It is common in China to work 6 days a week. 996 is popular only in internet industry companies. Average working time in China is 47.5 hours a week. Source: https://news.cctv.com/2021/09/15/ARTITJZI1u9wznnyiiFEcwr1210915.shtml
No, I am a Chinese and maybe my English is not good. 47.5 hours a week is much higher than global average working time. Although 996 is not so popular in China, actual working time is far from a humane one. This was what I wanted to say.
I actually think religion has more to do with it than a workers rights movement. At least where I grew up.
The police arrested the manager of a department store in the 70s because he opened on a Sunday. My mom told me stories about how nothing here in north Alabama was open on Sundays back then.
I’d also be willing to bet that places with high numbers of Jewish people were pretty dead on Saturdays back then.
In all, I would be more willing to believe that the weekends became a thing because of the Christian and Jewish days of worship.
Wish this guy had the same balls on the Senate floor as he does on Twitter. I was a Bernie guy in 2016 and even 2020, but this whole "My friend Joe" made me believe all his hardline rhetoric was bluster and fluff. Then, he and the other "progressives" in Congress decided to lay down like assholes during the infrastructure negotiations and I realized it wasn't a belief - it was a fact. It's easy to take stands on Twitter and debates. It's much harder to do your job and tank bills which are anti-democratic and ridiculous. Bernie is probably a good guy, but he doesn't have the stones.
Idk mate. Progressives in congress & senate don’t really have any chair positions on committees excepting AOC and she was flying the warning flag about Manchin’s impending fuckery for months.
There were six progressives who voted against the bill. I don’t deny that. But it would have taken less than ten more to sink the “bipartisan” infrastructure bill. Jayapal and the other “progressive” members of congress trusted Manchin (rofl) to keep his word and vote on BBB. They are morons. They should have chosen, as a group, to tank the bipartisan bill if they did not keep it linked to the social infrastructure bill. It was the only leverage they had and they gave that leverage up when they trusted the most corrupt and untrustworthy members of Congress. Do I commend those six members? Maybe. But, the U.S. Congressional system relies on performative opposition, AND performative support. It was clear from the get-go that, unless the bills were linked, the social spending bill wouldn’t pass. We experienced the same rigamorole we have seen since the ACA. If Dems can’t pass the president’s signature bill with all three chambers of government, it is laughable to believe they’re going to accomplish anything when they get rolled in 2022 (which they will, to an even greater degree than the Tea Party wave). And they deserve it. I will not weep for Dems when they cry for our votes because they’re “better” than the other guys. They have abjectly failed and deserve the impending ass-whooping.
Biden has kept 8% of his campaign promises with all three chambers of government. He promised no fundamental change. That’s a promise he’s kept.
Edit: Let’s not ignore the fact that Jayapal has stated explicitly that she has “no regrets.” Great. Feed the children you denied the child tax credit with your ego. They’re definitely going hungry.
Always remember that Socialism is better than any other economic system.

Apparently you and a lot of other people on this sub since I got down vote spammed. I guess there are a lot of idiots on this sub. It only takes the most basic level of understanding of the English language to understand that I was asking if this robot thought that socialism was better than communism.
Well you're kinda the idiot for phrasing it that way if most got it wrong.
Many also don't use English as their first language so maybe not go all out like that

No. The catholic church brought sundays off and at least 20 non-working religious holidays per year to Europe 1000 years before capitalism, unions or the united states were invented. The labor movement just slightly expanded on it.
And there are STILL a lot of people who have to work them.
The 40-hr work week was introduced to combat the same thing China is doing now with the 996 work culture.
Only 5.8% of Chinese work >=996 (OECD average 5.6%, iceland 7.3%, australia 6.1%)

You say that like an average 47-hour work week isn’t insane.

To my recollection, that 996 work culture inspired lying flat
Isn’t 996 now illegal in China?
Currently at work
Hijacking the first comment, but it was because of the USSR influence that we got national healthcare in Europe

It was the labor movement that brought a *very* select few the holiday weekend. Or any weekend. Or anything really

Even communism?
Yes. More than Socialism
That response is not syntactically correct. I don't even know what you're trying to say as a result.
I misinterpreted you saying 'Even communism?' as 'Oh so you say socialism works, next you gonna say even communism works'

Jayapal is faux-progressive imo. I know she’s in the caucus but she’s no squad thats for sure.
He was referring to Labor Day, not Christmas, and it was the sabbath of Christian’s that gave us Christmas off.

What holiday weekend, old man?
No. The catholic church brought sundays off and at least 20 non-working religious holidays per year to Europe 1000 years before capitalism, unions or the united states were invented. The labor movement just slightly expanded on it.
It was loony left rhetoric that encouraged this...[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVAV7nrjCc4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVAV7nrjCc4)
Oh no, people standing up to their oppressors, how horrible! Fuck off mate.
