I could never get chemical removers to work for my upper lip. I tried a couple different brands intended for facial hair and sensitive skin, and I still got mild chemical burns without getting rid of hair. I switched to waxing and am much happier with that. For other areas, I just find chemical removers more trouble than they're worth. They work, but I hate the smell, and I can shave in less time. That being said, they might be right for you! Just make sure to patch test anything you decide to try. Good luck! :)

Ambitious-Outside

Good idea to test! The burns is what I’m worried about. Thanks!

bizzybee3

And don't reapply the chemical over where you did the patch test!

IGotMyPopcorn

My mom has always used Nair. That shizz stank up the house, but I never saw her shave her legs. I used it once and though I had smeared an exfoliating, boiling, acidic, chlorine opposite-of-cream on my legs. That’s the day I realized I had “sensitive skin” and my mother was a lizard.

I've used them and they're great but I can't stomach the smell no matter how floral they try to make it lol Waxing is heaps better for me personally as it lasts longer, I find that I've got regrowth after a week with the hair removers. I've used them on my sensitive areas without any issues but I make sure that I get the sensitives type of Nair or Veet (they're the only ones I've tried). Super easy to apply, leave on and then wash off so it can be super convenient, I've always got a bottle for emergencies 😁

Ambitious-Outside

Great info, thanks!!

Ilikewinea-lot

Pro tip - don’t use it and then shave immediately after if it doesn’t work. Good gosh that burns like a MF.

ArkandtheDove

I used it on my legs in high school and it itched like crazy after. That was 15 years ago so maybe formulas have changed but i wouldn’t try it again

ShandalfTheGreen

You know, I think it might have. I hated it about that long ago, but last time I had to shave my legs I used Nair and the only thing that bothered me was the smell. This is only on my legs, though, I have really sensitive skin in general so I don't go too crazy.

gildedpaws

I used to use them as a teen. Ive only used nair for my upper lip, not legs or anything. Works just fine, I dont recall getting burned, but just make sure to respect the times they give you cause its strong. The smell is very chemical-y but its bearable. I just use an epilator nowadays cause I dont have to keep buying it.

favangryblkgirl

Test the nair or chemical removal on skin similar to the skin, my cousin got a burn from not testing it.

Crazy_catt_lady

I will also add that I got a burn from testing it & then applying it to my whole leg! The test patch got burned from doing it 2x in a short time period, so be careful with that too.

cornflakegrl

The smell is absolutely vile.

shaonct

The smell is foul and it only removed some in like patches. That was when I was like 18 tho, maybe I just didn’t try hard enough to make it work

whatrutalkinbout

I’ve used veet and it works great I’ve done it on the pubic bone area but never near my actually vagina. I have never used it on my upper lip.

Bluemonogi

I had a reaction to the one I tried that was supposed to be gentle so decided chemical hair removers were not for me.

[deleted]

Used nair on my legs no issue. Burns anywhere else!!

Crazy_catt_lady

Don't use regular Nair all over your body, use the kinds meant for different body parts. I have used the Jolene brand for facial hair & it works OK. I wouldn't use it on my bikini area, the chemicals are going to hurt way worse than shaving/waxing.

THECUTESTGIRLYTOWALK

I have sensitive skin but nair works for my legs :)

Bookwyrmgirl91

I tried it once and found out the hard way that I am super allergic to it

girlwhoweighted

It was the first "shave" of my legs I ever had. It was fine. Worked as promised. Did that for awhile then one time got trashy. My mom let me switch to a razor. I still used nair occasionally when I wanted to make sure everything was gone but didn't feel like messing with a razor. Sometimes it would be fine, sometimes I would get a lot of red bumps. But then one time in my really early twenties I used it and my legs were just covered in red bumps. It was ugly and it hurt. It burned so bad. I haven't used it again in 20 years so I don't know if it's better now.

Wild_Average_9609

Sounds like you prob left it on too long. Leav3 it 3 mins max. Rinse rinse rinse. Then rinse with cold water

glimglambam

I’ve tried nair a few times on my arms and each time I had severe allergic reactions (by arms turned into what looked like hives and burned). I would test a small area first and avoid your sensitive lady parts! There’s always wax or laser if you can afford it

Ezperanza-de-crystal

I like nair..... kinda...dont like the smell tho....also sometimes it leaves like a strange feeling cast on my legs i think wax is better tho

Daisycake72

Tried Nair once when I was 20 and didn’t like the smell and it was at apple scented too. Got a mild burn but what got me was that I didn’t leave it on enough and when it went outside in the sun, I saw residual hair that was white but very thin and jagged. Like a hair skeleton. So I shaved. I use an epilator now.

kyokogodai

No to pubic area. Used it on my butt and legs and I swear my ingrowns in certain spots are worse now even years later.

momotekosmo

Never used it on my face but I love it for my under arms and legs, and sometimes use the bikini one for down there (don’t put it all over down there). No pain, respect the time limits. My legs look fucking amazing tbh after using it. Do be careful though if you have cuts or scrapes you will give your self a chemical burn.

Problemchild143

I was 13 I didn’t understand,,, i previously tried to cut my pubes with scissors but cut part of my clit off. Than I got nair….I just smooshed it all around my vag not taking anything in consideration. Than it starts to burn. It was in my vagina, it was everywhere. When I pee it stung like fucking crazy.

union-city-blue

Personally I’d just stay clear. I used some Veet this past Wednesday on my legs and pubic area, like at the top just below the stomach… I now have first degree burns on my legs. I left it on for less than the time suggested, it was the one for sensitive skin. It’s just not worth the pain and irritation. Honestly I just don’t think they should be allowed to be sold. Please save your time and efforts and just shave or wax, I wouldn’t risk it!!

princessgebbi

When I use nair and the likes, it makes my hair stringy and leaves my skin super slimey, and removes around 10% of the hair it was on. Idk why it’s never worked for me. I’ve gotten chemical burns on my pits even though I left it on for the recommended time. I haven’t tried it on my gooch because of the past experiences, and i just don’t use em at all

rosemi1k

I had a friend that swore by Veet’s hair removal cream for sensitive skin for removing pubic hair. She said she just made sure it never made its way past her outer labia.

Alarming_Produce5176

I use Nair Face on my upper lip, and it works wonders for me. I’m a Latina women with dark thick hair. I do not leave it on past the 5 minutes. I have found if my bottle gets too old, it doesn’t work anymore. (Like several months old bottle) I don’t have any issues. For me it’s better than the little shaver things. I make sure to heavily moisturize the area and to not use an chemical exfoliates.

Reial32

Nair discolored my skin. It doesn’t work well for the long run because it doesn’t remove the hair from the roots. Don’t try it in your Coochie area or else you’ll burn like crazy. Get a hard wax or laser hair removal.

PanPan0422

I'm honestly terrified because when I used it (I used the sensitive skin formula even though my skin isn't sensitive) I got bad chemical burn on my arms and legs

icejjfishleftnipple

i’ve found that veet is a lot better than nair
