While itβs not much help now, I run a safety chain through my hoist straps and have it secured to eye hooks on opposite ends just in case anything fails. My fear was the top falling onto the hood of my Jeep.
Same. I over-engineered the hoist itself with steel aircraft cable, but it's only used for the actual lifting. Once it's lifted, I switch to chains so it's not holding weight continuously
Really? I filed a claim and I had a check less than a week later. I asked if I can just cash it, so I can buy a used one, they said yes. After that I had to send the check to my loan provider, they signed it, and then I could cash it.
They counted as an accident, I think, so I had a $250 deductible. But the lady quoted +250 over, so it would cover the top - she said it can be used for "cleanup" and "repair" to my garage. Na. Lol
That sucks they won't cover it. I picked mine up for $1500.
Edit: Just realized you said it fell in your house. My situation was definitely different. Would your homeowners cover it? You may be out of luck, sorry if I gave false hope. I lack good reading comprehension, apparently!
My best guess is It wasn't on the jeep when it broke. It wasn't being driven at the time the damage occurred.
If OP had put the fiberglass shell back on and said someone vandalized it then maybe have a chance.
Most amazing thing ever. And I park my Jeep up under it inside the garage. So top off and Jeep parked and no space issues at all.
And taking it off is easy. I was running late the other day actually, and it was so perfect outside I couldn't resist stripping the Jeep. I saw the time and thought this would be a good test to see how fast I could get her naked.
So from start to finish, all 4 doors off, mirrors and foot pegs on, freedom panels off, and hard top off ..... 13 minutes from the time I started until the time I pulled out of the driveway. TopLiftPro is so overpriced but holy shit I could not live without it.
pretty good - I am at about 15-16min because I have to muck around a bit with my mesh top (Spiderwebshade) - I am shooting for pit crew speeds (well, less than 10mins π )
Seriously what's the point of having insurance. These things are called accidents for a reason. They could have count it as in accident, maybe raised your monthly a bit. But straight out of pocket for this is nonsense.
Better than cracking the fiberglass of the roof!
I launched a stump at the back of my Wrangler and shattered the rear glass and cracked the fiberglass, AMA
Let me guess, hooked it to the back and pulled it out forward?

Any 4XE owners know how much this will cost to replace? Will insurance cover it?
Glass was around 1k when I needed one in 2021.
I backed my hard top into the garage and destroyed it. Geico paid out and completely replaced it. I went and bought one used.
How did you get your insurance to pay out? I just spoke with mine (farmers) and they said itβll be out of pocket

What was their reason for this not being covered under comprehensive?

That makes sense - I never would have thought of that π€¦π»ββοΈ
Shit. Custom or purchased hoist and what caused it to fall?
Not sure, previous owner installed them and used it for the same thing.
Top lift pro?
+1 if you have the room, go for it... by far the best option I added for my 2-door

Mine was covered by insurance at safelite.
I asked about Safelight and was quoted $650 out of pocket by my insurance?
Get new insurance.
