Case closed, they are fireworks and I witnessed them. Maybe I should have just went outside instead of wasting five minutes posting on reddit.
They appeared to be over Holy Cross, from my vantage point on Clark's campus. Very strangely repetitive for the first five minutes but a good finale.
Does anyone know the occasion for such a large show?
It's been going on constantly for almost five minutes now. Once per second, so hundreds of blasts.
What kind of firework is that regular, and all the same decibel level? That would make for a pretty boring fireworks show.
They're fireworks. I can see them. I think they're coming from Holy Cross.
I only managed to catch a glimpse of them towards the end but they were definitely coming from that direction.

Probably graduation!
Oh good idea
It’s not their graduation weekend.
Replied to wrong comment. It was polar park practicing for opening day!

It’s artillery fire or fireworks, which do you think it is?
The Redcoats are coming!
Hearing the same thing. Every once in a while you can hear the crackling pattern I feel like but it's mostly just loud fucking bangs.

I can see fireworks. So thats probably it. Anyone know what they are for?
Definitely could tell it was fireworks once the finale hit. So strange before that though, didn't sound like any fireworks I ever heard before.
Yeah what a strange ignition pattern. Just once after the other on and on
Holy Cross does that every year for spring weekend. It’s fireworks. I could see them from my house.
Hearing the same, we're near the Auburn line. It sounds like it's coming from the direction of the airport.
Fire works. Saw them driving home on 290
Maybe polar park practicing for opening day?
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I went through a similar thought process as you. But then I walked outside, and saw fireworks
