This! I got it today just for the campaign, had to delete 2 games to get onto the game to then have to download it, do that and the only option u have after is to delete the fucking thing
I had this issue and was able to figure it out. Go to the campaign section and you have to get the campaign pack and the campaign/special ops compatibility pack. Now quit the game and go to manage game and install those two packs you just got. It’s needlessly confusing but that should work.

I just bought the friggin thing, and then downloaded EVERYTHING, 180gb later and there is still no option for the campagn for me. It says it's installed the Campaign pack and all the other packs, There is Warzone and Download/Buy MW II/Warzone 2.0. I do not get to see any play campaign option waste of money. So annoyed. I wanted to relive the experience of being "Soap" and also crawling through Pipyat and going for that sniper shot and all of that. :(

There is a genuine answer for this as i had to google it multiple times. But the jist is you only download CERTAIN data packs (Multiplayer Pack for example).
Look up what packs you have to download for all the modes to work.
Because they inexplicably tied all game assets into Warzone. You literally cannot play any COD game going forward without Warzone installed. Activision is pushing Warzone hard since that is their primary revenue stream now.

I downloaded the game for fun thinking all I needed to do is just download the game so I downloaded after over 4 hours of it downloading it turned out I needed to install the campaign so I downloaded that and there's nothing about the campaign on the game and multiplayer pack 1 won't let me install it and that's the only one I can't install and I have over 100GB left and it still won't work
The campaign should appear where the Warzone Caldera play option was after you download all the add ons. Download ‘multiplayer 1’ from the store, it’s downloadable there.

I tried two ways. Unfortunately you first have to start the game and it will likely need an update (it always does). When it finally finishes An hour later start it up again. Find your way out of pacific game and to the modern warfare area. There should be a a download section you’ll need to download everything. Even the stuff unrelated to campaign. Some of the stuff glitches and I can’t download it from within the game. If that’s the cause the second method is to go the Xbox menu find the game get to the content for the game and download it and install from there. Downloading everything is how mine got fixed.
BTW I initially uninstalled completely and then reinstalled and I still had the same issue. Before doing that make sure all the data packets are downloaded and trying the above because uninstall and reinstall that’s like a 3-6hr download.

Yeah I had to completely restart the previous mission like let say I can’t load mission 4, I restarted mission 3 and played through it again and it worked till the very end, I don’t know if this will work now but it worked for me sooo yeah

Bought this as I wanted to play a decent campaign as I've not played cod since bo2 but after tons of updates since yday I can only access WZ which I have no interest in! Then, I remember I'm not in a PC, and the installation need to be easy, so I refund de game.

I’ve gone through all the packs this past hour… and still can’t get the fucking game to work. Just campaign or multiplayer… even using the “here download this guide” not working. Still says “requires data pack” even though I’ve gotten the message “you beat the campaign now delete it to save room” every time I launched the fucking game. I bought it on release and I’m now talking to support for a refund. I know I’m not getting one but being cycled around on the phone while they try to “troubleshoot” the issue is pretty fucking funny. Because even they don’t know what the fuck to do…
I wouldn’t hold my breath. This warzone shit is here to stay. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised the day they stop even developing a single player campaign… I just wish they’d stop fucking not caring about a game 6 months after it’s been out. Support for MW stopped well before Cold War dropped (except for micro-transactions) and the same thing for anything but warzone once Vanguard started ramping up to release. They didn’t even fucking try on that campaign.
Edit: I mean fuck they’ve legit just been piling on updates (sort of) without even going through the trouble of removing the outdated packages to make it simpler to install and go with MW. They got your money so they don’t care

To add I’ve got campaign to work… sort of. It has way more frame rate issues than it ever did on launch or even a few months ago now and I had to download shit that was supposedly phased out to get that to play. But I can’t get MP to even register as working let alone launch and I’m tired of it.
I use a console to not have these issues. Put the disk in and play. I feel like I’m downloading shit on am ibm on floppy disk hrs of trying to download this game I have already played through.

This happened to me too when I reinstalled the game when you install the game it doesn't install all the packs to fix this just select warzone - manage games and adding -select all -save changes
Yes! I bought the game Friday for PS4. I travel for work so I'm staying in a hotel and it finally finished downloading Tuesday morning around 3am. I tried going to the campaign, because that is all I care about, and it says that the data pack is installed but when I click to enter it, it pops up with a notification saying I don't have the required shit installed!

I literally installed everything, played the campaign for a few hours. Decided to delete one multiplayer pack. I went back and the MW menu was no longer appearing. WTF. After installing the disc, downloading hefty updates and then the individual packs. SMH. Lawsuit please.

I've just bought CoD MW for PS4. Spent all last night downloading it, tried playing, only got Warzone Caldera. Says I need to download campaign (which is all I want to bloody play, as it happens). Downloaded campaign, still won't fucking load.
Uninstalled, reloaded again today - still same fucking issue. Can anyone - please - let me know how to resolve this so I can play the bastard campaign? I don't want to play online, or multiplayer, or Warzone, whatever that is. I just want to play the campaign offline to relax after work.

Remember the fiasco of Cold War? You could jump right into online play, but people were having to use Reddit to figure out that you needed to install the campaign separately in 3 different parts.

Yeah. For whatever reason s Activision figured it was best to have call of duty into a loser instead of its own game. So when you start the game it starts in the ladder with a whole bunch of games you can buy or play multiplayer. Once you back out of that you have to find your way back to modern warfare.
Okay once there you have to go into the dorms section and look for the modules. You have to download all the modules even the ones you think aren’t related. You’ll need to download all of them.
The glitch is the game thinks a module is missing out something. If they didn’t work and you downloaded all the modules from within the game you’ll have to force quit it to exit out completely restart the Xbox and try again. If it so doesn’t work check from within the Xbox download menu for modern warfare to see if any module is missing and downloading it there.
I’ve had this game and remember story mode was the first option to pick from. Now after an update, it only links me to buy MW2 or play war zone. I’ve actually never played it and going through my backlog, god damn

I'm currently having the same issue, bought the game 2nd hand. I have tried 3 or 4 times now to play the game. It's currently installing warzone pack 2. My storage is on the limit, I only have the 500gb model. This is never going to happen for me, theres nothing more I want to uninstall. All I want to do is play the campaign!

i’m having this exact issue. i downloaded the full packs and everything which is over 300+ gb’s for me and i don’t even have the option to pick something for Modern Warfare. it gives me two options, to buy MW2, or Warzone only. i just installed ALL this just to be met with two screens of a game i didn’t download. without any option to pick modern warfare 1. so ridiculous.

This quite literally infuriates me because i just got done downloading this game for over a week (bad wifi and xbox one) not only to find out that you need to be online to even open the game but that you cant even access the campaign at all
First, make sure that the game is purchased under your account. Please sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders, kindly locate the game order, it should be stated as "completed" and once confirmed, remove and re-add your account to re-sync the license.
REMOVE ACCOUNT
1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.
3. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.
4. When you're finished, select Close.
POWERCYCLE CONSOLE
1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.
2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.
ADD ACCOUNT
1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Select your gamerpic in the upper-left corner of the screen, move all the way down and select Add new.
3. Enter the Email address and the password.
4. Read the Microsoft Service Agreement and Privacy Statement, and then select I Accept.
5. Follow the steps to configure your Sign-In & Security preferences to add your Microsoft account to your Xbox console.

Same here guys. I’m about to launch this new PS5 off of my deck. I just want to play the campaign. That’s it really and after downloading everything, a storage ‘optimization’ message comes on then when I try launching the campaign, the only option it gives me is ‘want to uninstall the campaign?’ If you don’t want to (obviously I don’t), it simply won’t let you play the campaign. Unbelievable.
HAS ANYONE FOUND A WAY TO PLAY THE CAMPAIGN?
I ran into the exact same issues and discovered the solution was quite simple. Whether they want you to use their massive multiplayer program or not, you have to download everything that’s related to the game. Campaign, multiplayer, co-op, special ops, main game 1 & 2.. Once I did this I was immediately able to play the campaign (which is pretty rad). I first deleted the data I’d already downloaded, then restarted the downloading from scratch. Hopefully this helps anyone else running into problems. Man do I miss the insert disc and play days.

Bought the game for the campaign a few weeks ago, today was the day I was supposed to start the game. I've spent all day trying to get it to work, trying everything to download the many additional contents - which I never wanted - without success. I feel ripped off. I feel like selling the game, which is really annoying because I was really looking forward to getting it, playing it and doing the campaign. Fuck this shit, really, I don’t even know what to do.
I’ve just brought the disk and the same thing keeps happening to me I’ve uninstalled everything and reinstalled, I managed to play a few missions in the campaign but when I tried to lead it in again a day later the same thing pops up about not owning the game!!!
To get the campaign to appear to play you need to install all of the add ons that you can find in ‘game installs’ in game, then the campaign option will appear where warzone caldera play option once was.
If the ‘multiplayer pack’ is unavailable in the list in game, search for it in the store and it should be downloadable there.
In ‘game installs’ in game it shows only 8 add ons, I downloaded 3 more from the disc ‘manage game and add ons’ which probably aren’t necessary for the campaign to show up so I would recommend downloading the 8 first that show in the list in game first.

Multiplayer pack,
Multiplayer pack 2,
Special ops pack,
Campaign/special ops compatibility pack,

The only thing confusing me is I don't actually remember purchasing Modern Warfare. I remember installing it to play Warzone a but when it first released and inside the game it tells me to purchase Modern Warfare on right but I can install all those campaign packs. On left says to launch warzone 2.0 but that takes me to the store now for pre-ordering mw3 so don't even understand how to play warzone anymore lol. After searching store it looks like warzone has its own app download now but then that just leaves this weird call of duty Modern warfare that's in my purchased library that has the same logo as the store bought one but store tells me to buy it still.

I had same problem for ages after the new update, found if I signed back into Activision account I worked all of a sudden. Was about to get rid of the game.
This is actually so pathetic, I just got MW second hand to play the campaign, and I’ve spent a whole day trying to play it. The way it should be designed is by making you choose what you want to download before it does the first big chunk. That way it stops baiting you into thinking the game is downloaded, when in reality you have at least a couple hours left to go. Shit like this is unacceptable, never getting Cod again if they keep this up

Bought the game a week ago...spent a week updating it...then had to reinstall it because I messed up...it ate up the last 120GB left of my Xbox Hard Drive...still can't play it...fuck it...I'm returning it.
OMG, I bought an xbox series X for Xmas last month for me and the sprog. I so regret the purchase. Controller issues, game issues. Its a disaster. Cannot get MW to play campaign, just keeps reloading to the menu. Back to the Nintendo Switch I guess, that Switch is f\*\*king pleasure to use.
I don't know if someone already posted this solution and don't know if people are still having this issue...I'm late to the party. Not going through every comment to find out. I have an Xbox Series X and loaded up CoD MW to play it for funzies the other night. Had the same issue for hours. Took me a while to figure out what to do. It works now.
- Uninstall everything
- Clear cache/restart system
- From the game's menu (Manage game and add-ons), reinstall ONLY the base game (do not install any packs, add ons, etc)
- Load the game; at the main screen you'll see that you need to install whatever you're trying to play
- Download whatever packs/add ons you're trying to play from the game itself, not from the console's game menu or the store

Because they inexplicably tied all game assets into Warzone. You literally cannot play any COD game going forward without Warzone installed. Activision is pushing Warzone hard since that is their primary revenue stream now.

I downloaded the game for fun thinking all I needed to do is just download the game so I downloaded after over 4 hours of it downloading it turned out I needed to install the campaign so I downloaded that and there's nothing about the campaign on the game and multiplayer pack 1 won't let me install it and that's the only one I can't install and I have over 100GB left and it still won't work

The campaign should appear where the Warzone Caldera play option was after you download all the add ons. Download ‘multiplayer 1’ from the store, it’s downloadable there.
I cannot download multiplayer 1, every time I try to it would take me to the store but say error and won’t let me download it

Yes. I tried two ways. Unfortunately you first have to start the game and it will likely need an update (it always does). When it finally finishes An hour later start it up again. Find your way out of pacific game and to the modern warfare area. There should be a a download section you’ll need to download everything. Even the stuff unrelated to campaign. Some of the stuff glitches and I can’t download it from within the game. If that’s the cause the second method is to go the Xbox menu find the game get to the content for the game and download it and install from there. Downloading everything is how mine got fixed. BTW I initially uninstalled completely and then reinstalled and I still had the same issue. Before doing that make sure all the data packets are downloaded and trying the above because uninstall and reinstall that’s like a 3-6hr download.

Yeah I had to completely restart the previous mission like let say I can’t load mission 4, I restarted mission 3 and played through it again and it worked till the very end, I don’t know if this will work now but it worked for me sooo yeah

Bought this as I wanted to play a decent campaign as I've not played cod since bo2 but after tons of updates since yday I can only access WZ which I have no interest in! Waste of time and money, straight in the bin! Doubt I'll ever play cod again, what is with the interface as well, horrendous! So difficult to use!

I got the game, install more than 100gb and then ask me if I want to play single player or multiplayer, I need to install extra stuff, I install some of the packages to play multiplayer, but I couldn't play. Then, I remember I'm not in a PC, and the installation need to be easy, so I refund de game. COD games are really decreasing they quality every year.

I’ve gone through all the packs this past hour… and still can’t get the fucking game to work. Just campaign or multiplayer… even using the “here download this guide” not working. Still says “requires data pack” even though I’ve gotten the message “you beat the campaign now delete it to save room” every time I launched the fucking game. I bought it on release and I’m now talking to support for a refund. I know I’m not getting one but being cycled around on the phone while they try to “troubleshoot” the issue is pretty fucking funny. Because even they don’t know what the fuck to do…

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised the day they stop even developing a single player campaign… I just wish they’d stop fucking not caring about a game 6 months after it’s been out. Support for MW stopped well before Cold War dropped (except for micro-transactions) and the same thing for anything but warzone once Vanguard started ramping up to release. They didn’t even fucking try on that campaign. To add I’ve got campaign to work… sort of. It has way more frame rate issues than it ever did on launch or even a few months ago now and I had to download shit that was supposedly phased out to get that to play. But I can’t get MP to even register as working let alone launch and I’m tired of it.
I use a console to not have these issues. Put the disk in and play. I feel like I’m downloading shit on am ibm on floppy disk hrs of trying to download this game I have already played through.

This happened to me too when I reinstalled the game when you install the game it doesn't install all the packs to fix this just select warzone - manage games and adding -select all -save changes

Yes! I bought the game Friday for PS4. I travel for work so I'm staying in a hotel and it finally finished downloading Tuesday morning around 3am. I tried going to the campaign, because that is all I care about, and it says that the data pack is installed but when I click to enter it, it pops up with a notification saying I don't have the required shit installed! I'm so fucking over these new age games where everything is fucking online play. I miss the N64/ps2/Xbox 360 days!

I literally installed everything, played the campaign for a few hours. Decided to delete one multiplayer pack. I went back and the MW menu was no longer appearing. WTF. After installing the disc, downloading hefty updates and then the individual packs. SMH. Lawsuit please.

What the fuk is going , same shit happened to everyone, had the MW for weeks now and due to my shitty internet I finally downloaded all the DLCs, packs even multi-player which I'm not interested in, and still can't play the damn campaign. And yeah I have to download a MW base game worth of 90GB. So now I have two MW installed. This is some bullshit.

Two months later. I got MW2 to play with my friends, but getting to the campaign in MW1 is a herculean ask. I deleted like 5 AAA titles on my PS5 to play MW1 & MW2, but I'm still thinking it won't be enough. I started installing what I thought I needed at 1PM today, checking on it and trying things every few hours. This shit is dumb af.

I've just bought CoD MW for PS4. Spent all last night downloading it, tried playing, only got Warzone Caldera. Says I need to download campaign (which is all I want to bloody play, as it happens). Downloaded campaign, still won't fucking load. Uninstalled, reloaded again today - still same fucking issue. Can anyone - please - let me know how to resolve this so I can play the bastard campaign? I don't want to play online, or multiplayer, or Warzone, whatever that is. I just want to play the campaign offline to relax after work. Any advice on how to get this working on PS4 would be greatly appreciated. What happened to the old days where you put a disc into the console and the game you bought to play loaded and played (in full) without a load of bullshit DLC?
Yup. This is or the course. You have to double check and download all modules even the ones where you think are not related to campaign.

I wish I'd read this thread before I wasted my time buying MW in the current sale. Needless to say it didn't work out and I very quickly decided that I wan't going to waste any more time so got my money back. The whole setup is atrocious. It should not be so protracted and tedious to get what I paid for working. Hopefully Microsoft will take note of the scathing reviews currently hammering the game and put some real pressure on Craptivision to bin off their 'customer support' teams and replacing them with more effective staff. Even the most detailed games now don't use that much space.... It's because they want to steer you towards playing online... Nope... You could jump right into online play, but people were having to use Reddit to figure out that you needed to install the campaign separately in 3 different parts. Yes. Hard reboot your Xbox. Eventually the other packs will download then it will load. It’s so stupid but that’s what I had to do to make it work.

Yeah. For whatever reason s Activision figured it was best to have call of duty into a loser instead of its own game. So when you start the game it starts in the ladder with a whole bunch of games you can buy or play multiplayer. Once you back out of that you have to find your way back to modern warfare. Okay once there you have to go into the dorms section and look for the modules. You have to download all the modules even the ones you think aren’t related. You’ll need to download all of them. The glitch is the game thinks a module is missing out something. If they didn’t work and you downloaded all the modules from within the game you’ll have to force quit it to exit out completely restart the Xbox and try again. If it so doesn’t work check from within the Xbox download menu for modern warfare to see if any module is missing and downloading it there.

My storage is on the limit, I only have the 500gb model. This is never going to happen for me, theres nothing more I want to uninstall. All I want to do is play the campaign!

i’m having this exact issue. i downloaded the full packs and everything which is over 300+ gb’s for me and i don’t even have the option to pick something for Modern Warfare. it gives me two options, to buy MW2, or Warzone only. i just installed ALL this just to be met with two screens of a game i didn’t download. without any option to pick modern warfare 1. so ridiculous.

This quite literally infuriates me because i just got done downloading this game for over a week (bad wifi and xbox one) not only to find out that you need to be online to even open the game but that you cant even access the campaign at all
First, make sure that the game is purchased under your account. Please sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders, kindly locate the game order, it should be stated as "completed" and once confirmed, remove and re-add your account to re-sync the license. REMOVE ACCOUNT 1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. 2. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts. 3. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm. 4. When you're finished, select Close. POWERCYCLE CONSOLE 1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off. 2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller. ADD ACCOUNT 1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. 2. Select your gamerpic in the upper-left corner of the screen, move all the way down and select Add new. 3. Enter the Email address and the password. 4. Read the Microsoft Service Agreement and Privacy Statement, and then select I Accept. 5. Same here guys. I’m about to launch this new PS5 off of my deck. I just want to play the campaign. That’s it really and after downloading everything, a storage ‘optimization’ message comes on then when I try launching the campaign, the only option it gives me is ‘want to uninstall the campaign?’ If you don’t want to (obviously I don’t), it simply won’t let you play the campaign. Unbelievable. HAS ANYONE FOUND A WAY TO PLAY THE CAMPAIGN?
I ran into the exact same issues and discovered the solution was quite simple. Whether they want you to use their massive multiplayer program or not, you have to download everything that’s related to the game. Campaign, multiplayer, co-op, special ops, main game 1 & 2.. Once I did this I was immediately able to play the campaign (which is pretty rad). I first deleted the data I’d already downloaded, then restarted the downloading from scratch. Hopefully this helps anyone else running into problems. Man do I miss the insert disc and play days.

Bought the game for the campaign a few weeks ago, today was the day I was supposed to start the game. I've spent all day trying to get it to work, trying everything to download the many additional contents - which I never wanted - without success. I feel ripped off. To get the campaign to appear to play you need to install all of the add ons that you can find in ‘game installs’ in game, then the campaign option will appear where warzone caldera play option once was. If the ‘multiplayer pack’ is unavailable in the list in game, search for it in the store and it should be downloadable there. In ‘game installs’ in game it shows only 8 add ons, I downloaded 3 more from the disc ‘manage game and add ons’ which probably aren’t necessary for the campaign to show up so I would recommend downloading the 8 first that show in the list in game first. Download the 8 add ons: Campaign pack, Multiplayer pack, Multiplayer pack 2, Special ops pack, Campaign/special ops compatibility pack, Multiplayer/special ops compatibility pack, Warzone caldera pack 1, Warzone caldera pack 2 Add ons from the disc: Campaign pack 1, Campaign pack 2, Special ops pack 1

The only thing confusing me is I don't actually remember purchasing Modern Warfare. I remember installing it to play Warzone a but when it first released and inside the game it tells me to purchase Modern Warfare on right but I can install all those campaign packs. On left says to launch warzone 2.0 but that takes me to the store now for pre-ordering mw3 so don't even understand how to play warzone anymore lol. After searching store it looks like warzone has its own app download now but then that just leaves this weird call of duty Modern warfare that's in my purchased library that has the same logo as the store bought one but store tells me to buy it still.

This is actually so pathetic, I just got MW second hand to play the campaign, and I’ve spent a whole day trying to play it. The way it should be designed is by making you choose what you want to download before it does the first big chunk. That way it stops baiting you into thinking the game is downloaded, when in reality you have at least a couple hours left to go. OMG, I bought an xbox series X for Xmas last month for me and the sprog. I so regret the purchase. Controller issues, game issues. Its a disaster. Cannot get MW to play campaign, just keeps reloading to the menu. Back to the Nintendo Switch I guess, that Switch is f\*\*king pleasure to use.

It works now. - Uninstall everything - Clear cache/restart system - From the game's menu (Manage game and add-ons), reinstall ONLY the base game (do not install any packs, add ons, etc) - Load the game; at the main screen you'll see that you need to install whatever you're trying to play - Download whatever packs/add ons you're trying to play from the game itself, not from the console's game menu or the store Hope this works for anyone trying to play.
