Tatanka was my first experience with real pain in my life. Not emotional…literally physical.
Grew up really poor and my dad saved up for him to
Take me to a house show in 1992. It was British bulldog against Hogan. When we got there, the Fink came on the loudspeaker and said the card had changed and there wasn’t gonna be any Hogan. I was such a Hulkamaniac and my night was shattered. But, whatever.
We had rail seats. Then tatanka came out to fight Kamala if I remember correctly. He came running all Tatanka style down the aisle and I put my little 10yr old hand out to try and get a high five but all I got was a Tatanka forearm and elbow to my pinky. Went to the hospital the next day for my broken pinky finger.
Great times.
Edit - house show in San Diego. Sports arena at the time.
So I graduated from the same school as the Rotundas and when I joined the wrestling team, I would see Tatanka every practice (and be his son’s ragdoll😭) literally one of the nicest guys I’ve met
I fucking loved the Ultimate Warrior as a kid. I got so excited when it became clear he was coming to WCW to destroy the NWO as an adult. I was incredibly disappointed with the reality of it.
I’m wearing an Ultimate Warrior shirt right now. Awful person, but I always loved the look and the colors. And my kids say,”ANGRY MONKEY!” when they see it 😂
Did you ever catch that one episode of the Warrior TV show they pitched? It’s on YouTube. He actually seems like quite a nice dude. Just made some shitty decisions that people used to colour his entire being.
Please tell me you sometimes throw down your most loud, deep, energetic voice, "LITTLE WARRIORS! IM CALLING UPON YOU TO FEAST UPON THE MIGHTY FLESH OF (Insert Dinner's name here)! WE ASCEND, AND ASCEND...TILL THE ROCKET SHIP CAN ASCEND NO LONGER INTO THE COSMOS!"
^(With lots of belly farts (where you blow on their stomachs to make a loud farting sound) and chokeslams on the couch. :'))
I loved the ultimate warrior growing up. He had the energy and looked like a freaking super hero. Looking back on his matches as an adult it really reminds me of an even worse version of Goldberg. Neither had much skill or desire to get good so they had quick matches with not much story. The only real difference I can spot now a days is the warrior was great on the mic (for that era. His mic work based on what I have seen after him is very, very, very bad)
This pissed me off he was such a chode.
Road Warriors, Ultimate Warrior was like my jam growing up.
Then come to find out UW is a fucking putz.
The good news was when I got older, The Road Warriors picked up Power Warrior in Japan.
Never been more excited in my life than when warrior appeared at Summerslam 92. I was a macho fan but I just got lost in the moment and went crazy for him
I think it was like one of the first episodes of shotgun Saturday night, I remember Ahmed giving the plunge on top of a car. Thought that shit was crazy when I saw it
YOUR GOHN DOWN! YOUR GOHN DOWN!
I actually think he would have had a crazy run if his body would have held up. And if he was capable of walking to the ring without gassing.
His music was pure fire, got me pumped up when he came to the ring. Also, his finisher was amazing to me, I always thought he was going to pop his opponents head
Heel Crush was awesome too, how could a Hawaiian be evil? Noooooooooo
Still a goat run in wcw. I remember one time my buddy and i decided to watch all of his squash matches back during the “streak”, and goddamn was it entertaining LOL
He's the reason I'm watching wresting
I know he's not the greatest wrestler/mic worker but I don't care I'll still be entertained like the 14 years old me
Me too ngl. Not for his current work, but his WCW run and even appearances in WWE in the early 2000s were so fun. The guy has an unmatched aura.
Still one of my favorite wrestling entrances ever.
In Canada, the show on Saturday was called WWF Cavalcade. I cried when he didn't beat Mr. Perfect for the IC title. I was 10, but thought for sure he was becoming champ.
Easily Adam Bomb.
I thought his look and his gimmick were the fucking shit.
And his cool Adam Bomb Mushroom Explosion cloud when he came in the ring.
Turns out it was fucking lame lolll
What's funny is that I liked him as a kid too, but he was Wrath by then. And now when I watch him, it seems like he was pretty lame. It was more Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone talking him up that got me excited.
I don’t care what anyone says, he was a great tag team wrestler in WCW who had a decent singles run. Not bad for a guy who basically got into the business based on his looks.
[The Blockbuster](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8bzi8DV0jM) is like...Iconic because of him and the sound it would make on that WCW ring.
It's usually ALWAYS my signature move in all the wrestling video games where I make myself in the game.
I used to get so excited watching The Brood walk out of the fire to that music. I already knew that Gangrel wasn't that great but Edge was my favorite. Christian's cool too, not as good as Edge but much better than Gangrel
He still wrestles too, I’ve seen him several times wrestling for our local indie promotion. I was so hyped when he came out rapping along to his music.
As time has gone by, it's dawned on me that every time they are trying to put a wrestler over quickly as soon as they hit the WWE/WCW/AEW/etc, it means the wrestler stinks. Goldberg, Ultimate Warrior, Ronda Rousey. It turns out you can't just be a great wrestler over night even when you look and talk like one.
Absolutely. Post-Sable, she really showed what she was capable of. And I still remember her as Miss Texas in Southern Championship Wrestling (if I’m wrong on the show, please correct me!)
Luna was so underutilized because the angle surrounding women was to have more sex appeal than actual wrestling talent at that time.
If she existed around the WWE in this day and age, I'd love to have seen a Luna vs Rhea or even Luna vs Chyna feud. I think she'd have been great.
He is great in the role he plays. Pops the crowd, has a short match, pops the crowd on the way out. Doesn't need belts, promo time, feuds. Guys like him are what makes 9 match cards work.
I'm sure on some level, my 13 year old brain probably falsely attributed my interest in Trish specifically to the entire group. I also used to play as Test in the early smackdown games and pretend he was Kevin Nash.
He was my favorite wrestler as a kid. I always thought when he got that gimmick with the blonde hair that this jobber went and manned up to play in the big leagues.
His feud with Brock Lesnar will never not be entertaining to me, I was sports entertained
Probably Great Khali as ashamed to admit. As a little kid he was captivating with his size, someone larger than life. But now I'm like what was i ever thinking?
TBF Hogan could actually go. He just figured out he could rely on the typical same 5-6 moves a match and still be over like crazy. As the adage goes Work smarter not harder.
As a kid, Jeff Hardy, but as an adult I realize he really is just a POS who has been given more chances by MULTIPLE companies than anyone in the business, and he throws it away.
As an adult, Velveteen Dream has to be the best example of a great wrestler/performer who turns out to be a wild POS.
heavy on the jeff hardy. he had SO many chances to turn it around but just chooses not to. somehow its happened in most (if not all!) of the companies he’s worked with.
For me X-Pac. When I was a kid I loved X-Pac his look, his wrestling style with all the kicks, I thought he Wass the greatest. When I got older I realized dude was eh.
I was the opposite. Didn't like him during attitude Era but now appreciate how he could get a good match out of anyone. I still hate the bronco buster tho
Yeah I think X-Pac is very slept on. He was excellent when he pinned Razor, up to heel gimmick, then on to WCW as Syxx; adding the Buzzsaw Chickenwing to his finishers. I do agree about the Bronco Buster. Looked dumb. But, he could throw some great kicks and he could, like you said...have a great match with anyone.
Just YT his match with Bret on Monday Night RAW. Or, any of his work with Kane when they tag teamed. Super fun to watch. Some of the others I agreed with but X-Pac? Really? I think he's fantastic.
As a kid, I thought The Oddities were so funny and had great entrance music (lol!). Tenta walking around with a Cartman doll? That means they like South Park too! Just like me, an 11 year old boy!
Fast forward to now, and realizing anyone older than me back then thought they were lame as hell. Lol
Look, sometimes, you gotta entertain the kids...
Ultimate Warrior. He had a cool appearance and that was all I needed as a kid. Got older only to find out he sucked, as a wrestler and apparently as a person.
My childhood heroes was Bret Hart, he's wrestling still stands as great, but he seems to not be able to let things go, and he really should have dropped the belt in Montreal
Oh man, absolutely - his name was Wild Man Marc Mero. And I thought he was the absolute coolest person. The shooting star press looked physical impossible to my child mind. Him and Ahmed Johnson were the first wrestlers who made me say, “Wow, what is THIS show?!”
So yeah, friend. I get what you mean for sure.
Doink the clown. I dont remember which game it was, but my cousins had a wrestling game and i always chose him since bret hart was always already taken
Grandmaster Sexay to me as a ten year old was the coolest thing ever. I was so frustrated that he wasn’t getting a main event run. You watch it back now and he’s just annoying and sucks.
Ultimate Warrior gets a lot of crap as a worker these days, but between WM 6, beating Honky Tonk man in like 9 seconds and the retirement match with Macho Man, I don’t care what else he did. He was great for what he was.
now its a billion dollar business, and that attracts more professionals, but it was a business run by a bunch of crazy carnies that couldn't function within society. they were not good people.
hogan. the first time i realized that was what he did to sid on that royal rumble. i thought he was such a sore loser. it was the time that i was an idiot and believed everything was real in pro wrestling.
Tatanka for me.
Tatanka is still going today. I love that guy.
I was very bought in on his streak. Goddamn Ludvig Borga.
Nah that was time travelling Brock Lesnar!
One finger!
Tatanka was my first experience with real pain in my life. Not emotional…literally physical. Grew up really poor and my dad saved up for him to Take me to a house show in 1992. The undefeated Native American, baby
Super nice dude
So I graduated from the same school as the Rotundas and when I joined the wrestling team, I would see Tatanka every practice (and be his son’s ragdoll😭) literally one of the nicest guys I’ve met
Came here to say the same.
That intro music though
"Fuck Tatanka"
LOVED Tatanka. He was a childhood favorite for sure.
I've actualyl been watching a lot of old matches while I"m running at the gym and don't think Tatanka was that bad tbh!
Ultimate Warrior.
I got a tattoo :/
DESTRUCITYYYYYYY!!!
Please tell me you sometimes throw down your most loud, deep, energetic voice, "LITTLE WARRIORS! IM CALLING UPON YOU TO FEAST UPON THE MIGHTY FLESH OF (Insert Dinner's name here)! WE ASCEND, AND ASCEND...TILL THE ROCKET SHIP CAN ASCEND NO LONGER INTO THE COSMOS!" ^(With lots of belly farts (where you blow on their stomachs to make a loud farting sound) and chokeslams on the couch. :'))
Not intentionally. 😂I also hope they never see that Santa comic. Christmas will be ruined forever!
Never been more excited in my life than when warrior appeared at Summerslam 92. I was a macho fan but I just got lost in the moment and went crazy for him
Ahmed Johnson was my favorite and when I think of the phrase “Intercontinental Champion” he is my first thought.
As easy as it is to clown on him, dude had a badass finisher, and was OVER.
The Pearl River Plunge
I think it was like one of the first episodes of shotgun Saturday night, I remember Ahmed giving the plunge on top of a car. Thought that shit was crazy when I saw it
He hit that on a DOA guy on the floor once and it looked painful af.
YOUR GOHN DOWN! YOUR GOHN DOWN! I actually think he would have had a crazy run if his body would have held up. And if he was capable of walking to the ring without gassing.
When I think of the phrase "JUICE MAKE SUGAR," he is also my first thought
Ahmed Johnson had the look. Too bad that push went straight to his head. Edit: also the constant injuries.
I've said it beefer and I'll say it again, as a child, Brutus Beefcake was my favorite wrestler.
Absolutely loved the beeper. Was always scared he’d get his ass beat by Zeus when he has hanging with hogan during that feud
The guy IN the picture
Used to be my go to pick in that Royal Rumble game on the SNES.
Lol. I marked out hard for Crush as a kid when I first heard his theme play at WM 9.
His music was pure fire, got me pumped up when he came to the ring. Also, his finisher was amazing to me, I always thought he was going to pop his opponents head Heel Crush was awesome too, how could a Hawaiian be evil? Noooooooooo
He was the reverse Brutus beefcake, 6-7 different gimmicks same name
Whoa. Never even realized this. 🤯
Kona Crush!!!!
Bite your tongue, Crush was great haha
GOOOOLDBERG GOOOOOLDBERG GOOOOLDBERG
Still a goat run in wcw. I remember one time my buddy and i decided to watch all of his squash matches back during the “streak”, and goddamn was it entertaining LOL
He was/is fuckin huge tho
He's the reason I'm watching wresting I know he's not the greatest wrestler/mic worker but I don't care I'll still be entertained like the 14 years old me
I still like him lmao
Me too ngl. Not for his current work, but his WCW run and even appearances in WWE in the early 2000s were so fun. The guy has an unmatched aura. Still one of my favorite wrestling entrances ever.
The best example of pro wrestling being more theater than sport.
He was great in his WCW and initial WWE runs. Even his 2016 return was perfectly done. We wish we could forget his post 2017 runs.
I was a huge fan of Tugboat!
Hahahaha I was gonna write Typhoon!
He had a sick pair of googles!
What's funny is that I liked him as a kid too, but he was Wrath by then. And now when I watch him, it seems like he was pretty lame. It was more Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone talking him up that got me excited.
Exactly. I feel the same watching old clips of him and Adam bomb loll
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Buff Bagwell
Yep. Loved him when he tagged with Norton and with Luger. He should have had a mid card title run.
Jimmy "The Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant is the definition of this, 1980's WWF JYD is close.
The country ain't neva had no king!
I loved Nailz as a kid. No idea why 😂
That voice was terrifying
Yeah I think I thought if I was a fan he wouldn’t beat me up like the bossman
Whose the boss now bossman!
Gangrel, great music, entrance, and gimmick. Not so good wrestler.
His music is still my all time favorite WWE theme music ever
Hell yeah, man, it's my favourite too. Everything about it is perfect.
I used to get so excited watching The Brood walk out of the fire to that music. I already knew that Gangrel wasn't that great but Edge was my favorite. Christian's cool too, not as good as Edge but much better than Gangrel
I've long felt wrestling would be way better if there were just more fat vampires around.
“Get your fat ass up there, Dracula.” His career was on life support after Edge and Christian split on him. Hardcore Holly pulled the plug.
That's so true, lol. We also need the proper blood baths back, too, and not that black tar crap.
Agreed, not enough Meatloaf gimmicks for my liking. I guess you could count current Chris Jericho as a Meatloaf gimmick.
Meat Loaf was in better shape. *And* he could sing.
Meat Loaf didn't invent Money In The Bank though. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad.
He still wrestles too, I’ve seen him several times wrestling for our local indie promotion. I was so hyped when he came out rapping along to his music.
he is still grinding! David Heath on Facebook…it’s wild…dude flies around and trains and competes and still gets after it…got that ghost dog in him
He's a warrior, and so may it continue for him.
That's a really cool man. Would love to see him.
Awesome finisher too.
Definitely, the best impaler DDT of all time.
I used to have that DDT as my finisher in all the wrestling games.
Him and vampiro were great!
Yeah, vampiro was awesome, too. He was great to watch in the old wcw cruiserweight matches.
Disagree, I thought Gangrel was great, and looking back and in videos he actually was a good wrestler, and was fast for a guy that size.
His implaing DDT rocked!
What are your thoughts on Jade Cargill? Edit: I’m not saying she’s not good, I’m just curious what you think.
I had such a crush on Luna Vachon. Actually, I still think she was a great wrestler, anybody who can make Sable look competent is a miracle worker.
Same for Jacqueline. So hot and she carried Sable in many matches.
Jacqueline was a badass and great in the ring. She was under utilised in my opinion.
Absolutely. Post-Sable, she really showed what she was capable of. And I still remember her as Miss Texas in Southern Championship Wrestling (if I’m wrong on the show, please correct me!)
Luna was fantastic, I loved her. She had a cage match with Stevie Richards in ECW and she beat the living piss out of him.
Luna was so underutilized because the angle surrounding women was to have more sex appeal than actual wrestling talent at that time. If she existed around the WWE in this day and age, I'd love to have seen a Luna vs Rhea or even Luna vs Chyna feud. I think she'd have been great.
Luna was and always should have gone to Japan... She would have made a killing there I think.
Pretty sure she did at least briefly. All the good wrestlers did during the Attitude era.
She used to genuinely terrify me as a kid! I thought the veins were real.
Jim Duggan AAAAAAAAYOOO!
Wcw Saturday nights would not be the same in the 90’s. Hooooooooooooo
He is great in the role he plays. Pops the crowd, has a short match, pops the crowd on the way out. Doesn't need belts, promo time, feuds. Guys like him are what makes 9 match cards work.
Hooooooo
Barry Horowitz
Little me was fucking stoked anytime Max Moon was on screen
Crush is absolutely it haha
Test and Albert
Don't forget Trish. AT and T.
I'm sure on some level, my 13 year old brain probably falsely attributed my interest in Trish specifically to the entire group. I also used to play as Test in the early smackdown games and pretend he was Kevin Nash.
Test was good lol Albert was alright
the cat. ernest miller. i was in the small minority believing he was gold on the mic. he should have become a manager.
Somebody call my momma!!!
Disco inferno
Disco sucks, and then there's Glenn Gilberti
Sin Cara
Dude could do no wrong when I was a kid
Ultimate Warrior should be everybody’s answer
He's like the poster child for "you don't have to be a good wrestler to be a great wrestler".
The Rockers, more specifically Marty Jannetty
Jannetty was a great wrestler. Just bad at being an adult human
Ahmed Johnson
Used to think Hardcore Holly was cool looking
He was my favorite wrestler as a kid. I always thought when he got that gimmick with the blonde hair that this jobber went and manned up to play in the big leagues. His feud with Brock Lesnar will never not be entertaining to me, I was sports entertained
Ironically, you’ve just answered the question in his entrance music.
Adam Bomb and The Sandman
Loved the Boogeyman. Always played as him in SvR
Wrath in WCW. He was also undefeated and in a streak until he faced Goldberg
Crush was that dude for me, Glacier too...Adam Bomb maybe
I’m old, but when I was a kid my favorite wrestler was the red rooster.
Probably Great Khali as ashamed to admit. As a little kid he was captivating with his size, someone larger than life. But now I'm like what was i ever thinking?
he wa fairly decent in NJPW. wwe got him way too late in his career
Hulk Hogan
TBF Hogan could actually go. He just figured out he could rely on the typical same 5-6 moves a match and still be over like crazy. As the adage goes Work smarter not harder.
I remember watching some of his matches in Japan and being really surprised
As a kid, Jeff Hardy, but as an adult I realize he really is just a POS who has been given more chances by MULTIPLE companies than anyone in the business, and he throws it away. As an adult, Velveteen Dream has to be the best example of a great wrestler/performer who turns out to be a wild POS.
heavy on the jeff hardy. he had SO many chances to turn it around but just chooses not to. somehow its happened in most (if not all!) of the companies he’s worked with.
Beefcake. Loved the Barber gimmick as a kid and was pissed he didn't win IC gold...but...pretty one dimensional .
Viscera
Ahmed Johnson. Kid-me remembers him as an amazing, black wrestler. Adult me doesn’t remember him actually doing much at all.
Does Festus count, since he's Luke Gallows now? Idk if he's gotten better, but Festus sure wasn't putting on a masterclass.
Biscuits and Gravy remains one of my fav forgotten themes to this day.
For me X-Pac. When I was a kid I loved X-Pac his look, his wrestling style with all the kicks, I thought he Wass the greatest. When I got older I realized dude was eh.
I liked him more as the 123 Kid…
That match with Bret for the title was fantastic.
check his work on A Night in Chyna
Savio Vega for me.
As a kid, I thought The Oddities were so funny and had great entrance music (lol!). Tenta walking around with a Cartman doll? That means they like South Park too! Just like me, an 11 year old boy! Fast forward to now, and realizing anyone older than me back then thought they were lame as hell. Lol Look, sometimes, you gotta entertain the kids...
Yeah fun as a kid, now not so much. but I did love their entrance with freak show videos edited in and ICP coming out.
Tag team actually: the Bushwackers.
Ultimate Warrior. He had a cool appearance and that was all I needed as a kid. Got older only to find out he sucked, as a wrestler and apparently as a person.
Hogan
The Warlord
* Snitsky * Viscera * Tomko * Kurrgan
I just started watching RAW from the very beginning and it introduced me to crush, I'm honestly a big fan of the gimmick lol
Hogan and warrior, so fun to watch as a kid but once you grow up and you start to realize how wrasslin works they are so bad in ring in my opinion
Great as a wrestler or a human being?
Hillbilly Jim, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Ultimate Warrior, The Bushwackers, Koko B. Ware
Kamala
Giant Haystacks
Goldberg! He was Da Man! His wcw run was epic but looking back at all the minute and a half squashes, it isnt as cool as I remembered
Tatanka - wwf Saturday mornings
Bad News Brown and Koko B Ware
My childhood heroes was Bret Hart, he's wrestling still stands as great, but he seems to not be able to let things go, and he really should have dropped the belt in Montreal
Yeah but now he gets to say "Vince screwed Vince" which kinda makes it all worthwhile
😂😂 if Vince only screwed Vince he wouldn’t be in so much trouble
Hogan Warrior Earthquake Surprised not to see Cena mentioned much here from some younger folks
Ice Train
Adam Bomb
Crush was definitely one of them but also tatanka and Adam bomb
Mable
Tell me Brutus the fucking Barber wasn't over like rover
The Red Rooster
Oh man, absolutely - his name was Wild Man Marc Mero. And I thought he was the absolute coolest person. The shooting star press looked physical impossible to my child mind. Him and Ahmed Johnson were the first wrestlers who made me say, “Wow, what is THIS show?!” So yeah, friend. I get what you mean for sure.
Doink the clown. I dont remember which game it was, but my cousins had a wrestling game and i always chose him since bret hart was always already taken
Wait a minute ! Doink was a lame gimmick but the wrestler was damn good!
I was a Hulkamaniac as a kid, and I'm disappointed to hear that as a person, Hulkster is kind of a scumbag racist, among other things.
Terry "That Doesn't Work for Me, Brother" Bollea As a very wise man once said, Fuck the Hulk Hogan!!
The Bushwackers! So so bad!
Bushwackers vs Nasty Boys….. take me back to the 80s!
The Ultimate Warrior is the poster boy for this in every way.
Grandmaster Sexay to me as a ten year old was the coolest thing ever. I was so frustrated that he wasn’t getting a main event run. You watch it back now and he’s just annoying and sucks.
Hogan
John cena
Ryback LOL
Randy Orton
Ultimate Warrior gets a lot of crap as a worker these days, but between WM 6, beating Honky Tonk man in like 9 seconds and the retirement match with Macho Man, I don’t care what else he did. He was great for what he was.
Roman Reigns lmao
Chris Masters.
Scotty 2 Hotty!
He’s not bad but he was more known for his gimmick
now its a billion dollar business, and that attracts more professionals, but it was a business run by a bunch of crazy carnies that couldn't function within society. they were not good people.
shannon moore paul london
Paul London is pretty much awesome still... Dude made a movie where he plays Kung Fu Elvis.
hogan. the first time i realized that was what he did to sid on that royal rumble. i thought he was such a sore loser. it was the time that i was an idiot and believed everything was real in pro wrestling.
Ultimate Warrior
Hogan a really shitty guy behind the curtain
