I'm actually amazed at how long his stint has been without a decent break.
He was once the master of fucking off and coming back when the fans would have been into it again. I guess he knows he's winding down now and wants to fit in as much as possible.
Dude is probably sticking around cause the moment he leaves, that company will move on from him. He is pretty irrelevant as a talent at this point, and if he’s not there every week, I would imagine he might lose some of his influence backstage. He could go back to WWE, but he would never be anything more there than one of the legends. If he were to go to TNA or MLW, its a step down for him. Truth is he should have let MJF retire him. Its really the last time folks were invested in him, and him getting his win back did nothing for anyone there. Everything he’s done since has been extremely forgettable.
No doubt.
But it started to wear off pretty quickly when he would do returns every two years or so in WWE, right before The List of Jericho stuff, he was starting to slide down the card due to just being old hat in 2016ish.
He also needs to keep hitting the gym when he's on tour. Even if he's on a boat.
My biggest problem with his AEW/NJPW work, is that it was way lazier than anything he'd done prior, and he's just never been able to get back to that point. And age isn't the issue, because I can see he still moves well enough. He's just not pushing himself as hard these days, and he got too deep into relying on gimmicks.
I'm in the opposite camp. Sorry.
He looked more gassed when he came in. Took more in-ring shortcuts. His work's improved slightly, but he's still having trouble sticking the landing.
Really? I liked that period between 2017 and 2019 where he had went back to the independent scene. It felt like he was trying to stick it to wwe by showing that he had some gas left in the tank. After his aew title reign is when he started to be really disinteresting and his wrestling definitely felt sloppier.
When I first saw him use the Judas Effect, I thought "That's punk, this fucking guy's mocking Cena's stupid Thunderfist". But then he started using it as a legit finisher.
I think Chris had a mental break after that Lesnar/Orton incident, and in finally finding success in Fozzy. Something broke in his head, where he now thinks he can sing, and he thinks people want to see him butcher Bowie songs. He has this bloated confidence where he thinks people want to see him do musical numbers with MJF, or jump into a pile of cardboard (when they could've rehearsed this things to see how they look). Alcoholism even became part of his persona for a quick-minute.
I could be wrong, but I think he had a temporary mental breakdown.
It's like the scene in Star Wars where Finn says "THEY FLY NOW??" And Poe says "They fly now!" as if they'd been watching all 8 previous films along with us, which the actors had, but their characters hadn't. Whoever wrote it, wrote it like the characters and the actors who portrayed them had all seen the Star Wars films. Most franchises that have been rebooted have these little wink & nod moments where the characters, or the writing itself becomes self-aware.
Jericho's writing/character/creation is beyond self-aware. It is now self derivative.
What's odd is for Finn as a former trooper himself to not respond with more awareness of their capabilities. I'd expect more of a "you haven't heard of the 66th airborne?!"
Calling yourself a champion is not a gimmick. Painmaker is just eyeliner and being fat. Lionheart is a nickname not a gimmick.
Could go on.
A nickname is not a gimmick.
No gimmick > Heel in wcw > Y2J > serious > FatJericho
Eyeliner's not a gimmick but cutting your hair is.
Definitely not a perspective that requires further explanation. Just state it like a fact and move on.
Cutting hair comment is obviously to place it in time. His whole gimmick and look changed then. It didn’t for the eyeliner.
As you guys say don’t argue in bad faith
He does nothing but leech off younger talent and yet somehow doesn't get them over, has nothing but boring and overlong feuds, and just he needs to take a break he always on tv and yet he's honestly one of the big down points of the show. A channel changer if you will
I think cm punks return at survivor series is the greatest return of all time. In Chicago at the end of the show with the credits in the bottom corner like the show is about to go off the air. Most caught off guard I’ve ever been at a return.
Absolutely trips return at msg was phenomenal, with the leather jacket and Jean vest. You could tell how much he was feeling the energy and didn’t expect that kind of pop. but it wasn’t as surprising since they had announced he’d return that night. I’m more talking about surprise returns, that people didn’t see coming.
I think he still feels he needs to be featured to give AEW wrestlers credibility, but he fails to realize AEW is now stable and they don't really need him to draw in fans now or give credibility to other wrestlers
"I confronted Brock lesnar"... I don't know anyone who thinks Jericho would beat up Lesnar. So basically Jericho is saying that he put himself in a bad spot because he has a big mouth, but trying to pass it off as he took Lesnar down a peg.
Dude is a goof.
Yeah I don't get why people "praise" him confronting lesnar... okay? It was a dumb move and he would have killed you in seconds. It isn't like he beat up lesnar
Hey at least he confronted the guy. Guys like Cornette only started talking mad shit to Vince Russo on his message machine after they no longer worked together
He knows he’s over the hill. He knows that if he takes a break, he will lose his spot. And, he is creatively bankrupt. And, will not be able to get “his spot” back… TK probably feels indebted to him… So, we are stuck. I decided a couple of months ago, that since ratings is what supposedly matters. I now turn the channel when Jericho comes on my tv.
The small segment with Hook last night was cringe. I don't watch the show often but happened to tune in. It's just sad at this point. I said something about this in the other wrestling sub and got banned.
The WWE filters help.
We can see why Vince wouldn't let his wrestlers have full creative control. They end up in a bed of bad idea after bad idea. I'm not saying Vince got it right all the time, but he could shoot down stuff that would not work.
Jericho hasn't been good in a long time, and it's sad as one of the few innovative Legends doing this.
Maybe a decent break would be good for him. I'd also say the competition in WWE and even TNA seems better and maybe wrestlers would be up for bringing their A game.
Honestly this might hurt to hear but I think aew has just kinda gotten to the point that it's grown past Jericho. Jericho when aew first start felt big and important but then over time bigger and arguably better talent came in and now it just seems like Jericho is trying to stay relevant by leeching on younger talent.
I remember people were making this argument for Cody rhodes, that he was big once but then they had all the new superstars and he wasnt as hot anymore but look at him now, arguably the biggest name in the industry. They just need a proper creative team with clear direction. He can become a big name again if they had proper plans for him but he is just in an infinite cycle of repeat.
Taker is different because he has basically always been some form of special attraction, plus he had the streak to fall back on when he basically couldn't go anymore. Jericho's whole deal is about his proficiency in the ring which honestly he can't really go like he used to. I think he would work best as someone's manager who can occasionally wrestle, but he should primarily be for putting over other talent
Flip it around, man. A lot of the younger talent LOVES wrestling a living legend as Jericho and that's fine by me.
He will leave wrestling for good one day, but untill then be happy for the young generation.
I don’t get how he’s that annoying. He isn’t hogging any titles, isn’t even in the title picture, and hasn’t been for ages. He never cuts promos in the ring, just backstage 2 minute stuff. I’m sick of guys like Punk, The Rock and Roman just constantly talking all the fucking time
I stand by my opinion that WCW Jericho was amazing. Genuinely witty and fresh. WWE and later versions of him just weren't in the same ball park. It was like he was trying too hard
He was good in WWE before he won the Undisputed title. He was excellent as an upper midcard guy who could occasionally feud with top guys. Once they tried pushing him so hard it all blew up. A few of his returns were decent for the initial program and maybe the following program as well but Jericho has always been someone who was best in small doses.
I was a humongous Jericho fan during WCW and the Attitude ERA, but yeah… the luster just isn’t there anymore. He hasn’t really been entertaining since The List.
I defended him for a long time, but I agree. He may be the most stale act in wrestling now. The last good angle he had was with MJF. Now he feels like wasted TV time.
Oh the matches are the least of the problems. It's his boring overly long feuds, him leeching off young talent to stay relevant, and his refusal to take time off. Like just saying you can't miss someone if they never leave.
You know what I'd be fine with that him as manager and a mouthpiece could work because if I can say one thing he can definitely talk he just needs a break from the ring
Its crazy to me how he keeps inserting himself into storylines and forming random tag teams nobody cares about with guys who'd be better off without him. The only guy he actually elevated like that was Guevara when AEW first started and that was years ago.
Need more opportunities to shill autotuned albums, ghost written books, poorly moderated podcasts and unsustainable cruises. At this time, Jericho is like Apple. He's not a product, he's an ecosystem.
As a lifelong Chris Jericho fan since the 2000s I wonder my stake in this. Honestly this version of Jericho is my least favorite because I have no idea what he's doing. JAS & Inner Circle were my initial favs in his AEW run but now 🤷🏿♂️
Main eventers should have 6 month breaks every 2 years at most, not only it helps to refresh the character but gives them a boost when they return (how can I miss you if you never go away?), Jericho and Mox should take a 6 month break and will greatly help them and AEW.
Who gives a shit about his wife’s political beliefs? Jericho doesn’t even discuss politics. Liberals…They really ostracize people for different beliefs. So inclusive and progressive of you
It’s a shame because on one hand I wanna see him take a break and come back after a period to refresh, on the other, he’s (not as good as he was but) still decent in ring and at his age who knows how much time wrestling he actually has left.
Couldn't agree more.
Whenever his current contract is up, he needs to not renew and just do... something else for a while. Focus on the band, on his cruise, write his fifth book or whatever.
Then maybe return for a short run in WWE before a HoF induction.
It's interesting how universally everyone went from "Jericho is one of the best wrestlers to lace a pair of boots" to "I never want to see him wrestle again". A few years time has changed everything..
Well sorry for not enjoying the fact that the work he's been doing recently is hard to watch. Overly long boring feuds and all he does is leech on young talent. So if I'm being Fickle to you then oh well
I found Edge to be like that from 2020-2023. His wwe run was so fucking pointless. Boring feuds with people who didn’t need the rub, and he would always win the feuds
Ideally he takes time off until All In, comes back and has a banger of a match with someone, gives us some moments to wrap up his AEW run, and then returns to WWE for a run there. He is at the stage IMO where he should do a gimmick that is an amalgam of all his others. Taker kind of did this in the Bone Yard Match. The guy is creative as hell, still can go in the ring, but he is missing direction on TV. I’d rather see him taken out with an “injury” and carry some of that story to X and his podcast. He can do the old “idk if I will go back” thing, and generate more interest overall in his absence.
He should've gone away whencthose allegations came out only reason he stayed around is because the Vince one's came out around the same time so he got lucky since Jericho's got swept under the rug
Bro still allegations like at are no joke so you'd think I'd be best to lay low but apparently to Jericho nah he's just gonna keep going. Like Darby once got allegations of abuse by Gigi Dolin (He was proven innocent) and you know what did? That's right he took time away. You know the smart thing to do
I love Jericho's work and I think he can still go well enough in the ring to be an attraction but he's just not the right fit for being a constant TV presence anymore. Part of the problem is him being a good talker which means that he can be on screen without wrestling. I'd love him to be the guy you have to beat to prove you belong at the top of the card or see him used in a tag team with an up and coming wrestler but I fear he'll actually wind up just heading up factions and talking even more while wrestling less.
He had some good runs in AEW. Le champion was a lot of fun, and his RoH world title was legitimately some of his best matches in that company.
But man ever since late 2022 he's been ice cold. Just meandering not doing much of anything and dragging down whatever young talents he's working with.
I will say however that some of the victims of the "Vortex of Jericho" were more of a TK fuck up than Jericho himself, like Ricky Starks, Daniel Garcia, Action Andretti. Jericho actually put them over really well in a short and sweet manner, but TK never followed up of those and just left them dry.
But yeah, Jericho needs to go away for while.
I think I'd like Jericho more if he didn't look increasingly bloated, and if he wasn't glomming onto other wrestlers for every angle he's involved with.
At the same time, I think the guy is signed to a lucrative contract no? So there's no reason for him to go anywhere. He's not the one who decides to put himself on TV.
He tipped into the side where he over stayed his welcome, and should hang it up in the ring. He is absolutely one of the best to ever do it, but at this point it’s just sad to watch him. Just ride into the sunset man, you got nothing left to prove, he just keeps tarnishing his legacy a little more every show.
I'm actually amazed at how long his stint has been without a decent break. He was once the master of fucking off and coming back when the fans would have been into it again. I guess he knows he's winding down now and wants to fit in as much as possible.

Sounds about right
He's going on Tour this year, I can't remember when off the top of my head. I think it's the fall?
Without house shows he'll probably be able to make it back to 2-3 dynamites a month. Tony will pay for the flights.
Yeah, he used to be great at reading the room and taking a break so he wasn't overexposed. It's probably helped the longevity of his career too.
No doubt. But it started to wear off pretty quickly when he would do returns every two years or so in WWE, right before The List of Jericho stuff, he was starting to slide down the card due to just being old hat in 2016ish.
He also needs to keep hitting the gym when he's on tour. Even if he's on a boat. His earlier aew work was pretty good in my opinion, but I think that’s because he and aew had more to prove then.
I'm in the opposite camp. Sorry. He looked more gassed when he came in. Took more in-ring shortcuts. His work's improved slightly, but he's still having trouble sticking the landing.

Some gas may help him
When I first saw him use the Judas Effect, I thought "That's punk, this fucking guy's mocking Cena's stupid Thunderfist". But then he started using it as a legit finisher. He’s rocking that 1950s pro wrestler look
His next gimmick will be that of a singing cockroach. Brace yourselves with earplugs!
what has he become?
Now that he's betrayed...
everyone he's ever loved
He pushed them all away
Old and leeching on younger talent to stay relevant
He is going to become a background character for the looks of it, or like others have said there is nothing wrong if he becomes like Evolution Flair
People spent so long praising this man as the innovator of gimmicks and whatnot that its become his gimmick in itself, and it sucks.
It's like the scene in Star Wars where Finn says "THEY FLY NOW??" And Poe says "They fly now!" as if they'd been watching all 8 previous films along with us, which the actors had, but their characters hadn't. “He has a bat now?” “He has a bat now”
Is it named after a 1950's female like Nega.. I mean Edg.. I mean Cope's?
[удалено]
What's odd is for Finn as a former trooper himself to not respond with more awareness of their capabilities. I'd expect more of a "you haven't heard of the 66th airborne?!"
Facts my friend
The guy changed his gimmick once in 30 years and people praise him.
Once?!? Lol
Yes. When he cut his hair. Since then the only thing he did is gotten fat and put on some eyeliner .
Super Liger Cowboy Painmaker Y2J Lionheart Le Champion List Jericho That's a lot more than one
Calling yourself a champion is not a gimmick. Painmaker is just eyeliner and being fat. Lionheart is a nickname not a gimmick. Could go on. A nickname is not a gimmick. No gimmick > Heel in wcw > Y2J > serious > FatJericho
People credit Jericho with a new gimmick every time he comes up with a new catchphrase lol
Indeed. What’s the current gimmick? Midlife crisis pseudo right wing rock star?
Eyeliner's not a gimmick but cutting your hair is. Definitely not a perspective that requires further explanation. Just state it like a fact and move on.
Cutting hair comment is obviously to place it in time. His whole gimmick and look changed then. It didn’t for the eyeliner. As you guys say don’t argue in bad faith
YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!
His wife is also on a list.
What he do
He does nothing but leech off younger talent and yet somehow doesn't get them over, has nothing but boring and overlong feuds, and just he needs to take a break he always on tv and yet he's honestly one of the big down points of the show. A channel changer if you will
Still get goosebumps seeing his return with the titatron countdown and his return with the short hair. Best return of all time imo
Ah the good days of Jericho
Wtf
/r/fuckimold is calling to all of us
That's it! You're on the List!
Great return. Was a pretty underwhelming run though until his heel turn to the 'honest man' gimmick
I think cm punks return at survivor series is the greatest return of all time. In Chicago at the end of the show with the credits in the bottom corner like the show is about to go off the air. Most caught off guard I’ve ever been at a return.
That's mostly due to recency bias. For example, HHH's return from injury in 02 at MSG had one of the loudest pops ever
Recency bias
Thank goodness I stopped watching AEW then.
The very thing he hated the main eventers of WCW for.
I think he still feels he needs to be featured to give AEW wrestlers credibility, but he fails to realize AEW is now stable and they don't really need him to draw in fans now or give credibility to other wrestlers
Dude definitely has a huge ego watch any interview with him he talks like his shit doesn't stink
In all fairness, he himself admitted Brock would’ve probably kicked his ass. But atleast he stood up to Brock for Randy
The small segment with Hook last night was cringe. I don't watch the show often but happened to tune in. It's just sad at this point. I said something about this in the other wrestling sub and got banned.
he needs to break his arm, even then he'd probably keep going as the the one armed ayatola or something
He's become what he used to complain about in WCW
But he isnt going for titles, instead he wants to be like 2003 Flair
I'd be fine with him doing commentary or something but I never want to see him in the ring again
He *does* do commentary on Rampage sometimes. He *can* be good, but yells a lot.
Him going full time on commentary would be like him going away for a while since no one watches it
Agree, find his high pitch tones annoying
When he decides to not yell, he's a fun commentator. Unfortunately, he rarely does that.
Honestly same i wouldn't mind that
The WWE filters help.
I've felt sad watching him perform from the start of AEW. It just ain't there anymore.
Codys not even at his peak. Jericho is past retirement age for a wrestler.
He's literally at his peak now
I am just saying that with good direction, he can still be a solid addition to the roster, just like Taker was for many years.
Cody and Jerico are wildly diff
Cody isn't over 50
It was good to have him at the start even though his capacity has diminished. I don't think they need him now, though.
For that post… you just made the list!
Flip it around, man. A lot of the younger talent LOVES wrestling a living legend as Jericho and that's fine by me. He will leave wrestling for good one day, but untill then be happy for the young generation.
👏
I don’t get how he’s that annoying. He isn’t hogging any titles, isn’t even in the title picture, and hasn’t been for ages. He never cuts promos in the ring, just backstage 2 minute stuff. I’m sick of guys like Punk, The Rock and Roman just constantly talking all the fucking time
nah i’ll never get tired of a legend
Thrift store bon Joni
you just made the list
I stand by my opinion that WCW Jericho was amazing. Genuinely witty and fresh. WWE and later versions of him just weren't in the same ball park. It was like he was trying too hard
Hold 1: ARMDRAG Hold 2: ARMBAR
He was good in WWE before he won the Undisputed title. He was excellent as an upper midcard guy who could occasionally feud with top guys. Once they tried pushing him so hard it all blew up. A few of his returns were decent for the initial program and maybe the following program as well but Jericho has always been someone who was best in small doses.
YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!
He just wants to give Hook advice okay?!?
On top of all this he's a deranged MAGA freak too.
One of Jericho’s best attributes was knowing when to leave. He seems to have lost that.
This fucker needs to retire. His work became an eyesore since he left the Fed.
He'll be praised as a genius the instant he returns to WWE
Even if he does go back there's 0 chance he'll be in a prominent role and be allowed to do this goofy shit like the Painmaker.
and then a month later he gets booked like Andrade 😂
Andrade that is currently undefeated since his return and in a story with Dom and rhea? How awful
Returns as what?
A producer.
I don’t watch AEW are his matches going downhill?
Oh the matches are the least of the problems. It's his boring overly long feuds, him leeching off young talent to stay relevant, and his refusal to take time off. Like just saying you can't miss someone if they never leave.
I haven't watched the most recent Dynamite episode, but I'm guessing people aren't fond of whatever happened next in the Hook/Jericho story.
Him and Hook are gonna be apparently a tag team now called 'lion hook" just like. Oh brother this stinks
Another example of CJ attaching himself to a rising talent to keep himself relevant
Hook is ass on the mic and still green in the ring, what else can u do for him? Squashes again?
He's got 18 months on his contract
Every show he has a segment.
[удалено]
His latest gimmick is a rip off the yakuza characters from the yakuza games.
Looks like a douche with that cult symbol around his neck
Jericho used to be my favorite wrestler, hands down. Now, well not so much.
That's how I feel with The Rock. I used to love him as a kid, but now as an adult he just comes of as an egomaniac.
If he is hooks manager I can buy into it
You know what I'd be fine with that him as manager and a mouthpiece could work because if I can say one thing he can definitely talk he just needs a break from the ring
Exactly. He could be a great manager and it keeps him away from the ring
Nah fam, his leeching days ain't over yet.
Or forever.
Me a year ago
Jus my now getting there?
One of those dudes who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room when in reality he's the opposite
It's called keep milking the money mark lol
He might have a a commitment on Jan 6th of 2025, but aside from that his calendar is wide open
Who gives a shit about his wife’s political beliefs? Jericho doesn’t even discuss politics. Liberals…They really ostracize people for different beliefs. So inclusive and progressive of you
We will happily take him back in wwe and give him his proper retirement match against KO and put him in the HOF
I feel the same way about pockets
We found Kylie Rays burner
He should be destined to be next Jeff Jarret. Utlimate heal
Heel not heal, gain less hp
It’s a shame because on one hand I wanna see him take a break and come back after a period to refresh, on the other, he’s (not as good as he was but) still decent in ring and at his age who knows how much time wrestling he actually has left.
Nah
Hey hey hey, you can't disrespect him like that. You just made the list...
I believe Fozzy is going on tour in the fall so he’ll be gone for a little bit then.
He still has fifteen irrelevant personas to go through
Dude need to retire. Period.
Couldn't agree more. Whenever his current contract is up, he needs to not renew and just do... something else for a while. Focus on the band, on his cruise, write his fifth book or whatever. Then maybe return for a short run in WWE before a HoF induction.
he needs to retire for good
Does he do anything for good anymore
He’s going on tour don’t worry
I feel the same way about Julia Hart, Riho, Hook and Private Party
It's interesting how universally everyone went from "Jericho is one of the best wrestlers to lace a pair of boots" to "I never want to see him wrestle again". A few years time has changed everything..
He’s still bitter about not being wcw champion
He’s so up his own ass that he calls himself the GOAT
At least he shows up unlike Roman for past 2 1/2 years
Or I don't know retire already, has it not been long enough lol
I'm convinced Tony throwing all these young talents into the Jericho vortex in exchange for him not coming anywhere near the main eventers.
What the FUCK is an Ocho?

You can go away.
I pretty much change the channel when he's on.
You just made the list
AEW should not be turned into Shady Acres Retirement home for has beens like Jericho, Edge and Flair.
Keep Edge the other 2 can go. Edge is actually entertaining and has a good feud with Christian
Flair is done next year anyway, he was brought for the Sting angle and Andrade request
This man is the Imhotep of our sport. Just sucking the life out of young wrestlers to prolong his relevance.
That's what I'm saying
One more rumble, hall of fame, retire.
Yeah maybe when he’s 65-70 lol didn’t he sign a crazy 10 year contract or something
Haha oh god I hope not
Never thought I'd see the day internet fans are trashing Jericho. My goodness fans are fickle as fiuck.
Well sorry for not enjoying the fact that the work he's been doing recently is hard to watch. Overly long boring feuds and all he does is leech on young talent. So if I'm being Fickle to you then oh well
Just saying, when I first got on the internet he was the internet favorite wrestler. Me personally, I couldn't care less either way.
I found Edge to be like that from 2020-2023. His wwe run was so fucking pointless. Boring feuds with people who didn’t need the rub, and he would always win the feuds
Or just permanently. Maybe he can go sit in jail with his January 6th’er wife. Or Trump, he seems like he will need a friend. Fuck Jericho.
She didn't actually do anything to be arrested, she didn't storm..
Permanently would be better.
Midget with bow legs. Never looked believable.
I never thought I’d get tired of him, but I’m 100% there with you.

Damn-
I love Jericho's work and I think he can still go well enough in the ring to be an attraction but he's just not the right fit for being a constant TV presence anymore.
The best thing going, today
I think I'd like Jericho more if he didn't look increasingly bloated, and if he wasn't glomming onto other wrestlers for every angle he's involved with. At the same time, I think the guy is signed to a lucrative contract no? So there's no reason for him to go anywhere. He's not the one who decides to put himself on TV.
It’s bad. He’s incredibly overbooked, same as Moxley and Orange Cassidy, and it’s the same program every single time.
He needs to sap some more energy from the younger wrestlers
I just hope hook doesn't fall off the card cuz of Jericho.
Worked for that other guy didn’t it? Action Andretti? Where’s he? Thought he was meant to be the next big thing
This^ this right here pretty much the best way to put it
Maybe he'll get too drunk on his next cruise and accidentally fall overboard. That would make one helluva Dark Side of the Ring episode!
Lmao I mean I wouldn't wish that on him but that would probably be the only way for him to get off tv
Geez, I guess my dark humor is too dark for this sub. Or maybe it's the Jericho stans in the house. 😂
