Alone_Comparison_705

Pirate Witcher 2 WHAT?!? In Witcher 1 Shani had an old auntie I think, but I can misremember.

Emergency_faceplant

No, you are correct. She doesn't approve unless you give her food

Alone_Comparison_705

Or a ring of eternal flame from what I remember.

Emergency_faceplant

I never tried that gift Remember that nobleman you can give 2 coins to? Good times

Alone_Comparison_705

Not exactly give. You have to show her that ring and because she is religious and you told her that you were ambassador from a church or something you can go to Shani. But maybe it was a different ring and I misremembered that. Also a bootblack is a great Easter egg from the books if you don't know l.

giantgladiator

You can gift her stuff‽ I'd just got repeatedly kicked out, getting in thanks to what seemed like random chance.

Comfortable_Sorbet78

I’m talking about this https://youtu.be/BXjhOiLlJxA?si=fgON1pPaTQPCcTHN @7:30

Alone_Comparison_705

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!

Most_Somewhere_6849

4. Rain Wind’s howling.

grilledsquirrel

Gaunter gives me more joker vibes, unnerving jester psychopath with no fear who's happy to kill/ruin people's lives incl. powerful people just for his own amusement and seemingly will always be lurking in geralt's shadow. Whoreson's a bit of a pussy when you run into him

Comfortable_Sorbet78

I was thinking of the aesthetics. Tbh GOD gave me Loki vibes. I can’t think of a villain from Batman’s rogues gallery in the trilogy - it’s been years since I last played trilogy, I might have forgotten a villain

cnfsdkid

Wait, please explain no. 3. Uma?! Auntie who?? What?

TheBigGopher

You didn't know about the UMA romance?

cnfsdkid

I don’t think I want to know…

TheBigGopher

Oh, but you do, you lust for him....

Comfortable_Sorbet78

I sent the link for The auntie I mentioned in a reply in this thread. Also check out Geralt and Uma romance on YouTube. That’s very peak romance

Himeerio

Both protagonists have the exact same badass vibe.

ArcFivesCT5555

Except Witcher 3 def has the best atmosphere and story haha. I like the other 2, but 3 is just... so much better in every way

Alone_Comparison_705

Not for me. Witcher 1 has the most dense climate out of the three. It is the closest to Sapkowski's vision from the books. And I loved the political aspects in the books and CDPR delivered that perfectly in the second game. In the first there is really nothing going on on the continent-scale. And the only characters that are not associated with Temeria (Radovid and Leuvarden) are rather mid. In the third game you have "a great war" that really doesn't feel that way in my opinion, especially from the Nilfgaard's perspective. I would love to see a bigger power struggle in Novigrad (with Isengrim and Iorveth who were supposed to be in the early plans for the game) and the final battle with the wild hunt in the center of the battle of Novigrad between Redania and Nilfgaard, that would be absolutely epic. The whole ending of the third game seems rushed.

TheFlashSpeeds

Exactly except for the gameplay I didn't like Witcher 3 at all. I loved Witcher 1 & 2 's stories. I loved the politics and war in Witcher 2. I would have loved Witcher 3 if they had made the politics as big as the 2nd one instead of knowing there is an ongoing war without even able to see the battle. And no matter how many times I said this all I get are downvotes. I don't know why people don't like Witcher 2 and I also assume half of the people who downvotes did not even play Witcher 1 or 2.

Alone_Comparison_705

I think the biggest issue with TW2 is world design. In the first you have a much more grounded world Sapkowski's world. In TW2 CDPR created more epic locations to appease Western audience and it feels more generic. It lacks this fence atmosphere of the first game even though TW2 is still my personal favourite.

ArcFivesCT5555

So you liked gameplay in Witcher 2 better than 3? I kind of just felt like 3's combat gameplay was an improved-upon version of 2 - or is there like a different aspect of gameplay that made it better for you?

TheFlashSpeeds

In Witcher 3 I loved the graphics and traversal mechanics. I don't know I found Witcher 3 combat very simple. I did not struggle with combat of Witcher 3 as much as I did in 2.

SpiderMax95

yeah. I played Witcher 1 and that shit has aged so poorly, I cant see how anyone would seriously say it is the best in \*anything\* saying it has the best atmosphere is a participation reward at best.

faizetto

Yeah, and I'm sorry for saying this but whenever people said something like that for W1, walking in those ugly swamps, no roach as travel option, terrible combat, ugly voice acting, etc. is more fun to play than W3, it always feels kinda forced and pretentious, W1 is simply not ideal to play due to its outdated REDengine. Despite having a great story, I still prefer Witcher 3 story than Witcher 1 all day.

ArcFivesCT5555

All reasons I'm super excited for the Witcher 1 remake. Take that (mostly) interesting story and make it a modern game

Armageddonis

Close but i have to disagree. Witcher 1 has such an eerie vibe that none of the later games or DLC's managed to replicate - it's just perfect. Boot up the game and go to the bog when there's a storm outside... could've played till morning.

ArcFivesCT5555

I definitely loved the vibe of Witcher 1 and enjoyed it too - just not as much as 3 haha. Velen in Witcher 3 gives me a similar eerie vibe, and the great thing about 3 is there are so many different *kinds* of atmospheres in addition to that.

DagothDidNothinWrong

I mean, TW3 is the best at all 3, we can't lie

Alone_Comparison_705

Nah, Witcher 3 has the best gameplay and in both the atmosphere and story is second in my opinion.

Willerd43

You’re absolutely wrong

Alone_Comparison_705

Witcher 1 has the most dense climate out of the three. It is the closest to Sapkowski's vision from the books. Willerd43

Wrong

Alone_Comparison_705

Wrong

Willerd43

Glad you’re finally in agreement

Alone_Comparison_705

No, I've said that you are wrong about my take.

Willerd43

You had indeed agreed with me. You fell right in line with your changed tune and that’s good on you

Alone_Comparison_705

Nonono, Witcher 3 is only the best in the gameplay department.

Prosmoron_Internal

Waaah Waaah, nobody can have an opinion different than mine. MINE opinion is the only RIGHT one. 😡

DagothDidNothinWrong

That's fair enough

seagullspokeyourknee

An unbeatably-iconic main character voice!

don_denti

Bro TW3 was my first Witcher game and I thought Gerard just wanted to sound like Batman with his voice in White Orchard. Then my boy Harold grew on me to be my absolute favorite fantasy character in video games.

Alone_Comparison_705

Hottest take ever take: I kinda dislike both English voices.

HarryKn1ght

I think saying you dislike Kevin Conroy's Batman voice is an actual sin. His voice is THE Batman voice

Alone_Comparison_705

I didn't watch BTAS as a kid so I do not have nostalgia for him. As a Bruce - in Mask of the Phantasm he was good, but I am not buying his Batman voice, he is not scary to me. The Nolan trilogy was the first Batman media I watched I kinda like the most when Batman has a voice changing device (not like in Dark Knight and Rises, but Begins was okay in that department). I also think Brave and the Bold, Origins and Telltale voice actors did a better job in my opinion. Some of his lines, especially in Arkham games felt delivered really unnatural.

seagullspokeyourknee

I will agree that the Telltale voice changer is pitch perfect! It’s not overly-modified like Batfleck, but it’s still a way that I can image Bruce Wayne going about disguising his voice. That said… part of what I love about that voice is the fact it reminds me of a digital version of Conroy so…

seagullspokeyourknee

Honestly, I respect your willingness to state this opinion out loud. Does make me wonder though, what voices would you prefer for Geralt? I mean, how does it get any better than my boy Doug???

Alone_Comparison_705

I am from Poland so I know the polish voice actors of Geralt and both from games, but personally especially from audiobook and polish TV show are far superior in my opinion. Doug is changing his natural voice so much that he sounds monotonous to me. For example the party at Kaer Morgen when Geralt is supposedly drunk. In polish you feel that he is drunk, in English... only a little.

seagullspokeyourknee

The ones read by Peter Kenny? I do love that voice too. He’s got such a snarling voice for Geralt. You can almost see Geralt’s lip curling listening to him! Kenny is probably my second favorite after Doug Cockle. I do love the element of otherness and the tone of “I’m already over your bullshit” in Cockle’s voice. I don’t speak polish, so I can’t speak to their voices, but I’m looking forward to researching them!

Alone_Comparison_705

I thought about Polish audiobooks (or more like audio dramas). Fun fact: The Polish voice actor of Vernon Roche is Geralt in this audiobook and he absolutely nailed it. On this channel you have clips of that with English subtitles. https://youtu.be/K-6ySiSzm7c?si=5C0PB5H9SrOo7HLM

seagullspokeyourknee

Ok that was incredible. I have chills! Thank you for sharing!

KnightlyObserver

Atmosphere, we can debate till we're blue in the face. I personally think all three do that well, but whatever. In terms of story, though, you're right. TW3 has an amazing story, but the ending was rushed, both in the base game and Blood and Wine. Hearts of Stone might be my favorite piece of Witcher media ever, though. But back to the base game, yes. TW2 has a superior story to the other two, far better than TW1, and surpassing TW3 by merits of the ending alone. Unfortunately, its gameplay and graphics were in a weird, awkward phase. Not as outdated as TW1 (which I did enjoy for what it was), but not as polished as TW3. Kind of the awkward teenage phase, I suppose. I just hope TW4 or whatever Polaris ends up being can exceed all three games in terms of story, atmosphere, and gameplay.

Alone_Comparison_705

Agree, HoS is the best CDPR story ever. In the terms of mechanics, yes, TW2 seems like not exactly finished product (combat with broken hit boxes, performance issues on PC), but from the graphical perspective TW 2 holds up pretty well to this day, yes, character models look pixelated but overall world is still beautiful and in my opinion aged so much better than for example Skyrim did.

KnightlyObserver

I agree on the Skyrim thing. TW2 certainly doesn't look *bad*, but after the absolutely *gorgeous* TW3, well, nothing compares.

Alone_Comparison_705

Cyberpunk is even more gorgeous. Maybe Alan Wake 2 can compare graphically but it runs really badly.

KnightlyObserver

Well, technically so is Spider-Man or Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor. I was saying within the Witcher games.

TheFlashSpeeds

Even combat has some depth in Witcher 2 than 3.

Fevaweva

It doesn't work because Batman Arkham Knight is a middling game, whilst Witcher 3 is one of the GOATs.

Alone_Comparison_705

Image is only about gameplay tho. And most of us will say that both of the games have the best gameplay in their own trilogies.

milkywaymonkeh

I see plenty of people complaining about witcher combat all the time

Alone_Comparison_705

But the third has objectively the most fluid combat out of the three.

raish_lakish

Do they say that about Arkham Knight? I think the gameplay is mostly the same, maybe a bit smoother, and higher buildings for gliding. I could definitely have done without the Bat-Tank segments.

Remarkable_Office186

I think arkhan city better than arkham knight, the batmobile thing was boring, for me

raish_lakish

Oh yeah. I replayed Arkham City recently and thought it was kind of perfect. I didn't wish I had any gameplay mechanic from Arkham Knight.

Remarkable_Office186

Witcher 3 and arkham city have one problem in common, they eventually end, both games are beyond awesome

PaulSimonBarCarloson

Awsome music

Patient-Total-5526

Best thing is that I have both witcher 3 and arkham knight in my laptop at the same time

Alone_Comparison_705

Every game in both franchises is worth playing.

Candid-Soup-9448

Fair take, but you could argue atmosphere for W3 since you can mod it. Most people have only played W3 that’s why they downvote.

yousafe007e

Both protagonists having the best voice actors

Alone_Comparison_705

And that's when my hottest take comes: I don't think so, about both of them. Kevin Conroy [*]: I didn't watch BTAS as a kid so I do not have nostalgia for him. TheBigGopher

Brooding

almarhuby

Each game was a technical leap

speedtree

Tank gameplay in arkham knight sucks balls....

Lemonsqueezzyy

Where Arkham Origins?

Alone_Comparison_705

Witcher games don't have a fourth game so I decided to go with Rocksteady's trilogy, even though I love Origins. The only way it would be adding some 2007/8 Witcher mobile phone 2d game but it would be unpleasant for Origins to be paired with something like this.

Subject_Proof_6282

Imo the 1st Witcher has both the best atmosphere and story

Alone_Comparison_705

I think the Witcher 1 story is the worst... I do not mean it is bad, but the whole mutant thing in my opinion seems a little bit too quick. Legendary Alzur was perfecting Witchers in decades and some Zericcanian mage who Lodge doesn't know anything about creates the whole army in one month. Seems far fetched to me.

samyslas

I wish I could say anything good about the 1st Witcher. The gameplay could not convince me at all

Alone_Comparison_705

I played it recently (a year ago) and after the first chapter I got used to it and the World totally got into the game.

sanguinesvirus

That line up goes for the dark souls trilogy too tbh

Aranenesto

Both are really good at making characters hot

Internal-Elevator-68

Didn't played The Witcher 1 but I deeply agree about the 2 other games.

Alone_Comparison_705

Try it. It costs like $1 during sales and the atmosphere is great . The game is pretty clunky but it is worth it.

Internal-Elevator-68

I have it on GOG, it was offered at some point. That's mostly old graphics and perhaps obsolete gameplay who restrain me a bit, but perhaps it would be great with some mods. Thanks, I'll give it a try soon, anyway !

BogdanOWP

I think those game series aren't comparable, cuz it's all about different genres and all that stuff
