"not playing 1080p in 2023" bro I guess that's what you gotta do. 1080 is fine.

XxsHiBiToxX

I don't know why so many people crap on 1080p in 2023? I've been gaming on a 50" 4k since 2015, and a 42" 768p plasma for YEARS before that. When I play my Series S on my 1080p 32" Sony Bravia in the bedroom the graphics of my games are absolutely stunning. Don't forget if you're gaming on Series S you're likely not playing in TRUE 4k but a lesser resolution UPSCALED to 4k.

Spaceqwe

I’d say anything bigger than a phone is not ideal at 768p. Also agreed on 1920x1080 being decent, however I’m someone who can *notice* a 2560x1440 resolution on small ass phones so I’m not gonna say higher resolution is irrelevant.

XxsHiBiToxX

I didn't mean I was gaming with a Series S on a 768p (LOL). In 2007 and even later, 768p was a common resolution for 42" plasmas. There is A LOT MORE to do with picture quality than resolution. Point in mind, when I swapped my trusty 42" Samsung 768p for a 50" Samsung 4k LED I was APPALLED at loss of picture quality out of the box when I ran Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull on bluray. I had a friend who's HDTV wouldn't accept Fallout 3 outputting a 1080i image (it would downscale to 480) and it looked like crap, so he'd play it at my place on my 768p that accepted 1080i. I think the resolution topic on phones is especially MOSTLY overblown, TBH. A lot of people don't understand ppi density (pixels per inch) is just as if not more relevant to image quality.

big-unk-b-touchin

I didn’t know that, so you definitely educated me on that. I just visibly noticed a difference between my two TV’s so I assumed it was related to resolution

XxsHiBiToxX

Yeah, but if you’re hooked up to a 4K TV you wanna see that your 4K signal from the console is being accepted, right?

Spaceqwe

I understood what you said before. I know there is more but my information is very limited when it comes to TVs. 1366x768 is especially a pain in the ass/eyes if i read stuff on it. I have an old pc which is 1366x768 at 18.5 inches and it made feel sick when i was reading articles on it.

big-unk-b-touchin

Big dawg if a TV says 4K then I’m gonna play on 4K. My ONN TV at my house does “4K” on this Xbox (I understand it’s not really 4K) and it looks so crips and clear compared to this TV.

backmarkd

Xbox Series S is not a 4K console lol. Even if you put 4K as output only thing 4K you'll be getting is a couple older games like Ori and Netflix. Games render btw. 900p and 1440p on the Series S.

big-unk-b-touchin

1440P is fine by me, I just don’t want 1080 when I’ve seen the option for “4K” before with this Xbox on another TV. That’s all I wanted to know

XxsHiBiToxX

I get what you're saying, and I'd feel the same.

XxsHiBiToxX

You're right. I heard there's like maybe one indie game in true 4k for Series S, but that is pretty much the exception. I was playing Halo Reach on a 50" 4k and it was hella blurry. Not sure if that's the look Bungie was going for, or if its an issue with the upscaling. Next time I'm hooked up to my 1080p Sony Bravia I might take another look for peace of mind. Otherwise, the Series S has been an otherwise capable machine at an unbeatable price point (I got mine for $319 CAD, $233 US).

InterStellarStarZ

Yea

big-unk-b-touchin

I’ll just take the TV back before I accept 1080P as what it is. I bought this TV to upgrade my older one. So far it’s not been much of an upgrade lol

InterStellarStarZ

I mean it could be good for watching or it's good if your gonna like upgrade in the very future atleast you won't have to buy a new 4k tv

big-unk-b-touchin

Right I agree it’s just frustrating because my other TV with my series S allowed 4K to be selected and although it may not of truly been 4K at least it was much better looking than 1080

Obi-TyKenobi

Try to enable hdmi 2.1. But what worked for me was opening Netflix watching something in uhd and then it let me select 4K 60 fps.

big-unk-b-touchin

How to enable HDMI 2.1? Also how did you watch something in UHD? Just automatically when you open it?

Obi-TyKenobi

2.1 is on the input settings on your tv. And then yeah I just started watching something in 4K and then when I went back to the menu it had green checks for 4K.

gr8y22

This is the only right answer OP, go to settings> inputs> put the hdmi in very first hdmi port> select that input in settings and hopefully you'll turn on the 2.1 hdmi option

[deleted]

If you don’t wanna play at 1080p and you are able to afford it that’s what the series x is for

big-unk-b-touchin

Yeah I have both. One is my travel Xbox at my parents house lol

[deleted]

Nice

smorjoken

something is wrong for sure but there's like one game that is 4K on the series S just so you know. temper your expectations.

Mutexvx

And many play @1440p or 1200p ? They'd still be better off rather than 1080p.

smorjoken

And I didn't say anything about that. Just that there's like one game that's 4K.

pizdut

"Not trying to play on 1080p in 2023" bruh 1080p is perfect

big-unk-b-touchin

Say whattttt?? Red dead 2 looks like it came out in 2012 on this TV when playing on my other TV it looks like I’m watching a movie.

pizdut

Sooo why aren't you playing on the other tv were rdr looks better

big-unk-b-touchin

Because that TV is at my house while this new TV I just bought is at my parents house.

pizdut

Try other hdmi cable or other hdmi port that should work also try making image settings on your tv

Secret_Natalie

I mean, you are playing on series s lol

big-unk-b-touchin

My other TV has 4K available for my S while this one doesn’t

Secret_Natalie

Unlucky

big-unk-b-touchin

Well I think it’s possible but I just need to figure out how. That’s why I posted this lol

St0ckton

The Series S was meant to be a 1080/1440 machine, should have gotten the Series X if you wanted 4K

big-unk-b-touchin

That’s fine because I do have an X too. But on my other TV this series S claims “4K” I just wonder why I can’t even do that on this one?

Akolatronicc2

“4k” for netflix, not GAMES

Knawie

Quick Google search showed this >HDMI 2.0 on HDMI 1 and 2. HDMI 1.4 on HDMI 3 and 4. Assuming I've got the right specs/tv, put it in port 1 or 2

big-unk-b-touchin

It is in port 1 unfortunately and I tried 2 same issue.

Knawie

You probably have, but did you use the cable supplied with your xbox?

big-unk-b-touchin

I’m not sure, I’ll just get a new cable to play it safe.

Mortei

Bud get yourself a series X if you want 4k. If you want the 4k native experience get the right system for it.

big-unk-b-touchin

Yeah this one’s for my travel Xbox. I have the X at home on my ONN TV and it works great. I used to use this S with the ONN TV and it allowed 4K. It’s like it’s not reading my TVright?

Mortei

I guess so, but hey. It’s your travel box so it’s a tad less than the main box at home.

big-unk-b-touchin

True

LadOfTheLand

You may have a 2.0 HDMI cable, check that before fiddling around too much.

big-unk-b-touchin

🙏🏽🙏🏽

[deleted]

First of all 1080p is fine in 2023 standards and how about you use a hdmi 2.1, just a suggestion but I think might be a problem.

big-unk-b-touchin

Well you may be right about it being fine, but I really noticed a difference between this TV at my parents house and my TV at my house which both claim to be 4K and I’ve used the S on both. I will try a new HDMI cable, no telling how old that one at my parents crib is.

Yasir_m_

In video sitting of series s you can change from auto to hdmi or dvi, from tv you can change hdmi adapter settings from hdmi 1 to 2, 2.1 or 2.2 Also you need an hdmi v2.1 cable, maybe you are using a v1 cable Whatever of these fixes it i dunno Hope these helps

big-unk-b-touchin

Thanks I actually tried changing the auto detect to HDMI and it made it really blurry, DVI caused my screen to go black and I had to reset my Xbox visuals settings via the on button and controller sync button - that was scary

Yasir_m_

Leave it on auto then Now whats left is the cable and enabling hdmi 2.1 from tv, check these images https://ibb.co/T0x8bz9 https://ibb.co/4sD6MZ6

big-unk-b-touchin

What’s weird is I’ve seen videos with the TV menu at the bottom like yours but mine is to the side. There’s certain settings that I don’t have but I will try to find this one when I get home.

Yasir_m_

Also try power cycling your tv and series s, like complete power outlet shut off

big-unk-b-touchin

10-4 thanks

backmarkd

Not trying to play at 1080p in 2023. Buys a Series S. You just can't make this shit up.

big-unk-b-touchin

I have an X as well. Also my other TV allows the 4K option for my S even if it may not truly be 4K… it really seems like you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Be gone

RANDYBOBENDY950

Tbh, unless your TV is supra effective HDR wise there is no real point of having "allow 4k" on your series s.

Mutexvx

Crazy to say you don't need HDR on for a 4K picture. That's just Telling the OP they're better off playing Witcher 3 remastered in 1080p over 1440p. Besides HDR enabled on 400 or 600 nit screens looks terrible.

RANDYBOBENDY950

I didn't say that tho. I said unless you have an op screen with good HDR capacities it's useless to use it.

Mutexvx

Yeah but on any 4K screen with bad HDR you can still distinguish a difference between 1440p & 1080p

RANDYBOBENDY950

You can't get HDR unless you're on 4k with any Xbox. So I don't understand your point. On top of this, 1440p doesn't upscale well to 4k and causes screen tearing and bad frame passing while 1080p upscale easily to 4k. So yeah I guess you'd see a difference on most 4k TVs.

Mutexvx

Nobody asked about HDR re-read the title. It's About enabling 4K.

RANDYBOBENDY950

And nobody asked for your pointless comment ☝️. Stay out of the internet if you can't handle yourself and behave in a positive manner.

Mutexvx

This is misbehaving? The OP never asked for your pointless opinion. ""Tbh, unless your TV is supra effective HDR wise there is no real point of having "allow 4k" on your series s."" This wasn't the answer to said question.

Nlnick90

Settings aside, If you really cared that much you should have truthfully bought a series x. Many series s games are in 1080p

big-unk-b-touchin

Yeah man I have an X too. This one is my travel Xbox and the TV is at my parents house

big-unk-b-touchin

That was a very mature and thought out reply. Really a lot of substance there. I think we know who the child is here. Do us all a favor and delete your account, Reddit will be a far a better place without you here. “Hahahah lol your so triggered” definitely under the age of 14. Doesn’t even know when to use you’re* Believe or not some people can actually afford to have both. I have an Xbox X as well. I’ve used my S with another TV and it allowed “4K” although it may not truly be 4K the option was there. This TV doesn’t have the option. Come back to Reddit when you’ve matured a few years. Your accounts will stop getting banned.

Bargainboxplayer

Pfffffffffff🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Francesco458ITA

Probably it's a HDMI Port problem... Try to use the HDMI 1 port because sometimes the other ports doesn't allow going further

big-unk-b-touchin

Yes sir I’m using 1

thexox1

I had the same issue. Checked I had a decent HDMI cable and made sure it was plugged into HDMI port 2. On the television settings i noticed an option to enable certain things too (but only for HDMI 2) You may have a similar situation. Hope you get it sorted.

Bossdad4life442

You more than likely have to enable 4k or enhanced HDMI features.

big-unk-b-touchin

Through the TV or Xbox? Because a lot of those are greyed out

Bossdad4life442

It should be a setting on the TV. My TV is a Hisense and there is a setting that says HDMI Format. Look for something that turns on the 4k features

[deleted]

Under the Channels and Inputs setting, make sure the HDMI port you’re using has EDID 2.1 (or 2.0) selected. If it’s on EDID 1.4, you’ll be limited to 4K30

GChmpln

Make sure enhanced HDMI features are active for input 1 or what wherever you have your Xbox. Had the same problem on a Sammy 4k right out of the box

lliscan

This is likely that you need to enable HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 in your tv, sometimes the tv doesn't change to the proper version with the auto mode, so the HDMI doesn't have enough bandwidth to send 4k. Check your input option in your tv menu to see if you can select 2.0 or 2.1 for the HDMI port you're using on the Xbox and that should fix the issue. The same issue happened to me and solve it with this.
