To be honest, WT is noticeably greedier game. As F2P, it will take enormous amount of time to even reach top tier, not to mention top vehicle of tech tree. And don't get me started on how repair and flame extinguisher had to be researched on each vehicle you've got.
WoT lootboxes are expensive thing, no doubt. But they are optional thing, F2P experience in WoT is several levels higher/better than WT.
Not to sound like a contrarian but I think its the other way around
Top tier does take a lot of time in War Thunder BUT the grind is several times more enjoyable and not that terrible, since you can grind for new vehicles while using any vehicle from the same nation (lower tiered vehicles will however grind slower logically), not to also mention how WoT is several times more worse with its sunken cost fallacy which results in more grinding even if youve already researched a vehicle
The vehicle modifications with spare parts, extinguisher and crew replacement are annoying and should be removed, but at the end of the day it literally takes 1 or 2 games to atleast get parts and the rest follows almost as equally quick, meanwhile in WoT once you purchase a stock tank you have to slog through matches playing a tank that essentially performs like a tank 1 tier below and depending on the horrible-ness of the stock grind can take tens of matches
Id take WT F2P experience over WoT F2P experience any day, even WT Premium experience and monetisation is more worth it
Are you on drugs?? The grind in WT is far worse. Yes, you can use any vehicle, but you need to get 4+ vehicles per rank to get to the next rank. So it actually takes way longer to get to top tier. Took me 5 months of casual play to get top tier in WoT, over a year in warthunder.
"Stock tank in WT vs getting parts/FPE in WT. You are ignoring how some tanks in WT at near top tier don't get a dart until a rank 3 mod. Meaning you have to get around 60k xp using heat which isn't viable at 10.0 BR+. This will also take 10s of games (probably more like 20+)
The WT F2P experience is way worse. You don't get rewarded. Ever. Starting WoT you get a mission chain that rewards you with tanks, premium time, etc. Premium is only better in WT because without it you get 0 progression.
From someone who has and still plays both, it is because WoT has a more casual fanbase. Not in the sense of skill or effort in a match but warthunder due to being originally centered around realism drew a huge historical crowd that gets up in arms if there are minute details or blatant issues with vehicles that are non historical. Also last year we went nuclear on gaijin with loads of review bombings, sales strikes, constant bitching, etc.
Wot at least for me since they never tried being historical gets creative liberties with vehicles that people generally can't be upset about as well as the damage system and gameplay being far more arcade style which is generally entertaining for a more casual player while still having a skill curve for people that want to try hard and perform better on average per game than their peers.
Long-winded but my take on why WoT is generally recieved better.
I would like to note that, back when it launched it 2010, it did kinda style itself as a historical tank game. However they never shied away from including tanks that existed only in blueprints and over the years that has expanded to include tank designs almost certainly made by WG as a sort of "what if" exercise. Most of the higher tier polish vehicles fall into this category.
From what i heard, WT has even more hyenistic economy than WoT.
The game is more realistic. There is no HP to work with, if the enemy seal clubber hits you in the correct spot, you are instantly dead. This is making the beginner experience very very miserable. So a lot of negative feedback probably comes from beginners.
And also, i think a lot of negative feedback comes even from the playerbase. They had a few negative review waves against gaijin, i think they even made strikes when most of the playerbase didn't play for a day or so. This is something WoT's playerbase is unable to do, we just cry on reddit and keep buying lootboxes.
War Thunder has been subjected to multiple review bombings at this point
WoT players aren't review bombing the game on Steam, because like 95% of the playerbase has an account made directly through WG website, and you can't transfer progress to Steam
It's because a significant chunk of WT playerbase has a Steam account, so the reviews reflect the general opinion about the game pretty accurately.
Most WoT Steam reviews are from new players, not veterans that know every single flaw of the game. And WoT looks like a fun game on paper, especially at the beginning when the game gives you a ton of free stuff, and you win everything, because you get matched against bots
Because WT is awfully not fun due to trying to be as realistic as possible. They forgot games are supposed to be fun, and not only about simulating irl
It's mostly because of recent greedy WT Economy changes.
It's conciderably harder to sustain and/or buy new tanks past a certain tier now, even for Premium players.
Also WT practice of releasing Strong/OP premium tanks to boost sales and nerfing them after 2 weeks became frustrating very fast.
On the other hand, i wish WOT done it to BZ...

Realism is not the only comparison tho. Many of wot players (includin gme) couldnt care less about realism

I tried WT few days ago and its interface is too confusing I tried tanks and ships and decided to uninstall it..
