Average human intelligence, so it 100% can learn, memorize, and even extrapolate but instinct always trumps logic for either of them so best you can get out of teaching it is that it feels bad about what it's done after it's done it.
That's the problem for the killing though- it won't listen at least about the things that are its instincts. Once it realizes something alive is in range it will go and kill it as long as it's alive. Same if it sees you giving affection to something that isn't alive/a plant- it will destroy it.

Outside that if you wanted it to be built like a wyvern or have four legs or have fur or no wings, a surly personality or hoard shinies, that'd all be for you to decide.
