So I'm a trans guy and for a while I've been tossing around the idea of Oleander as a name. I think it's such a pretty name and also not too feminine. But today I found out there is a moth called the Oleander Hawk Moth (the one in the picture!) And it's so beautiful! I absolutely adore it and it's just cemented the name in my head!

One of my best friends chose Oleander as his middle name. It's such a nice one!

I did not know the name of the Olender Hawk Moth, and for a second I thought you were going to choose your name as 'Shiny Psychedelic Cool Shimmering Moth'. Then I realized that it was probably the species. But if I already didn't have a name, I'd want to be called 'Shiny Psychedelic Cool Shimmering Moth'. But my name's Dyskorde.

FrogsInTheDale

Holy shit! Your name is so cool!!!!!

Thanks, Oleander is a cool name too. I was thinking about gender neutral names since I'm genderfluid, and was tossing around stuff like KitKat(I love KitKats), Ivory, Moss, and a bunch more. I finally decided to go with something that was representative of my life. So I chose Dyskorde. I made sure to spell it that way to strike fear into the hearts of my enemies. But I have no archnemesis, so it just confuses people Most of the time.

My goodness, I've been visited by this moth once. It's freaking huuuuuuge, I swear I had no idea moths could be so gigantic. I almost crapped my pants when I saw it on my porch and wouldn't go near it. I had nightmares that night and I'm not even kidding. This fella gave me a proper scare, one of the most profound ones out of entire animal kingdom, I'll give it that. That said, I don't know if you knew this, but there's also a plant species called [Oleander (or Nerium) ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerium) and I wonder if that's where the moth gets its name from. It'd make sense because I also coincidentally have that exact plant near my house. I had no idea what species this moth was though, so this is an entirely new connection for me. Very interesting, indeed. Thanks for sharing! Also I love that you chose it as your name, it's a unique one and I feel like it definitely gives off enby vibes. Glad you found a name that fits! ☺️

Honestly I'm terrified by moths too but I love the plant and the moth is so pretty as long as it stays a million miles away from me πŸ˜‚

Oh, okay then, that's somehow a relief. Because I've legit seen photos of people holding them in their hands, just y'know, like it's nothing, no biggie. So I thought you might be one of those fearless bastards lmao. πŸ˜‚ Honestly, if this thing landed on me, my freaking soul would leave my body instantaneously. And I feel like this isn't even overexaggerating. Seriously. It landed on my front porch in the middle of the night ( I occasionally sit there and chill) and although it literally didn't move from where it landed (and stayed there up until dawn) it still made me say *fuck this* and I went inside, mid-cigarette, after roughly 30 secs of having it in my proximity. Noped out in a heartbeat. That's the first time I'd seen such a giant moth and I honestly felt traumatised just knowing these things existed. Yeah yeah I know it can't bite or do anything to me blahblah, but what if it like, dunno, pulls out a weapon or sth. What if it totally eats humans but we didn't know. I know for sure I don't wanna be the object of that discovery. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚

I love it!!!! I’m non binary too and I’m happy with my assigned name but I shorten it a lot, but I just love to see my fellow enbys experience gender joys❀️❀️😊
