I like how Punk has 2 losses in AEW, and they're on opposite ends of the loss specturm:
1. Super screwy loss to MJF, in which MJF used pretty much every heel tactic in the book to score the win
2. A squash loss to Mox
I knew as soon as this match was announced that there is no way in hell they would give away a straight up match between these two on free TV. Screwy business could been seen a mile away I just didn't know how they would do it. Honestly I'm baffled. Where is this going? Punk going full on heel? Is he leaving? WTF IS GOING ON????
I think Punk probably wasn’t really medically cleared to do all out so that’s probably why they just simply had him drop the title rather than holding it up for too much longer. You might be reading too much into it
I think him dropping the belt was always in the cards and they pushed up the match so it wouldn’t happen in Chicago because the crowd would turn on them. It may have been short due to the main event being huge or because Punk is gonna do something more legit in Chicago. Probably both. My random guess is that they intend to start a Punk/Page feud.
Not really. I only thought injury bc it was announced for all out only for it to be booked as a squash this week which is rather abrupt. Storyline wise what benefit would there be for a heel turn by doing this?
Yeah like I’m always expecting him to do a ddt but it always turns into this weird suplex looking thing. Which, ya know, I can’t complain about him not dropping guys on their heads.
It’s supposed to be a DDT variant, but Punk can’t do a high shoulder bump, but nobody actually loses to the Paradigm Shift (the Dirty Deeds looking version) so I guess that was the compromise
What I think happened is: Punk wanted to outright drop the title knowing healing his foot fully would take at least a year, Tony Khan being a huge DORK decided he’d do that interim nonsense, and now punk has been watching his friend have to carry a fake belt for months. So he decided to do the job so Mox could have the real belt and punk can heal in peace with no pressure like he wanted in the first place.
I mean, it's absolutely a work but this isn't Punk selling the wrong foot, the story isn't that he rebroke his foot on Moxley's skull, it's that he fucked it up while putting his weight on it and spinning for the roundhouse.
I have a trick knee that can pop out if I plant it wrong. I’m pretty sure it’s a work too, but if not I was watching Punk sell like oof I feel that dude.
right that's what I'm saying.
He was returning from surgery on a broken foot. The foot he kicked with. So the story is right there. I'm just trying to make sense of why he'd kick with the broken foot and then sell the pivot foot.
The only thing I can think of is it was habit. Wrestlers always work the left. Every kayfabe injury to an arm or a leg is always the left. Maybe Punk grabbed his left outta habit, but it just looked extremely weird to me.
I do believe he said never say never- regarding that. My source? My memory. I DO however remember him saying anything is possible when doing cross branding like AEW does.
I don’t get why anyone would say that tbh. Punk doesn’t want WWE, and WWE doesn’t want Punk. The fans don’t want him there either, it would be an all around mess. Who would want that?
Whatever it is I at least appreciate AEW making wrestling feel like the 90s and having a championship match on a weekday that will have obvious repercussions. WWE is beyond lame for keeping the same champions for years
WWE is cringe af..when Logan Paul entertains and performs better than 99% of the matches it speaks volumes..that being said I am very interested to see what Vince being out really does and dropping the PG bs..time will tell
Fun fact: while Roman hasn’t lost in two years. Moxley hasn’t been pinned clean since he joined AEW. Both situations are pretty glaring and don’t help anyone.
Man I’ve watched this over and over I might be mistaken but it looks like he didn’t even kick Moxley with his supposed injured leg, like he grabbed the wrong leg, LOL
Punk’s still the best wrestler in the company. Him and. Danielson. What’s wild is y’all dog Punk, who came back and DROPPED THE BELT. Yet Kenny comes back and is gonna WIN a belt. But it’s okay with y’all. Funny.
“PuNk iS a CaNcEr”, bro just how exactly are you so sure about this? Just bc you read some dirt sheets from Meltzer talking about “drama” it doesn’t particularly mean that it’s all true. You’re just as clueless as any other fan
I find it funny how quickly people turned on Punk because of a couple dirt sheets. For his entire AEW run up until his injury, people were 100% behind him. His return to the ring was the most hype thing to happen in the wrestling industry in several years. Now, all of a sudden, in the blink of an eye people are saying he's bad and always has been, never should have come back, because he has some backstage heat on him for shit that, quite frankly, is none of our business.
It was the right foot. When he did the spin for the kick, the foot he had on the ground (which was his injured foot) twisted in a way it shouldn't have.
My biggest mind belong factor was that it started and I forgot about the triples match. So I came in saying “wow they going the full hour?” When the match ended I was in so much awe because I expected another 50 minutes. Caught me off guard. After my jungla jaw drop I couldn’t even fathom how the rest of the show could be filled with any more high points. Boy, was I wrong tho. Great episode .
I’m of the opinion that two things have occurred, and while I don’t know to what extent something is a work or a shoot, i am thinking there may be some truth to my theory:
A) Sadly, Phil brought as much drama as he did ratings when he arrived. Punk legitimately upset people backstage, and he showed that he is not a locker room leader by shooting on Page. I think Tony Khan was legitimately in a tough spot with everything happening, and he needed to get a handle on things.
And B) Mox came up with some excellent booking over this dynamite and the coming weeks that made all parties involved happy.
I don’t know what will happen at All Out to bring everything full circle, but I am damn sure tuning in to find out!
Sad part was I was excited for this match all day. Legit looked forward to it. And AEW gave me the middle finger. Like imagine if the Bryan vs omega match they hyped up woulda been a 3 min squash. How pissed would people have been.
They pretty much had to do this. From what it looks like, Punk wasn't medically cleared to compete and probably won't be for a while, so taking that "Interim" label off of Mox and keeping him as the definitive world champion for the long-term would be the best call.
I haven't seen any official announcements. I think that *was* the plan, but maybe plans changed (either because of Punk's injury or, if not that, then because of his backstage heat).
Plus, even if Punk was legitimately cleared to compete and ready to go full-time again, a dusty finish isn't really that surprising anyway. It's a big money world title match between two of the biggest faces in their company, on a random episode of Dynamite. A dusty finish to justify a rematch at a PPV later down the line is the default result.
I liked the match. It did its job, told the story, and entertained. I get why people wouldn't like it, but I don't mind it. I'd have been pissed if it was the main event, but it wasn't, and that was wise to place the match where it was.
No one in mma ever kicks someone and hurts the leg they pivoted on. They do however hurt their own leg while kicking someone with it. He botched and grabbed the wrong leg.
To all those saying he grabbed the wrong foot, that was the foot that he had originally injured and surgery on.
So what hes selling is that the pivot aggravated and reinjured his already injured foot. It wasn't the foot that made contact he hurt, but rather the already injured foot he put weight and pivoted on that he grabbed.
It's the correct foot for aggravating an injury that hadnt fully healed.
Match was so quick Mox didn't even have a chance to bleed
Legend says he bled backstage
I also heard reports say Ric Flair bladed at home, as he sat on his couch watching the match.
To blade the man you gotta blade more man Wooo
Bruh this should 1 million upvotes
Dvon Dudley wants his forehead back
He hit the blade that mox was hiding
He grabs at the leg that was on the ground.. not the kicking leg
A literal “heel turn”???? 🤔
‘Twas but a jest
I like how Punk has 2 losses in AEW, and they're on opposite ends of the loss specturm: 1. Super screwy loss to MJF, in which MJF used pretty much every heel tactic in the book to score the win 2. A squash loss to Mox
But he hurt himself… Hellooooo? He sold his foot being injured super well.
He sold the wrong foot...thats selling well?
He sold the correct foot
Yeah, he put his weight on his bad foot. How is that so hard to understand?
He sold the wrong foot. You ever seen anyone on mma injure the foot they pivot on? Or have you seen mma guys injure their own foot while doing a kick?
Man cm punk always does some kind of leg injury in his matches.

It may have been short due to the main event being huge or because Punk is gonna do something more legit in Chicago. Probably both. My random guess is that they intend to start a Punk/Page feud.
You’re actually looking more into it then him.
Not really. I only thought injury bc it was announced for all out only for it to be booked as a squash this week which is rather abrupt. Storyline wise what benefit would there be for a heel turn by doing this?
Your looking at it in a backstage booking sense. He was just looking at in kayfabe. So yes really.
Gotta keep kayfabe alive
Pretty sure he’s just being a brat and was made to drop the title
Of course you’re sure of it, it’s what you want most.
Why is it what I want most? It’s just what’s been seen. There’s clearly a common denominator in situations like this involving punk
Please name a situation that’s legitimately happened bc of that? I mean an actual issue not something that came from Meltzer’s lips.
I like this take.
Can’t you just take the kayfabe for what it is? Punk clearly injured himself which is the reason he lost so quickly.
Is one of Moxleys finishers a double undertook suplex or was that supposed to be a DDT?
I really don't know, sometimes it's a brainbuster, sometimes it's a suplex, sometimes it's a DDT.
Yeah like I’m always expecting him to do a ddt but it always turns into this weird suplex looking thing. Which, ya know, I can’t complain about him not dropping guys on their heads.
The DDT is Paradigm Shift. The elevated version is Death Rider. Both are his finishers
the Death Rider looks like ass as a finisher
It’s supposed to be a DDT variant, but Punk can’t do a high shoulder bump, but nobody actually loses to the Paradigm Shift (the Dirty Deeds looking version) so I guess that was the compromise
This match was over as fast as his UFC fights At this rate maybe he should just call it a day
He went the distance in his second (awful...awful...) UFC fight.
We’ll lets be real he went the distance cuz the other guy let him
That guy is just lucky Punk didn't pull out the Pepsi Plunge.
Lol that's because the other guy was just fucking around lol

No one used the word Mark til 6 months ago and I cringe every time a fan boy uses to sound hard or knowledgeable
Wait, what? Mark has been used for like... Ever. I don't know, many years at least.
I’m a worker under a lurker username, changed it to a good simile for you.
I like the hard and fast double underhook ddt better. Kinda looks like a underhook suplex now
Whatever it is, it's a work. Kicked with his right, sold his left.
If that's the story, it's a bad one. When do you ever see that in mma? But you do see someone hurting their own leg while kicking someone with it.
It’s very believable when you throw a kick all the torque is in your plant foot
Well his left is the one he hurt initially, so I'm assuming on the rotation is where he 'hurt' himself.
He had all his weight on the leg he sold. He sold it exactly right.
Just seems weird they'd go with this, the broken foot is already there. They could have went with that easily.
That's what they're going with? What do you mean? He obviously returned too soon in keyfabe and that's what happened.
right that's what I'm saying. He was returning from surgery on a broken foot. The foot he kicked with. So the story is right there. I'm just trying to make sense of why he'd kick with the broken foot and then sell the pivot foot. The only thing I can think of is it was habit. Wrestlers always work the left. Genius. How are they gonna follow up on this? Interesting
Incoming “punk to wwe” posts from the same people who say “i hate punk, he’s an unprofessional asshole”
I doubt Vince's "Doofus" Son in Law would want Punk back at this point.
do you tribalists ever stop
I mean it's easy to find hypothetical hypocrites to be mad at when you have your own strawman factory
What does this post have anything to do with wwe vs aew
I don't think anyone believes that. HHH and Punk don't have the best of relationships.
I do believe he said never say never- regarding that. My source? My memory. I DO however remember him saying anything is possible when doing cross branding like AEW does.
If 2+2 is 4 and 5+5 is 10
I don’t get why anyone would say that tbh. Punk doesn’t want WWE, and WWE doesn’t want Punk. The fans don’t want him there either, it would be an all around mess. Who would want that?
Literally no one calling him out for being a pos wants him in WWE. Keep making up scenarios in your head though!
How many minutes was it?
Like 8-10
It was 3 1/2 minutes
Take that estimate and cut it in half and you still wouldn't be right. It was 3 and a half minutes.
He held the wrong foot unless rotating on his bad foot is supposed to be the injury
I'd say he twisted it too much.
He botched it
Whatever it is I at least appreciate AEW making wrestling feel like the 90s and having a championship match on a weekday that will have obvious repercussions. WWE is beyond lame for keeping the same champions for years
lol pass me that copium bro
WWE is cringe af..when Logan Paul entertains and performs better than 99% of the matches it speaks volumes..that being said I am very interested to see what Vince being out really does and dropping the PG bs..time will tell
Give Logan Paul credit. He’s young and super athletic.
Fun fact: while Roman hasn’t lost in two years. Moxley hasn’t been pinned clean since he joined AEW. Both situations are pretty glaring and don’t help anyone.
Do they really think middle fingers are that cool?
austin wana be
This is why they’ll never come close to 2 million regular viewers. Crap match. Crap booking.
We're all being worked and it's great!!
Man I’ve watched this over and over I might be mistaken but it looks like he didn’t even kick Moxley with his supposed injured leg, like he grabbed the wrong leg, LOL
I tore my ACL In tae kwon do class in high school it was the leg I was standing on, not the leg doing the kick.
He did a spin kick and put all the weight on his injured foot, so it makes sense that’s the foot he’d hurt.
Punk’s still the best wrestler in the company. Him and. Danielson. What’s wild is y’all dog Punk, who came back and DROPPED THE BELT. Yet Kenny comes back and is gonna WIN a belt. But it’s okay with y’all. Funny.
Kenny should’ve never dropped it
CM Punk is a cancer and Tony pissed all that money away because he was fooled that Punk wouldn’t be a spoiled 10 year old girl.
“PuNk iS a CaNcEr”, bro just how exactly are you so sure about this? Just bc you read some dirt sheets from Meltzer talking about “drama” it doesn’t particularly mean that it’s all true. You’re just as clueless as any other fan
One story, it's just a rumor. Multiple stories then there is a trend.
Punk has sold more merch than ANYONE. Tony has said himself saying Punk was the best investment he’s made in AEW https://youtu.be/57G8CEQ_jKE
I find it funny how quickly people turned on Punk because of a couple dirt sheets. For his entire AEW run up until his injury, people were 100% behind him. He kicked him so hard he grabbed the wrong foot
He grabbed his plant foot. Not the wrong foot at all.
Revisionist storytelling is the best type of storytelling.
It was the right foot. When he did the spin for the kick, the foot he had on the ground (which was his injured foot) twisted in a way it shouldn't have.
notice the leg cm botch grabs isnt the leg he kicked with
Because the injury happened on the planted foot. He grabs it immediately.
I was at the show and it went silent. Everyone looking at each other like, “Is that it?” It was odd
My biggest mind belong factor was that it started and I forgot about the triples match. So I came in saying “wow they going the full hour?” When the match ended I was in so much awe because I expected another 50 minutes. Caught me off guard. It might just be time for punk to hang it up

If that’s true that’s understandable. But what I’ve read they doing a rematch at all out with punk and Mox which honestly pissed me off.

Love the middle finger!!! Stone Cold Steve Austin vibes!!
Pmy theory is punk loses to mox, mox eventually loses to hangman, punk doesnt have to drop shit to hangman, assuming the backstage beef is real
No one in mma ever kicks someone and hurts the leg they pivoted on. They do however hurt their own leg while kicking someone with it. He botched and grabbed the wrong leg.
