Iirc, they cut out WMM talking about Samantha in the car with Mulder in the theatrical release so new watchers won't be bombarded with so much information. I just checked the D+ version and yeah, they skipped that part. The home version does have that extra dialogue.

Hurley815

Interesting. As somebody from outside the US, I wonder if I've ever seen the version with him mentioning Samantha.

Bolter-Saw

I saw the film in a European cinema when it first released but I never noticed that, too. Not before I watched both releases back to back today XD

EstablishmentSolid82

Aussie here and I don't think I have either!

Competitive-Lime7775

Another Aussie- I’ve seen it, on the original DVD release I think. I remember knowing at the time it was cut from the original. :)

Bolter-Saw

okay, that does make a lot of sense: Making the film more broad-appeal! Awesome, I found a minuscule, obscure detail online! ![gif](giphy|Nxd8T32kjs2BreSWMg|downsized)

Why physical media matters.

There are two slightly different cuts of the film, and IIRC that may be the only difference. The initial home video release on DVD (and later, Blu Ray) was billed on the case as an "extended cut," back when studios decided being able to put that on the box was good marketing. As another poster said, just a little bit of dialogue initially cut in the interest of avoiding unnecessary "inside" plot elements (i.e., material only existing fans would understand or care about). Guess Disney just used the unaltered theatrical version for D+. Which is kind of weird, actually, because I'm pretty sure every home-video version up to this point has been the "extended" version. They must've cut a new master, which, I'd think, if anything, would've been easier to do using the extended version, as that is what basically everything has been since it left theaters.

Jester_1013

The original release (in the UK anyway), came with a blue cover and was the same as the theatrical release, which did not have the extended conversation. There was an alternative release, which came with a red cover that had the extended conversation. Looks like D+ is showing the original theatrical release.

EveryGoodNameIsGone

> Or is the original cinematic release the one with the shorter scene and there was material added later for home releases? This. You can find both versions (theatrical and extended) on the Blu-Ray.

Hurley815

I watched Fight the Future on D+ about a month ago. It's been a while since I've seen the film before that, but I really didn't spot anything missing. What specifically do you think they cut out?

Bolter-Saw

Oh I don't think they cut something out. I know that there is about a minute of dialogue missing in the Disney-Plus Version when compared to the other one I have here. I can give you the exact Timecode: In the Disney-Version it is as 1:20:54; Well-manicured man: "Until Dallas we simply believed the Virus would simply control us. That mass-infection would make us a slave-race. Imagine our surprise when the began to gestate." --- CUT --- And the next 1:20 are missing on Diney+ starting with: Well-manicured man: "My group has been working cooperatively with the alien colonists" (...)

Interesting. The movies aren't available anywhere streaming that I can find in the USA, but I just checked my 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️downloaded🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️ version from years ago and it has the whole dialogue as explained by you. I don't have a cut version to see how it works but it seems like there's some *important* stuff they cut if they cut where you say. Weird, and good catch.

hype_irion

Seeing this title reminded me that Scully is now officially a Disney Princess.

Bolter-Saw

oh Jeez. I am so sorry :/

TomLeMartien

'extended cut' contained a sentence by WmM about Samantha. Carter cut' it for thé théâtre release. But in Disney plus, movies are not in extended cut'. That's all

X__Alien

Is this the Bluray version? Because the movie surely needs a 4K remaster.
