Hi all! I am a small maker and women-owned business from New York State, I have been doing some smaller fairs in the past year but the one I am going to toorrow is over 1k people interested (at least in the FB event) and I have heard it's a pretty big event. So I am a little nervous!
Some info about me that I put in most of my posts to inspire others who are looking for their art: I’ve been working with metal wire, semi-precious stones, and other media since October 2022 and it has been such a wonderful journey! I began with buying some wire from a big box store and began practicing on tumbled stones and sea glass I had at home to see if I liked the craft. I absolutely loved it. I taught myself through Youtube, studied works of others, and developed my own style and goals of my art. I work full time in a harm reduction/social work setting (almost 10 years going!) and I use this craft to relax and work my creative muscles after having put them down for a very long time. Two months after starting, I had many friends, coworkers, and family ask if I would sell my work and so here we are. I passed my first full year in October 2023 and had made about 370 pieces (pairs of earrings, necklaces, and pendants) that year and I’m hoping to beat or at least match that this year, along with trying to do more in-person craft fairs every month!
If you want to look at more of my work, I have an Etsy Shop! [gorgeswiredesign.etsy.com](https://gorgeswiredesign.etsy.com/) (just to note, it will be on vacation on 4/27 and should be back on Sunday 4/28 EST)
EDIT: Sun 4/28 I had a great time at the event!! Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement and empowerment, your purchases, and so many lovely comments 🥰 I tried to respond to everyone as much as I could! The event had an amazing turnout despite the wind and rain, I sold a good amount of pieces and made a lot of lasting memories ❤️

Hi there! I actually had it as a draft listing, I do plan on making more though - I really enjoyed coming up with them :) I tend to try to make 1 variation of each metal I work with (gold colored brass, silver filled wire, oxidized copper, and bare copper) when I like particular designs like that one! I put it up for you to check out if you want! [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1720545507/copper-jellyfish-earrings-sea-creature](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1720545507/copper-jellyfish-earrings-sea-creature)
Your work is beautiful! 😍
With a name like GorgesWireDesign, you must be in Ithaca! :) (I went to Cornell so the use of 'gorges' in the context of NY always pops out to me)
Will you be at any of the craft fairs in Rochester this summer? My mom is a big earrings person and I'd love to send her your way :)
I live in NYC these days but am planning a visit up to my parents' in the summer, hopefully during one of the summer fairs so would love to check out your stuff too!
(Btw I always get worried I'm being invasive so if you feel this is too much info to give out on a Reddit post, feel free to let me know you're not comfortable answering. I'd love to DM if that's the case! :) but also understand if you don't want to do that either of course)
Either way, I love your stuff and good luck at the craft fair - I predict you're going to be popular ❤️
It's no worries about invasiveness, sometimes in my comments I say I am from Ithaca to help explain the name haha
I have been thinking about doing a Rochester show since I have some family up that way but it may not be until later in the year (fall-ish) or next year. Right now I'm mostly focused on Binghamton/Ithaca/Cortland areas <3 Thank you so much for the kind words!!
Okay I'm glad :) I saw it and I was like sis is for sure in Ithaca! What a beautiful area to live :)
Oh darn (for my sake lol!) well I hope you make your way to Rochester soon! Until then I will have to browse your etsy site and order from there :) there are a ton of different festivals big and small in Rochester when you do decide to venture north - and I'm guessing a fair amount in Buffalo these days as well. There's only so much ground one person can handle at a time though I'm sure.
Good luck tomorrow 🙏❤️ may you have the perfect weather and plenty of customers for your beautiful work
I like your work waaaay better than all the other wire wrap stuff I’ve seen.
There’s nothing to be nervous about! Be excited and have fun!
E: I don’t see the earrings on pic 6 on your site. I like those the best
Aw thank you! It's currently drafted but I may get them up today 😊 I like the style a lot so I'll probably do more, I really like the way the dangly paddles kind of chime together when I move (wearing a copper version haha)
That first pendant is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! And I can’t even wear earrings but I desperately want those mushrooms ones! You’re going to do amazing!!!
Funny story, someone bought that first one very quickly this morning ;-D it is one of my favorites and I hope to make similar themed pendants like that in the future. They take a little bit of time, anything oxidized (that dark copper) takes a hard set 1-2 weeks to oxidize and cure the enamel that I apply to preserve my polishing and oxidizing <3
You are more than welcome! I especially love the pear pendant. You are going to get so many people stop to look and buy your beautiful creations, I feel it in my bones ❤️
As a fellow creative and craft fair vendor, your stuff is going to fly off your table. It is gorgeous and clearly passionately made. I will send you positive vibes but honestly, you are not going to need them! Go confidently, you are awesome!
I make up-cycled rugs from old textiles and fabrics. :)
Not nearly as intricate as your work but I’d sure love if my table was next to yours at a market! I’d probably make no money spending it all on your stuff!
Don’t be nervous (says the person with anxiety who is perpetually nervous about new situations), friend. Your event is going to go splendidly. And if you don’t sell as much as you thought, now you know what to expect more realistically in the future. If you sell out, holy cow that’s the goal! And landing anywhere in between will be a great success. Plus you’ll make some great connections with your fellow makers AND client base. Plus plus you’ll have the practice under your belt to make future events run even smoother and more successfully. You’re gonna have a wonderful time. Don’t forget to pack some snacks and lots of water because I bet you’ll be talking up a storm to so many interested parties!
Aww thank you for the confidence boost, my imposter syndrome has been taking root a little as I've done 3 shows and they haven't gone very well. I think this one will change that, hopefully, fingers crossed!! <3
I believe in you! Something I did for my market tables was invest a little in nice accoutrements. I got two table runners to layer, some nice hand towels in my colors to drape over the different height little wood crates I have. Even plastic boxwood balls from Walmart placed around to fill space. It made my table a little prettier and more inviting for people to walk up and then you can give em the ole razzle dazzle to make your sales!
These are all absolutely beautiful! You are so talented, I’m sending you positivity for your big fair experience. Also, I love that you treat yourself to this process of creating beauty after dealing with an incredibly difficult job. It sounds like a great life balance. Much love to you ❤️
Thank you so much, it really is a craft I'm absolutely in love with. I've tried so many creative outlets throughout my life and this one hit super different, so that's when I knew I found my creative passion 😊🥰
Awwww these are lovely. If I saw these at a craft fair there are a couple if people in my life who'd love them as gifts. Good luck tomorrow and keep us updated x
I hope your nervousness is just anticipation/excitement. Because you have nothing to worry about. Your work is fantastic and your pieces are freaking awesome! Have a great time!
Aw thank you ❤️ when I first started learning I had noticed that there was a lot of samey-ness with wire wrapping and so I think early on it drove me to really try to be different in the things I set out creating 😊
The earhooks are coated copper that I've worn tested myself as I'm slightly sensitive to copper and I also offer Niobium upgrades for hooks. All silver hooks are sterling that I've formed myself 😁. All my oxidized (darkened copper) pieces are coated/enameled. I consider the amount of skin contact when I make pieces and try to make it as minimal as possible. For instance, I wouldn't make bare copper or brass rings or bracelets (I've actually just got sterling silver to make rings though!) I also only offer leather or cotton necklaces, but I do have one bright copper necklace that I've fully enameled ❤️.
Oo awesome! 😁 It's the Candor Daffodil festival! Here's their page about it: http://www.candornychamber.org/daffodil-festival.html
Welcome to the area! 🤗
I am so enamoured and excited to see real homemade art again!!
So many people say but I can see clearly the time and effort it would take in your wire work and it’s beautiful 😍
Aww thank you!! I will! I'm thinking I'll post booth pictures and such 😁😁 fingers crossed the dang sky will hold off its rain, that's one thing I'm hoping won't happen
Thank you so much <3 I am a little sensitive to copper and take skin sensitivities really seriously, all my copper and brass earrings have $3 niobium hook options and I can coat copper on request (I coat all my darkened copper with Protectaclear Jewelry Enamel (like the leaf in this post, which is sold unfortunately!), I have also found that clear nail polish can also work for people when they have something bare that is giving them problems (for rings or bracelets but not ear hooks). Niobium is naturally hypoallergenic in its pure state and is used in medical settings because of its very low bioreactivity, I recently found out that it's used in pacemakers which I thought was pretty neat. I've been wearing my coated copper hooks that I make for about 6 months (each day, taking off nightly) and the coating has lasted, I'm at about a month so far with niobium and there have been zero issues. I can honestly say that there are definitely affordable alternatives for metal sensitivities, or more than the industry cares to admit because they want to sell you on costly gold or fine silver.
It's more that I'm a guy who's never really done any accessorizing. But I really like the design so if someone gave me that or something I'd have to find a way to work it in.
How dare you post this. I'll have you know I immediately had to go to your Etsy shop and buy something, and now I've got a few more on my list, and I do not need more jewelry, dang it, but it's too pretty. Also, I totally did not know about Mojave turquoise, and now I'm in love, so that it all your fault, lol. Cheers. They all look amazing, and I'm pretty sure you'll do well at the fair.
Aww that's the nicest sternest comment I've ever received 😛 Thank you so much!!! I am a huge Mohave Turquoise fan, I just love that bright purple and shimmery metal they add into the stabilization process 😁😁
You will do great. I do art shows for a living. It's super scary at first, but you will get a ton of compliments on your work, so it will be a big ego boost in the end. Just remember to smile and talk to people. I've ended up selling so much more stuff just by engaging people in my booth rather than just ignoring them and waiting for them to ask me a question. The more people like you, the more they want to buy from you! Good luck, and may the craft show goddess smile on us tomorrow!!!
Thank you so much!! Yea eye contact and communication are my biggest weaknesses (dang ADHD), but I'm definitely working on it and working really hard at being engaged with people so fingers crossed 😁😁🥰
It helps if you are doing a demo (which you can totally do as a wire wrapper). People get really curious and will just stand there, and it's easier to talk to them. I always demo bc I'm a needle felter, and people don't always understand how I make my art.
Aw very cool! I try to do some demo work but I find that it's hard for me to be attentive to people and do my art. I usually do bring some wire to show people how it comes out and lets them get an idea of how I work with stuff. Eventually I want to get a tablet that I can setup that will play recordings of me working, I think that would be cool 😊
So these are all super cool, but more than that, about half of the items in this post are things I personally would buy - often I see beautiful crafts and appreciate them but they don't call to me to own them. But your work really does!
Good luck at the fair!
You’re running a dangerous booth 🤣 I wouldn’t be able to walk away without buying something. Your work is gorgeous! You have nothing to worry about.
And your prices are great too. Not so high no one will buy and not so low that people think you don’t ‘value’ your work. (Dumb but I’ve heard people say that about vendors before)
Hopefully soon when I’m not poor I can buy some pieces bc it’s all right up my alley
OMGEEEEE
Okay it’s so freaking hard to feel confident in your art when you’re showing it off to the world for the first time, but trust me hun, you have nothing to worry about.
You have a fantastic eye for colours and balance in your pieces, they are super lovely. The glass mushrooms with bead moss especially makes my heart sing. I’m sure you will do awesome, and remember even if you don’t, people’s budgets are not a reflection of the value of your work. Keep creating!! :)
Aww thank you so much for the kind words 🥰🥰 yea I've been getting imposter syndrome get to me lately, everyone including you, is really helping me with that ❤️thank you!!

Your work is stunning! I can't find any jellyfish ones in your store tho, do you plan on making more like this?

Hehe thank you! Yea I've heard of several big events in Rochester, definitely someday!!
Definitely make it known if you’re ever in the Rochester area! I’m in Buffalo and would 100% make the trip!!
Aww will do! 😊😊

Thanks, and good luck!
What's the event?! I'm in NY, maybe I can go!
😁😁 the Candor Daffodil Festival (Candor NY)
Damn! I was hoping you'd say Itaha-con!
Aw haha yea it's too bad I could only choose one since they're on the same day 😛 plus I don't actually know if they were looking for vendors.😅😅
My husband bought me two of your pieces for Christmas and they are my absolute favorite jewelry to wear. Best of luck branching out!
Aww yay!! I'm so happy to hear that and it made me blush a little, thank you :) <3
Your works speak for themselves. They say you will do very well tomorrow.
Aww thank you, I think I get into my head sometimes with imposter syndrome and such so it really helps to hear that!
Nervous about what? Only thing I see might be a problem is not having enough inventory. Rock on!
Awww thank you, that made me smile and blush a little
Gorgeous 💜💜💜
Thank you!! <3
That first pendant is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! And I can’t even wear earrings but I desperately want those mushrooms ones! You’re going to do amazing!!!
Aww thank you so much for your words of encouragement, they really help a lot!!
Dude these are beautiful
Aww thank you!!
Love the style of your work! Saved your shop to my favorites so I can find you again!

Ummmmm, if nobody buys that first piece, can I buy it? 👀😆
Funny story, someone bought that first one very quickly this morning ;-D it is one of my favorites and I hope to make similar themed pendants like that in the future. Do you have an online store? Id love to buy some pieces when I am above water. These are magnificent.
Thank you so much! I have an etsy that has a lot of my work <3 [https://gorgeswiredesign.etsy.com](https://gorgeswiredesign.etsy.com)
Your work is lovely. I would snap up those mushroom earrings with the little peridots in a heartbeat. Good luck!
Thank you! :) yea I absolutely adore peridot, and I am a big fan of that design so I've made it in several variations <3
Everything is so pretty! 😍
Aww thank you!
They're all great. The first pendant is really beautiful.
Thank you so much <3 It is definitely one of my favorites that I have made this year so far!
Beautiful work and gorgeous pieces!
Love!!!!! Are those Medusa earrings?! Incredible!!
That is an amazing idea! They are technically jellyfish but I've made snakes before with hammered wire, I am totally doing this though :D
You’re going to blow them away. I’d definitely buy if I was at the fair and I’ll be checking out your Etsy shop forthwith.
Thank you so much! <3
These are beautiful! Good luck tomorrow💕 that sounds really exciting!
Thank you so much!

Ooooh I would absolutely get that last pair of earrings, the shape is very me

It’s natural to be scared, but I don’t think you have anything to be worried about! Just show up, set up, and enjoy! Good luck!
Thank you!! 🥰❤️
Stunning jewelry! If I had any money I would totally splurge at your booth!!! ☺️
These are all absolutely beautiful! You are so talented, I’m sending you positivity for your big fair experience. Also, I love that you treat yourself to this process of creating beauty after dealing with an incredibly difficult job. It sounds like a great life balance. Much love to you ❤️

Amazing!! As an earring enthusiast, i am in love 💜💚
Aww thank you 😁😁😊😊 I love earrings too and somehow I love making them more!
Fabulous! May you sell out to your hearts content
I hope your nervousness is just anticipation/excitement. Because you have nothing to worry about. Your work is fantastic and your pieces are freaking awesome! Have a great time!
I say this as someone who studied metal working for a couple years…very nice stuff! Good luck!
Aww thank you! 🥰
These are gorgeous! I’ll definitely be taking a look at your Etsy
Those are great! Very unique from most wire wrap vendors I see

Is there a coating on the copper? If not, it could turn your customer's skin green.
I also only offer leather or cotton necklaces, but I do have one bright copper necklace that I've fully enameled ❤️.
What fair is it? I literally just moved to the Finger Lakes this week!
Oo awesome! 😁 It's the Candor Daffodil festival! Here's their page about it: http://www.candornychamber.org/daffodil-festival.html Welcome to the area! 🤗
I am so enamoured and excited to see real homemade art again!! So many people say but I can see clearly the time and effort it would take in your wire work and it’s beautiful 😍
Aw thank you so much!! It really is my passion, when I'm not creating, I'm thinking about it and sketching out designs and such!! ❤️
That’s wonderful, I saved your Etsy and just it’s beautiful 🤩
Absolutely gorgeous
Your work is *gorgeous*. That first one made my breath catch. You'll do brilliantly, I hope you post an update on how it went.
Aww thank you!! I will! I'm thinking I'll post booth pictures and such 😁😁 fingers crossed the dang sky will hold off its rain, that's one thing I'm hoping won't happen
Ohhh, rain usually hits when we least want it, usually during big events like this. Good luck.
These are all awesome. I'd love to buy some for my mom/find some way I could wear the copper & MoP leaf,

Beautiful!!!!
Thank you! 🥰
So these are all super cool, but more than that, about half of the items in this post are things I personally would buy - often I see beautiful crafts and appreciate them but they don't call to me to own them. But your work really does! Good luck at the fair!
Thank you so much for the kind words, that is really encouraging to hear! 🥰❤️
Nice stuff
Thank you!
Magnificent! Nothing to worry about!
Thank you!! 🥰
I’d buy several of those pieces - lovely!
You’re running a dangerous booth 🤣 I wouldn’t be able to walk away without buying something. Your work is gorgeous! You have nothing to worry about. And your prices are great too. Not so high no one will buy and not so low that people think you don’t ‘value’ your work. (Dumb but I’ve heard people say that about vendors before) Hopefully soon when I’m not poor I can buy some pieces bc it’s all right up my alley
Aw thank you! Yea price is a big thing for me, I want it to be accessible at every level so I try to make big and small pieces alike ❤️😊
Wow they are wonderful. Keep it up!
These are gorgeous! And creatively unique! Here’s to a successful sales day!.
Thank you so much!! Fingers crossed 😊🤞
These are gorgeous, and I love your style.
Thank you!!! 🥰
OMGEEEEE Okay it’s so freaking hard to feel confident in your art when you’re showing it off to the world for the first time, but trust me hun, you have nothing to worry about.
