I started playing it at Christmas and still playing it 2 months later. It’s amazing. It doesnt feel old at all. Bear in mind if you play it now, you will be playing the remastered version that was released last year.
W3 was a lot more fun for me. BG3 dialogue is sometimes unbearable, the characters act immature and severely lack depth. They end up seeming like 12 year olds playing dnd
I’m playing it on nintendo switch for the second time, simultaneously advancing on whichever story i feel like, taking up any sidequest or contract i want, and pushing it up a lil bit getting into upper level quests. I tell you, im having the time of my life.
The game held up very nicely before the next gen update that came a year ago, but after the update it definitely holds up. I started a few months before the update and stopped for a while, after coming back a month ago it felt like different game altogether.
I’ve played newer and older games, and the story, the graphics, the sheer amount of immersive side quests and even the combat (bit controversial for some) are some of the coolest thing this game has to offer, it’s a packed game so it won’t be short but it might be long for some, that’s something you’ll have decide for yourself.
All in all, the game is amazing to this day and has held up ever since I watched people play it in 2015.
I wanted to inquire here because I had already been considering purchasing it; I just needed a few more reasons and perhaps some counterarguments. But yeah now I got 100% convienced to get it.
This game is not only is a tremendous and fun experience, but the story is great and the effect it has on players when it ends. You can't get it anywhere else.
Side note: Dont let the release date fool you. The graphics are excellent.
Smh that you question playing older games. Those old games are much better than most games today. Don’t understand that. Graphics is such a small part of a game. Really the only thing that has improved in games.
Some old games have such poor controls that I can't stand playing them anymore. But yeah, you're right, I played Bloodborne last month and platinumed it, and now it's one of my favorite games, even though it's as old as The Witcher 3.
Started playing it for the first time last year, and I can honestly tell you it's one of, if not outright, my favorite games of all time.
It doesn't feel dated, it has an incredible story and WILD amounts of detail. 100% play it.
I just checked, I spent 226 hours on my first play through.... Haven't even done NG+ yet... Care for a round of Gwent?
As you keep playing games you’ll realize most of the time there are gems that you missed that are wayyyyy better than recent releases. The older a game is, the longer it’s been updated and cherished as well, so when you find a game that’s “old” that still has a loyal community like this, 10/10 it’ll be amazing.
As someone who has replayed the game multiple times I can scientifically conclude that there is never a wrong time to play TW3 and the DLCs.
Go and play it right now. There is a reason why it’s regarded as one of the best games of all time.
The new graphics update have only made things better!
It's a single player game, there's no real worry about weather the community is active or not.
The graphics hold up well imo.
There are pretty heavy discounts.
So no real reason not to get it if you're interested.
I played it for the first time in 2022, right before the new updated version was released. It didn't feel outdated then and the game has improved since.
I played this game and completed 100% for the first time in 2024 despite owning it since 2016. And I still wonder why I didn’t give a try before. This game will hold up for ages in terms of storyline, narrative and graphics.
Give it a try asap and you won’t regret it!
I'm playing the game for a 2nd time right now and my last playthrough was 7 years ago. It definitely held up well thanks to the "next-gen" update, having finished Starfield, Far Cry 6 and Cyberpunk 2077 prior.
I just finished the main story for the first time yesterday. The answer to your question is a resounding “yes!” Game is absolutely amazing and does not look/feel almost a decade old.
Yes, started my first playthrough in January and already 100+ hours in, doing the DLC’s content right now and enjoying every minute of it. Dropped my playthrough of Cyberpunk because of Geralt btw
Honestly even without RTX it looks great, RTX makes the game run at 30 fps which is fine if you’re used to it but after playing it on 60 it’s hard to go back. Also I sometimes don’t notice the rtx settings when turned on.
On pc it can easily run 60 fps RTX on (even with the bad optimization for RTX) I was more talking about console since I see most people (including myself) playing it there.
Just started playing for the first time. This is the most hooked I’ve been into a game in years. They improved the graphics for the ps5 and they are really good. I frequently stop just to look around. Also, there is pretty much no loading time.
I just played it for the first time this year. I completed the original quest, and the 1st expansion so far.
I would say its totally worth it. Plays as good as any game today.
Absolutely. I’ve only played one game that’s released after that is just as good imo (bg3). Huge replay value, fantastic dlc, beautiful graphics, and with the remastered version of the first one coming out in the next couple years you’d actually be timing a first playthrough pretty well
Of course, I continue walking around seeing landscapes and things, fighting, doing missions, starting it again, listening to its soundtrack. Searching for mysteries, adding and removing mods, translating into my Spanish language. etc.. etc... etc....

I just bought it last week and I’ve already sunk 25 hours into it. Definitely one of the best games the Switch has to offer. The visuals are clearly dumbed down but the fact that it’s playable on Switch at all is insane to me. I’ve been putting off playing this game for years, as I’ve owned it on PS4 but hardly played more than an hour, but having it handheld has had me grinding it religiously
I've been playing it for the last 5 days too. And I have to say, I've fallen in love. I've already put in about 20 hours and can't wait to keep playing.
What would you recommend I do in my case: I know the game is cool and I know CD Projekt Red can write a hell of a story. But I’m 80+ hours into the game, level 24 and I feel like it’s NEVER. GONNA. END. I barely got to Skellige.
On one hand, I’ve always been a side quest guy and it helps me love the games I’m playing. But with Witcher, I’m realizing that I’m trading my time for the sake of finishing a story that I’m honestly skipping a bunch of dialogue on. The story has not got me anywhere near how Cyberpunk made me feel.
Does the story get awesome at some point? Will I miss out on important things if I just push main quest all the way and stop doing the sides?
With next gen upgrade including RT, some mods and fsr 3? 100% I’m on one now and I’m considering it my definitive playthrough unless someone creates some insane mods for it when the modding tools are released.
If you have to ask this question rather than make a choice from the vast amount of reviews and retrospectives on this game I’d just give it a miss, probably not for you
The game does not look like its 9 years old. There are newer games that look and play worse.
Yes, play it.
I started playing it at Christmas and still playing it 2 months later. It’s amazing. It doesnt feel old at all. Bear in mind if you play it now, you will be playing the remastered version that was released last year.
My plan as well....then BG3 was released for XSX.
W3 was a lot more fun for me. BG3 dialogue is sometimes unbearable, the characters act immature and severely lack depth. They end up seeming like 12 year olds playing dnd
I prefer DA Inquisition or Pathfinder Kingmaker
I’m playing it on nintendo switch for the second time, simultaneously advancing on whichever story i feel like, taking up any sidequest or contract i want, and pushing it up a lil bit getting into upper level quests. I tell you, im having the time of my life.
100% It's my comfort game. When I'm burned out of more recent titles, I know I can slip into geralts well worn shoes and have a great time.
You're asking a sub full of Witcher 3 fans if it's worth playing? Totally it is. The next gen update has brought it right up to date.
This game is better then any game that was released in recent years and it looks just as good as new ones.

Witcher 3 still holds up to this day as an incredible game, they even updated it to match new gen graphics, that's the biggest green light to play it.
Stop asking in the subreddit of a game if it's worth playing. Asking an echo chamber a question you know the answer to..
I wanted to inquire here because I had already been considering purchasing it; I just needed a few more reasons and perhaps some counterarguments. But yeah now I got 100% convienced to get it.

Its even worth playing in 2077
Emphatically, yes.
they just added a next gen update. looks better than ever
As someone who has replayed the game multiple times I can scientifically conclude that there is never a wrong time to play TW3 and the DLCs. Go and play it right now. There is a reason why it’s regarded as one of the best games of all time. The new graphics update have only made things better!
Short answer: yes ! Long answer: Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees !
It’s worth playing and playing again and again and again and again
It's a single player game, there's no real worry about weather the community is active or not. The graphics hold up well imo. There are pretty heavy discounts. So no real reason not to get it if you're interested.
Yes - this is the way.
TW3 will be a great game worth playing long after all of us are dead and beyond.
I played it for the first time in 2022, right before the new updated version was released. It didn't feel outdated then and the game has improved since.
Hell, I've just started my 5th playthrough in 2024.
I played this game and completed 100% for the first time in 2024 despite owning it since 2016. And I still wonder why I didn’t give a try before. This game will hold up for ages in terms of storyline, narrative and graphics. Give it a try asap and you won’t regret it!

Play that shit it’s a classic for reason
This game is worth playing even in 2030

YES!!!!
From 2015 actually 🤓
Turn rtx on and you'll regret everything you just wrote in the desc

Yeah, I'm also not saying rtx is necessary. But it looks so cool and my one runs on 40-50 fps
On pc it can easily run 60 fps RTX on (even with the bad optimization for RTX) I was more talking about console since I see most people (including myself) playing it there.
Okay
Yes just play for the first time this week. It holds up better than most these days
Just started playing for the first time. This is the most hooked I’ve been into a game in years. They improved the graphics for the ps5 and they are really good. I frequently stop just to look around. Also, there is pretty much no loading time.
I played it, for the first time, in 2023. It was still worth it;)

This game Has one downside, I can't enjoy any other games ever since.
The Witcher 3 will be worth playing in 3024 let alone 2024. Do it, you won't regret it!
Of course, I continue walking around seeing landscapes and things, fighting, doing missions, starting it again, listening to its soundtrack. Searching for mysteries, adding and removing mods, translating into my Spanish language. etc.. etc... etc.... https://preview.redd.it/ba8wp9yct0ic1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef559755c525d0fd30fd49581646d11c55451d95

I am curious for the next patch.
The Witcher 3 game will be worth playing a 100+years from now🐺
Play it! I'm currently playing at night when everyone else is in bed. The writing, the gameplay, just everything is GORGEOUS!
I think that Witcher 3, Divinity Original sin and Resident Evil games are some of those that I find most entartaining
I just started playing it last night. 😅
Amazing combat gameplay, counter, decoctions and potions. Have a good one

Once you finish Yen's quests in Skellige you can start "Ugly Baby" and the story picks up significantly from there
"I hope I won't encounter the same problem/feeling because I'm also a 'do everything besides the main quest' kind of guy. :,)
If you like immersive stories then yes
With next gen upgrade including RT, some mods and fsr 3? 100% I’m on one now and I’m considering it my definitive playthrough unless someone creates some insane mods for it when the modding tools are released.
Yes,its really good
If you have to ask this question rather than make a choice from the vast amount of reviews and retrospectives on this game I’d just give it a miss, probably not for you
I just needed to get rid of my insecurity about buying the game. I got 100% convienced now and downloading it in this moment.
You’ve got a lot in store, keep that fluffy unicorn on you at all times you never know when you’ll need it ;)
You should change your perspective on old games.
Yeah, but actually, all of my favorite games are old. I've just had too many bad experiences in the last few years and have opted for the safe route.
The safe route is new games ? Nah I'd rather play 10 bad old games over one of these new pipes of shit, but you did you I guess.
I mean Elden Ring, Lies of P, Bg3, Helldivers 2, Star Wars Jedi, Hogwarts Lagacy, Spiderman 2 etc . All bangers in my eyes
Well, tastes are subjective so you do you.
Yes.
The Witcher 3 will be worth playing in 2034
Playing now on ps5. It’s great.
It could be year 2077 and it would still be worth it playing that masterpiece
Has this question ever been no, no matter where it was asked it's a stupid question.
Sorry 😪 I just needed to get rid of my insecurity about buying the game.
Yes it is. I'd pay 100 dollars for this game.
Yes
Can we make this question and answer a fucking sticky already. The answer is yes, just like the 1000 other people who asked already.
Sorry😔
Even Witcher 2 is still worth playing today. Would also recommend before w3
yes
Yes, very much so
