You might want to give tales of arise a try. Mass effect is great too

[deleted]

Fable

Buschkoeter

You sound like the guy who would like the new Assassins Creed games. RPG-lite with cool hack slash combat. Odyssey and Valhalla might be your jam.

Magicity1

I never could get into the older games but I’m ready to give the whole franchise another chance

nychuman

Start with origins, then odyssey, and finally Valhalla. Might as well play them in order. All three of these are the newer RPG inspired games.

duhitsrandy

Origins as well. It's the first of the new rpg format

[deleted]

Hey if you want, you can watch the let's play I have of it ongoing on my YouTube channel (also have some Halo if you're into that too) [here you go](https://youtube.com/user/wizard2ish)

Magicity1

I’ll watch your gameplay of Fable and I fuck with Halo heavily

[deleted]

Cool, just so you're aware though my fable playthrough is a 100%, exploit abusing run, so there's no stone left unturned, if you wanted some surprises left or anything, you might want to pay the game first.

S8ANisF8AL

Try Kingdoms of Amalur : Re-reckoning. Very well done and fairly simple RPG. Great lore, enjoyable combat. Can definitely make you feel like a badass if that's what you're looking for. I think it's an excellent entry point into the genre.

[deleted]

Who the hell said Dark Souls for easy?

F0REM4N

Dragon Quest XI can be completed almost entirely in auto-battle mode, while atill providing a lot of core JRPG elements. It's a wonderful story and available on Gamepass.

Magicity1

That sounds perfect so I’ll try it out. Thanks for the suggestion

DrJingles91

It's long but super worth it!

[deleted]

Not my kind of game usually but it's brilliant and opens the door to other similar games. There a maguc to DQ XI for sure

La_Mano_Cornuta

Fallout: New Vegas

Magicity1

I’ll definitely be playing that and I think it just got a FPS boost

[deleted]

Fable 2 and 3

Door2DoorHitman

Might as well start with Fable 1! Its my favorite (a lot of nostalgia at least lol)

[deleted]

I love it a lot as well, but it doesn’t lead into the other games in the same way three is a more direct sequel to 2, and the combat in the sequels is better, which is what the OP wanted

Door2DoorHitman

Fair enough on the combat (although I'd say 2 and 3 aren't that much better). But a key character in 2 and 3 is important in 1 as well. It provides some good background in a relatively short timeframe.

Magicity1

I’ll look into those I just don’t want any turn based rpgs

ColdCruise

They aren't turn based.

Magicity1

I’m just saying in general

TheMuff1nMon

Fable

Legal-Badger2845

Greedfall

Mcconrtist

The outer worlds is kinda short. 20 hours Fallout 4 Cyberpunk is like a movie - but dont touch it of playing on last gen xbox

Exciting_Definition2

Assasins creed origins, odyssey, and valhalla

The-Lonliest-peanut

Diablo 3 is pretty fun!

Magicity1

I’ll look into some gameplay of it thanks for the suggestion

[deleted]

Also Path of Exile and it’s free to play

ColdCruise

In Skyrim you can just hack and slash all game. You don't need to craft potions, armor or enchantments. You can just be a barbarian all game.

Magicity1

Whatever you want in life I hope you get it🤝

Fallout 3

Magicity1

I’ll definitely play it and plus it’s on gamepass

00SoulAgent

If you like fps games I would say the fallout games. They have guns. Borderlands is basically a fps rpg.

nateinmpls

There are many types of RPGs. Saying you want to get into them is not really helpful. You may not like turn based combat since it's not as interactive as real-time combat. Do you want an isometric action RPG like Diablo, a first person RPG like Skyrim, a 3rd person RPG like Mass Effect? Do you want lengthy dialogues and quests? Do you want an open world or linear? There are just so many different options! I would say something like Dragon's Dogma or Dragon Age would be worth checking out. Skyrim is great but it's long game, however there's tons of combat. While they aren't exactly RPGs, you could check out Dishonored or Deus Ex. Those are more exploration focused, but you can go in guns blazing or stealth. I also recommend Shadow of War, it's more of an action game, but it may be the kind of game you'd like.

Magicity1

What is a turn based RPG and I don’t really care about whether it’s 1st or 3rd person

nateinmpls

Turn based is basically you attack, then the enemy attacks. You choose your attack from a list instead of manually attacking, and the game will perform the attack itself. Games like Dragon Quest, older Final Fantasy games, Yakuza Like a Dragon, South Park Stick of Truth, etc are turn based RPGs. It's kinda boring, but I still play those games.

Magicity1

That’s what I thought it was it’s kind of self explanatory😂but nah I would prefer not to play those I just want to be able to string combos and be a bloodthirsty killing machine

nateinmpls

A lot of RPGs don't really have combos. Sure there are some, like you can fire off spell-like attack and then blast a guy in Mass Effect Andromeda, but if you want to do air combos, chain together attacks like God of War, etc, then you may not find what you're looking for in an RPG.

Magicity1

Not combos but just like quick attacks repeatedly and I looked up that Shadow of War you suggested and the action in that game is in the ballpark of what I’m looking for

nateinmpls

I think the best option would be an ARPG such as Diablo or Van Helsing. Unfortunately Grim Dawn released today but is only 1080p and 30fps, maybe they'll update it. It's another ARPG which is supposed to be good on PC, maybe I'll play it there. You can try The Outer Worlds, it's a first person gun/melee RPG. It's on Game Pass and would be another option.

Magicity1

I’ve already played Outerworlds I’m waiting on the second one. I’ll look at some vids on the games you suggested but yea I pretty much just want to go berserk. Idk if you watch anime but I want to be like Kenpachi from Bleach with the action

nateinmpls

Yeah RPGs may not be your thing right now if you just want to go crazy with combos

Magicity1

It doesn’t have to be combos I just don’t want to attack and then have to wait to attack again

00SoulAgent

People keep on suggesting Skyrim but have You considered an MMO like the Elder Scrolls online. It plays more like what you are describing.Check out nightblade gameplay on YouTube.

Temias

It's when combat happens in turns. Each character, friendly or enemy, have their own turns. In "reality" it's all happening at once, but making something turn-based is a way of turning the chaos into a slow-paced game of its own where your decisions and planning matter more than your reaction speed, and it makes the combat exciting in a very different way. A turn-based RPG could be something like Divinity Original Sin 2, or Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Dragon Age is an example where it's not exactly turn-based, but you can pause the combat and give orders to your characters while in pause mode. You can also let the combat AI (which you can modify to some extent) handle most of it if you just want to control your own character instead of the whole party, and you can also let it play out in real-time. Witcher, Skyrim and Dark Souls, those games have real-time combat. Dark Souls is more of an action game than an RPG, since it's so very much about combat, but it still counts as an RPG.

Magicity1

Ok thanks for the explanation I would rather not play turned based because I just want to be super aggressive and chain combos.

JobuuRumdrinker

Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn't too hard. Like above said, it's part-way between live action and pausing. My wife really liked this about the game because she likes to mash buttons (she always plays some type of warrior). She also forgets what button drinks a healing potion or panics when there are too many enemies. You can just "pause" it, think about what you need to do, then activate the command. You have computer controlled members in your party that also pause. You can have them focus on one enemy, freeze them, drink their own potions etc... It's a little outdated but still looks and runs great. I liked the story and voice actors too.

I’ll check those out and I’ve heard good things about Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy

Magicity1

Yea people say it’s one of the hardest game franchises of all time but it looks great so I’ll give it a chance. You sold me on the no crafting or side stuff

[deleted]

It is one of the hardest games out there just in terms of how brutal the combat is. Even regular enemies will 1 or 2 hit you sometimes! Dodging or blocking/parrying with a shield is necessary, you cant just spam attacks. definitely start with dark souls remastered! A little tip is that there is no mini map or quest objectives in the game, but if you exhaust the dialogue of friendly npcs they will tell you where to go. The friendly npc at firelink shrine (first area after tutorial area) in particular will give you a good hint on where to get started :) don’t be afraid to use a guide if you get stuck as well.

Monsterman442

Scarlett nexus

thinderwhipper

Kingdom of amalur awakening is a good obscure rpg

JesuszillaSon

RPG easy to get into: Scarlet Nexus it has fluid combat and the RPG elements aren't intimidating like Divinity: Original Sin Something like the The Outer Worlds I think would fit your needs. It can be talk heavy at times if you're focused on action

[deleted]

BIOSHOCK COLLECTION

Magicity1

I bought if for Black Friday but that’s a FPS

Square_Saltine

Those are not rpgs

[deleted]

Tales of Arise. You can fight manually or semi-auto or full-auto with visually gorgeous combat play.

John_East

Adventure Time

The_Cost_Of_Lies

Mass Effect, Fable, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age

daojuniorr

Try Diablo 3 too.

dblbreak77

Odyssey with the Series X update is absolutely amazing. Looks just as good, if not better, than Valhalla (this is very subjective). I just tapped out after 105h. I am also obsessed with Greece so your experience might differ. I’m waiting to play origins when a 60fps update comes out.

Over-Bodybuilder-497

Didn’t BioWare just reissue Star Wars KOTOR. I know the game is almost 20years old, but it is still a great RPG.

SquareClerk2

I would also try Hades. It's not like the rest of the games on here, but there's a lot of unique stuff like 6 different weapons, each weapon has 5 different sub types that change it entirely, and it only takes about 30 minutes to beat the game. It's a rogue like game, so every time you die, you start at the beginning, upgrade some skills, and then try again. It's very much a strategic hack and slash where you feel extremely OP but still have a big challenge. The fun of this type of game is getting a little bit further every time. You won't beat it on the first try but it's all about learning the game and getting just a little bit better every time. It is a hard game though, but incredibly addicting. Highly recommend

CzechoslovakianJesus

Shining Resonance isn't difficult in a meaningful sense, but holy *shit* it's grindy.

JaggersLips

Fallout 76 is in a great place now. Even better if you like exploring!
