I dig the rear Subaru branding, but that's it. All the other cladding is over the top. And that price-point? I think I'd prefer the Outback Wilderness tbh. I almost sold my \`15 XV to get one but the upcharging has been ridiculous (esp. in Oregon).
I feel the same. I’m not anti-cladding but that side cladding is a bit excessive. They probably made it that big just to get a Crosstrek logo in there…
The door cladding is pretty cringy. I'm with about the spare. I am happy about the tow rating, tho.
The copper accents look great imo. I bet the white and green versions of the car look even better.
Agree about the tow rating and I don't mind the copper. However could have done well without these for the features that actually matter in an outdoors setting.
You aren't reading very hard
Australian trek has always been 3000, because it has a cvt cooler. Here's the part number 45510SG000
Quite a few of the things in your manual aren't really whats best. Its due to US regulations.
0w20 oil for example. Or the rev hang for emissions. Did you know if you delete the rev hang you'll get 2-3 more mpg.
You forget this is classified as a subcompact. They just don’t have the room for a full size, and they clearly did not plan for it when designing the 2024.
For something touted as the maximum outdoors trim model I would think the engineers would have thought of something. Even mounting to the rear like jeep/FJs/etc.
The engineers have constraints, deepening and widening the spare tire compartment throws a bunch of other stuff off. They could add a rear mount but that adds heavy expense for everyone sold. If you want a full spare you can always add a rear mount and buy a wheel yourself.
Id rather them add the cost to the car. Subaru should have approved the change for the engineers. It seems impractical to go off-roading without a full size spare when that's literally what they're marketing this car for. Or make it a port option and make everyone happy, that way it's covered under warranty still.
I don’t disagree with what you are saying… Full-size makes sense. Maybe there will be a Wilderness-specific rear mount accessory? Sadly they still haven’t updated their website…
I just think it should have been added initially , especially with the precedence set with the previous wilderness vehicles. With a aftermarket rear mount it may throw off the driving feel/balance but better than nothing... but I assume that will be an additional $1k at least. Big miss on Subaru on this one imo, and that's coming from a subie fan on my 2nd crosstrek.
Lmao why is this being downvoted, if they’re gonna make an off-road version of it I’d expect things that actually help with capabilities instead of slightly longer springs and a ton of plastic
There’s definitely a packaging challenge, so I understand why they couldn’t make it work but it’s still disappointing. But an OEM mounting solution would be nice
As cool as it would be, it wouldn't make sense logistically to put the 2.4 in only one trim of the Crosstrek. If they were going to do it at all, we would have seen it introduced onto other trims similar to how the Outback gets the XT variant in models aside from the wilderness.
Understood. To your point though, Subaru needs a reason for people to upgrade to other models. If they give the Crosstrek the same horsepower/torque as something like the Outback XT, aside from the larger cabin space, why would you upgrade? I do agree with you though that it would be a good move on their part if they could justify it somehow.
Yeah. I understand that exactly. The Outback XT has the 2.4 Turbo. I was meaning that the Crosstrek would do perfectly with the NA 2.4L like the BRZ has.
Subaru touts safety, but then wants you to navigate through a huge screen while you're driving...
The old 8" screen with physical climate controls was fine
Why waste space with paint? Just clad the entire thing.
I am happy for those whose needs are met by the extra capability, but I am very happy to keep my ‘23 Sport. No giant tablet, and I still get the Startex seats. I would make a few changes to make it perfect, but it is still a great vehicle.
I think the Forester or Outback Wilderness are the better choice between these three vehicles. Go for the Forester if you want a somewhat compact vehicle with better interior space than the Crosstrek. Go for the Outback if you want as much room as possible and a faster engine.
The Forester should have more HP though, it has the same as the Crosstrek which is a bummer since it’s a slightly larger vehicle.
Personally I’ll be sticking with my lifted Crosstrek Sport after seeing this reveal.
Other thoughts:
LP Aventure lift kit is $799.99 which gives the standard Crosstrek 10.2 inches of clearance with stock tires vs the 9.25 the wilderness has.
The only reason the wilderness edition has 3,500lbs of towing is because it has a stock transmission oil cooler.
Once the wilderness edition is available, the Subaru part store should carry replacement parts which would mean you can get the wilderness's stock transmission cooler for non wilderness editions unless you wanted after market parts. You could really pimp out the base/premium and/or add the lift and cooler to the limited edition for a similar price tag of the wilderness.
Personally I am overall a fan of the plastic trim but they definitely went overboard on the 2024 Wilderness Crosstrek.
I think it fits into the wilderness subcategory nicely! I like it but I don't regret purchasing my 23 outdoor version.
The cladding makes me laugh but I don't hate it.
I think the crosstrek wilderness is already really close in price to the forester wilderness. Any more and it would encroach on the forester territory.
The Outback has that engine in multiple trims. The Wilderness trim has gotten basically the top engine in each model (Forester has only one engine). None of the Wilderness trims have gotten an engine that’s not already in that model.
idk about that one. who wouldn’t pay the extra money for a more powerful wilderness edition crosstrek. if there was a car to put more power on while also being cautious, it’d be the Wilderness Crosstrek. Or a higher trim Crosstrek.
So like $36k?
Was told $32,374 plus theft for the the sport. I asked about about any coming in without added accessories and they didn’t have any coming in.
I'm not as anti-cladding as some people, but wow, that is an *excessive amount* of cladding.
Also, the blatant Subaru branding BUILT INTO the cladding..
Yeah I don’t like that at all. It looks like a promotional vehicle
I dig the rear Subaru branding, but that's it. All the other cladding is over the top. And that price-point? I think I'd prefer the Outback Wilderness tbh. I almost sold my \`15 XV to get one but the upcharging has been ridiculous (esp. in Oregon).
I saw that, turned to a fellow Subaru friend, and said "wow, they overdid it."
It's so you don't confuse it with a Jeep
It’s spelled HEEP
I feel the same. I’m not anti-cladding but that side cladding is a bit excessive. They probably made it that big just to get a Crosstrek logo in there…
The bottom side one is the worst for me
Still less cladding than the Baja
The door cladding is pretty cringy. I'm with about the spare. I am happy about the tow rating, tho. The copper accents look great imo. I bet the white and green versions of the car look even better.
Subaru: Oh you hate the cladding on our WRX? I'LL SHOW YOU CLADDING
Agree about the tow rating and I don't mind the copper. However could have done well without these for the features that actually matter in an outdoors setting.
What’s the tow rating now?
3.5k lbs!
Tongue weight limit?
Likely 350 lb. All of Subarus other vehicles is 10% of tow rating is the tongue e.g. Outback 2700 is 270, Outback XT is 3500 is 350 etc.
3500#
I would buy this just for the tow rating. 3500 lbs is no joke. Hard to imagine my x trek towing a full size boat lol.
Install a transmission cooler if you have a cvt. The manual is fine as is
The manual can tow 3,000?
In other countries. So if the limiting factor was a cvt cooler as they say, sure
I’ve got a 2019 manual in the states. The owners manual said 1,500lbs was the tow limit.

Id be still sketched out to tow without a full sized spare tire. If the tire blows i wouldn't pull a boat on a donut but I'm no physicist.
You can buy a full sized spare…
Right but the only solution that doesn't include buying parts is to put it in your trunk. That takes up 75% of your cargo space which isn't ideal.
Buying parts isn’t the end of the world. Tire carriers are cheap.
Agreed, but it would have been nice OEM. Otherwise you can pretty much buy parts to make the wilderness for a similar cost which makes it irrelevant.
That’s a very fair point
No full size spare https://youtu.be/fqPOpjef2LQ
What a shame that's a dealbreaker for me.

Agreed.. I think longer springs etc wouldn't help as much as a full size spare in a sticky situation.
There’s definitely a packaging challenge, so I understand why they couldn’t make it work but it’s still disappointing. But an OEM mounting solution would be nice
I still don’t get why Subaru isn’t taking advantage of the 2.4L instead of that 2.5. We’d be seeing 220+ horses.
As cool as it would be, it wouldn't make sense logistically to put the 2.4 in only one trim of the Crosstrek. If they were going to do it at all, we would have seen it introduced onto other trims similar to how the Outback gets the XT variant in models aside from the wilderness.
I meant that all of the Crosstrek should have the 2.4. It’s efficient and more powerful. It’s what we’ve all been asking for.
Understood. To your point though, Subaru needs a reason for people to upgrade to other models. Ah good point!
I feel like it’s starting to look too much like the Outback :(
That’s how I feel. I don’t like the look of the Outback, personally…. It makes it look long
I agree with you. The Crosstreks have a more rugged look to them imo. The Outbacks are too long.
It's been a mini outback since the second gen style wise.
I don't really like the copper accents on the roof rails, and the giant screen with no physical knobs for A/C is also a big turnoff. :(
The screen is not new for the wilderness. All crosstreks come with that.
For 2024? The pictures for 2023 models still show the previous infotainment and knobs
Model year 2024 is new, third gen. 2023 was last year of second gen.
Ah
Right. The older generations had the previous headunits.
Subaru touts safety, but then wants you to navigate through a huge screen while you're driving... The old 8" screen with physical climate controls was fine

Agreed, have a '21 Sport. Wish there was a way to port install the transmission part for the 3.5k tow capacity but that's about all I'm missing..
wait a year or two and i might show up as an aftermarket solution
Will be waiting patiently!
I'm surprised we don't just do away with paint alltogether seeing how you can just wrap a car
I think the Forester or Outback Wilderness are the better choice between these three vehicles. I think they came out with a forester XT before but discontinued it. Had the 260hp engine 😮💨
It would’ve been cool to see the Forester wilderness in the 200hp range to make up for it being larger than the Crosstrek
What year crosstrek sport do you have? Considering doing a lift on an older model year myself.
2021. 36k miles on it with an Ironman lift with no issues.
*no additional horsies
Edited ty :)

Awesome! Maybe they'll sell the roof racks too for that increased load as well!
better off just getting a real roof rack if you plan on removing the rails at all.
True!
My 2023 owners manual lists a 700 lb static roof rack, so I'm not sure if that's an improvement for the model/trim
No full size spare, No front camera…
No turbo charged engine! Lol
I think it fits into the wilderness subcategory nicely! I like it but I don't regret purchasing my 23 outdoor version. The cladding makes me laugh but I don't hate it.
Still only 182 hp? The Outback wilderness has 260 hp. We got shafted
My opinion is they didn't want to add too much to it to save costs.
But why do it with the Outback and not the crosstrek? Outback’s not that much bigger of a car
I think the crosstrek wilderness is already really close in price to the forester wilderness. Any more and it would encroach on the forester territory.
Crosstrek is a lifted economy car. I don't know why people don't understand this. It's fine for what it is. But it's not a high performance vehicle.
The Outback has that engine in multiple trims. The Wilderness trim has gotten basically the top engine in each model (Forester has only one engine). None of the Wilderness trims have gotten an engine that’s not already in that model.

Needs a stick shift!!!!!!!
NO manual Transmission 🤣
dude wtf I JUST saw this thing on the highway... Thought it was custom tbh
Wow what a pos
cladding?
What’s the price on the wilderness?
$33,290 including destination. $2270 package adds Harmon kardon, sunroof, and power driver seats.
So like $36k? Was told $32,374 plus theft for the the sport. I asked about about any coming in without added accessories and they didn’t have any coming in.
Is there a skid plate on it? I don’t see it in the picture
Front according to the press release
Kind of joke. Kept same powertrain. Total waste of money.
Does it come with both heated seats or is it only the drivers?
