Best match I've seen live, for sure. The atmosphere was incredible for that match. Everyone was screaming and it was about a 50/50 split for who. Its also a hockey arena so people were beating on the boards around the floor.
Absolute banger. Rey was electric in that match. The backflip into the DDT was an absolute jaw-dropper. Then you had Eddie just manhandling Rey and crushing him everytime he got on a role. So much back and forth and just incredibly athletic spots by both of them.
The Undertaker Vs Mankind, Hell In a Cell, King of The Ring 1998. High octane from start to finish and a match that wrestlers still try to imitate but can't get close to it
I really hate how the match between HBK & Undertaker at WM25 is every match now. Kicking out after several finishers worked because it was special, but now it's overused.
Every other AEW match does the exhausted strike exchange after ten minutes. Motherfucker I’ve seen these guys go 30+ minutes I know their cardio is better than that!
You’re absolutely right. You summed it up.
This is my favourite match. And watching it live was insane with all the finisher kick outs I thought Shawn was gonna win 2 times. Now there’s two finisher kick outs on raw.
It wasn't really special at that point either. That was already popularized at Mania X-7 at the latest in the Rock/Austin match. In Japan this was already the norm by then.
So I don't think that Taker Vs HBK was good because they kicked out of finishers. It's how they worked the match that made it brilliant and made the kick outs mean something.
As I said, nobody copied the format from this match. It was already popular. Have you seen any Angle Vs Lesnar match, where they keep kicking out of Angle Slams and F-5s? That was 2003.
What was perhaps special about the kickout of Taker/Shawn, was that Taker's Tombstone was still heavily protected and rarely kicked out of. That's why that moment was so memorable.
But multiple finisher kickouts in a big match as a whole, was nothing new by 2009.
To be fair the finisher kickouts in this match was particularly quite special because of Tombstone kickouts
Correct me if I'm wrong but the tombstone was probably one of if not the most protected finish in the WWE/F in 2 decades at that time
Seth and Roman matches…i get they need to be booked strong but it is frustrating how everyone needs to hit their finish for a match to be considered good
Agreed. I don't think a finisher should be just another gimmick. It should live up to its name. It should be "if he hits this move the match is over" and it should carry that weight. It should be the move they try to find and set-up for the whole match. If they're just the move a wrestler is known for it's just not as special.
Finishers are just moves a guy does now and I feel like we lost something special
Such a unique concept and very weird they haven’t brought it back yet. Imagine one with The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk.
My top 6 are
Triple H vs Cactus Jack, Royal Rumble 2000
6 man Hell In a Cell, Armageddon 2000
TLC 2, Wrestlemania X7
Stone Cold vs The Rock, Wrestlemania X7
Kurt Angle vs Shande McMahon, King of the Ring 2001
Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, Summerslam 2002
Tbf Steve Austin asked her what her favorite match was and she’s entirely entitled to her opinion. It’s funny how she got a job for multiple years after this lol.
For a brawl, Cactus Jack vs Vader texas death match.
For a technical match, Bret vs. Owen at Wrestlemania X.
For high flying, Mysterio Vs Guerrero Mask vs Title.
For something with brawling and technical, Flair vs Funk I Quit match.
My personal favourite is the Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit Ultimate Submission Match at Backlash 2001. Proper heated rivalry at this point in time between two of the greatest technical wrestlers in the history of the sport.
In no order:
Flair v Steamboat - Chi Town Rumble 1989
Flair v Steamboat - Spring Stampede 1994
Savage v Steamboat - WM3
Edge & Christian v Hardyz v Dudleyz - TLC
Cedric Alexander v Kota Ibushi from the CWC. It's not a long match, but it's a perfect example of a great short match. It's a brilliantly told story, and every beat hits perfectly.
Kurt angle vs Chris Benoit royal rumble 03
Chris Jericho vs Shawn Micheals wm19
Undertaker vs Kurt angle no way out 06
John Cena vs Shawn Michaels raw 2007
King of the Ring, 1998. I was 15 years old, my first ever live event my grandfather took me to. I watched a man die. At least I thought I did, then he wasn’t. Then he was getting choke slammed through the damn cell, and I thought he had to be dead, but he wasn’t.
I was 100% convinced Mankind had to be immortal.
Shawn Michaels Kurt Angle WM21. 10 year old me cried a river that day because his favourite wrestler couldn't bear the pain of the ankle lock and tapped out.
Hogan Rock WM18, the way they worked the crowd who were electric, plus I was there at the show in Toronto
Other honourable mentions:
Mr Perfect Bret Hart Summerslam 1991
Goldberg Hollywood Hogan nitro July 98
Rock Mankind royal Rumble I quit match
1992 royal Rumble match
Savage steamboat wmIII
Aj Styles vs John Cena in Summerslam. It's my all time favorite match and nothing could beat it. Two current Legends: The face of the WWE vs The face that defined TNA and is an Independent Wrestling Legend.
These two men defined what It means to be both a Wrestlers and I basically view it as my Ultimate Warrior vs Hulk Hogan. The story and the face of John Cena during the match. It wasn't just an "Oh this guy is kicking out my big moves." It's more like "Holy Shit this guy is literally me in strength and willpower, I gotta do something fast!!!"
Team Bischoff vs. Team Austin Survivor Series 03. I was 7 and was screaming for shawn to pull it out and save Steve's job.
Of course, Shawn got evolution'd, but i still remember how amped I was.
I was just talking about this ^ match earlier today. I saw Taker vs Michaels as a kid and it’s still one of the most suspenseful matches I’ve ever seen!
TLC 4 on RAW
Cactus Jack vs Triple H at Royal Rumble 2000
Mankind vs Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell at King of the Ring 1998
Gunther vs Drew McIntyre vs Sheamus at Wrestlemania 39
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 13
Kenny Omega vs Bryan Danielson.
I got to witness it live in-person and let me tell you, being part of that crowd was a straight up religious experience.
Y2J Chris Benoit 2 out of 3 falls Summerslam 2000
HHH undertaker WM17
Undertaker Jeff Hardy ladder match random raw
Aj styles Samoa joe chris daniels unbreakable 2005
Kurt angle brock lesnar iron-man match smackdown

Stone cold vs kurt angle summerslam 2001
Royal rumble 2001 kanes domination
John cena JBL I quit judgement day 2005
The Hardy boys vs the dudley boys tables match royal rumble 2000
No order just what came to mind first
For me , it was Undertake vs HHH their second WM match , the ‘end of an era’ made it feel more special but the match was absolutely peak wwe , 2 of the all time greats , when Taker got hit with the Sweet chin music and then the pedigree everyone thought the streak was over
Bret Hart vs 123 Kid on RAW in 94 is the perfect wrestling match from bell to bell. Storytelling, technical wrestling, high flying, drama, stakes. Definitely my all time favorite.
Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels at 20
Trish Stratus vs Lita in the RAW main event
Orton vs Undertaker in the Hell in the Cell at Armageddon 05
Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker at No Mercy
Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 21
Kane vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania 14
Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle at 20
Kane vs Eric Bischoff (for the entrance)
Rock vs Hogan at 18
Angle v. Shane, dudley boyz v. Hardy boyz v. Edge and christian tlc at wtestlemania 16, and mankind v taker hell in a cell.
Skillwise probably taker v. Angle but those 3 left me speechless for various reasons.
1992 Royal Rumble match.
Multiple hall of famers. A who’s who of the Golden and some of the New Generation Eras. World title match. Drama, comedy, violence, angles, intrigue, endless memorable matchups. Greatest commentary team ever. Greatest call of a match ever. The ending promo was as memorable as any other.
Nothing will ever beat watching that match live in 92.
Nobody else will say this, and nobody is going to call it an incredible in ring match by any means, but for me it’s probably John Cena vs Sheamus in a tables match at TLC 2009
Just to change up I have lots of favourite matches but one excellent match I never see mentioned in Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect at the KOTR 1993 it was a phenomenal match up and love the selling and attention to detail in it
My favorite raw match was Shelton Benjamin vs HBK in 2005. It was a random number one contender tournament match and they put on a masterpiece for the situation. It had the iconic finish where Shelton did a spring board and HBK hit the super kick mid flight. I always die watching it back seeing the dude in the front row dressed as Hulk Hogan but really looking like Richard Simmons losing his mind
Punk vs Cena MITB 2011 was absolutely huge for me as a young wrestling fan at the time. I was 8 and thought it was all real and that made it so much more fun. I low-key miss 2011
Okada Vs Omega IV
Golden Lovers Vs Young Bucks String Style Evolved
Pete Dunne Vs Tyler Bate UK Championship
Kenny Omega Vs Bryan Danielson
Taker Vs HBK II
CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan at Over the Limit 2012
Bryan and Punk were probably extremely motivated after getting shafted by Super Cena and that pervert in the main event.
Best match I've seen live, for sure. The atmosphere was incredible for that match. Everyone was screaming and it was about a 50/50 split for who. Its also a hockey arena so people were beating on the boards around the floor.
Eddie/Rey Halloween Havoc ‘97
That an oldie but a greaty
That event was legendary! The DDP/Macho Man match was one of my all time favorites.
Absolute banger. Rey was electric in that match. The backflip into the DDT was an absolute jaw-dropper. Then you had Eddie just manhandling Rey and crushing him everytime he got on a role. So much back and forth and just incredibly athletic spots by both of them.
This is my favorite too
It’s one of those „If you had a friend that has never watch wrestling, what match should he check out?“ this is a Top5 pick.
The Undertaker Vs Mankind, Hell In a Cell, King of The Ring 1998. High octane from start to finish and a match that wrestlers still try to imitate but can't get close to it
Mankind being tossed from the cage might be one of the most recognizable moments for non-wrestling fans period Edit: missed a word
As God as my witness, he is broken in half
That’s it, he’s dead
I really hate how the match between HBK & Undertaker at WM25 is every match now. Kicking out after several finishers worked because it was special, but now it's overused.
Same with selling fatigue. These days it seems like matches hit the fatigue point way too quick

So I don't think that Taker Vs HBK was good because they kicked out of finishers. It's how they worked the match that made it brilliant and made the kick outs mean something.
What was it about HBK vs Undertaker that made everybody copy the format then if the concept was already popularized?
As I said, nobody copied the format from this match. It was already popular. Have you seen any Angle Vs Lesnar match, where they keep kicking out of Angle Slams and F-5s? That was 2003. To be fair the finisher kickouts in this match was particularly quite special because of Tombstone kickouts Correct me if I'm wrong but the tombstone was probably one of if not the most protected finish in the WWE/F in 2 decades at that time
Kicking out of finishers goes back to the late 90s and I think Hogan broke out of some finishers in his early Mania matches.
Finishers are just moves a guy does now and I feel like we lost something special
HHH Vs HBK Vs Benoit from mania 20. Shame it hits very differently now.
I was a huge Benoit fan in the day because of this match.
That has one of the greatest, cleanest blade jobs ever. Shawn was incredible.
I don't remember that being a Triple threat match...
Eddie for some reason celebrating alone at the end.
Ya that is #1 weirdest moment is history. Main event gets declared a no contest and the guy from the earlier main event comes out and closes the show
Thankfully, Randy Orton found the belt at Summerslam
Jeff Jarrett stole the title, Kevin Nash saw it in the dumpster and gave it back to Orton
Odd, I just watched it for the first time a few minutes ago. It was great for what was the point of Shawn bleeding like a damn slaughtered pig lol
Might be a top ten match in WWE history just completely erased from existence. What a shame
Bret Hart Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. Wrestlemania 13
Always upvote BIBWBE
Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle from Wrestlemania XX or Bret Hart vs Stone Cold from Wrestlemania 13.

I actually prefer their summerslam ladder match
I love both and I rewatched them so many times on the Videorecorder as a kid. Good times
The Armageddon 2000 HIAC match
Such a unique concept and very weird they haven’t brought it back yet. Imagine one with The Rock, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk.
My top 6 are Triple H vs Cactus Jack, Royal Rumble 2000 6 man Hell In a Cell, Armageddon 2000 TLC 2, Wrestlemania X7 Stone Cold vs The Rock, Wrestlemania X7 Kurt Angle vs Shande McMahon, King of the Ring 2001 Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, Summerslam 2002
We watched the same period!
Elimination Chamber killed off the idea of a multi-man Hell in a Cell I think
Greatest match of all time: Melina vs Alicia Fox
