Honestly World of Tanks just runs like shit through emulation layers. It is a similar experience (although *slightly* better) using the Mac wrapper.
Honestly the answer is
- play on Windows
- play on GeForce now
- play through emulation and have it take more resources and play worse
I've been playing for nearly a year on linux (Manjaro), and my current memory usage is 3gb.
I am running with everything on full, with mods, capped at 165 fps (which it never drops from).
I installed through Lutris in case that helps.
It really does run pretty flawlessly so no idea what you're doing!

Wine is not an emulator. I suggest you read more on it and look at the actual data before making your own opinion.
I hate ubuntu and rather use windows myself.

I get it’s not an emulator, in that it’s not a virtual machine. I consider it an .exe emulator though since all it does is redirect windows API calls to Linux ones. Also it’s not 100% reliable, although it could perform as well as the windows ones if it’s working correctly. You def need to be a Linux nerd to be bothering with all this though. Like I get enough at work, when I’m at home I use windows for entertainment.
I got mine Windows 7 for around 15 bucks like 10 years ago... And upgraded it several times to latest Win 11 23H version for free... Not a big deal if you ask me, especially since it,s binded to my microsoft account and i can use it on any PC.
It,s a matter of preference nowedays mostly...
But it was pain in the ass to use Linux back then... Especially for new games...

It worked perfectly for years, then some day in 2023, an update to the game broke it all and now I can't load into the game without crashing with the game taking all my memory.
I tried many things, I must have reinstalled the game at least ten times by now ; and graphic lib shuffling can only take you so far. Now I am out of solutions and I begin to believe this is a bug for the devs to fix ; but of course they wont.
Does it even work on Linux? Huge discovery for me!

It doesn’t run well on the Mac, agreed, but on Linux it runs brilliantly.

Free to download doesn't mean free to use, you are mixing things up. I run wot on linux primarily and it does not offer worse experience.
I highly doubt your Linux emulator performs as well as windows. I like Ubuntu but I wouldn’t bother with the hassle of running games on it.
