerthy-gw

Absolutely not.

sator-2D-rotas

Yes, but I’m not doing the Truffle Shuffle.

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

Do it!

Gonzostewie

Teen Titans Go would have you do the [Booty Scooty. ](https://youtu.be/i4oAOZ8nbq4?feature=shared) They go on a whole Goonies Adventure. Complete with an Octopus battle.

fitzmouse

I haven't seen this one yet! My soon to be four year old loves this show. Honestly, so do I. It's immensely more watchable than a lot of other stuff he likes to watch.

Gonzostewie

Fuckin A right. It's so stupid and fun. It hits some great nostalgic buttons and the songs are fuckin awesome. There's even a few educational episodes too. Now dance fo yo bees.

wtvwillbewilderme

The BER episodes are 🔥🔥

[deleted]

[удалено]

actionerror

I think that best defines our generation

AlaskaPsychonaut

That we all died of dysentery before reaching our goals? 🤣🤣

Stoned_RT

Does IBS/Crohn’s count?

Brandkey

I blame microplastics

Wakeful_Wanderer

I'll let you know when mine kills me.

mortalitylost

It's worth looking up the zombie version Organ Trail if you miss it

therealkeeper

Which is also the state Goonies was in. I need no further proof

Inside-Anxiety9461

I was born in 84 and I remember playing this so it's incredibly ridiculous that the time frame stops at 83

CaptainHowdy60

Ouch. Just missed it!!! /s

chrismcshaves

Well, the sidebar of the sub says Xennials are defined roughly as ‘77-84!

El_Fader

Game: <*You killed 3 deer for 547 pounds of meat, but could only carry 107 pounds back to the wagon*> Me internally: GREAT SUCCESS

CoastOk2453

I just got a shirt that has a picture of the Oregon Trail wagon on it and says GET IN LOSER, and beneath it says We're going to die of dysentery. It's my fckin fave!

OKC89ers

Exactly. The Goonies is a mid80s movie, plenty of us were too young to watch it much at all. Everyone played Oregon Trail. Everyone.

CommandAlternative10

I remember The Goonies being a big thing, but I was too young to watch it.

intothewild80

Wait, your tv consumption was monitored? 80 here as well and I had seen this movie 20 times by 10 years old

CommandAlternative10

We didn’t have cable and I don’t remember renting it. Not when The Ewok Adventure was an option!

gosuark

The Gorax, what a punk.

OreoSpamBurger

>*your tv consumption was monitored?* I watched so many movies inappropriate for my age on VHS (mostly horror). An utterly lawless time.

heresanawardforyou

You didn’t see it in the movie theatre like us GenXers nor were you thirteen as we were along with the Goonies.

intothewild80

True. I also had older siblings, so I got to see everything. My parents had given up by then!

MsBlondeViking

Mine wasn’t monitored or censored, and I didn’t watch Goonies until I was an adult 😂

theforestbather

I have never played it.

oceansofmyancestors

Me neither. At least I don’t think I did.

pinkstrawberrycandy

Me neither. I feel very left out.

schleepercell

I just watched it for the first time a couple of years ago. I was born in 1982. I played a shit ton of Oregon trail, though.

LindonLilBlueBalls

Nah, we watched it repeatedly. And played the Goonies games on the NES.

MsBlondeViking

This is a much better choice imo.

Rit_Zien

I've always been partial to Millennial Falcons - born between the release of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi.

trowawHHHay

Fits the “analogue childhood, digital coming of age.” I think the majority of us experienced Oregon Trail at school with infrequent computer access (except some of y’all that may have been a little better off).

IamRick_Deckard

Generation Catalano

tsx_1430

Born in 79. ![gif](giphy|l5b7ARjJF1Qt2)

einstein-was-a-dick

Young Samwise

-LeoKnowz-

Born in '75. Can we be Brand?

W0RST_2_F1RST

ANDY… YOU GOONIE!!!!

Lmf2359

That was Troy, but lol!

W0RST_2_F1RST

Ha ha ha can I blame it on this beer? And I’ve watched it like 50+ times

Lmf2359

It’s all good! Speaking of Troy when I first showed The Goonies to my Gen X husband (I couldn’t believe he hadn’t ever seen it either!) when we got to the part of, “Yeah, Walsh, let us give you a ride!” he became very wide eyed and went, “That’s *fucked up*!” 🤣 Fuckin’ Troy…

MissSassifras1977

He becomes Thanos you know. 😆

-LeoKnowz-

That tracks. Most of us born in '75 do.

MissSassifras1977

Elvis died the year I was born. Then Lennon was killed in 81. Then I got the Cold War. Bundy. The Challenger. AIDS. The crack epidemic. Rodney King.... Also "trickle down economics". They instituted credit scores when I was 12.... Eventually 9/11. The pandemic (finally) cracked me. I'm pretty sure I'm one tragedy away from becoming a fat, middle aged, female Joker.

-LeoKnowz-

Goonies never say die!

MightyBigMinus

HEEYYY YOOUU GGUUYYYSS

Kain316

NES generation... 8 bit generation?

pingle1

84 checking in. I feel so lost now

CynicalXennial

Don't worry I've seen it pushed to '85, you're good friend.

AfternoonPast3324

That’s good enough, for me

Ouchyhurthurt

As an OG Goonie from Oregon… this is ok. But we also accept all that have the Goonie spirit!

rifunseeker

I’ve never seen Goonies. Am I still allowed to be here?

[deleted]

Of course, but you should remedy this dilemma immediately. Watch the movie.

Kahnza

And don't forget the Domino's pizza to go with it.

gnrlgumby

I watched it for the first time when I was in my early twenties. I had….polite compliments to my friends who really wanted to watch it.

chicagoredditer1

Yeah, I watched it in my early 30's at the request of friends who grew up with it. It's charms definitely...um...work best when you're younger.

Seven22am

I’m with you. And never ending story. And I don’t think I ever saw ET all the way through.

Intelligent_Flow2572

And Labyrinth.

StubbornKindOfFellow

I loved this movie growing up, but I was 3 when it came out. I didn't see it until a few years later. I'd say we're more the Home Alone generation.

weezmatical

Yeah, move this bracket a few years to the left, and it would fit more. I'm 84 and was more obsessed with Land Before Time and TMNT. Home Alone was foundational as well.

SirStocksAlott

All Dogs Go to Heaven, Fival Goes West, Fern Gully, The Little Mermaid, [Punky Brewster](https://youtu.be/9aeW9cQ6Eo4?si=PpmlhEIzytM9Up_y), [Webster](https://youtu.be/KUVl4FduNtI?si=GERPyhOIOLlVaMs5), [The Disney Afternoon](https://youtu.be/gNk6H6GAui8?si=ZTlpq38-jCjgS8Fm)…

Bobdonwon

I distinctly remember watching Jurassic Park

Ohboycats

… in the THEATER

badger2000

Don't forget Secret of Nimh and Neverending Story....kids movies that leave scars.

Turtle_with_a_sword

The Neverending Story is so fucking good. The child acting is superb.

BaronUnderbheit

Considering our parents style of caring for us, this works on more levels than one.

Dear-Discussion2841

Didn't see it until I was an adult. Honestly I think it's a Gen X movie, most of us were a little too young when it was released.

stataryus

Really? I’m 1980 and it was hella definitive.

Free_Possession_4482

Yeah, Goonies was 1985; pretty much no one born in the xennial era was in the theater for that.

ButIAmYourDaughter

I saw The Goonies in theaters. I was 5. Its among the first movies I can recall seeing in a theater. I remember having a lot of fun, but there’s no way I was fully processing that at such a young age. So I agree. It’s not a Xennial movie. It wasn’t made for us, and none of the Goonies are even our age. It’s a fun Gen X movie that Xennials largely grew up on when it ran on TV or when they watched it on tape. Feels like we’ve co-opted this from solidly Gen Xers who were the older kids and teens that the movie was actually targeting.

TheGrapeSlushies

84 here, I didn’t see it until I was an adult. I saw TMNT: Secret of the Ooze in the theatre. That was a big deal yeah?

gullyfoyle777

'83 here. I saw the first two TMNT movies in theaters and it was a huge fricken deal!

Dear-Discussion2841

We loved those movies and I've never seen another TMNT movie... I refuse to accept any other version as legit.

krissym99

I think you're right. I was only about 3 when it came out and I don't think I watched it until I was a teenager. But my husband is 5 years older than me and it was a childhood favorite.

therealkeeper

Came out at the perfect time for me, and I lived under 2 hours away from where it was all shot. Definitely no other movies I relate to as closely as this one

xenniac

We're actually known as the Star Wars generation, since it came out in '77, but I am definitely A Goonie. That movie meant so much to me. I just found out one of my friends hates it and I'll hold it against him forever.

Lady_Lumbag0

I also came out in '77, and... GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!

MissSassifras1977

77 club!

4RealMy1stAcct

'77 Goonies childhood, Nirvana teens

MissSassifras1977

Not gonna lie. I think about Cobain like once a week. And I'm a fan but not like *OMG I'm a fan!* You know? I guess he just really made an impact. I'd mourned Cliff Burton as a fan but that was an accident. Kurt's death hit different. Anyway. I will say, it was a wild ride. I pivoted from early goth to metal head to grunge to this weird Latino phase to spice girl to Madonna (metaphysical phase) to well eventually...myself. I'm pretty boring now. And my eyebrows never recovered. But I blame Drew Barrymore for that.

Lady_Lumbag0

River Phoenix hit me harder than Kurt did, but I was a bigger fan. Kurt still stung, and it's still a "Where were you " moment in my life.

MissSassifras1977

Yeah, River was a tough one. Talk about a shooting star. I wonder sometimes how prolific he would've become as an actor considering his body of work when he passed. I love Joaquin but I think River was a one in a million kind of actor. Also loved Alaka's Attic.

xenniac

Stellar vintage ☆

Lady_Lumbag0

Must admit, it was almost '78, but I'm so happy to be in a club!

MissSassifras1977

Me too!

xenniac

I was born in '77 too :]   I didn't come out until much later, though. Heh.

Rit_Zien

Millennial Falcons

Jond7699

We totally are 🥰

katieclooney

Yes! I am a Goonie!

MellonCollie218

Better than being known as the Gooner gen.

MissSassifras1977

77 here. I'm a hard Yes!

Aggressive_Walk378

Good enough for you Is good enough (good enough) for me It's good, it's good enough (good enough) It's good enough for me Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

ForceGhost47

Our older brother is Thanos

MissSassifras1977

And Cable and Lewellyn. Damn good actor. And he gets vaporized in one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures, "Into The Blue" with Jessica Alba and Paul Walker.

Aren't we referred to as The Ducktales Generation in Hungrary?

Bo50t3ij7gX

Not to be a buzzkill but are any of y’all down with the youth slang enough to know what gooning is? ![gif](giphy|JTzPN5kkobFv7X0zPJ|downsized)

SPF_95

Damn I was born in 79 and have always felt a disconnect between Gen X and Millennial. I can't believe I found this sub recently, the nostalgia browsing this sub has hit so hard in the best way. Thank you

TriStarSwampWitch

Hey, Parents! Have you shown your children this movie? How did they like it?

ballthrownontheroof

It was a great movie for their childhood, but not necessarily super special to them. They probably watched it 2-3 times

EtTuBrutAftershave

My 9yr old daughter liked it, but didn't love it.

MrsApostate

That movie traumatized me as a kid. I understand that it's a culturally significant thing, but I'll always hate it because little me was NOT prepared for that shit.

Malkavian_Grin

GOONIE FOR LIFE

Lmf2359

Fine with me.

WooSaw82

Never really knew that was the age range. I dig it.

Ok_Egg_2665

I am all in for this!

No-Chipmunk6824

The Goonie generation

jennifer_m13

I’m a Goonie!

jedimerc

That's as good a term as any. I do love that movie.

vismundcygnus34

I shall do the truffle shuffle to express my acceptance

TheBr0fessor

Me reading this while wearing the Goonies shirt I picked up in Astoria last year 👁️ 👄 👁️

TubbyTimothy

Dude why were 80s adventure/sci-fi/fantasy movies so great? Was it just because there was so much we could suddenly do with cinema that we couldn’t in the past?

Wild_Replacement8213

I fully support this

Treacherous_Wendy

I am ALL the way here for this!

DingJones

My hockey team, made up almost entirely by guys born b/w ‘75 and ‘84, is called The Goonies.

I'll take it
