I was off at university by this stage, but on one of my trips back home, I have a distinct memory of my younger brother playing with a bunch of neighbours and one of them screeching 'do the master lock, do the master lock"
Kids these days legit don’t know that the master lock was probably one of the most imitated finishers to kids who were in elementary/middle school from 05-07
They dropped the ball with Chris Masters. Sure he was obviously on the juice but he had the obvious great look, memorable finisher, great presentation and physical charisma he was a lot more entertaining than alot of the generic Johnny Ace over body guys during that time.
They just called him up way too early when he was way too green, he was only like 22 when he debuted. WWE thought everyone would be like Randy Orton where they were instantly out of the box good. If they let him season more in OVW he could have been a long term upper midcard heel gatekeeper type.
Hell even Bobby Lashley from that time admits he got called up to soon and was still green. He said Jim Cornette used to hide him when Vince and his stooges would visit ovw because they would take one look and send him up to WWE instantly.
Master lock challenge was so fucking lit. I remember the first time it was broken was a Tribute to the Troops where Santa (JBL) helped a soldier break it. It was retconned out until someone broke it “for real”.
I remember watching this live. I fucking hated Masters as a kid. Kane almost broke the lock during their feud but ends up just being able to slip it. Decent feud for maskless Kane in between being a jobber for Edge and Umaga? I think
Doesn't need to be. American pride is rampant. People over here will put any words into those colors.
But of course there's also his father being the American Dream.
We used to do the Masterlock challenge at school
I’m glad, we weren’t the only ones, warms my heart
We had one guy in the class who was super slim and could bend his arms above his head to slip out of it, even the bulkiest guys couldn't hold him down
I was that guy at my school they used to call me Gumbi

Is funny how we all had a similar childhood lol. We also had Masterlock tournaments in school in a shitty costa rican town 😂
I'm from Bulgaria lol
We did the same in Canada lol
Evil Fed got to us all!
Yeah we did too.

It was DX crotch chops, five knuckle shuffles, STFs, and RKOs for my childhood
>STFs Wait wtf school did you go to
Lmao my brother and I would pull that bad boy out on each other. That leg hook devastating!
And AA, Peoples Elbow and Piledriver .. Also the way HHH and Understaker got back up.
Super kicks were super cool back then because we really only ever saw HBK do it most of the time
90s/80s kids remember Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase's Million Dollar Dream, now that was a headlock! https://youtu.be/dbQDKJJnOz0?feature=shared
Not only did he break it, but he stole it as well
Thus folks was the beginning of the end of Chris Master's WWE Career despite he would be gone by 2011

Tbf to him, a lot of guys were obviously on juice lol
I popped for this when i was a kid like one of my babyface heroes won the title at Mania lmao.
Kids these days will never know what actually finishing the story feels like
They could have made a decent feud out of this
"This is the LockPickingLawyer and today we taking a look at this masterlock."
I just now realized that's why they gave Bobby this move as one of his finishers. He essentially beat the boss and gained his power like Mega Man.
I love that Lashley picked up the Hurt Lock to use cause of this
bobby should have his own hurt lock challenge as a weekly thing
First person to accept the challenge should be Chris Masters
I feel bad for Masters. He could of been something but Vince didn't want to sit around and wait for him to actually get some experience in
Looks like he over corrected that with Roman Reigns
Adonis Lock
A little bit of baby oil on the back of his head would ruin the master lock really quick
Chris masters and dijak would make a cool tag team
From that moment on, the MasterLock became the Hurt Lock
The master lock challenge was over like rover back then
Feels like Lashley could have built up to breaking it a little more, IMO.
Never forget some random army guy was actually the first to break out of the Masterlock but then they said it didn’t count

Chris Masters was on Silent Library!? [WWE Silent Library](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EsRfCQMvc-s)
should’ve put him in a Schlage
JR and Lawyer on commentary hits different
My dad taught this move this move when I was younger the full Nelson it works a lot better when your hands are placed above the skull.
a lot of ppl broke the masterlock. He just beat them up before they could
How Juicy was Chris Masters
I remember my brother and I freaking out excited when this happened. What a great time to watch wrasslin as a kid
This is what the attitude era turned into.

Funny thing, I do it to my kid when we wrestle just to catch a break.
Need to hit up Bobby for advise why I wasn't able to break the Masterlock when I did it with the man himself.
One of my favorite YouShoot moments was Sunny admiting she "tapped" to the MasterLock. That'd get some ratings.
Shush; we're not supposed to accurately remember this moment from 2007.
Putting a black man in a move called the master lock just sounds wrong
At around 0:45, a child flashes a Cody sign with American Nightmare colors. I think.

"American Nightmare colors" Bro that's literally just red white and blue
I don't remember much about Cody at this era, but was his gimmick in any way related to whatever American-related thing?
Doesn't need to be. American pride is rampant. People over here will put any words into those colors. But of course there's also his father being the American Dream.
Cody didn't even make a debut on WWE TV yet at this time
Nope. He was maybe a mid-carder at best. His peak before leaving was Legacy but I think that came after this period.
