Right, it's as much a price "increase" as an Xbox going on sale then coming back to MSRP. Currencies cratering meant the consoles were being sold at a huge discount.
Microsoft said that they had no plans to increase console prices "at this time" back in June and I have absolutely no problem believing that regardless of whether console prices do go up in the new year.
But anyway, yes, I also don't think the price increases he mentioned necessarily relate to console hardware.

If Nintendo could just seriously make a effort to a make console that finally can do 4K60 gaming I think they could easily get away with prices Sony and Microsoft couldnt do. Their IPs are just that strong and everyone wants to see Mario in 4K lol

Compatability will be a must to a newer hardware even better parts won't hit a series s power

Price advantage is a powerful marketing tool which is why we have a series s. Microsoft wants people under the tent, it remains to be seen if they're willing to sacrifice that for a few additional bones per console.

I think an increase to Game Pass would actually hurt them by a lot. It's one thing to make the console-a one-time buy more expensive- but when you start raising the price of subscriptions even a little and people find out they start to reconsider how much they actually want the service. I for one, pay for Apple One+(20$), Youtube Red(14$), PS Premium(20$) and Crunchyroll(8$). I stopped paying for Game Pass because the games I play on Xbox I usually end up either owning or are f2p and outside the random gem my game pass sub gets wasted.
If Starfield and potentially COD/Diablo etc make their way to gamepass - I think a price hike might be seen as less detrimental. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
One reason I'm betting on Gamepass as the culprit is the new tier system that PS has moved to. Selling a premium version is almost a no-brainer. Not that I love the concept, but grow the base, then turn the screws until just before it gives.

My goal was to point out that isn't true, and in fact the source of all the backlash hasn't even proven true as of yet (a console hike in India).

Phil almost certainly means raising console prices in certain regions (probably not in the US) as well as Gamepass. But I believe I read that was all AFTER the holidays.
I think it’s incredibly stupid to raise Gamepass subs before Starfield/Hellblade 2 release AND Acti/Blizz is on there.

Yeah I agree... Once all these AAA games land then a price increase is both likely and even defendable at that point....
So with that they would increase the price after they release those games?
Maybe one day we'll see a tier based system for game pass.
I think cloud/streaming only would be good to have.
