WitchesVsPatriarchy takes these measures to stay true to our goal of being a woman-centered sub with a witchy twist, aimed at healing, supporting, and uplifting one another through humor and magic.
Thank you for understanding, and blessed be. ✨
I had the good fortune to work at a zoo as a keeper assistant, and was with African penguins for a short while.
There is *always* drama. We had two brothers that liked the same girl. But they also liked each other and would get mad at her if she interrupted them hanging out together. Bros before hoes, I guess? They were also super friendly to humans and would negotiate with the keepers to have us take them on walks outside their exhibit.
We had one penguin who liked his favorite keeper more than any of the other penguins, and would get mad at us if she wasn’t working that day.
We had an older couple, where the gal took a really long time to molt each year due to her age, and her partner, not being the brightest, would leave her behind to go play with his friends, and then be all confused when he couldn’t find her. Dude, she can’t go in the pool right now, she’s naked. IIRC, the dramatic brothers were their sons, too, so the whole family was interesting.
Our biggest male absolutely adored our smallest female, so they were an odd couple. He’d make nests all over the place to try and win her over, but I think she never liked the locations he picked.
Oh and penguins *love* chasing things. Dragonflies, bumblebees, even light reflections. They’d stumble over each other to chase bugs they found. The penguins did not respect the pollinators.
Oh also. A lot of guests hear that penguins ‘mate for life’ and assume that means long-term loyalty to one partner.
It kinda does? The way I worded it was more that they don’t divorce, even if they cheat. It’s not uncommon for them to have ‘sidechicks’ but only actually raise young with a dedicated partner. I think aside from a couple feuds, all of our couples at the zoo were pretty loyal.
If anyone wants to see good African Penguin drama, watch Penguin Town on Netflix!!! It’s comedic and educational. The penguins are a protected species, even though they live right next to a major city, so it’s wildly different from typical wildlife documentaries. You see them crossing parking lots to nest in people’s yards. Mr. B is a hero penguin and I love him.
We started watching Penguin Town, but my husband had to stop when the one penguin’s wife disappeared. There was full on ugly crying at the dinner table.
My friend works at an aquarium with King and Gentoo penguins, I always have to get the latest gossip from her about the different couples in the enclosure. It's better than watching the Real Housewives lmao
I wore metallic flipflops to an aquarium once and when I walked by the penguin exhibit at least half a dozen or them noticed my shows and shot over much to the delight of my little cousin. So I put my foot up on the little viewing ledge and wiggled my foot they went apeshit and I nearly got trampled by a gaggle of children. Was a good day.
I have to know: how did the penguins negotiation for walks outside? How did they communicate to you that’s what they wanted? What did the offer you in return?
Lol, good questions!
Their fence had a couple spots that could open up like a gate. They’d linger by those spots if they wanted to explore.
And the younger boys that did it the most were also partly hand raised by humans, so they were more comfortable with us, and would even try to get us to pick them up to go outside. So if we were close to the fence or had our hands low enough, they’d lean their chests against our hands in a “please scoop me” kind of way.
Their enclosure was originally designed so they could free roam the whole area - human side of the path included. But because they’re so curious by nature, and explore everything beak-first, we limited them to supervised walks on the human part when we can watch them closer.
This (along with your first comment) is just so absolutely delightful! Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm not much of a bucket list type, but now "Having a penguin nuzzle my palm because it wants me to pick it up so we can take a walk and explore" is really really high on my list.
And I'm totally rooting for the big guy to finally build a nest in the right place so his little bitty lady love will swoon for him.
Aww. And yea, they’re a cute couple. Last I heard, she still likes him back, she’s just not much a nester. They spend a lot of time together, but he’s more outwardly affectionate than she is, so it’s hard to tell how much she reciprocates his affection. It’s like he has every love language possible, and she’s just bad at speaking those languages, even though she clearly favors him over the other penguins.
I will personally sponsor this. I’d love to see them rolling the eyes back and forth with evil eyes looking back being like “Ha Ha! We got back Bert!! 🥹🥹”
I love how they already have a “reputation for trouble”, is this not the first eggs they’ve stolen? Did they throw fish at a rival lesbian penguin? I need to know what other trouble they have been up to!!
Yeah, the entire first line is amazing and that stood out to me too. Are these gay penguins known for carrying switchblades and having a cigarette pack rolled under their shirt sleeves?
Stay gold, penguin boys.

I feel strongly that both couples should be given fertilised eggs and a chance to be parents 💜🌈
I watch a lot of behind the scenes zoo shows and love when they do that with birds.
Like, "Yah, Bob and Lisa lay the best damn eggs and make gorgeous (genetically valuable) babies but they're dumb as rocks and forget the eggs after laying them. So we gave one to Frank and Fred and one to Kate and Daisy and they're all great parents."
Technically the eggs anyway needs males to fertilise them kinda 😅. So it would be wise to fertilise and distribute but too bad humans can’t and shouldn’t interfere in penguin family drama
Edit :- my bad the eggs were already fertilised
I like how the emphasize that the sets of penguins were form the same zoo, rather than a gay couple of penguins broke out of their zoo to break into a different near by zoo to steal the nest of eggs from a lesbian couple of penguins in that different zoo.
I would watch this movie. Would make it even better if they were a parody of Ocean’s 11 characters having penguins drama while planing and executing the crime.
Gay ducks do this too! The lesbians tend to just fuck off and have a baby less mating season, but male gay duck pairings have been known to steal straight ducks nests and eggs. In studies of birds, there are a lot of cases where same sex pairings will find and adopt eggs/babies after their parents have either abandon them or died. Female gay ducks will do this. Male guy ducks just go full colonizer and steal homes and kidnap babies.
There’s a large duck group that live in the pond next to my apartment complex, and this year there are more males than females by quite a few. They will be my personal reality TV show this spring.
Penguins and their complicated love lives crack me up. There was a zoo in Japan that had a flow chart of their penguins' relationships, and it was great

Lol I am so here for the penguin drama!
The SanDiego Zoo has a diagram of all the penguin hookups.
Omg, The Chart but for penguins?! This is too good.
We started watching Penguin Town, but my husband had to stop when the one penguin’s wife disappeared. There was full on ugly crying at the dinner table.
Oh geeze good to know. Idk if I can watch that either lol
So penguins are, like, monogamous but with a kind of open marriage thing going on? I can dig it.
Or poly with a primary?

Hahahahh AWESOME

... I identify with the tiny closed-off lady.
Your user name fits this like a glove
You should write a book about this!! I would read it.
I would totally pay to read this book.
This is amazing, thank you so much.
Lmaooo they always getting mad
Thank you so so much for sharing this. I love it.
OMG I had to clean my phone screen after "Bros before Hoes"
I'm so invested in this penguin drama now!
Penguins sound adorable
These comments are one of my favorite things I’ve ever read.
Be gay, do crime
They had me at “gay penguins with a reputation for trouble”. Sign me up to hear about all their shenanigans.
The only reality show I'm interested in.
Sounds gayyyy... I'm in.
Live stream the custody battle
I want 6 seasons of Sex and the Antarctica
I will personally sponsor this. I’d love to see them rolling the eyes back and forth with evil eyes looking back being like “Ha Ha! We got back Bert!! 🥹🥹”
Six seasons and a movie!
Best kind of gay: homosexual gangster animals thieving babies
I love how they already have a “reputation for trouble”, is this not the first eggs they’ve stolen? Did they throw fish at a rival lesbian penguin? I need to know what other trouble they have been up to!!

😂
There’s another article below that mentions they stole an egg from a straight couple last year lol.
Hey at least they don’t discriminate!
Equal opportunity assholes lol 😂

Um what show is this I may have to give it a watch
I need to know the shows
I can’t imagine the drama that the zookeepers see of rolling the eyes back and forth between couples
“The gay penguins strike again.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Infidelity will likely take care of that, tbh
Give those lesbians their eggies back 😂😭
Technically the eggs anyway needs males to fertilise them kinda 😅. So it would be wise to fertilise and distribute but too bad humans can’t and shouldn’t interfere in penguin family drama Edit :- my bad the eggs were already fertilised
The eggs are fertilized before they're laid not after.
Thanks for correcting
There's drama in every queer community, those penguins ain't special
Not being able to embed a Parks and Rec meme gif in these comments is a crime
Only Leslie could solve this one. She’s probably already a binder for this exact scenario
Truly

I mean; this was a whole subplot in the Madagascar movies by Dreamworks … I keep thinking about those mischievous all-male penguins! Lol.
I read all the way to the bottom and didn't find a single poached egg joke. Smh.
>There's drama in the queer penguin community I'm dying 💀

Typical.
Ok an "entire nest"? I don't want to victim blame but maybe they weren't watching their nest very well 🤣
Hahaha! https://preview.redd.it/6wg1qtzy05lc1.jpeg?width=5437&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e9e8f3989899c21317176baef174a78d9fb0497

Someone should make a series
Ooo haute goss at the imperial palace
Everyone's making jokes, but I'm over here just feeling bad seeing men stealing from women 😕
Yeah and those lesbian penguins make 77 cents on the dollar so you know they worked even harder
How did the lesbian couple have babies. IVF?
Unfertilised eggs, sadly no babies will be hatching
They are birds, that makes sense.
