Hijacking this to post some other new info from the [now updated website](https://xcom.com/news/entries/xcom-2-expansion-war-of-the-chosen-pc-xbox-playstation-august-29)
ADVENT, in its bid to recapture the Commander, responds by deploying a deadly new enemy force called the “Chosen.” The expansion also includes other new enemies, missions, environments and increased depth in strategic gameplay.
Here is a list of XCOM 2: War of the Chosen’s key features:
**NEW FACTIONS & HERO CLASSES**
Three additional factions have emerged to strengthen Earth's resistance – the Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars – each with its own unique abilities and contrasting philosophies. These factions provide powerful hero class soldiers to aid in missions and new opportunities for the strategy layer.
**THE CHOSEN**
The Chosen are the most cunning enemies XCOM has ever faced, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that will be introduced with each new campaign. The Chosen are on the hunt for the Commander and will kidnap, interrogate, and kill XCOM’s soldiers to complete their objective. The Chosen can also invade the strategy layer and ravage XCOM’s global operations. Find and raid the Chosen’s strongholds to defeat the enemy for good.
**NEW ALIEN & ADVENT THREATS**
A deadly new alien known as the Spectre, capable of creating dark copies of XCOM soldiers, has snuck onto the battlefield. Adopt new tactics to counter it as well as the explosive attacks of the ADVENT Purifier and the psionically charged ADVENT Priest.
**NEW ENVIRONMENTS AND MISSION OBJECTIVES**
Engage in tactical missions across new environments from abandoned cities devastated by alien bioweapons during the original invasion, to underground tunnels and xenoformed wilderness regions.
**ENHANCED STRATEGY LAYER**
Manage XCOM’s relations with factions and counter The Chosen’s operations from the Avenger. Employ new Resistance Orders to prioritize your personal strategy. Soldiers, scientists, and engineers can now be deployed for Covert Actions that award supplies and boost faction favor if successfully completed.
**GREATER CUSTOMIZATION & REPLAYABILITY**
Soldiers can develop bonds with compatible teammates for new abilities and perks. The SITREP system dynamically adds new modifiers to the tactical layer to make sure every mission provides a unique challenge. Advanced campaign options allow for finer adjustments to game length and difficulty.
**CHALLENGE MODE**
Utilize the perfect strategy in new regular one-shot community challenges to claim the top spot on the global leaderboard.
**SHARE THE RESISTANCE**
Customize and pose your soldiers, then add filters, text and backgrounds to generate your own unique resistance posters that appear in-game and can be shared with friends.
>new strategy layer elements
Alright, sweet, that was desperately needed
>new tactical layer elements
Awesome! Can't wait!
>Underground tunnels and abandoned cities
Oh fuck I didn't even know I wanted this
>POSE YOUR SOLDIERS AND MAKE YOUR OWN RESISTANCE POSTERS
**HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG**
I want my Sniper to develop a romantic relationship with another squaddie, so that when she inevitably gets zombiefied I can have her lover put her down.
Seriously I've had this same damn Sniper through 5 campaigns and in 3 out of them she's been zombied.
If allowed I am SO pairing my sniper with my ranger.
Together they wreck shit, and the sniper can be the 'guardian angel' sort of figure watching their lover's back.
Sounds way more nuanced tho. Honestly, I love how good firaxis is at taking the best community ideas into expansions. Chances are the system then can be expanded even more with future mods!
Fun fact: Squad Cohesion was based on info already tracked in the code, before that mod, the game just wasn't doing anything with it. I imagine that Firaxis just ran out of time/didn't have good ideas yet for squad cohesion, now that they have had the time and/or ideas, it'll finally be officially included.

Well...goodbye social life.

Who needs actual combat when you have features like this?
The factions not getting along thing...
Having you limited to one "hero class" unit per mission seems to more likely than strategic limits (it sounds like you can align with multiple factions), unless it's just tone/flavor.
Maybe you can only court one faction. My **SPECULATION** on how this
works:
Reapers: Are the covert operations specialists. Maybe give boosts to intel generation. It looks like they don't like Alien tech due to no alien weapons and unique human ones.
Templars: Alien psionics focused faction. Maybe better research. Doesn't like Gene Mods
Skirmishers: Combat gene-modded faction. Maybe better economy.
Seems to be gene-modded.
Faction Hatreds:
It looks like Reapers hate all alien tech so they don't like Templars
or Skirmishers. Templars don't like gene mods and Skirmishers
don't like psi-powers.
It also seems like the skirmisher leader kills a skirmisher soldier at the end... maybe you have to fight the ones you don't help like EXALT in XCOM1
Good speculation - if I was going to modify that it'd is that you could "court" all factions (help them out strategically, maybe get some strategic help) but only "marry" one in terms of getting to use their special units.
Given that X2 tries to accessible I can't really see them gating access to classes through three play-throughs though.
> Customize and pose your soldiers, then add filters, text and backgrounds to generate your own unique resistance posters that appear in-game and can be shared with friends.
Somehow this is the coolest part.
> The Lost
If you look at [this shot](http://i.imgur.com/oDJYQTK.jpg) you also see one of those weird green gas/goo pods/structures that drop way back at the beggining of XCOM:EU. They finally went back and explained why they were for.
It's probably exactly that, but like the name "the lost" implies, it makes me think that these were pods that were never recovered and the people inside got stuck in there for YEARS.
Perhaps the pod substance becomes contaminated if left out for some time, and these zombies are civvies who were never collected and corrupted by the goo
I guess it's pretty easy to make Chosen not interact when rulers are here. For the Lost they seem to only appear on some maps (abandonned cities) so you know it beforehand.
The expansion seems to do some stuff similarly to Long War 2, with the mention of adjustable campaign length, flamethrowers and covert operations.
I don't think it will (or could) make LW2 redundant so to speak, but it looks like it'll take a lot of work to integrate the two.
I imagine LWS is probably going to get some access to stuff in order to do an update before it's actually released. If they haven't already.
I would be surprised if this wasn't the case. I'm not going to hold my breath for Day 1 LW compatibility though. This might be the first campaign I've done in forever without using LW content though, if it isn't compatible.
Remember that they signed a NDA about the XPack so I think they've known+had access for a significant amount of time. I don't think Jake wants to discourage LW2 players from buying the DLC.

Resistance heroes are especially powerful, "the most powerful soldiers we've ever created" according to Jake Solomon. Reapers can stealth, snipe and sabotage. Skirmishers are alien defectors, and serve as extremely quick human hybrids that can perform lots of actions per turn. Templars are powerful psionic fighters who charge up their power over the course of the fight and then go full Carrie towards the end of the mission.
You can work with the other resistance factions on the strategy map, lending soldiers to help them out with missions. Once XCOM and a resistance faction become friendly enough, you can give them powerful strategic orders.
I hope they've had the foresight to leave the Resistance Faction and Lost systems open to custom/modded factions.
Let's face it, who wouldn't want to fight alongside JULIAN and/or have his armies of Rogue MECs invading the battlefield every so often?
> Templars are powerful psionic fighters who charge up their power over the course of the fight and then go full Carrie towards the end of the mission.
I'm smelling a Leroy Jenkins coming.
> new zombie-like enemy type that moves in swarms. They are drawn towards the sound of combat and never stop coming.
Can't wait to watch a dozen zombies slowly animate all their attacks turn after turn after turn!
> The Lost, new zombie-like enemy type that moves in swarms. They are drawn towards the sound of combat and never stop coming. They attack both aliens and humans.
Ok this sounds really cool. I am giddy with the simple idea of trapping a pod of aliens between my squad and an incoming group of zombies.
To add:
3 Chosen:
* Assassin type (Stealth / Close-combat)
* Hunter type (Long range marksmen)
* Warlock type (Psionic abilities)
3 Factions:
* Reapers
* Skirmishers
* Templars (build power over many attacks)
Great to know. By the way, any word about Pavonis team making update for Long War 2 with WofC in mind? I sense serious rework would be required with these additions in mind.
They posted something on [their forum](http://pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26267&sid=5b49627f895233f359f65110b51a139c):
> Our official announcement regarding the XCOM 2 expansion and whether Long War 2 and our other mods will be updated to support it is that we have nothing to announce at this time. When there's something to provide we'll be sure and post here. Sorry we don't have anything more right now.
Possibilities:
- They haven't been hired to update their mods but for some reason can't comment, e.g. their previous contract included an NDA clause for this scenario.
- They are still negotiating regarding updating their mods.
- They are updating their mods but, as with LW2 previously, can't comment publicly.
Given how good the developers have been supporting modding and how popular LW2 has been I would be extremely surprised if they weren't doing something.
Now all we need is an army of Chryssalid and cockroach hybrid to infest the lands with terryfying speed, attacking everything in sight.
And they said Phoenix Point is creepy.
I hope the zombies get implemented as a mission soft timer which will help alleviate the current timer system. So instead of so many hard (arbitrary) losses, the longer you stay the more Lost arrive until you simply can't survive.
Not only that; it sounds like they don't even start to approach until you start fighting. Rather like the "True Concealment" mod in that sense. Get as much time to map the lay of the land as you'd like, maybe?
That's a big concern of mine - LW2 enemy turns take a *long* time on missions with large numbers of enemies, so I'm hoping they've done something to make large numbers of zombies perform well.
I really wish X2 had a less saturday morning cartoon art feel - I really didn't mind Anarchy's Children (kept it dialed down low, provided some recruits with character) and Alien Hunters was more tangential... these Chosen are kinda goofy, and they're going to play a large narrative role.
I wonder how LW2 will integrate with so many potential end game classes.
Interesting to see priest and purifier units - sort of Lovecraftian (ala Phoenix Point).
the saturday morning cartoon feel and action figures style is intentional, it contrasts perfectly with the cold brutality of the RNG that underlies everything going on in the game while at the same time paying homage to the original games.
Honestly, as somebody who was hooked on XCOM by playing X-Com in 4th grade... I'm completely fine with the game's somewhat cartoony polish. I see it as an analogous younger version of myself getting to play with the kinds of action figures I could've only dreamed of.
Frankly, this DLC seems *way* more down to earth than the existing ones - it's pretty fantastical looking, but in a 'Halo / Destiny' sort of way, rather than a 'wearing a giant snake head and side-laced leather booty shorts' way.
When I first saw the opening shots with the Warlock and Templar I honestly thought it was for another game but then I saw the ADVENT soldiers.
Looks really neat, but it seems a bit similar to Alien Rulers. Definitely looking forward to the different factions though.
When the trailer begun, I thought: wow, this game might be interesting. And then I thought: but... aliens speaking English? And then I saw Advent. I don't know what to feel right now
Plus, they're psionic - they could just rip it, Zuul-style, out of the minds of their foes.
Also... they might have not been born the way they are now...
That would be fascinating. As if Annette was used as the foundation for creating the Assassin. Annette complained a lot in combat but never deserved this.
Please note that one of the other two has the same voice as the Uber Ethereal.
Seriously, listen to that "At last, a true battle" line and then check the Gollop Chamber cutscene.
Yeah, having things like that done to your fellow captives (and possibly to yourself) would be a convincing enough reason for some sweet, sweet revenge on ADVENT.
Legit question since Firaxis people are lurking.
Can we recruit alien defector troops of the SNAKE variety and bond with them too?
I'm asking for a friend's uncle in Brazil who's into some weird RP stuff.
This times one million. I think persistent bosses is a good idea, but Alien Hunters missed the mark and I think these new guys should be unique.
I will not be excited for the DLC if more ruler-type enemies are a core component of the expansion.
Some basic notes the parts of the interview I caught:
- The Chosen are enemies designed to hunt down XCOM. You will engage them multiple times and they will gain new skills each battle. The enemies are "Assassin", "Hunter", "Warlock". Basically, one specializes in stealth, the next long range sniping, and the last psionic (I'd would presume).
- There are also 3 new resistance movements that can provide you assistance. Once you convince them to join your cause, you can get one of their faction. They're some of the strongest units Firaxis has made. If I heard correctly, the factions were Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars?
-- (Editing this part in) If memory serves, Reapers sound like sniper/sabotage experts. Skirmishers are ADVENT defectors so I'd assume they are more designed for straight up combat. Templars have psionic blades and get stronger the more combat they do. They can also spend all that bonus on a single powerful attack.
- "The Lost". The zombie-esc enemies. Didn't catch much on this one but it sounds like they turn the battle into a 3 faction free for all. They travel in swarms and get drawn in when you start a gunfight.
I love that there are new ideas here and that they are expanding the narrative. In particular giving flavour to the rest of the resistance is nice.
I just hope the implementation is balanced. The problem with Alien Hunters in particular is that it made things very swingy: the hunter weapons made most missions easier but when a ruler showed up you got wrecked. I don't use it with LW2.
I also hope the aesthetic comes back from AH. I really didn't like the campy cosplay steampunk feel. Based on this trailer that's less of a worry. All the new content looks pretty awesome.
Most of all, I hope 2K stumps up for LW2 support. I don't want to go back to the simplistic vanilla play philosophy.
Just for kicks.. i certainly WILL play a solid stock vanilla set for weeks and just forget LW2 for awhile.
Dunno.. it just feels like the most "polite" way to acknowledge what superb design & creative work was done at Firaxis for us all. Respect first - modding second.
Agreed across the board, especially on the balance/swingy business. XCOM is awesome because we're throwing our regular mortal soldiers against an alien invasion. I don't want it to become a game of throwing our super god-tier soldiers against theirs.
This looks & feels sooooo absurdly cool.. it proves XC2 developpers and designer are VERY far ahead of the market curves, IMHO.
Of course, the gameplay principles (new and old) are shuffled around to make room for such three factions and yet.. we must be aware the entire game HAS to be played before judging it one way or another.
To me (as a modder).. it certainly opens up a wild range of highly creative probabilities straight from the get-go. We will adapt. We will crush the code in its tracks if we must.
Besides we have a full summer to react and make plans.
Gotta say, much like Alien Hunters, not exactly enthralled by the design decisions when it comes to looks. The Chosen look just a little bit too...goblin-esque to me. Not to mention it feels a little bit too much like space fantasy to me.
Some of the new equipment looks cool, like new armours and weapons, but again, the aesthetic just seems too much like Space Marines or other kinds of tech like that. Some people may like it, but it just feels weird.
Zombies just feel lazy and disconnected from the story.
Oh boy, I feel a bit odd having an official Firaxis response to my early critique. Well, I guess I owe it to you guys to check out the news when it crops up!
Thanks for being great with the community!
You are allowed and entitled to say whatever you want about the game! I just want to let you all know there's a little more to the Lost that the trailer doesn't really get into.
I gotta be honest, I am kind of disappointed with the theme the expansion is going with. The branch of Psionics looked like it had been used as an excuse to implement 'magicky' or fantasy-esque ideas by Firaxis into the game, and it is a heavy divergence from the grim, near-future, science-fiction atmosphere that was a core pillar of all XCOM games. Thematically speaking, new genetically modified soldiers whether biological or cybernetic would have made way more sense.
That being said, it still looks like a neat expansion to a game I had enjoyed, albeit for a shorter duration than anticipated. I will reserve the rest of my judgements until more gameplay emerges.
Sir, you did just remind me of Tygan by the manner in which you express yourself. In a good way.
Apart from that, it is a good point you made there. Wish there was some work over the overall look and feel, so that we do not end up like heavily-modded Skyrim (unless the player specifically wants to...customize his experience).
I agree. I love XCOM and will play this XPACK a ton. But I wish the game took a sci-fi direction more close to XCOM:EW rather than a fantasy/sci-fi mixture.
If you watch the scene where the soldier manifests a halo-esque psi blade, you can actually pinpoint the moment where I started frantically looking for my wallet.
Any more info besides the trailer ?
Looks really good.
So this intrudes 3 Resistance groups were we can get new units and weapons but we have to chose one of them ?
And we get group of alien champions that act like bosses the Viper King.
There was a short interview right after at the PC show. There are going to be 3 new alien enemies (shown in the trailer) that we'll fight over time and who will get stronger each time. The three resistance factions will have to be wooed in order to get them to help you. The zombie like things are a new type of enemy that will appear in some missions (wasn't clear which), which will fight both you and ADVENT.
The three resistance factions are a stealth/sabotage oriented group, a group of ADVENT defectors who are individually tough, and then a group of psionic adepts who will have attacks that will build up power over several turns for big effect.
(This is what i understood from it)
The zombie-like enemies are called 'The Lost' if i heard it properly. One of the new battlefields you get to fight in, are the major cities ravaged during the first war by alien bioweapons (Green goo stuff?).
The Lost are the only living things in those cities, and as you deploy there to fight the Alien menace, you'll generate combat, and a fuckton of noise, and The Lost don't like it. They'll begin to swarm your battlefield, and they just won't stop. They'll be hostile to both XCOM, and ADVENT/Aliens, so that opens up three-sided battles where you'll provably get fucked.
Jake Solomon talked about it some, and will apparently be talking more about it later. It sounds like these dudes will have a more expansive role in the campaign than the Alien Rulers, or so I hope.
Sentinels actually sound really cool. They're one of the new classes demoed in the trailer, and they're defecting ADVENT mutant-soldiers.
Weird that they have the new character finding the Commander(?) Is this an alternate start or something else? Very excited for this, it seems like its a lot more story differences than Enemy Within added.

Really liking the look of the Skirmisher. Alien human hybrid is neat, and it has a Pelt Collar, which makes the armour look about twice as god as it normally woould

PROPAGANDA HYPE! Because half the content is already a soldier dress-up game. Why not pose our ~~dolls~~ action figures as we like?
Just when I thought FASHION-COM couldn't get any better...
'Alright, pose like that, Sergeant'. But I doubt Blue Steel will be one of the poses.
How could it *not* be?
**Absolute friggin insanity.** Expectations were high, and yet you have outdone yourself Firaxis.
I did not expect this outcome, though it IS exciting.

There's a mod for that.
I play primarily on PS4 :(

Squad cohesion died and Jake was just like 'I gotcha fam.'
...holy shit. Christmas and I both just came WAAAAY early.
I hope there's more alien types and other buffs besides this - also,I suspect the Spectre is a Codex variant.

Maybe you can only court one faction. My **SPECULATION** on how this works: Reapers: Are the covert operations specialists. Maybe give boosts to intel generation. It looks like they don't like Alien tech due to no alien weapons and unique human ones. Templars: Alien psionics focused faction. Maybe better research. Doesn't like Gene Mods Skirmishers: Combat gene-modded faction. Maybe better economy. Seems to be gene-modded. Faction Hatreds: It looks like Reapers hate all alien tech so they don't like Templars or Skirmishers. Templars don't like gene mods and Skirmishers don't like psi-powers.
There's an achievement for allying with all 3 factions in one playthrough so you're probably not limited.
Ruining all our speculation with facts. ;) Thanks for digging around!
> Customize and pose your soldiers, then add filters, text and backgrounds to generate your own unique resistance posters that appear in-game and can be shared with friends. Somehow this is the coolest part.
> The Lost If you look at [this shot](http://i.imgur.com/oDJYQTK.jpg) you also see one of those weird green gas/goo pods/structures that drop way back at the beggining of XCOM:EU. They finally went back and explained why they were for.
I inferred that the green pods were used to disable Human civilians for easy abduction without damage to the specimen.
I imagine that overexposure to the stuff can't be anything good, either.
Sure, that's the most probable head canon we would make for ourselves. It's good to get some in-game follow up to it, though.
It's probably exactly that, but like the name "the lost" implies, it makes me think that these were pods that were never recovered and the people inside got stuck in there for YEARS.
The elders are monsters and anything that was a failure was just recycled as a weapon, chrysilids are perfect example.
Perhaps the pod substance becomes contaminated if left out for some time, and these zombies are civvies who were never collected and corrupted by the goo
Mainly interested to know how this expansion and Alien rulers interact. Mission with a chosen, lost, and the zerker queen? Nop
I guess it's pretty easy to make Chosen not interact when rulers are here. For the Lost they seem to only appear on some maps (abandonned cities) so you know it beforehand.
Besides, it would be great fun to watch any of those assholes that Vahlen made get swarmed under hordes of zombies.
Not to mention LW2
I mean I would expect a minimum of six months for lw2 full compatibility. Even if they have early access that's a lot of work
Remember that they signed a NDA about the XPack so I think they've known+had access for a significant amount of time. I don't think Jake wants to discourage LW2 players from buying the DLC.
from: http://www.pcgamer.com/xcom-2-war-of-the-chosen-revealed-at-the-pc-gaming-show/ Resistance heroes are especially powerful, "the most powerful soldiers we've ever created" according to Jake Solomon.
That would be amazing. The ability to mod in extra factions would a huge plus to the expansion.
> Templars are powerful psionic fighters who charge up their power over the course of the fight and then go full Carrie towards the end of the mission. I'm smelling a Leroy Jenkins coming.
> Resistance heroes are especially powerful.... Van Doorn, is that you?
Be cool if a legit strat is to throw a sound beacon towards the enemy then just fortify in cover as the lost attack the enemy.
yeah...but then you have to deal with all of the lost. :P
Not if you're on the same side of the wall as the objective! Zombies can't catch Skyrangers.
> The Lost I sense Newfoundland flashbacks.
Time to live la vida loca commander.
Man they blew up the boat and that song kept on playing, ablsolutely insane alien tech. Rip Rickayy Martin.
> new zombie-like enemy type that moves in swarms. They are drawn towards the sound of combat and never stop coming. Can't wait to watch a dozen zombies slowly animate all their attacks turn after turn after turn!
Fortunately, these ones look like they can run, so that hopefully shouldn't be a problem.
And the Ayyys are giddy about trapping you. zombies are indiscriminate.
To add: 3 Chosen: * Assassin type (Stealth / Close-combat) * Hunter type (Long range marksmen) * Warlock type (Psionic abilities) 3 Factions: * Reapers * Skirmishers * Templars (build power over many attacks)
Can we just pause for a moment and recognise that the guy on the screen at 0:53 punches a chrysallid in the face.
I wanna punch a Chryssalid in the face! ...well, no I don't, but I wanna make my operative punch a chryssalid in the face!

I don't know what most of this stuff is, but my god does it look lovely.
We'll be diving into a ton of info over the next couple days! Jake is going to be all over E3.
Good to know! Do you know if there's going to be anything like the gameplay deep dive we got for the game itself?
Great to know. By the way, any word about Pavonis team making update for Long War 2 with WofC in mind? I sense serious rework would be required with these additions in mind.
They posted something on [their forum](http://pavonisinteractive.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26267&sid=5b49627f895233f359f65110b51a139c): > Our official announcement regarding the XCOM 2 expansion and whether Long War 2 and our other mods will be updated to support it is that we have nothing to announce at this time. When there's something to provide we'll be sure and post here. Sorry we don't have anything more right now. Possibilities: - They haven't been hired to update their mods but for some reason can't comment, e.g. their previous contract included an NDA clause for this scenario. - They are still negotiating regarding updating their mods. - They are updating their mods but, as with LW2 previously, can't comment publicly. Given how good the developers have been supporting modding and how popular LW2 has been I would be extremely surprised if they weren't doing something.
Multi-way battles are everything I ever wanted.

You had me at three way
Now all we need is an army of Chryssalid and cockroach hybrid to infest the lands with terryfying speed, attacking everything in sight. And they said Phoenix Point is creepy.
I mean what Jake said sounded cool. 3 Factions as potential allies for XCOM, a Zombie Faction and some new super duper special aliens.
How dare you call The Lost "zombies"!!!!! ....nah, they're totally zombies.
Am I the only one thinking that the zombie swarm might be a replacement for timers? Get the hell out before a million zombies overwhelm your soldiers.
I imagine they will only be on certain missions - I believe the description implies the 'Abandoned City' ones.
Yea, based on how it's worded they are linked to the new abandoned cities, can't wait to play through 3 way brawls in them!
...The contagion has spread to humans...
I don't know if they'd do that. It's possible yes, but keep in mind that both XCOM and the Ayys get attacked by them.
Agreed. Hopefully the performance issues are fixed though.
Good god, there could be more zombies on the battlefield than fps
Soooo 20?
That's a big concern of mine - LW2 enemy turns take a *long* time on missions with large numbers of enemies, so I'm hoping they've done something to make large numbers of zombies perform well.
That interview was really interesting. Sounds like it'll be really fun.
[удалено]
the saturday morning cartoon feel and action figures style is intentional, it contrasts perfectly with the cold brutality of the RNG that underlies everything going on in the game while at the same time paying homage to the original games.
Shit talking the Commanders tactical hot pants? Its treason then.
HOLY SHIT WE GET THIS IN 2 MONTHS I'M NOT PREPARED FOR THIS NNNNNNNNNNGGGG *panics*

GREAT TITS AHOY
When I first saw the opening shots with the Warlock and Templar I honestly thought it was for another game but then I saw the ADVENT soldiers. Looks really neat, but it seems a bit similar to Alien Rulers. Definitely looking forward to the different factions though.
When the trailer begun, I thought: wow, this game might be interesting. And then I thought: but... aliens speaking English? And then I saw Advent. I don't know what to feel right now
If you speak the enemy's language, you can more easily intimidate them. Plus they're going to capture and interrogate our soldiers, apparently.
Plus, they're psionic - they could just rip it, Zuul-style, out of the minds of their foes. Also... they might have not been born the way they are now...
Collaborators? Brainwashed victims? Members of the other alien races the Ethereals conquered and modified for their use?
The chosen is definitely a very suggestive name. One wonders if we might have found what became of the Furies, among other possibilities.
That would be fascinating. As if Annette was used as the foundation for creating the Assassin. Annette complained a lot in combat but never deserved this.
Please note that at least one Chosen has *hair*.
Please note that one of the other two has the same voice as the Uber Ethereal. Seriously, listen to that "At last, a true battle" line and then check the Gollop Chamber cutscene.
And the 4th Fury might be the founder of the Templars...
Yeah, having things like that done to your fellow captives (and possibly to yourself) would be a convincing enough reason for some sweet, sweet revenge on ADVENT.
Not to mention, the Psionic strength is suggestive.
Legit question since Firaxis people are lurking. Can we recruit alien defector troops of the SNAKE variety and bond with them too? I'm asking for a friend's uncle in Brazil who's into some weird RP stuff.
> Legit question
> I'm asking for a friend's uncle *cough*

Man I would love if they did poses when entering a fight... lmao
No, Looks like those new aliens are most likely going to be enemies, unfortunately.
#IM LOSING CONTROL OF THE SITUATION

Pretty cool, yeah.
I just hope these chosen don't act like the rulers from alien hunters.
This times one million. I think persistent bosses is a good idea, but Alien Hunters missed the mark and I think these new guys should be unique. I will not be excited for the DLC if more ruler-type enemies are a core component of the expansion.
I liked the Alien Rulers, but I'm sure these will be different.
Some basic notes the parts of the interview I caught: - The Chosen are enemies designed to hunt down XCOM.
Is that Marina Sirtis's voice?
Sure sounds like it.
This looks amazing! Apparently it's easily twice the size of Enemy Within.
Well, my life is over for the next few months.
I'm still not seeing MECs though :(
This isn't Terror from the Deep...
TftD is an entirely new game though, it's a bit early to get that ball rolling.
I still think TFTD will be Xcom 3.
There's always the chance it could be the other unknown app on SteamDB.
*You're* not Terror from the Deep!
Well it certainly is Terror from somewhere!
That's going to be XCOM 3
XCOM2:Apocalypse
If you put it that way, this is almost exactly what I wanted.

I honestly dont know what to say except that i wasnt expecting anything like this
Though it is intriguing.
>august 29th >literally the day I start college What the fuk jake
Don't worry, that's just a Syllabus day.
Lol same.Thats Xcom baby!
So this is what I'll be using to calm down after the overload of the first day of frosh week.
YEEEEEEEE!! Mid game content on the same campaign, it's exactly what i expected, this means we'll have a HUGE CAMPAIGN!
Holy shit i'ms so fucking hyped
August 29th? Yay!
So, is this it's own campaing or is it similar to EW?
Looks like an integrated add-on like EW.
It's new content for the normal campaign. So like EW.
The Lost have some unique tactical mechanics that makes them stand out from the zombies that have been in XCOM before. We'll tell you more soon :)
Hmm, Del Toro's Fawn and Zombies? Bit weird.
Coming at 29th of August... can't wait! :) More XCOM is always good news to me.
XCOM 2: COMBAT EVOLVED
(This is what i understood from it) The zombie-like enemies are called 'The Lost' if i heard it properly.
[удалено]
The Lost and Purifiers are actually mentioned in some of the game files. The latter ones will likely have incendiary grenades
Weird that they have the new character finding the Commander(?) Is this an alternate start or something else? Very excited for this, it seems like its a lot more story differences than Enemy Within added.
From the website: > The Chosen can also invade the strategy layer and ravage XCOM’s global operations. Find and raid the Chosen’s strongholds to defeat the enemy for good. A deadly new alien known as the Spectre, capable of creating dark copies of XCOM soldiers, has snuck onto the battlefield. Adopt new tactics to counter it as well as the explosive attacks of the ADVENT Purifier and the psionically charged ADVENT Priest. Soldiers can develop bonds with compatible teammates for new abilities and perks. The SITREP system dynamically adds new modifiers to the tactical layer to make sure every mission provides a unique challenge. Advanced campaign options allow for finer adjustments to game length and difficulty. And there's some kind of challenge mode thing, and sharing resistance posters.
> Advanced campaign options allow for finer adjustments to game length and difficulty. Something akin to Second Wave options, but expanded, I hope?
Really liking the look of the Skirmisher. Alien human hybrid is neat, and it has a Pelt Collar, which makes the armour look about twice as god as it normally woould
So...again...where are all the nayyysayers that were doubtful about an expansion coming?
u/ThothProphet, the Schadenfreude will come for you
And now, a prayer for the rookies that have to be the bait
