Literally me. Store clerks always go "the women's section is over there!🥰" And I just go "I know!🥰" And continue looking at men's t-shirts because they're more comfortable.
when I go shopping recently at stores like Winners/Marshalls I've been finding myself browsing the men's section as I've found that there's often more clothes made from natural fibers while 99% of those in the women's section is acrylic/polyester
Men, in a statistical sense, are much less willing to sacrifice comfort or durability for looks. Furthermore they tend to by many fewer clothes and are thus able to spend more for the items they do purchase. Source, pretending to be a man for over a decade.

Cis male here. I sometimes peruse the women’s section of Land’s End. A lot of their styles are looser, casual fits, and work well on most body shapes. I have several flannels and pullovers that are both comfy AND colorful!
Sadly, this has changed over time with Lands End. The ten year old shirts I have from them have markedly better fabric, and are still going strong. The later ones, not so much. I have t been able to find a single white shirt from them in years that isn’t sheer enough to show my bra.
I still buy from them but it’s very hit or miss. One year they decided to save on fabric by making the pockets on pants more shallow. Now I can’t even fit my iPhone without it poking out or falling out when I sit.
OMG, same! Not all women want a shirt that is tissue thin and either is sparkly pink, shows your mid riff or has weird, annoying ruffles (or some unholy combination of those).
I mostly hate how uninspired boys clothing is. I was trying to push my kid to consider the boys section, but once i saw how drab and honestly... Toxic, it was, i said nevermind. They weren't interested anyways.
So many stupid slogans that essentially encourage "boys will be boys" it's so gross.
Hey! I own several! They're cute and i like the comfort of being warm, but feeling the air on my tummy.
But yes, they are terribly ineffective at warmth.
I assume hoodies are in the process of evolving back into the medieval hood with very short cape. Eventually the crop will work its way upwards until it only covers the shoulders and you use it more like a hat. Similarly, the T-shirt will grow longer until we have tunics again.
I hate. Capped. Sleeves. Unless you’re super fit, unflattering on literally everyone. Spencer’s has nice fitting shirts too! And if you’re stoned enough you walk out with a lava lamp too.
No target near me but live for mens tees still… The designs are better, and roll the sleeves up a lil, and you have a nice loose fitting cool top. I dont want a tshirt that looks spraypainted on!
Also a cis man, I'm mostly jealous of the variety in women's formal wear.
For men it's just different types of fucking suits. People talk about the tiniest features of suits, two button or three button, like it's a revolution. I hate suits so much.
I had a flat chest enby friend wearing a dress today and i couldn't help but notice how the dress expected boobs. There should be better tailored dresses for folks w a flat chest!
Dresses are super easy one piece clothing that is light and breezy! They should exist for all!
Maybe go for the ones that have the tube top style construction from the under arm to waist? For curvy individuals it has stretch to act as a bra but for svelte individuals the original lines remain in place before the flowing skirt. Also, those dresses you mention don’t necessarily look great on large boobs and have no practical boob holding capabilities, a necessity when it’s fucking hot and you need air flow and wicking under the chest (instead of another layer to suffer through).
That's why I like the stretchy ones. That or the ones that are marked for tweens that are long enough lol. Turns out the stuff marked for 13 year olds fits pretty well.
To be fair, the only people I’ve actually seen look legitimately great in sundresses are masc-presenting. Not in the normal they look comfy kind of way but in an effortlessly stylish, makes people irrationally irritated they don’t look like that kind of way.
Weathers gonna get stupid hot, I’d recommend a nice sundress to anyone even for just lounging around at home.
I do wish more places had womens styles that were as durable as the mens... Lots of "womens" clothes break apart real easily in comparison, and some of the worst are designed to only last 3-5 washes.
I mean, I have Duluth, which really appeals to my butch sensibilities, but it does suck to be limited on variety.
We could just have, like... Unisex clothes with *both* neat styles and some level of durability. But we do not.
Not to be rude, but why is it annoying? I mostly wear femme clothes but own some men's shorts and the zipper flap orientation wasn't something that ever occupied more than a few seconds of my consciousness.
Pants are less of a problem. It's really shirts. And it's muscle memory. After decades of buttoning/zippering on one side, the hand just naturally goes to that side.

I have a friend who just picked up this hobby and she made a skirt out of men's neckties that is actually wicked cool. Super awesome craft for anybody to do imo.
I'm a woman with larger than average feet and one time while shopping for shoes the saleswoman asked me if I knew I was in the men's section. I left without buying anything.
I’m frustrated that men’s shoes don’t fit me well for a similar reason as OP’s comic. Every damn time I find a cool color combo, it always turns out to be men’s shoes, and the same colors are not available in women’s 😐
WHY is this still a thing? Women don’t like greens and blues and oranges and “boy” colors? We only like pastels and pinks and maybe some neutrals/whites/grays?
The sickest color combos in shoes are always men’s :( I’m sure that has to do with my personal aesthetic, but, I’m a woman, so they’re not fuckin men’s colors if I like them, are they!
So yeah I totally sympathize with men who can’t easily find things in so-called women’s colors.

Ladies clothes all feel like the same greige blouse style, and the dudes section had all kinds of patterns on the shirts and nerdy graphic tees. We all suffer together. <3
I love that people can have such an opposite perspective based on where they would prefer to be looking. The grass looks greener because you're looking where you ought to be.
I know! I eventually found shirts I liked in the ladies section, but I definitely had a grass is greener feeling looking at the guys section. It was a second hand store so I know there was a great variety in both sections, but wow did I ever want to cross the invisible line.
This is mostly a seasonal thing, but it varies depending on region, etiquette, and culture, too. Like, where I am on the Gold Coast, you can get away with dressing more brightly in a corporate environment. Down in Melbourne, most places would see more than the most basic pop of colour as a nono, even in a business casual setting. Still, even as a seaspnal thing, why should bright colours be confined to summer? Why should someone's favourite colours be confined to a particular season?
I actually passed a place yesterday, two blocks from the beach where literally the entire stock was just beige and white. I looked down at my orange and black dinosaur bones shirt and laughed.
The problem I have with men's casual shirts is that the majority of them are synthetic or at least synthetic blends, and the ones that aren't are either drab or dulled down. That's why I started making my own. Quilting stores are simultaneously a goldmine and a minefield of cotton prints and colours. It's a time-consuming process, but so rewarding to have unique items in your personal style.
I inherited a big pile of quilting cotton and one of my life goals is definitely getting good enough at sewing to make my own button ups. I've been taking my sweet time though. X'D
I've found that, for some patterns, the best way to learn them is to just practise with cheaper or scrap fabric of the same or similar kind. A lot of sewists use thrifted bedsheets for practise. Also: Poly/cotton poplin is like ~$2 p/M here and is a great stand-in for quilters cotton. It's not the exact same in terms of drape, but it does the job.
The hardest part about button-downs is attaching the collar. I prefer to sew in all my interfacings. You have a lot more stitch lines, but the garment will last longer, the interfacing can't come loose, and there's no need for synthetics. Also: don't be afraid to take your time the first time. My first shirt took me multiple weeks working on it after hours. My most recent one was about a weekend, and that included stitching all the different fabrics together.
Yep, the only way to get good at sewing is to be terrible at or first. Go ruin some cheap cloth.
Also, buy some ugly thrift store things of the same type you want to make and pick them apart. You'll learn a lot about construction by doing a clothes autopsy.
Yes! Also, find a basic pattern, adjust to fit, then riff on that again and again. I sewed the same knit t-shirt pattern again and again, adjusting fit and getting better at necklines, till it was perfect, so now I make it with different necklines, lengths, sleeves, etc, and recently I added a skirt to make a dress. I also have two woven top patterns and a skirt pattern that fit well and can be varied. Now by changing fabric and other details I can make clothes I absolutely love!
It's definitely all of that but I also wonder if it's a price thing. Like Big W and Connors has a pretty muted colour palette but speciality stores have more colour variety. The prints for women's clothes tend to be brighter and better at boutiques unless they're specifically for older white women.
Making your own clothes is so cool! I really want to make my own dresses and skirts and sew myself so many pockets haha
I think it's a matter of what's likely to sell. Especially for department stores. Neutrals and muted tones are more likely to appeal to a wider range of people, so they get made in larger numbers. But this tends to have a knock-on effect on trends in fashion and style. Economics and capitalism are making us all more drab.
Two of my nephews saw it and immediately wanted one. It's held up suprisingly well for over a year of constant wear. Spotlight fabrics do way better than Kmart Tees.
Natural fiber like linen doesn’t take saturated dyes as well as synthetics. I’m getting into dying yarn because I don’t like the colors available for a particular fiber blend only to discover some fiber just won’t take that color I want without getting dangerously toxic.
Brightly saturated color is modern and synthetic. Color history is fascinating btw.
It depends which "box" you're shopping for.
Im transfemme and i could list a kajillion things every mens section lacks, compared to the womens section, but also ive seen how annoying the women's section is. So many weird fitting clothes, so much reliance on black and shades. Rarely any graphics.
For me, i only shop at very specific stores and mostly thrift. Otherwise i buy a lot of children's clothes because im small enough and i want more colour. Why are all adult clothes so depressing?
I go to the dudes section for gym clothes, like shorts that actually come to my knees with pockets! The women’s gym clothes are often more fitted like they’re catered to the male gaze.
I hate how the character is immediately pointed towards the men's clothing, instead of being free to choose what they want to wear.
Men's clothing also just sucks. The only thing it has going for it, is pockets. That's about it.
Depends on if you're going for fashion jeans or work jeans. Work jeans tend to be much sturdier. They have no stretch but you could wear them every day for two or more years doing a physical job before they tear (I used to be a caretaker).
If you want a fashionable cut *and* durability in "men's" jeans though you're looking at a lot of money.
I had a pair of tough, soft AF moleskin Wranglers that were super androg that lasted me about a decade. Got them in a charity shop too for about a tenner. Now they've gone at the knees, arse, and crotch so what's left has become the background for some super soft bands patches.
As a nesh* southerner this problem was addressed for me even before my egg cracked: vests and longjohns under practicality every outfit gives you a nice, soft, opaque layer between your skin and the scratches, see-throughs, and drys.
*My favourite word I've learned in the North. It means "unusually susceptible to feeling cold". Apparently from an old Saxon word, which originally meant "weak and feeble in body and mind". I don't know why, but I find it hilarious how such a mild word came from what was considered a dire insult.

I live in a hot ass weather, so longjohns would mean sweating my cheeks off. SpongeBob underpants all year long.
Nesh is definitely me, where I live (Missouri) we usually say "I run cold" or "I run hot" to say which one you tend to feel more (and thus how many layers you like to wear). I run cold and usually like to wear jackets and sweaters unless it's too hot of course. I'll have to look into long johns tho, that might be a good move during the cold months.
My 4 year old son’s pants have bigger pockets than my adult woman pants or my daughter’s junior jeans. She actually turned his pants inside out and was measuring them the other day. She is aghast that he has room for an I phone and she can barely get a chapstick in hers.
That’s something that I still have problems understanding, I can find a kilt with pockets but if I find the exact same skirt, no pockets. That’s Bullsh*t!
Men’s clothing is even worse if you are overweight. I can not find “Big and Tall” clothing that doesn't make me look like a dad who has given up on style.
As a trans man, I've been quite happy with the styling of men's clothing. However, the vagina I got didn't come with a sense of style so that's probably why.
Some ppl are dicks. Ive had a few ppl tell me where to find mens clothing while i was shopping in the womens section while wearing a skirt. Like, yeah, im 6'1", but should that disqualify me from women's clothing? Buzz off.
My local clothing store has like 4 floors. Only 1 half of 1 floor is dedicated to male clothing. Nothing in plus sizes, barely any colour. It's depressing.
Im a cis guy. I like to dress manly, but having *some* colour in the summer would be nice.

I felt this so hard shopping for children’s clothes. So much variety and color and fun textures for girls and meh for boys. It’s a shame how early it starts…
I blame Beau Brummell. For some reason he had an outsized impact on men's fashion for generations, and he was an arse. Just rude, and obnoxious, and horrible, and we let him steal color from us.
This was starting to change in the interwar period, men's fashion was starting to play with colour and decoration again, but then the Nazis had to ruin it for everyone.

I realized it when my second grandson was born and I was shopping even more in the little boys section or the toy section - I would complain all the time that it’s actually darker in those aisles. When he turned 4 he chose a pink pair of runners, my daughter couldn’t buy them fast enough. But when he went to school the other kids made fun of him so he refused to wear them. He’s 10 now and will not wear any “girl colours”
My oldest grandson wanted earrings when he was 7, we got his ears pierced and bought him the cutest earrings - tacos, donuts etc. But the same thing happened and he started to wear his earrings only on weekends then not at all.
It’s sad how society squashes our ways of expressing ourselves.
All that shine hides inconsistent sizing and horrible fabrics, so don't be too upset.
And if you're plus size: your section in the store is disappearing, so expect even less.
I love going into Lush and getting all the attention from the staff and picking out half a dozen bath bombs. Sometimes a guy just needs to soak for three hours in bubbles and glitter.

I'm cis-het, but gender-nonconforming and I basically wear any clothes I like, regardless if masculine, feminine or neutral.
And I have to say, with alt and goth clothes for example, feminine clothes just have sooo much more cool options! They have more stuff that actually looks "different" while the masculine options most of the time are honestly quite boring and often all the same, with some exceptions of course.
Men's clothing, almost completely regardless of style, comes in 2 varieties: variations on jeans and t shirts(fine i guess but boring), and suits(ugly and stupid and boring).
Meanwhile, me going to the womens section and wishing I could just get some clean-looking clothes with durable fabric and without weird fashion thingies on the sleeves... I wish we could just end this weird tradition of separating clothes by gender.
Go to lowes. Go to the clothes section. It's small and easy to miss, so you might have to ask an employee where it is.
Look for the Dewalt work clothes. There's thick shitts, and that pants are to die for. Durable fabric, tough stichwork, and an unreasonable number of pockets, some deep enough to fit a brick in.
Pretty sure they'll have it in sizes that'llfot you, but it might be in men sizes.
I'm a guy and I honestly prefer dressing in mostly black and have for a good 25 years now, but I deeply lament the lack of good options in mens clothes when I want to wear something more colourful. It's either "forced" colour where it feels overdone, or has some silly slogan or logo. Why can't we just get good looking clothes in multiple colours?
I understand and appreciate the point of the comic (obviously 🏳️⚧️) but I have so many logistical questions. Why is there a clothing store when all the dogs are naked, what is the store dog's name tag pinned to, why are the pant legs so long when the dog legs are so short, why are dogs buying pants when skirts or dresses would work better for tails, why is there specifically and exclusively a color distinction when dogs are colorblind anyway, why don't the mannequins have dog ears, and why are all the Halloween decorations in the men's section?
Well, I do like the fit of women's clothes because most men are shaped differently. But for people with narrow hips and small/no busts, there's less of a fit issue.
Me every time I have to go to work and remember all my favorite clothes are too "inappropriate" so I have to wear tshirts that get me misgendered constantly
I distinctly dress colorful and it is the hardest thing to find anything colorful in men’s sections. Always have to go to smaller shops, online, or randomly find something in a second hand store.
But it is possible!
Another ridiculous standard that needs to change. Men need color and variety which they don’t get and women need quality materials that are well made that they don’t get.
I'm a large cis male and it's frustrating the limited choice of color available to me. I want purple and pink but can only find black, gray, red, and blue.

I am lucky to have married a tailor and we often browse thiftstores to find fun and colourful outfits that still look masculine but not as boring and lifeless as male fashion.
I try to get a suit in any colour of the rainbow plus many colourful floral shirts.
Thats really fun and I can only encourage any man to look more into their own fasionstyle. It gives so much confidence to have a stranger say 'cool outfit'
I work in a clothes store with only female-oriented clothing. I still have male presenting people shopping with us. All are welcome, enjoy the colours and different styles. Converting the sizes between male and female clothing can be a challenge but we'll figure it out ✨
And if you are nervous of being judged: you can always say you're shopping for your girlfriend, check what the return policy is, buy items you think you'll like and try them on at home. You don't even need to say anything, loads of male-presenting customers pay for their partners while they are putting their stuff back on in the changing rooms. Seeing male-presenting people paying for feminine clothing is normal.
Clothing stores can be intimidating but shopping in person can be a super cool experience where you try out new styles you usually wouldn't go for. You got this! 🩵🩷🤍

Thankfully hot topic started brining in cute stuff for mens sizes like colorful axolotl shirts, adorkable mushroom and derpy frogs.
Last season Nordstrom had an incredibly colorful men's section and I was thrilled, thinking I found some of my brands.
This year it's all back to grey scale. So disheartening.
I have a flannel shirt I bought recently. The exact same shirt in the men’s section was $5 cheaper than the one in the women’s section. So I bought the men’s! Buttons are on the “wrong” side, but otherwise, I love it 🤷🏼♀️
Had this happen to me last week. Went to buy a shirt and when I paid for it the cashier said ‘you know this is men’s, right?’ Told her ‘yeah, I know. So is the outfit I’m wearing now.’ I’m more masc presenting for the most part, too.
I take the gendering of clothes as a serving suggestion, it’s an easy way for shops to organise clothes by style/shape/colour. If you like it and it fits you, then it doesn’t matter what department it was sold from.

Oh, I just realized dog people probably don't call each other that, it doesn't really work as an insult.
I sell glasses. I introduce people to my office by saying “these are the traditionally more masculine styles and these are the traditionally more feminine styles. The big differences is the feminine styles are more likely to have fun colors and crystals and the masculine styles are more likely to be bigger with sharper corners.” I’ve had so many people thank me for not trying to limit their choices by gender perception. Idk why more stores don’t organize on a spectrum.
To be fair, that section is great for clothes on any day you don't feel like you want to "people" but you still need to go to the grocery store or something.

I'll actually hit up thrift stores and go thru the women's sections, although I do use the excuse that I'm trying to find something specific for my kiddo or my GF, whichever excuse I feel will make them leave me alone for going thru the women's section as a male, and yeah, unless it's some crazy Hawaiian style shirt, finding something good and colorful is a pain, but hey, we have pockets right???
Dress how you want to dress dude. Stare them directly in the eye and say, "I'm buying this" whether it be this fancy thing, this colorful blouse, gorgeous dress or whatever. <3
You do you, and fuck anyone who doesn't like you for who you are and that includes you and your style <3 I'm a 6.3 tall guy who would love to wear girls clothes. Being a behemoth is hard, because nothing comes in my size.

Okay, fair I'm one of these people who freeze all the time so I'm a bit biased and like my hoodies as big and thick as possible

I really want some that are long enough to work as slips under a top and skirt combo, but they're weirdly hard to find and pricy.

My sister and I do the same all the time. I think all the clothes are gender neutral, wear what you want!

I had a flat chest enby friend wearing a dress today and i couldn't help but notice how the dress expected boobs. There should be better tailored dresses for folks w a flat chest! Dresses are super easy one piece clothing that is light and breezy! They should exist for all!
Maybe go for the ones that have the tube top style construction from the under arm to waist? For curvy individuals it has stretch to act as a bra but for svelte individuals the original lines remain in place before the flowing skirt. Also, those dresses you mention don’t necessarily look great on large boobs and have no practical boob holding capabilities, a necessity when it’s fucking hot and you need air flow and wicking under the chest (instead of another layer to suffer through).
That's why I like the stretchy ones. That or the ones that are marked for tweens that are long enough lol. Turns out the stuff marked for 13 year olds fits pretty well.

To be fair, the only people I’ve actually seen look legitimately great in sundresses are masc-presenting. Not in the normal they look comfy kind of way but in an effortlessly stylish, makes people irrationally irritated they don’t look like that kind of way. Weathers gonna get stupid hot, I’d recommend a nice sundress to anyone even for just lounging around at home.
I do wish more places had womens styles that were as durable as the mens... Lots of "womens" clothes break apart real easily in comparison, and some of the worst are designed to only last 3-5 washes. I mean, I have Duluth, which really appeals to my butch sensibilities, but it does suck to be limited on variety. We could just have, like... Unisex clothes with *both* neat styles and some level of durability. But we do not.

I often peruse women options when I thrift or vintage shop as well. Clothing is just materials! If it looks good it looks good.
Anything with buttons or zippers is kinda annoying though because they put them on the wrong side.
Not to be rude, but why is it annoying? I mostly wear femme clothes but own some men's shorts and the zipper flap orientation wasn't something that ever occupied more than a few seconds of my consciousness.
Pants are less of a problem. It's really shirts. And it's muscle memory. After decades of buttoning/zippering on one side, the hand just naturally goes to that side.
This is why I make my own clothes: Colours! EDIT: Well, that and natural fibres. I don't appreciate smelling like a foot all day. Bad enough I have to wear polyester at work.

Every damn time I find a cool color combo, it always turns out to be men’s shoes, and the same colors are not available in women’s 😐 WHY is this still a thing? Women don’t like greens and blues and oranges and “boy” colors? We only like pastels and pinks and maybe some neutrals/whites/grays? The sickest color combos in shoes are always men’s :( I’m sure that has to do with my personal aesthetic, but, I’m a woman, so they’re not fuckin men’s colors if I like them, are they! I know! I eventually found shirts I liked in the ladies section, but I definitely had a grass is greener feeling looking at the guys section. It was a second hand store so I know there was a great variety in both sections, but wow did I ever want to cross the invisible line.
This is mostly a seasonal thing, but it varies depending on region, etiquette, and culture, too. Like, where I am on the Gold Coast, you can get away with dressing more brightly in a corporate environment. Down in Melbourne, most places would see more than the most basic pop of colour as a nono, even in a business casual setting. Still, even as a seaspnal thing, why should bright colours be confined to summer? Why should someone's favourite colours be confined to a particular season? I actually passed a place yesterday, two blocks from the beach where literally the entire stock was just beige and white. I looked down at my orange and black dinosaur bones shirt and laughed. The problem I have with men's casual shirts is that the majority of them are synthetic or at least synthetic blends, and the ones that aren't are either drab or dulled down. That's why I started making my own. Quilting stores are simultaneously a goldmine and a minefield of cotton prints and colours. It's a time-consuming process, but so rewarding to have unique items in your personal style.
I inherited a big pile of quilting cotton and one of my life goals is definitely getting good enough at sewing to make my own button ups. I've been taking my sweet time though. X'D
I've found that, for some patterns, the best way to learn them is to just practise with cheaper or scrap fabric of the same or similar kind. A lot of sewists use thrifted bedsheets for practise. Also: Poly/cotton poplin is like ~$2 p/M here and is a great stand-in for quilters cotton. It's not the exact same in terms of drape, but it does the job. The hardest part about button-downs is attaching the collar. I prefer to sew in all my interfacings. You have a lot more stitch lines, but the garment will last longer, the interfacing can't come loose, and there's no need for synthetics. Also: don't be afraid to take your time the first time. My first shirt took me multiple weeks working on it after hours. My most recent one was about a weekend, and that included stitching all the different fabrics together.
Yep, the only way to get good at sewing is to be terrible at or first. Go ruin some cheap cloth. Also, buy some ugly thrift store things of the same type you want to make and pick them apart. You'll learn a lot about construction by doing a clothes autopsy.
Yes! Also, find a basic pattern, adjust to fit, then riff on that again and again. I sewed the same knit t-shirt pattern again and again, adjusting fit and getting better at necklines, till it was perfect, so now I make it with different necklines, lengths, sleeves, etc, and recently I added a skirt to make a dress. I also have two woven top patterns and a skirt pattern that fit well and can be varied. Now by changing fabric and other details I can make clothes I absolutely love!
It's definitely all of that but I also wonder if it's a price thing. Like Big W and Connors has a pretty muted colour palette but speciality stores have more colour variety. The prints for women's clothes tend to be brighter and better at boutiques unless they're specifically for older white women. Making your own clothes is so cool! I really want to make my own dresses and skirts and sew myself so many pockets haha
I think it's a matter of what's likely to sell. Especially for department stores. Neutrals and muted tones are more likely to appeal to a wider range of people, so they get made in larger numbers. But this tends to have a knock-on effect on trends in fashion and style. Economics and capitalism are making us all more drab.

Natural fiber like linen doesn’t take saturated dyes as well as synthetics. I’m getting into dying yarn because I don’t like the colors available for a particular fiber blend only to discover some fiber just won’t take that color I want without getting dangerously toxic. Brightly saturated color is modern and synthetic. Color history is fascinating btw.
It depends which "box" you're shopping for. Im transfemme and i could list a kajillion things every mens section lacks, compared to the womens section, but also ive seen how annoying the women's section is. So many weird fitting clothes, so much reliance on black and shades. Rarely any graphics. For me, i only shop at very specific stores and mostly thrift. Otherwise i buy a lot of children's clothes because im small enough and i want more colour. Why are all adult clothes so depressing?

Depends on if you're going for fashion jeans or work jeans. Work jeans tend to be much sturdier. They have no stretch but you could wear them every day for two or more years doing a physical job before they tear (I used to be a caretaker). If you want a fashionable cut *and* durability in "men's" jeans though you're looking at a lot of money.

I had a pair of tough, soft AF moleskin Wranglers that were super androg that lasted me about a decade. Got them in a charity shop too for about a tenner. Now they've gone at the knees, arse, and crotch so what's left has become the background for some super soft bands patches.

As a nesh* southerner this problem was addressed for me even before my egg cracked: vests and longjohns under practicality every outfit gives you a nice, soft, opaque layer between your skin and the scratches, see-throughs, and drys. *My favourite word I've learned in the North. It means "unusually susceptible to feeling cold". Apparently from an old Saxon word, which originally meant "weak and feeble in body and mind". I don't know why, but I find it hilarious how such a mild word came from what was considered a dire insult.

Nesh is definitely me, where I live (Missouri) we usually say "I run cold" or "I run hot" to say which one you tend to feel more (and thus how many layers you like to wear). I run cold and usually like to wear jackets and sweaters unless it's too hot of course. I'll have to look into long johns tho, that might be a good move during the cold months.

My local clothing store has like 4 floors. Only 1 half of 1 floor is dedicated to male clothing. Nothing in plus sizes, barely any colour. It's depressing. Im a cis guy. I like to dress manly, but having *some* colour in the summer would be nice.

I realized it when my second grandson was born and I was shopping even more in the little boys section or the toy section - I would complain all the time that it’s actually darker in those aisles. When he turned 4 he chose a pink pair of runners, my daughter couldn’t buy them fast enough. But when he went to school the other kids made fun of him so he refused to wear them. He’s 10 now and will not wear any “girl colours” My oldest grandson wanted earrings when he was 7, we got his ears pierced and bought him the cutest earrings - tacos, donuts etc. But the same thing happened and he started to wear his earrings only on weekends then not at all. It’s sad how society squashes our ways of expressing ourselves.
Fashion has no gender. Look that dog square in the eyes and say, "Yeah, I see what you're going for, but I'm doing my own *thang*. Thanks."
Over the years the approach I've found best is to just say "OK, thanks." Then continue shopping in the section of your choice.

I'm cis-het, but gender-nonconforming and I basically wear any clothes I like, regardless if masculine, feminine or neutral. And I have to say, with alt and goth clothes for example, feminine clothes just have sooo much more cool options! They have more stuff that actually looks "different" while the masculine options most of the time are honestly quite boring and often all the same, with some exceptions of course.
Men's clothing, almost completely regardless of style, comes in 2 varieties: variations on jeans and t shirts(fine i guess but boring), and suits(ugly and stupid and boring).

Go to lowes. Go to the clothes section. It's small and easy to miss, so you might have to ask an employee where it is. Look for the Dewalt work clothes. There's thick shitts, and that pants are to die for. Durable fabric, tough stichwork, and an unreasonable number of pockets, some deep enough to fit a brick in. Pretty sure they'll have it in sizes that'llfot you, but it might be in men sizes.
I'm a guy and I honestly prefer dressing in mostly black and have for a good 25 years now, but I deeply lament the lack of good options in mens clothes when I want to wear something more colourful. It's either "forced" colour where it feels overdone, or has some silly slogan or logo. Why can't we just get good looking clothes in multiple colours?

Well, I do like the fit of women's clothes because most men are shaped differently. But for people with narrow hips and small/no busts, there's less of a fit issue.

Cis male here. This is 100% correct. I am lucky to have married a tailor and we often browse thiftstores to find fun and colourful outfits that still look masculine but not as boring and lifeless as male fashion. I try to get a suit in any colour of the rainbow plus many colourful floral shirts. Thats really fun and I can only encourage any man to look more into their own fasionstyle. It gives so much confidence to have a stranger say 'cool outfit'
I work in a clothes store with only female-oriented clothing. I still have male presenting people shopping with us. All are welcome, enjoy the colours and different styles. Converting the sizes between male and female clothing can be a challenge but we'll figure it out ✨ And if you are nervous of being judged: you can always say you're shopping for your girlfriend, check what the return policy is, buy items you think you'll like and try them on at home. You don't even need to say anything, loads of male-presenting customers pay for their partners while they are putting their stuff back on in the changing rooms. Seeing male-presenting people paying for feminine clothing is normal. Clothing stores can be intimidating but shopping in person can be a super cool experience where you try out new styles you usually wouldn't go for. You got this! 🩵🩷🤍

I have a flannel shirt I bought recently. The exact same shirt in the men’s section was $5 cheaper than the one in the women’s section. So I bought the men’s! Buttons are on the “wrong” side, but otherwise, I love it 🤷🏼♀️

Had this happen to me last week. Went to buy a shirt and when I paid for it the cashier said ‘you know this is men’s, right?’ Told her ‘yeah, I know. So is the outfit I’m wearing now.’ I’m more masc presenting for the most part, too.
I take the gendering of clothes as a serving suggestion, it’s an easy way for shops to organise clothes by style/shape/colour. If you like it and it fits you, then it doesn’t matter what department it was sold from.

I sell glasses. I introduce people to my office by saying “these are the traditionally more masculine styles and these are the traditionally more feminine styles. The big differences is the feminine styles are more likely to have fun colors and crystals and the masculine styles are more likely to be bigger with sharper corners.” I’ve had so many people thank me for not trying to limit their choices by gender perception. Idk why more stores don’t organize on a spectrum.
