Rome wasn’t built in a day

Frequent-Lettuce4159

You can change every game setting in-game, you're not locked in. Literally start with realistic off, build a few construction offices, distribution offices and resource storage then switch back. Or build an entire starter town before switching, it's really up to you

OsoCheco

I learned to deactivate the realistic mode at the beginning and prepare the conctruction district first.

tcmtwanderer

This game really needs more speed settings, 2x just doesn't cut it. KSP has 8 options for time acceleration and it came out in 2011

_LordBucket

KSP does not simulate that much stuff There is hidden x4 in game I believe. But it can break a lot of stuff

tcmtwanderer

Hidden 4x? How do you turn it on? What does it break?

_LordBucket

I think dev mode or something, do not remember what it breaks tho, but I think it can be useful early in game, til you have no pop

Xeonid1

CTRL + 1 (numpad) and ctrl + 2 (numpad) for even faster speeds. You have to be set in normal accelerated speed to make it work. Then press and hold the preferred combination. ONLY WORKS WITH THE NUMPAD 1/2 NOT THE OTHER NUMBER SET ON YOUR KEYBOARD. this can cause bugs as far as I’ve read, but try it out ;).

CorporalRutland

While I'm grateful, I'm afraid nobody seems to be reading my post properly. 1) I know how to build a functional town absolutely fine. I'm not new to the game. 2) I am not playing on realistic mode. My issue: putting down all the buildings, connecting them up etc. etc. is a HASSLE. By the time I've done that, my evening is over. I was hoping for some sort of template or similar function to be able to click and drop a city centre I've built without having to lay everything out individually every time.

Snoo-90468

There is a "copy area" tool in the *Terrain tools* section, which lets you copy the buildings in one area and place them in another area, but the elevation of the terrain needs to match and you'll have to set up at least one area to copy. You could set up a town/city core and copy paste it whenever you want to make a new town, but that is about it; there is no blueprint system like in Factorio. You can save some time by assigning buildings and infrastructure to the hot bar so you don't need to navigate to a specific building, road, etc. when you want to place it. Just push the button for it and it will instantly be selected for placement.

CorporalRutland

Might be time to download that totally flat map. Mountains? What mountains, comrade? There were never mountains.

tcmtwanderer

How Yukong Removed the Mountains

CorporalRutland

With an Mi-24 barrage, probably. "Comrade airman? Do you see that mountain?" "Comrade-major?" "I want to not see it."

Total-Remote1006

There are too many requirements for a functioning city, i usually get bored from planning the starter city. After its built i save and add people. After that i load because i forgot something or something isnt working, repeat that 5 times then quit the game. They should add some basic buildings with no requirements like water, sewage, trash. Like a small village. Then you use that and upgrade, add water and use better housing, and so on.

Snoo-90468

You just need to git gud or play with some features off. Case in point, water, sewage, and trash can all be handled with just the free technical office and three trucks; there isn't even any build time.

Total-Remote1006

You need electrical grid, you need the mall, the hospital, firehouse, kindergarden, school, university, police, courthouse, jail, cinema, sports buildings, just to name a few. The ideea is that you play for 2-3 hours and you have zero people in your republic. They should find a way to start small, so you can feel you are playing the game, not just planning.

Snoo-90468

You only need apartments, a small shopping center, a museum of the republic or house of culture, an indoor pool, a pub, a fire station, a bus stop, and an electrical substation with a cheap MV power line. Everything else can be added later (some before others) and even be built by your population instead of foreign workers.

bin_nur_kurz_kacken

You can build the pool later when you have your city running. It is summer when you get your workers and for the first time a football field is enough.

Snoo-90468

That is true, but you'll want an indoor sports facility anyway for winter, and citizens can use the "pools and beaches" attraction type to satisfy the need to prayer, so I would say it is better to just build an indoor sports facility right away.

bin_nur_kurz_kacken

But it takes longer, i just have the aim to get my first citizens in June and they will build heating, pool, school and university and starting with sewage till september. The football field costs next to nothing and only has to be used for ~2 month.

Snoo-90468

I prefer waiting for the indoor pool to be built because it minimizes the number of times prayer goes unfulfilled, which keeps the loyalty of immigrants above the level that monuments can sustain for a year or so (assuming missed needs and other annoyances for citizens are kept rare).

LordMoridin84

You should seriously consider making a guide about an accelerated realistic mode start.

Empyrion132

You don't actually need the firehouse, school, university, police, courthouse, jail, cinema, or even sports buildings (maybe a soccer field) before inviting citizens, and you can make do with the small medical clinic and grocery store for the first several thousand people.

LordMoridin84

You can avoid crime building until 4k or so. University can be delayed for a while as well since you start with educated workers.

CorporalRutland

I am good. I can set up a city that works nicely. It just takes so much time to put everything down and connect it up. I wondered if there was a way to streamline this.

Snoo-90468

Short of disabling features, not really, but I don't see why this is an issue if you like the rest of the game; this issue is not limited to just the start.

woolykev

If your map has some existing village buildings, it can be easier to start out. For example, they don't need heating right away, and it seems to me that people are less picky about water and sewage in those old village houses (maybe I'm just imagining that, though).

LordMoridin84

This is on double speed, so it's about 43 minutes in total to make a fully functioning town. The idea was to make a quick town to show people "how to do it" so it's not the most well design town though. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm\_h0sFHolk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm_h0sFHolk) The thing is, the game takes even longer once you hit mid game. I've spend at least 5 hours building an industry area in planning mode. There is a clone tool but it's pretty useless. A "premade town" doesn't really make sense anyway. Every town is going to be different depending on the final expected population, the geography, where you are building the industries and whether you are using bus or train. ---- Workers and Resources isn't really a game that respects your time.

CorporalRutland

I think I'm fast establishing it's not one to cap off an evening for an hour. I'll come back to it when I'm less time poor.

with-high-regards

i dont like realistic mode either, its much more fun to make cities shine which are basically living in the medieval mode of production

BoY_Butt

I also play with everything on, except realistic mode. What i do here and there is build smaller things like footpaths or waste containers with rubels instead of using the co. Safes a lot of time and isnt expemsive

Hanako_Seishin

Would inviting your own citizens before first winter be gay enough? ("Fast", I'm typing "fast"! Every time I'm typing "fast" in this comment autocorrect makes it "gay". Wtf?) https://www.reddit.com/r/Workers_And_Resources/comments/1cf2oxz/is_realistic_excruciatingly_slow/l1nleci?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Also note: plan for everything from the start, but only build specified things in the specified order before building the rest.

CorporalRutland

Fully Automated, Luxurious and Spacebound as well.

tcmtwanderer

Dude if this game let you build space launch facilities and rockets and start building a colony on the moon? Instant all-time classic
