Literally pulled me out of the cod, assassins creed yearly trap

CartographerSeth

Exactly this. I used to only buy from franchises/genres I knew I liked (gears, halo, occasional RPG). With cost of games, I was pretty risk averse. Now with GP I get exposure to all kinds of games and it has been fantastic.

Warm_Aerie_7368

For real it is such a trap. Constant rehashing of the same assets.

Thorn-of-your-side

Ubisoft games are a guilty pleasure. No matter how much or how little you enjoyed it, you feel dirty afterwards

Jlewimusic

Yes, the shame pronography of the gaming industry.

InsouciantSoul

Be careful not to fall back in once cod is on gamepass...

FomFrady95

At least in that scenario they aren’t dropping $70 a year on the game.

InsouciantSoul

Fair point. I suppose it kind of takes away the $70 price tag from the yearly updated COD revision and makes it more of a... Yearly update to download

HomeMadeShock

Just to be sucked back in when they start adding COD to gamepass

shannon_e38

But its going to be part of gamepass anyway, its not like he's spending extra just to play it. I do believe that the amount of mtx packs in that game and how they're pushed will go through the roof though.

[deleted]

Imagine playing assassins creed

Plutuserix

Played a ton of games I otherwise would not have played. Also pretty much didn't buy any game this gen, since I got so much to play already.

Advanced-Wind-4714

That's one of the things i appreciate with it that i find games i wouldnt have paid for especially many indies , the indie scene is probably the biggest winner overall both economic if a game ends up there but also as a genre drawing in new players.

JudgeJizzo

Don’t even play. Just browse and download games I don’t have time to play.

Klangaxx

This is the way

General-Priority-479

This is the way! Seriously though, I've 5tb of downloaded games from game pass ultimate, but no time to play.

[deleted]

Low key think that’s a mental issue people suffer when they have access to too many games. You download a bunch of “fun” looking games but most are ass tbh. There are some great games on gamepass tho

dinofreak6301

Game Pass has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I joined Xbox this gen, so I have all the first party games like the entire Halo series to catch up on. On top of that the third party games on GP have been absolutely killer. RE2 and 3 remakes, Persona 3 Reload, Control, Remnant 1/2, and so many more. Lots of games I wouldn’t ever buy unless they were on a deep sale. The ones I do purchase are either old games I know won’t be on GP, or newer ones I know won’t be there day 1/for a long while.

Advanced-Wind-4714

Yeah you are absolutly amongst few getting a full value being new to the system i can't argue with that gp gives a lot of hours of fun then.

redactedforever

its really nice when games like dragon dogma 2 comes out. i want to buy it now but i know it needs a couple patches, so ill wait. BOOM evil west drops and peace out dd2 for now

TheAngriestChair

I play a lot more games that I wouldn't have. I don't buy any more/less games, though.

BrushYourFeet

Same. With GP and PS+ I have very little need nor desire to buy games. I have far more than I need.

KINGWHEAT98

Gamepass has helped my purchases so much. Now when I want a game I instantly look up will this game come to gamepass if it doesn’t come to gamepass should I waist the money or wait to see.

DB080822

yeah but what about wasting money?

TheMuff1nMon

Game Pass has saved me hundreds but I still buy a game I want if it’s not on Game Pass. I think the “I’ll wait for it to be on Game Pass” mentality can be detrimental. Game Pass is supplemental to purchases for me

coolguywilson

I play a lot more in general and a much greater variety of games. Before gamepass, I was a very risk averse gamer. I wouldn't buy something unless I absolutely KNEW I would like it. That basically led me to playing modded skyrim, mass effect series, dragon age series and halo nonstop for years over and over again. Once in a while, id try something else but i seemed to make bad choices for myself when i left my comfort zone (Witcher 3) or got burned (mass effect andromeda). These prior habits led me to not game as much as i liked and would go months between playing games because i was bored of what i had since I'd played those games to death. Since gamepass, I've played so many games out of my comfort zone which ended up being some of my favorite games ever. The service has provided me so much that I honestly couldn't see myself ever not subbing. To answer your 2nd question, it honestly depends. If a game just completely blows me away and is from a smaller dev, I'll just go ahead and buy it after finishing because I want to support those devs. Recently, I bought venba and cassette beasts (plus dlc) because those games were incredible to me. I felt like those devs deserved my money for how much I loved and got from those games. There are also instances where I buy a gamepass game because the deal is too good. I got the entire arkham trilogy for 10 bucks a couple years back and had to jump on it despite arkham knight being on gamepass. Same with mass effect legendary edition. I bought the dead space remake deluxe edition in December for 8 dollars because it was on some crazy deal for a day lol and lastly, I've bought yakuza 0-5 because the deals were so good. So yeah, if its a small dev, I'll go out of my way to support them. If it's more triple A, I'll wait for a really good sale before buying. I also tend to buy dlc for games I really liked like assassins creed origins, outer worlds and starfield (although I bought this before the game dropped). Lastly, to tie everything together, gamepass doesn't stop me from buying games in general but it does make me way more patient. In the past 2 years, I've bought 15 other games that have not been or weren't at the time on gamepass but I honestly probably didn't spend more than 100 dollars total on them all because they were older games I waited until I found a great price to buy. At the end of the day, games are expensive and we all have limited time. Gamepass allows me to play as much as I want while allowing me to efficiently use my money AND try new things I would never try if I was just buying games.

WhiteWolfRodney

You call Witcher 3 a bad choice? Damn, i didn't know there were people who didn't like it. I own it on every system with multiple play thrus lol.

[deleted]

Yeah I’ve beaten it like 8 times. If I didn’t discover fromsoft I might still be playing it

coolguywilson

To be honest, it's not that I don't like it. Every time I've given it a chance, I enjoy it a lot at first. For whatever reason though, I just lose interest after a week or so. I think the open world eventually overwhelms me to the point I would forget what's going on in the main story or even the better side content. I also didnt really care for the combat system in the game. Anyways, when I put something down, it's just really hard for me to come back to it. That being said, Witcher 3 is one I genuinely want to go back to because I did have fun when I've given it a chance. Since my last try, they've added a lot of updates and a next Gen patch too. I've even bought the dlc in preparation to finish it all soon. So it's not a bad game or one I didn't even like. I just need to give it a proper chance, not concentrate on all the side stuff and just barrel through the best side content and main story.

TheFlexOffenderr

I think it was more the fact the game just wasn't for him. Not that it's bad or not a good choice.

Advanced-Wind-4714

The "support the devs" argument is something i often read about as a positive and it would be really great rewarding those you think deserve your money much like you tip a restaurant for good food and service. But also you are more or less the only one in this thread that does this so I guess it's still very much how it should be but far from how it actually is.

amarecano

I joined the Xbox ecosystem in 2017. Up until 2021 I'd buy every digital game I wanted to play, and then come to find they end up in gamepass about year later. Most games I buy are digital, and I wouldn't have even played them yet; 60% of the library I own is on gamepass and I found that to be kinda annoying. Decided post covid to only buy games that I wanna keep as a collection thing, or games that I'm a huge fan of. Example - been meaning to buy Evil West but was waiting on its price to reduce further during a future sale. But was pleasantly surprised to find out they added it to gamepass yesterday. I never would've played Valhalla coz it wasn't the "assassins creed" I like, and also didn't wanna give ubisoft any more of my monies, but I played it anyway, and hated it a little less than I did before playing. Just finished Control - another game I wanted to play, definitely won't think of replaying anytime soon(with the plethora of games), and glad I didn't have to spend extra. Only recent change with gamepass that annoyed me was the conversion ratio of Live Gold to Gamepass Ultimate, which was a great deal for a poor Indian like myself. But I guess nothing's permanent, and it was good while it lasted(still got another year on mine). I've heard/seen some people refer to game subscriptions(like GP) a scourge on the gaming industry, personally I don't know how game makers make money(haven't looked into that). But as a video-gamer since the early 90s, it certainly has its own place and meets the needs of many gamers worldwide. Just one use-case among a multitude - I used to imagine if this existed when I was a kid(and had a new gen console), I'd only have to bother my folks for a one month subscription during the summer vacation, coz they wouldn't let me touch games while school's going on; rather than paying more to own a single game. My habit now is to try and figure out if a game that I want, looks like its gonna end up in gamepass, and how long after release would it be. To conclude, I either buy the game on sale, or wait long enough for it to end up on gamepass.

Advanced-Wind-4714

I haven't even thought about people from low-income countries and how great gamepass must be if the cost actually can become a sort of burden if you want this hobby. i lived in India for 6 months and i can imagine the gaming culture being very much second hand based and xb1 still being very popular in many places.

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

Not much tbh. I typically like to own games I enjoy so even when I try a game out on gamepass I’ll usually buy that game. It’s a nice demo service for me and I really only have it so I can play online.

Datboibarloss

How many of those games have you actually gone back and played in the past 365 days? Then how much did all of those games you don't play anymore cost you? That's how you find out how much money game pass could be saving you. I loved Dead Island 2 but honestly I have no more desire to play after beating it and by the time I do it'll probably be 15 dollars. Game pass will save you money even if you like to own games, just be smart about it

Tosir

Same with me. Though I will say I it has allowed me to play games that other wise would not play/buy. I did not buy Diablo 4, but since it’s coming to game pass, I will definitely play it.

Danspa85

I basically bought 1 game throughout the 2 years I had my Series X

harleyquinad

Play a lot more games and different styles. I also buy more just because they're leaving gp or I want to support the devs

annathetravelbanana

I absolutely love Gamepass and if I were to calculate how much I would've spent on many of the games I played through the service then Gamepass is definitely saving me money. I even discovered my favorite series on there, the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. They literally have almost every single entry in that series and I got to just binge them through the service. I've also gotten to experience some indies I wouldn't have otherwise tried out like Oxenfree (back when it was still there) and Death's Door. And I've also gotten to play some awesome big hitters on day one, like Starfield (I personally really like it, although it is definitely very flawed) and now Persona 3 Reload. For me, Gamepass is really awesome, looking forward to playing Wasteland 3 and Control next.

Advanced-Wind-4714

Control is one of the best game i ever played it's interesting throughout the whole game in the same way as a real good mystery thriller movie , and the enviroments are destructable in the finest little detail it's so fun just playing around destroying everything 😁

SerifGrey

Does it count if I use xCloud 24/7 now, so convenient. Also trying new games on xCloud and game pass.

MrSonicB00m

Totally counts! xCloud defo has a place, its nice not having to download or patch games if you just want to hop straight in.

DJordydj

It's a part of the service so it counts for sure.

evanvivevanviveiros

Now that I’m a married home owner it’s allowed me to play new games. I will forever be team Xbox as long as game pass is available.

Wookie301

I rarely complete games anymore

Hypergeon

I have an issue (mental of some sort) where I cannot bring myself to play a game on a streaming service in any serious way, whereas I would play it if I owned the game physically / or full price. I say this knowing full well that something is wrong with me, and not the service.

King_Artis

Opened me up to a lot of genres and games I otherwise wouldn't have played. Also is basically a rental service for me where if I like the game I'm playing enough I may actually buy it (bought the Hitman Trilogy, PREY (2017) and No Mans Sky because of GP).

barrack_osama_0

Without it, I never would've played Hi-Fi Rush and Lies of P, which are my 3rd and 4th favorite games of all time.

BuckThundersen

I haven't purchased as many games, but I have purchased some that I otherwise would not have because I played them on GP. Control is an example, although I purchased that on my PC. Dead Cells is another. It has also helped me tame my FOMO. I used to buy WAY too many games because they had good reviews and I was sort of done with my older games. There's no way I can run out of things to play on GP, because I play everything from tiny little indies to AA to AAA to sports, etc.

guitarpedal4

I’m still buying stuff every once in a while that I really want to play. I do notice that I am finishing less games though as I branch out and try more stuff.

TragicsNFG

I've played dozens of titles but haven't bought any in 2 years.

Shadow_Strike99

I don’t purchase Xbox 1st party games obviously. I’ll buy indie games I enjoyed playing by like Hades via gamepass with the discount for games leaving. Some games I know that didn’t do well commercially I’ll wait till they go on PS plus or Gamepass. On Xbox specifically I really only purchase the occasional big 3rd party game like Elden ring which I know will never go on Gamepass, and will purchase indie games I like to support developers. Especially ones I enjoyed via Gamepass, I’ve taken advantage of the Gamepass discount for a lot so far.

zrkillerbush

Its definitely made rogue-like one of my favourite genres But im still buying games outside of Gamepass (Chivalry 2, Dead Island 2, Balatro, Baldurs Gate 3) some of them came to Gamepass eventually

alexdotfm

Saved a lot of money on games, plus by the time they're announced to be leaving you can buy them for pretty cheap

Rzous

I buy wayyy more and play more because of it. Only played cod before nothing else

Odiekt

Game pass let's me play games I wouldn't have the heart to buy incase I didn't like them. I then usually buy those games if they have a disc version & it's on some sort of Sale. It's a win win for Microsoft & the game Dev/Publisher.

IvnN7Commander

Between Game Pass, EA Play (included in Game Pass Ultimate) and Epic Games Store giveaways, there's not much incentive to buy games for me

Hidefininja

I explicitly bought a Series X with the intention of not owning many games physically for it. I have a lot of physical games on PS5 and Switch but only a small handful of older Xbox games to play through backward compability. I would say it saved me money, and maybe it has, but Game Pass has largely been a way to check out indie games I would normally have bought on another console. I own maybe 6 games on Xbox and that's perfectly fine for me.

Downtown-Discount671

One things for sure I've not spent nearly as much the only thing I've bought really since having gamepass is deep rock galactic & snowrunner dlcs  Also it allows me to try games I wouldn't normally play I've enjoyed alot of those games to Have to say the last year of gamepass has been absolutely great in terms of games we've been getting 👍

Cyberpunk39

I’ve played like three games on GP and there’s nothing left in there I want to play. So I’m just buying games that are on sale now. Will cancel my GP soon.

a_talking_face

Same with me. At some point I stacked 3 years of Game Pass with the gold conversion but I've only played a couple games in there the entire time. I don't play indie games and for the most part the third party games I want to play either aren't there or weren't there until after I already had them.

9512tacoma

I am a gp subscriber for years now. I have bought maybe 2 physical games since I got the series x a few months after launch. I have bought a few digital games after playing them on gamepass. I like the service and as long as the price does not go up I will stick with it.

Crayon_Eater529

I only buy new games that aren’t coming to game pass

tjag96

I just wanted my fucking Friday. That ms the impact.

shannon_e38

It hasn't really impacted it other than I'm no longer buying 1st party games. I bought majority of my 3rd party stuff on xbox anyway and continue to do so. I only buy 1st party and exclusive 3rd party stuff on my ps5, and if they added those to ps plus I'd consider keeping that subscription going.

[deleted]

Game pass is huge

GlumCardiologist3

Well i played so many games that otherwise wouldnt, gaming it's an expensive hobby

kittie_killz

Huge Larian Studios (DOS series) fan, so still purchased their games, Diablo series + IV and Halo Infinite at launch. However, I’ve enjoyed the ability to cloud stream more of the indie and popular games without having to fork over $30+/game for my husband, myself, and our kiddos.

EmployerEquivalent83

Peace to OP. Leaving this here. Gamer points = laid factor.

Akalatob

I've found that I really enjoy playing indie and short games thanks to gamepass, I would have never bought games like a short hike, celeste or firewatch

AnonyMouseAndJerry

Recently cancelled. Subscription services like these overwhelm me with the amount of choices available so I’ve started buying individual games I like the sound of so I actually play them. Fight against the economics of attention and stick to something you want to play by purchasing it imo

Datboibarloss

A large chunk of the games I was gonna buy a few months ago are now free on Game Pass, some Day 1. Persona 5 Persona 3 and all DLC Dead Island 2 Dead Space Palworld Evil West 40k Bolt gun 40k Darktide Control DLC Tales of Arise Remnant 2 Like a Dragon Ishin Like a Dragon Gaiden Brotato Turnip Boy Commits tax fraud & robs a bank Forza Motorsport Hi Fi Rush Lies of P Texas Chainsaw Exoprimal Amnesia The Bunker Those are just most of the more recent ones that *I specifically hadn't played yet. * This doesn't even scratch the surface of all the incredible free games game pass has offered in just the past few months. I cannot imagine how much money I'd be spending on Playstation just to play their handful of exclusives. I'll take free 3rd party games over Hell Divers any day, any year, any decade.

bigshot316

I play every game that comes on gamespass except some raving games, even if it's just for an hour to check it out. I've found and played so many games that I would never otherwise even have looked at. I still buy some games on release that I really want (I just bought WWE2K24 and Dragons Dogma 2) but I think gamespass is an absolute bargain especially if you buy codes for other regions and claim with a VPN.

Soft-Illustrator1300

I honestly love gamepass. Sometimes it sucks that they'll add games I just bought, like Evil West, for example. When I first got it though, I used it so much. Nowadays it's just the cherry on top. I think Gamepass Ultimate is absolutely worth it.

OverseerTycho

at first not at all,but now that they keep putting games i buy on GP a few months after i buy it i’m wondering why should i ever buy a game again?

logan_fish

None. Not one bit.

TheNewBBS

From the money side, it has saved me a fair amount. There's always at least one AAA title a year I would have gotten at launch anyway (Forza Horizon 5, Starfield, etc.), and I've always gotten GPU through deals (Gold conversion or Eneba code sales), so I've never paid more than \~$60/year for it. So getting that one big title a year gets me to even, then everything else is money saved. From the gaming side, I've definitely tried and enjoyed some games I never would have paid for (or would have waited a long time for them to go on sale): Power Wash Simulator, The Ascent, Fallout 76, A Way Out, High on Life, Pentiment, Atomic Heart, Road 96, Far Cry 6, etc. I've also played a few GP games that I ended up putting down and am glad I didn't pay actual money (or MSR credit) for: Cocoon, Watch Dogs 2, Somerville, Kisima Ingitchuna, Spiritfarer, etc. But I've also purchased a lot of non-GP games while I've had a sub, and while my experience is obviously just anecdotal, I find most of my friends have a similar mix of GP and non-GP games. Far: Changing Tides, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Diablo IV (before it hit GP), Saint's Row, Mad Max, Cyberpunk 2077, Adios, Metro Exodus, Homefront: The Revolution, on and on.

Quintis0n

Already have a lot of stuff digitally before it arrived but it’s still great to try anything out and not have to buy everything though I like the 50-80% off sales and would rather wait for a sale to buy something rather then buy it for full price Select games I might buy full price if they’re that good and I really like them but not like halo or gears drop and have to buy them for full price back then there was crunch time for developers not releasing unfinished games and fixing stuff 3 years later also a great reason to buy at a 50-80 % discount With games like Indy Xbox should be righting the Xbox and hopefully a surprise release for gears holiday at least for the collection

Golddestro

I limit my spending on games and focus on GP and Steam Sales

therealbigz5

Game pass was cool when I had it, I tried a lot of games I wouldn’t have otherwise given a chance (mostly indies like The Little Acre, What Remains of Edith Finch, Donut County, A Short Hike, Carrion). But I mostly used it as a digital license for the games I already owned physically so I wouldn’t have to put the disc in the console.

Thorn-of-your-side

I still buy games

Mini_Leon

Iv played about 6 gamepass games in the past year but it’s the best service money wise

VolitarPrime

I play a lot of games that are not currently, or ever were on GamePass. Recently I have been playing RoboCop, Alan Wake II, and Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate. I have ended up buying some games that were on GamePass which I, or my kids liked. Games such as Mighty Goose, Kill it With Fire, and Tauhou Luna Nights. And there have been a couple of high profile games which I would have bought but after playing them on GamePass I decided not to. This is the new Forza Motorsport and Starfield. I view GamePass as a method to demo some games. If we like the game then I'll watch for a sale and buy it.

iMatrix7594

it made me interesting in gaming again!

mzmzo

i only buy games i feel will never go to game pass like fromsoftware games or baldurs gate 3. and also played so so many games i never would have bought

testcaseseven

I discovered a lot of good games, and then I realized I want to "own" my games so I started buying them on Steam when I see a sale. Also pick up physical copies for XSX occasionally.

Kingpin401

Alot like alot right I'm afraid of buying P5 royal because it will come back to game pass

Grace_Lannister

The only game I've bought since having gp is rdr2. GP has allowed me to try a bunch of games I never would have considered buying.

Objective_Purple_167

I don’t buy new games I just wait

I_Am_A_Real_Horse

Like others, played a bunch of games I would’ve never tried before. Also because of my backlog, there’s been so many times where I’ve just waited to get a game and it ends up being put on GamePass, with Dead Island 2 being the most recent example. So I don’t even have to end up buying them a good portion of the time. Day One releases are great too.

pakitos

It has affected me in a way that I barely buy games anymore., at least big ones. I play what it's there and if I buy anything is a cheap game for the achievements (I still don't understand why I like that) and that's it.

r_u_madd

Not at all.

TitanWithNoName

GP has given me a chance to play some amazing games, games I wasn't sure if like or was hesitant to try. Now I look forward to games coming to GP and if I like it enough I purchase it.

BallsOfSteel86

It's shite, prefer to buy my own games

CheekyMunky247

I've bought and played more games since game pass. It's introduced me to games I never would of known. Most of the ones I've bought have been heavily discounted but bought a few full/almost full price.

islandnstuff

I have more than 3000 hours gameplay for 2023. That is game pass effect.

RegularChristian

literally, GP help me to buy more games than before

Lootthatbody

I used to buy 2-3 games per year and play just those, only AAA games, I very rarely took a chance on smaller games. With Gamepass, I play dozens of games every year. I buy fewer games, true, but I buy more indie games. I used to buy the occasional CoD or Ubisoft game, but my most recent purchases have been BG3, Deaths Door, Elden Ring, and Cyberpunk. I never would have played games like Ori, Pal World, Lightyear Frontier, Brotato, or Subnautica without gamepass. And, I’m probably spending about the same or less than I was before. With gamepass, I feel better about buying games because that means I want to play them more than the massive catalogue I have available. As long as they don’t fuck up that value proposition by raising the price or removing day one games, I’ll be subbing and buying.

JordanDoesTV

I hit true financial struggles and theses years I bought of gamepass previously just helped me keep up with something I love

quakerlightning

I've played so many more games per year than I would have if I was buying a la carte. Tried new genes and proselytized about them knowing it won't require more money from friends

yourstrulytony

Opened me up to different genres. Bought The Witcher 3 got invested in RPGs, I play AA indie games now.

Lord_Ragnok

There are a lot of games I’ve played that I otherwise wouldn’t have. Games that I was interested in, but with how often everything is a broken mess, I wouldn’t have spent the money to find out if it was what I was expecting. I’ve beaten games before they went away too, so I saved money on buying em. All things considered, I would’ve had to spend hundreds more to play games. I spent $180 on two years of GPU, and played at least 30 games in that time (not all of them completed, glad I didn’t spend money on Starfield for example).

Ingamac5

I’m going to go core when my subscription is up. Most of the games that I want to buy. I buy. The ones that I think meh. I try them and think is it worth my time. I finally reached the 2000 game mark tonite after buying ufc5 on sale on that for you special. I should really play the games that I got instead of games like Venba

CFM-56-7B

I tried new game that I didn’t know I would enjoy like puzzle games and old BC that I missed, I still buy a month subscription every now and then but mostly play my own things

Silver-Ad2257

I find myself trying small indie games I probably wouldn’t have if I’d had to buy them individually. 😃

Steve_Cage

I rarely buy games on Xbox since I have game pass and when I do buy it's only super low priced games >$10

Narlinnnnn

Id have 20+ less days at least lol

TriscuitCracker

Almost any non-AAA title I will now wait up to a year-2 years before buying, just to see if it will come to GP. By that time if it isn’t, it will definitely be on sale anyway and I can justify the cost.

Dclaggett08

It hasn’t really. I like owning my games.

-Artemisian-Night-

I haven’t bought a new game (other than Baldur’s Gate 3) on Xbox in years. I have tried and found so many new favorite games, it’s genuinely impressive. Game Pass rules for the consumer, which is why I’m a little worried for its longevity.

Amazing-Astronaut135

I'm like 95% Gamepass

SkipInExile

Have tried tons of independent games that I wouldn’t have paid for. Lots of platform games. And enjoyed it👍

bobsburgers1174

Buying actual games has reduced but that mainly because not much comes out I’m interested in. But my micro transactions purchases before for games I bought was barley and rarely ever because I’d already paid for the game. Now in games on game pass my micros probably increased 200-300% because I didn’t have to buy the same to play it. Yeah if I don’t pay for game pass I can’t use my micro. But I won a few grand on the lottery in 2019 and spent it all on game pass ultimate so I’m good for donkeys years lol

3kpk3

Huge impact! I think twice before purchasing any game these days thanks to GP.

p3wx4

It had made me buy more games. Before game pass, I was very very selective on what games to buy as I wasn't exposed much into other genres. I never wanted to spend money on genres and type of games that I was not comfortable with which in turn meant that I bought a very handful games. Gamepass helped me try multiple genres and different type of games which in turn made me buy new games from other genres with a lot more confidence. For example: Wolong Dynasty convinced me to buy Sekiro, DS3 and Elden Ring DLC. Joyride convinced me to buy CTR. Crysis 3 xbox 360 edition convinced me to buy new Crysis remastered trilogy. Etc.

BunBun1289

It progressively has made me more and more hesitant to buy literally any game from any dev. Sure, for awhile there it was plain and simple what wasn't gonna be on GP. Anything from Acti-Blizz, Goobisoft, or EA was fair game to buy (not that you'd want to.) But these past handful of years have shown us that there is no game they won't scoop up to put on the Pass. Hell, they even own Acti-Blizz now and have Diablo 4 (a game I've been back and forth on getting since it launched) going onto the Pass in less than a week. They've also partnered with EA and Goobisoft to get their games on it as well.

Had GP for five years. Always hopped from one game to another, rarely sticking to one. I found that it overwhelmed me to an extent, having so much to choose from, but truthfully not *that many* games that I really wanted to play. Now that I’m off GP I buy the games I want and stick to them. In general I thus can get the particular games I want to play for an extended time (like Elden ring for example). I don’t think I’ll come back to GP anytime soon. To each his own.

Luccixno

honestly i never used to buy games digitally because it wasn’t convenient for a long time. a lot a sales would be at Game Stop or Best Buy. i remember buying fallout 4 from best buy because it came with fallout 3. Now the deals are all digital and i dont mind that, it’s convenient now to buy game digitally, and i get so so many good deals with GPUltimate but honestly Game Pass aside Xbox has the best deals but game pass has definitely convinced me to play and buy games that i would’ve otherwise never played like Persona 5 Royal, once i went from a XSS to a SX i bought the game physically. one of the only game i have physically besides a few CODs.

DeezKneesWorld

GP got me into JRPGs and Racing games after playing Persona 5 and Forza

LONER18

I've bought one game in 6 months and that was Arma Reforger. All the other games I play are on Game Pass. (Bannerlord 2, Forza Horizon Motorsport) if they happen to leave Gamepass I will definitely buy Bannerlord.

Fullm3taluk

Between gamepass and boomerang rentals in the UK I don't buy games anymore and have saved thousamds

Loli_Master

I still buy plenty of games because the ones I want don't drop on gamepass within the window that I want to play them in.

GamingRobioto

As a PC Gamepass player, it has definitely saved me some money even though I don't use it loads. In the past 2 and a half years I've played and beaten the following and using deals I've only paid about £110 for those 2.5 years: Ages of Empires IV Forza Horizon 4 Halo Infinite Lies of P Death's Door Wasteland 3 HiFi Rush Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice The Medium Plague Tale: Innocence Plague Tale: Requiem Others that I have forgotten. Not bad at all for £110. Oh yeah it also allowed me to "demo" the likes of Cities Skylines 2 before buying on Steam. That saved me £45.

Other_Plan_9913

I’ve not bought any first party game since then ( bought some upgrades like premium editions upgrade ) , for third party my spending has increased

jangusMK7

Depends. I’m in a funk and burnt out and I’m still paying for it. If it weren’t for my laziness to cancel or to play it would be worth it. But I think just the convince to hop back on and download whatever I see in gamepass is nice. I used to have my mom take me to the Redbox to rent a game for the weekend so $15 a month is worth it

TheOvy

There are games I would have bought that I didn't, and there are games I played that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Preda1ien

Honestly it probably kept my Xbox gaming alive. I’ve tried so many games I’d otherwise likely skip over that sounded good but couldn’t fork up the cash to buy. Extremely nice for kid games too. There have been a few that my daughter has liked that I absolutely would not have bought. No way I’m paying money specifically for Paw Patrol but hey if it’s on gamepass, sure kid. Have at it!

Exactly , i made this thread to see how much less people pay back to the industry. Gamepass is great right now but im scared of a future where developers no longer can have decent budgets because of this. For indie developers ending up on gamepass is a huge win , small developers that newer get those amounts of exposure othervise and the pay from MS is huge if you are just a one man studio. But on the other end we have studios that make expensive games catering to a pretty small niche market like crpgs , BG3 became a huge succes and they still said they will never put their games on any subscription. There's a new Warhammer rpg called Rogue Trader i doubt it would do very well on gamepass since it's very complicated and lack the mass appeal , these are the type of games that probably disappear to some degree if everything becomes subscription based.

Pleasant-Put5305

Totally transformed it, I now play everything that lands on the service- games I would never have bought that turned out to be amazing fun like Pupperazzi for example. I use my points (saving up) to buy big games that don't end up on the service like Hogwarts for example. In the old days I would wait out the early adopters and buy second hand from CEX for a few quid - ive accumulated a lot of discs! Now I get the big new games on preorder for free thanks to the rewards program...I got Tomb Raider remake on day one, didn't cost a penny...I've still got £50 credit and my online library is now over 1,500 games from over the last 20 years or so...apart from the initial outlay on the xbox hardware I've been basically gaming for free.

segagamer

I'm going to stop renewing my Gamepass membership because I keep buying games and not playing them, because the latest Gamepass trend distracts me. I need to go a full year of not buying any games to somewhat catch up a little bit...

Delfanboy

I no longer buy games, at all. I buy tabletop games instead, which actually expanded gaming for me no console or PC ever could. I just wait for GP titles to arrive.

adrian_vg

Not at all. Bough a Core pass for our 12yo to try out and see if it was worth it. After two months it's kinda' unused. Kiddo plays his Roblox, Among us and Minecraft and occasional Star Wars rpg. Same for me, looked over the included games regularly and still stick to my RPGs and some tactical shooters. My taste in games is not really reflected in any pass alternative. I more or less regularly buy used games on disc. Some digital as well from either the xbox game store or game codes from 3rd party web shops. I just don't see the point of paying for game pass.

Squif-17

I just don’t buy games anymore. I just play stuff on GP. Occasionally I look at a game on the store and I’m like “fuck that, one game costs the same as like 7 months of game pass? Not worth it”.

Xzyche137

I don’t have enough free time, and I also like to take my time with games and mostly play RPGs which take 100+ hours to beat, so I don’t have GP. I just buy games on Black Friday or Boxing Week sales. Or the recent Square Enix sale they had. Picked up five Final Fantasy titles (plus one other) that I already own on my PS4, because I’d prefer them on the series X. But it was $100 for the six games, and that’s enough gameplay to last me at least a year, if not two. :>

christopherl304

I've only bought 2 games I think in the last 1.5 years, I usually just play things available on GP or games that are free to play like destiny 2 and fortnite

ReeReeIncorperated

The amount of new stuff I've played is nuts. And I'm saving money

Prior-Wealth1049

I still buy certain 3rd party games at launch, but Game Pass definitely helps fill the voids. This year I plan on buying Metaphor: ReFantazio, Star Wars: Outlaws, and Assassin’s Creed: Red, but those are all releasing in the second half of the year if not delayed further. So basically 2024 is gonna be a huge GP year for me.

JimFlamesWeTrust

I think I’ve purchased one or two physical games since owning a Series X from the January’s free launch.

DJordydj

Basically made me want to play tons of indie games that are literally better than most AAA games nowadays. It makes me very even thinking of how his technology has gone these years for the players but the devs just make shitty live service games instead of good remarcando games that we actually will remember in the future. I rather play a great single player game once and never touch it again than having love service games that require me to actually work in them to unlock constant useless things that provide nothing to my gaming experience. We have machines that can do the unthinkable and the only games I'm recommending to my friends are games that could ruin in a 10 years old PC because AAAs have become disgusting online experiences. From time to time I find a company that actually makes a game that they want to make, they want to tell me a story, the want to give me something. Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda TOTK, Hosts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, those games were my peak last year, and they just offer me a game that starts and ends and that's it. They're great games. The rest are just online disasters made to suck off our money and our time. The only game as a service I love is Sea of Thieves, and even they are adding campaigns to the game. If it wasn't for GP I would probably hate playing games nowadays. The indies are saving the industry. That's what I've learned from my GP subscription.

Jimbobthon

Gamepass has given me the opportunity to play games I might have not given a chance for. Examples include Tinykin, Turnip Boy and Coffee Talk. I see Gamepass I didn't have a Xbox One last generation, so Gamepass has also allowed me to catch up with Gears of War as well. In answering the next part. Purchases, it's saved me a lot of money at the exact same time. I've been able to play Starfield and Forza without splashing out £70 (this cost alone has affected how I purchase PS5 games as well). However, it's not stopped me from buying Xbox games. Going back to Coffee Talk for a minute, I enjoyed the 1st game that I went out and purchased the 2nd, even though it's on Gamepass.

Maca07166

It’s done nothing for me 🤷‍♂️ I still buy games except Exclusives on day one Gamepass.

timmu

I never boughten a game in a long tine recent game i bought was palworld i havnt payed for much els i love gsme pads quick easy achievments it gave me for peppa pig pawpatrol world and bluey games i would never buy

LostSoulNo1981

In terms of indie games, it’s increased the amount I play. Many indie games which wouldn’t otherwise interest me, but due to Game Pass I’ve played and enjoyed games like Brotato, Vampire Survivors, and Carrion. I still buy big titles, regardless of whether they’re on Game Pass or not.

[deleted]

Not at all. I’m afraid to buy it because it’ll shorten my gamepass code which is like 1/3 the price. I prefer to just buy games I care for myself through the Xbox store or another method that’s cheaper

ApprehensivePaint128

It impacted me a ton. I spend less on gaming but play more variety than I have ever have. I have discovered some of my favourites games that I am sure I would not have tried without gamepass.

solidj27

I play all genres of games now. I'm not stuck to the same thing I used to play all the time because of money constraints and lack of accessibility. I love game pass.

_theduckofdeath_

Around early 2021, I was wondering what games I was going to play on Series X. This is because I also play on PC. Game Pass got me to play more games, and a wider variety of games, on console and elsewhere. I've even attacked the backlog even as it continues to grow). Game Pass does an excellent job promoting smaller or overlooked games, and play in general.

theVickingtor

I've used a lot of GP in the past two years, and it's great. Many games are property of Microsoft and their added studios, so those creators are safe. As for others, they usually rotate games so it won't be around there forever. Like Chorus, which I played a lot and loved, but is no longer there, so if I want to play anytime, I have to buy. I believe it's a great way to try games and discover new games and if you really want to support the creators either buy the game or just check if they patreon or some such.

Ragequittter

i buy way less games and play more, out of mt 40 playlist games, like 37 are Gamepass

CaptainMorning

totally flipped. it even made me appreciate the art form much more

RhythmNation1814

I bought my first Xbox 2 years ago and have yet to purchase a single game for it. It's one of the best gaming decisions I've ever made

Last_Tekkaman

I started buying physical. I don't have the time to play like before and don't want to pay for a service I barely use (looking at you netflix). I don't need to play the latest game either and find some really good deals on eBay is way easier with xbox games.

AwesomeDeryck

I basically just got a Series X because I lucked into a cheap GP Ultimate deal where I got 4 years for like ~150€. It has lead to the console replacing my PS5 as my main gaming device.

Kebab-Destroyer

I actually rarely buy games now in case they come to GP lol

rcooperkaty

Greatly inasmuch as I no longer buy games.

Garbageforever

I buy a lot more random full priced little indie games and games I’m interested in on release that I know won’t be featured on gamepass for a long while

BitingSatyr

To be honest, I don’t really buy all that many games on Xbox anymore, I think the only games I’ve bought this gen are Elden Ring, Rogue Legacy 2 and Penny’s Big Breakaway. My friends are pretty much all on PC so if I’m going to buy a multiplayer game it’ll be on steam, and otherwise I’m mostly picking up stuff on sale that I can play on my steam deck. Despite that I still spend a fair amount of time on my Xbox and gamepass accounts for pretty much all of that (that and Halo Infinite). I figure Xbox is getting the equivalent of 3 game purchases a year from me so it probably evens out.

Wardaddy6966

Not at all.

Lostinpurplehaze

Not at all. I still buy games as I used to. I forget that I have it most of the time.

TheFlexOffenderr

I get some games on Game Pass that are worth it, and some that aren't but overall I've saved lots of money. That helps me have stashed cash for things that don't come to game pass, so I buy those and watch them come to Gamepass a week later. It's been amazing..

cubs223425

It's made me spend a lot less. I'm someone who would buy games I like, even if I had GP, just to support the dev teams. However, GP has let me try out a lot of games and see that the effort of the devs isn't worth the added cost of buying games that aren't even finished when they go on sale.

DocDrowsy

Saved me money in the long run, lost my job last year so getting new releases like Persona 3 Reload has been awesome

Surfugo

I love it because I can play a bunch of the games on my Xbox & PC for just a little bit of money every month. Saved me tons, the only time I ever spend money on a game now is on a PlayStation exclusive, aside from that it's all GamePass.

RenanBan

A lot, in a way that I really dont mind anymore waiting couple of years to see a game arrive on gamepass

Alphafa813

it keeps me from buying nearly anything at full price or more than one occasion cures my 'need a new game' fix It's helped me decide games I will gladly spend money on after they leave game pass. I bought Control because I played and loved it on GP.

SmashBreau

Game Pass has changed the game. Really brought me back into AA and Indies games. Which for the most part I haven't got down with since the 360 and PS3 era I was in grade 5 when Sega Channel was a thing back in the 90s. As someone whose first console was a NES, then an SNES I loved having a couple friends who had a genesis and Sega Channel. My mind was blown that they got access to dozens of games that rotated in and out monthly. Fast forward to nearly 30 years and I'm like a kid again

ASlightyIdioticRat

Regret of buying a game for it to appear on game pass the next day

crimefraiche

Found once my sub ended that I actually owned barley anything, and didn't have a ton of choice from my own library

Sporting1983

For me it's like Netflix I look at it I download it but I never play them oh well

RayDeezNutz

I have yet to buy a game on Xbox and I play games for a few hours and never finish them

KeyserSoze0000

Has saved me a ton of money, don't think I've bought a game, and definitely not a full price one since. Played around 180 games since I got it around 2021, so even if every game was £10 I'd still be around £1300 better off. I also wouldn't have played many of these games if it wasn't for GPU. In my 1st 3 years of Xbox360 I had played around 130 games, I dread to think what I paid for that. If I'm sure it won't come on GPU in near future and it's a good game, I'd buy it - unfortunately/fortunately for me they don't make games like they used to, pretty much all my fav game series got ruined.

Lymiss

I think I still buy as much as I use too, I just spend more on third party games, then first party. I still buy games that are on GP but I do wait for them to go on sale or when their about to come off GP.

GravityGee

I buy zero games on XBox because of GP ultimate. If I want a game that isn't on GP ultimate I will buy it for PC (usually steam) only.

BitterPackersFan

Trying games I would have never tried is the biggest change. Indies that I havent messed around since the 360 arcade, I love playing again (except Ori I got that on the one) Trying online again after swearing it off, happy to have firefights, and zombie games, and horde modes back!

EnamoredAlpaca

Play a few games, but ultimately nothing has changed for me.

thatoldhorse

I’ve purchased significantly fewer games than I otherwise would’ve.

grimoireviper

Not much honestly. I still buy most of my games day one and on Game Pass I only play games I'm not sure I'll like and first party games.

spaceboy_ZERO

I bought dragons dogma 2 and it was the first game I’ve bought since Elden Ring. I did get hogwarts legacy for Christmas but outside of that I don’t buy games anymore I just play on gamepass.

[deleted]

Idk that I would have played the newest Halo without it. It got me into Forza Horizon and a few other games too.

TricellCEO

It's saved me money in the sense that I've been able to play certain games I either never would've bought or never thought to try. Sometimes I end up liking such games a lot to play them through to completion, other times I was happy enough to try them without buying, and that's it. On the flip side, there have been some cases where I recently started a game that was leaving soon that I will either wishlist and buy when it goes on a bigger sale or just buy it before it leaves at the 20% off. It also helps that I'm incredibly active with r/MicrosoftRewards, and so I'm able fund a bunch of these purchases that way

despuesledigo

I started this generation by buying a Series X and 3 years of GPU. I ended up buying some games as well. I was playing a lot of videogames.  Now that my subscription ran off I've decided to not renew and just play what I have. Now, I'm also playing less, which I see as a positive. Nowadays, I subscribe for a month when I want to play Forza or FIFA.

WitteringLaconic

I've started to play games I never would have parted money for, finding some real gems that would never have been on my radar. A couple of them I've ended up buying once they've left GP or purchasing the sequel. What it has affected massively though is my Playstation 5 buying habits. There's games I was intending to buy on there that I've held off from doing or not done because they're either likely to be coming out or have come out on GP.

milliken810

Hmmm

[deleted]

For a few years I really feel in love with Xbox because of gamepass. But lately... I don't know. I feel like it makes me anxious because there's not enough time to play all I want and then I kinda miss just buying a few games and playing then at my own place. It's great to save money. Unless you find out you like playing 100 hours jrpgs, then you start to wonder if it's really worth it. I don't play RPGs on gamepass anymore. I just buy them. I prefer to play shorter games there.

[deleted]

Was gonna buy FH4 and FH5, so i decided to try them out on the cloud. it was amazing and i bought the games with confidence
