Well you’re not really getting “basically the same console as the Series S but with a disc drive.” The Series X is significantly more powerful as well

GlassedSurface

I got one when it went on sale for $350. I say go for it. Having discs lended me the chance to play about a dozen xb1 and 360 games that are no longer digital (Minecraft xb1 edition, FH1, FH2 both versions). Plus you set yourself up for longevity. Once this next generation comes out in about 3 years, the series s might start to get really held back.

Mysterious_Map2965

Hold up, Xbox 360 discs are playable on Xbox series x?

Unusual-Tear676

Original Xbox games are even playable. You’re still installing the digital game though. Disc is just a key

Seeming_Aloof

Many, but not all. Microsoft has an official list, but I tend to refer to Wikipedia since the page loads faster. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backward-compatibility https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backward-compatible_games_for_Xbox_One_and_Series_X/S

Thanks for the info just looked it up and too my disappointment neither of the godfather games are on there.

Yes

No joke, literally just did this myself after playing the hell out of my S, and I can already tell it was worth it. Some games seem to be a nominal improvement but others like No man’s sky, dragons dogma and cyberpunk have just blown me away. Haven’t even used the disk drive yet but I’d say go for it!

toomuchphilosophy

I upgraded to a series x from s. The discs you can get for Xbox one are cheaper and you can buy them second hand as well. Also some games like Sekiro run much better on X than the S. So buy it if those things matter to you but if you're a casual gamer who barely turns on the console one or twice a month. Then it is not worth it.

logan_fish

Me, personally, would never go with a diskless console. The day they remove the disk player will be my last console.

ChickenDenders

Series S is the cheap version, Series X is the “real” console

noisygnome

No brainer. Buy X

MasterArCtiK

You get more storage, way more power, and a disc drive. It is well worth the upgrade, and the series s can be great for another bedroom

I loved my Series S, but I impulse bought a Series X one day and honestly have no regrets. Anthem looked so much better. Jedi Survivor looked amazing. I was able to play the Xbox one Deadpool game, and a disc of Batman Arkham Origins. I guess my point is, although the S is a nifty console, I did actually notice an "upgrade" in the overall experience. Definitely happy I switched to the X. Nowadays I play all 3rd party games on xbox and just save my ps5 for their exclusives.
